The cathode electrode structure of the direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) was improved by a novel catalyst ink preparation method. Regulation of the solvent polarity in the cathode catalyst ink caused increases in the electrochemical active surface (EAS) for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) as well as decreases in the methanol crossover effect. In a two-step preparation, agglomerates consisting of catalyst and Nafion ionomers were decreased in size, and polar groups in the ionomers formed organized networks in the cathode catalyst layer. Despite Pt catalysts in the cathode being only 0.5 mg cm? 2, the maximum power density of the improved membrane electrode assembly (MEA) was 120 mW cm? 2, at 3 M methanol, which was much larger than that of traditional MEA (67 mW cm? 2).  相似文献

The dimethoxymethane vapor-fed fuel cell (V-DMMFC) described in this paper is an innovative design for passive water management without the need for a complex micro-fluidic subsystem. DMM is a promising fuel for vapor-fed fuel cells because it has high energy density, an absence of C–C bonds, and lower toxicity as well as high vapor pressure. In a polarization measurement, the V-DMMFC showed an open circuit voltage of around 0.55 V and a high power density of 34.7 mW cm?2 at 0.315 V, which is higher than that of a fuel cell with MeOH vapor. The V-DMMFC achieved a fast response in fuel feeding and a higher Faradic efficiency (76.1%) than that of fuel cells fed with MeOH vapor (53.7%); these improvements result from a higher vapor pressure and a lower fuel crossover of DMM. For constant voltage (CV) mode, the V-DMMFC provided evidence for the long-term stability of the device and for the sustainability of humidity within the self-humidified MEA without any additional provision of water.  相似文献

Layered perovskite-structure oxides LaBaCuFeO5+x (LBCFO) and LaBaCuCoO5+x (LBCCO) were prepared and the electrical conductivity and electrochemical performance were investigated as potential cathode materials for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). The electrical conductivity of LBCCO is much higher than that of LBCFO. Area specific resistances of LBCFO and LBCCO cathode materials on Ce0.8Sm0.2O1.9 (SDC) electrolyte are as low as 0.21 Ω cm2 and 0.11 Ω cm2 at 700 °C, respectively. The maximum power density of the LBCFO/SDC/Ni-SDC and LBCCO/SDC/Ni-SDC cells with 300 μm thick electrolytes attains 557 mW cm?2 and 603 mW cm?2 at 800 oC, respectively. Preliminary results demonstrated that the layered perovskite-structure oxides LBCFO and LBCCO are very promising cathode materials for application in IT-SOFCs.  相似文献

Eu2O3 as a cathodic electrocatalyst was for the first time investigated and found to exhibit not only a high electrocatalytic activity for oxygen reduction, but also a strong tolerance to the attack of BH4?. Based on these experimental findings, a simple membraneless direct borohydride fuel cell (DBFC) is assembled and exhibits a peak power density of 66.4 mW cm? 2 at 0.495 V under ambient condition by using the Eu2O3-catalyzed cathode and hydrogen storage alloy anode. Since this new configuration of DBFCs can operate very well without the help of expensive cation-exchange membranes, it may provide a simple way to construct cost-effective and high efficient DBFCs for a number of portable applications.  相似文献

Herein, the Sr2Fe1.5Mo0.5O6 (SFM) precursor solution is infiltrated into a tri-layered “porous La0.9Sr0.1Ga0.8Mg0.2O3 (LSGM)/dense LSGM/porous LSGM” skeleton to form both SFM/LSGM symmetrical fuel cells and functional fuel cells by adopting an ultra-fast and time-saving procedure. The heating/cooling rate when fabricating is fixed at 200 °C/min. Thanks to the unique cell structure with high thermal shock resistance and matched thermal expansion coefficients (TEC) between SFM and LSGM, no SFM/LSGM interfacial detachment is detected. The polarization resistances (Rp) of SFM/LSGM composite cathode and anode at 650 °C are 0.27 Ω·cm2 and 0.235 Ω·cm2, respectively. These values are even smaller than those of the cells fabricated with traditional method. From scanning electron microscope (SEM), a more homogenous distribution of SFM is identified in the ultra-fast fabricated SFM/LSGM composite, therefore leading to the enhanced performance. This study also strengthens the evidence that SFM can be used as high performance symmetrical electrode material both running in H2 and CH4. When using H2 as fuel, the maximum power density of “SFM-LSGM/LSGM/LSGM-SFM” functional fuel cell at 700 °C is 880 mW cm 2. By using CH4 as fuel, the maximum power densities at 850 and 900 °C are 146 and 306 mW cm 2, respectively.  相似文献

