Lipschitz algebras and peripherally-multiplicative maps

Let X be a compact metric space and let Lip（X） be the Banach algebra of all scalar- valued Lipschitz functions on X, endowed with a natural norm. For each f ∈ Lip（X）, σπ（f） denotes the peripheral spectrum of f. We state that any map Φ from Lip（X） onto Lip（Y） which preserves multiplicatively the peripheral spectrum：
σπ（Φ（f）Φ（g）） = σπ（fg）, A↓f, g ∈ Lip（X）
is a weighted composition operator of the form Φ（f） = τ· （f °φ） for all f ∈ Lip（X）, where τ ： Y → {-1, 1} is a Lipschitz function and φ ： Y→ X is a Lipschitz homeomorphism. As a consequence of this result, any multiplicatively spectrum-preserving surjective map between Lip（X）-algebras is of the form above.

Evaluation maps in rational homotopy

In the rational category of nilpotent complexes, let E be an H-space acting on a space X. With mild hypotheses we show that the action on the base point factors through a map Γ_E:S_E→X, where S_E is a finite product of odd-dimensional spheres and Γ_E is a homotopy monomorphism. Among others, the following consequences are obtained: if and only if is essential and if and only if X satisfies a strong splitting condition.     

Lipschitz classes on local fields

The Lipschitz class Lipαon a local field K is defined in this note,and the equivalent relationship between the Lipschitz class Lipαand the Holder type space C~α(K)is proved.Then,those important characteristics on the Euclidean space R~n and the local field K are compared,so that one may interpret the essential differences between the analyses on R~n and K.Finally,the Cantor type fractal functionθ(x)is showed in the Lipschitz class Lip(m,K),m＜(ln 2/ln 3).     

Lifting homotopy T-algebra maps to strict maps

The settings for homotopical algebra—categories such as simplicial groups, simplicial rings, _A∞$A_{\infty }$ spaces, _E∞$E_{\infty }$ ring spectra, etc.—are often equivalent to categories of algebras over some monad or triple T. In such cases, T is acting on a nice simplicial model category in such a way that T descends to a monad on the homotopy category and defines a category of homotopy T-algebras. In this setting there is a forgetful functor from the homotopy category of T-algebras to the category of homotopy T-algebras.     

Rational approximation to Lipschitz and Zygmund classes

In this paper, characterizations for lim _n(R _n (f)/(n ^–1)=0 inH and for lim _n(n ^r+ R _n (f)=0 inW ^r Lip ,r1, are given, while, forZ, a generalization to a related result of Newman is established.Communicated by Ronald A. DeVore.     

Bernstein-type operators,convexity and Lipschitz classes

In the present paper we extend previous results about the monotonicity of Bernstein-type operators relative to convex functions and about the preservation of Lipschitz classes.     

Cyclic maps in rational homotopy theory

The notion of a cyclic map g:AX is a natural generalization of a Gottlieb element in _n(X). We investigate cyclic maps from a rational homotopy theory point of view. Crossed modules as homotopy normal maps

In this note we consider crossed modules of groups (N→G, G→Aut(N)), as a homotopy version of the inclusion N⊂G of a normal subgroup. Our main observation is a characterization of the underlying map N→G of a crossed module in terms of a simplicial group structure on the associated bar construction. This approach allows for “natural” generalizations to other monoidal categories, in particular we consider briefly what we call “normal maps” between simplicial groups.     

Uniform and universal Glivenko-Cantelli classes

A class of measurable functions on a probability space is called a Glivenko-Cantelli class if the empirical measuresP _n converge to the trueP uniformly over almost surely. is a universal Glivenko-Cantelli class if it is a Glivenko-Cantelli Cantelli class for all lawsP on a measurable space, and a uniform Glivenko-Cantelli class if the convergence is also uniform inP. We give general sufficient conditions for the Glivenko-Cantelli and universal Glivenko-Cantelli properties and examples to show that some stronger conditions are not necessary. The uniform Glivenko-Cantelli property is characterized, under measurability assumptions, by an entropy condition.     

Boundary interpolation in weak Lipschitz classes