A direct borohydride fuel cell with a Pd/Ir catalysed microfibrous carbon cathode and a gold-catalysed microporous carbon cloth anode is reported. The fuel and oxidant were NaBH4 and H2O2, at concentrations within the range of 0.1–2.0 mol dm−3 and 0.05–0.45 mol dm−3, respectively. Different combinations of these reactants were examined at 10, 25 and 42 °C. At constant current density between 0 and 113 mA cm−2, the Pd/Ir coated microfibrous carbon electrode proved more active for the reduction of peroxide ion than a platinised-carbon one. The maximum power density achieved was 78 mW cm−2 at a current density of 71 mA cm−2 and a cell voltage of 1.09 V.  相似文献

Novel ultrasonic and sonoelectrochemical methods for preparing Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) electrodes are described. Platinum loaded on Nafion-bonded carbon anodes in Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs) were prepared in K2PtCl4 aqueous solutions by galvanostatic pulse electrodeposition in the absence and presence of power ultrasound (20 kHz). It was found that PEMFC electrodes prepared sonoelectrochemically showed better performance compared to those prepared by (i) galvanostatic pulse method only (i.e. silent conditions) and (ii) conventional method. Maximum power densities of 98.5 mW cm?2 were found for anodes prepared sonoelectrochemically compared with 91.5 mW cm?2 (by galvanostatic pulse method alone) and 86 mW cm?2 (by conventional method).  相似文献

In this paper, we successfully synthesized Ni hollow spheres consisting of needle-like nickel particles by using silica spheres as template with gold nanoparticles seeding method. The Ni hollow spheres are applied to methanol and ethanol electrooxidation in alkaline media. The results show that the Ni hollow spheres give a very high activity for alcohol electrooxidation at a very low nickel loading of 0.10 mg cm−2. The current on Ni hollow spheres is much higher than that on Ni particles. The onset potential and peak potential on Ni hollow spheres are more negative than that on Ni particles for methanol and ethanol electrooxidation. The Ni hollow spheres may be of great potential in alcohol sensor and direct alcohol fuel cells.  相似文献

Diverse fused thiophenes with electron-rich and electron-deficient blocks have been synthesized and employed as the π-conjugated spacers of organic dyes for the dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The effects of these fused thiophenes were investigated by their absorption spectra, electrochemical and photovoltaic properties. For a typical device a maximum power conversion efficiency of 6.11% was obtained under simulated AM 1.5 irradiation (100 mW cm?2): a short-circuit current (JSC) of 14.47 mA cm?2, an open-circuit voltage (VOC) of 670 mV, and a fill factor (FF) of 0.63.  相似文献

For the first time in SnO2 based dye solar cells, here we report, efficiency exceeding 3% of the cells consisting with Indoline D-149 dye with unmodified SnO2 nano-crystallites. The cells sensitized with metal free D-149 dye together with liquid electrolyte comprising with 0.5 M tetrapropyl ammonium iodide and 0.05 M iodine in a mixture of acetonitrile and ethylene carbonate (1:4 by volume) delivered a short circuit current density of 10.4 mA cm?2 with an open circuit voltage of 530 mV under the illumination of 100 mW cm?2 (AM1.5) having an efficiency of 3.1%. As evident from the FTIR measurement, strong surface passivation of recombination centers of SnO2 crystallites due to the dual mode of attachment of dye molecules to the surface of SnO2 via both COOH and S–O direct bond might be the possible reason for this enhancement in these SnO2 based cells.  相似文献

This paper reports on the application of cornstalks-derived high-surface-area microporous carbon (MC) as the efficient photocathode of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). The photocathode, which contains MC active material, Vulcan XC–72 carbon black conductive agent, and TiO2 binder, was obtained by a doctor blade method. Electronic impedance spectroscopy (EIS) of the MC film uniformly coated on fluorine doped SnO2 (FTO) glass displayed a low charge-transfer resistance of 1.32 Ω cm2. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) analysis of the as-prepared MC film exhibited excellent catalytic activity for I3?/I? redox reactions. The DSCs assembled with the MC film photocathode presented a short-circuit photocurrent density (Jsc) of 14.8 mA cm?2, an open-circuit photovoltage (Voc) of 798 mV, and a fill factor (FF) of 62.3%, corresponding to an overall conversion efficiency of 7.36% under AM 1.5 irradiation (100 mW cm?2), which is comparable to that of DSCs with Pt photocathode obtained by conventional thermal decomposition.  相似文献

Cobalt-free perovskite oxide La0.5Sr0.5Fe0.8Cu0.2O3  δ (LSFC) was applied as both anode and cathode for symmetrical solid oxide fuel cells (SSOFCs). The LSFC shows a reversible transition between a cubic perovskite phase in air and a mixture of SrFeLaO4, a K2NiF4-type layered perovskite oxide, metallic Cu and LaFeO3 in reducing atmosphere at elevated temperature. The average thermal expansion coefficient of LSFC in air is 17.7 × 10 6 K 1 at 25 °C to 900 °C. By adopting LSFC as initial electrodes to fabricate electrolyte supported SSOFCs, the cells generate maximum power output of 1054, 795 and 577 mW cm 2 with humidified H2 fuel (~ 3% H2O) and 895, 721 and 482 mW cm 2 with humidified syngas fuel (H2:CO = 1:1) at 900, 850 and 800 °C, respectively. Moreover, the cell with humidified H2 fuel demonstrates a reasonable stability at 800 °C under 0.7 V for 100 h.  相似文献

A novel single phase BaCe0.5Bi0.5O3 ? δ (BCB) was employed as a cathode material for a proton-conducting solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). The single cell, consisting of a BaZr0.1Ce0.7Y0.2O3 ? δ (BZCY7)-NiO anode substrate, a BZCY7 anode functional layer, a BZCY7 electrolyte membrane and a BCB cathode layer, was assembled and tested from 600 to 700 °C with humidified hydrogen (~3% H2O) as the fuel and the static air as the oxidant. An open-circuit potential of 0.96 V and a maximum power density of 321 mW cm?2 were obtained for the single cell. A relatively low interfacial polarization resistance of 0.28Ω cm2 at 700 °C indicated that the BCB was a promising cathode material for proton-conducting SOFCs.  相似文献

Quasi-solid state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) were assembled by in-situ chemical cross-linking of a gel electrolyte precursor containing liquid electrolyte. The DSSCs assembled with this cross-linked gel polymer electrolyte showed higher open circuit voltage and lower short-circuit photocurrent density than those of DSSCs with liquid electrolyte. Addition of SiO2 nanoparticles into the cross-linked gel polymer electrolyte significantly improved the photovoltaic performance and long-term stability of the DSSCs. The optimized quasi-solid state DSSC showed high conversion efficiency, 6.2% at 100 mW cm?2 with good durability.  相似文献

Mesoporous silicon membranes are functionalized with ammonium groups and evaluated as high efficient anion exchange membrane in a miniaturized alkaline glucose fuel cell setup. N-Trimethoxysilylpropyl-N,N,N-trimethylammonium chloride is grafted onto the pore walls of porous silicon resulting in the anionic conductivity enhancement. The functionalization process is followed by FTIR spectroscopy where the optimized parameter could be determined. The ionic conductivity is measured using impedance spectroscopy and gives 5.6 mS cm 1. These modified mesoporous silicon membranes are integrated in a specially designed miniature alkaline (pH 13) glucose/air fuel cell prototype using a conventional platinum-carbon anode and a cobalt phthalocyanine-carbon nanotube cathode. The enhanced anion conductivity of these membranes leads to peak power densities of 7 ± 0.12 mW cm 2 at “air breathing” conditions at room temperature.  相似文献

Gold nanoparticles have been prepared by two methods: chemical (ex-situ, Au/C) by two phase protocol, and electrochemical (in-situ, Au/Pani) by electroreduction of gold ions on a polyaniline film and compared as anode catalysts in a glucose microfluidic fuel cell. In this paper the structural characteristics and electrocatalytic properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction and electrochemical measurements. The catalytic behavior of both anodes was tested in a microfluidic fuel cell with a reference electrode incorporated, by means of linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), showing a cathodic shift in the glucose oxidation peak for Au/Pani. Results show a higher power density (0.5 mW cm? 2) for Au/C anode compared with an already reported value, where a glucose microfluidic fuel cell was used in similar conditions.  相似文献

A series of ceria-based composite materials consisting of samaria doped ceria (SDC) and binary carbonates(Li2CO3–Na2CO3) were examined as functional electrolytes for low-temperature solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). DTA and SEM techniques were applied to characterize the phase- and micro-structural properties of the composite materials. Conductivity measurements were carried on the composite electrolytes with a.c. impedance in air. A transition of ionic conductivity with temperature was occurred among all samples with different carbonate content, which related to the interface phase. Single cells based on the composite electrolytes, NiO as anode and lithiated NiO as cathode, were fabricated by a simple dry-pressing process and tested at 400–600 °C. The maximum output power at 600 °C increased with the carbonate content in the composite electrolytes, and reached the maximum at 25 wt.%, then decreased. Similar trend has also shown at 500 °C, but the maximum was obtained at 20wt.%. The best performances of 1085 mW cm−2 at 600 °C and 690 mW cm−2 at 500 °C were achieved for the composite electrolytes containing 25 and 20 wt.% carbonates, respectively. During fuel cell operation, it found that the SDC-carbonate composites are co-ionic (O2−/H+) conductors. At lower carbonate contents, both oxide–ion and proton conductions were significant, when the content increased to 20–35 wt.%, proton conduction dominated. The detailed conduction mechanism in these composites needs further investigation.  相似文献

Ultra-low Pt content PEMFC electrodes have been manufactured using magnetron co-sputtering of carbon and platinum on a commercial E-Tek® uncatalyzed gas diffusion layer in plasma fuel cell deposition devices. Pt loadings of 0.16 and 0.01 mg cm?2 have been realized. The Pt catalyst is dispersed as small clusters with size less than 2 nm over a depth of 500 nm. PEMFC test with symmetric electrodes loaded with 10 μg cm?2 led to maximum reproducible power densities as high as 0.4 and 0.17 W cm?2 with Nafion®212 and Nafion®115 membranes, respectively.  相似文献

In this communication, we report a novel CoTETA/C catalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) which was prepared from a carbon-supported cobalt triethylenetetramine chelate, followed by heat treatment in an inert atmosphere. Electrochemical performances were measured using rotating disk electrode (RDE) technique and a PEM fuel cell test station. For a H2–O2 fuel cell system, the maximum output power density reached 162 mW cm?2 at 25 °C with non-humidified reaction gases. We found a nanometallic face-centered cubic (fcc) α-Co phase embedded in the graphitic carbon after pyrolysis, based on X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements. These results indicated that CoTETA/C is a promising catalyst for the ORR.  相似文献

A novel, low-cost proton-conducting semi-IPN has been successfully prepared from PVA/PAMPS blends by incorporating poly(ethylene glycol)bis(carboxymethyl)ether (PEGBCME) as a novel plasticizer. Although, the polymer is based on a relatively low content of PAMPS as a component of ion conducting sites, the resulting semi-IPN exhibited high proton conductivity (0.1 S cm−1) at 25 °C, which afforded a higher power density of 51 mW cm−2 at 80 °C. A striking feature is that a long-term initial performance is achieved with a 130 h of stable fuel cell operation in DMFC mode due to effectively suppressed methanol crossover. This is a new record for a fully hydrocarbon membrane in DMFC, seeing that the PVA–PAMPS proton-conducting semi-IPNs are made simply of aliphatic skeletons.  相似文献
