Recent DIII-D experiments with reduced neutral beam torque and minimum nonaxisymmetric perturbations of the magnetic field show a significant reduction of the toroidal plasma rotation required for the stabilization of the resistive-wall mode (RWM) below the threshold values observed in experiments that apply nonaxisymmetric magnetic fields to slow the plasma rotation. A toroidal rotation frequency of less than 10 krad/s at the q=2 surface (measured with charge exchange recombination spectroscopy using C VI) corresponding to 0.3% of the inverse of the toroidal Alfvén time is sufficient to sustain the plasma pressure above the ideal MHD no-wall stability limit. The low-rotation threshold is found to be consistent with predictions by a kinetic model of RWM damping.  相似文献

The resistive-wall mode is actively stabilized in the National Spherical Torus Experiment in high-beta plasmas rotating significantly below the critical rotation speed for passive stability and in the range predicted for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor. Variation of feedback stabilization parameters shows mode excitation or suppression. Stabilization of toroidal mode number unity did not lead to instability of toroidal mode number two. The mode can become unstable by deforming poloidally, an important consideration for stabilization system design.  相似文献

Values of the normalized plasma pressure up to twice the free-boundary stability limit predicted by ideal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) theory have been sustained in the DIII-D tokamak. Long-wavelength modes are stabilized by the resistive wall and rapid plasma toroidal rotation. High rotation speed is maintained by minimization of nonaxisymmetric magnetic fields, overcoming a long-standing impediment [E. J. Strait, Phys. Rev. Lett. 74, 2483 (1995)]]. The ideal-MHD pressure limit calculated with an ideal wall is observed as the operational limit to the normalized plasma pressure.  相似文献

基于波导理论、等效折射率方法,设计并制备了非对称波导隔离双沟结构脊型边发射激光器,最终获得了低闽值单基侧模852 nm激光器.详细研究了不同脊型台深宽比参数设计对激光器侧向模式特性的影响规律,实现了腔面未镀膜情况下脊型波导边发射激光器的单基侧模稳定输出,同时激射波长可以精确调谐到852 nm;工作电流达到150 mA,工作温度30℃;斜率效率最高可达0.89 nW/mA,光谱半宽小于1 nm.研究结果为进一步实现超窄线宽激光器提供了参考和借鉴,并且为实现激光器稳定输出提供了实验基础.  相似文献

A theory of a detuned single mode laser near threshold is given using the Fokker-Planck equation technique. The Fokker-Planck equation is solved by an eigenfunction expansion. The eigenfunctions and the corresponding eigenvalues are determined by a nonhermitian operator and are calculated numerically in the threshold region. The dependence of the linewidth from the detuning is shown. In the intensity distribution the detuning enters only via a change of the scaling parameter. For the linewidth, however, an additional broadening is found. Finally it is shown that in certain cases the correlation function must not be approximated by a single exponential term.  相似文献

An annealing study has been made on pure and doped copper specimens irradiated with electrons of 0.3 MeV and 0.375 MeV. No recovery has been observed within the measuring sensitivity in the stage-I region. The damage produced in this experiment and that in a HVEM study by Yoshida and Urban is attributed to a subthreshold mechanism.  相似文献

The characteristics of the photonic crystal vertical cavity surface emitting lasers(PhC-VCSELs) were investigated by using the full vector finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) method through the transverse mode loss analysis. PhC-VCSELs with different photonic crystal structures were analyzed theoretically and experimentally. Through combining the dual mode confinement of oxide aperture and seven-point-defect photonic crystal structure, the PhC-VCSELs with low threshold current of 0.9 mA and maximum output power of 3.1 mW operating in single fundamental mode were demonstrated. Mode loss analysis method was proven as a reliable and useful way to analyze and optimize the PhC-VCSELs.  相似文献

As advancements in laser technology result in higher-power devices, increased thermal loads experienced by resonator optical components generate instabilities in the output beam. Consequently, methods for maintaining and optimizing output-beam parameters are necessary for efficient long-term operation. This study examines a vision-based feedback control system which monitors a sampled cross-sectional image of the laser's output, and regulates both cavity mirrors, as well as the excitation level, to stabilize beam uniformity, beam steer, and output-power level.The system optimizes the output-power distribution achievable from a given laser, while significantly reducing beam steering effects. Direction of beam propagation is restricted to within 60 rad of the desired setpoint, while the output power is stabilized to within 4%. Results clearly document a considerable improvement in laser performance through maximization of beam uniformity, minimization of beam steering, and stabilization of total output power. As such, an important degree of consistency and repeatability in output-beam parameters, essential to precision laser applications, is easily achieved. Valuable diagnostic capabilities pertaining to output beam intensity and energy profiles are also incorporated into the control system. These data may be monitored on-line or stored for subsequent analysis.  相似文献

A strain-compensated InP-based quantum cascade laser(QCL) structure emitting at 4.6 μm is demonstrated,based on a two-phonon resonant design and grown by solid-source molecular beam epitaxy(MBE).By optimizing the growth parameters,a very high quality heterostructure with the lowest threshold current densities ever reported for QCLs was fabricated.Threshold current densities as low as 0.47 kA/cm~2 in pulsed operation and 0.56 kA/cm~2 in continuous-wave(cw) operation at 293 K were achieved for this state-of-the-art QCL.A minimum power consumption of 3.65 W was measured for the QCL,uncooled,with a high-reflectivity(HR) coating on its rear facet.  相似文献

针对采用经验模式分解直接阈值(EMD-DT)和经验模式分解间隔阈值(EMD-IT)在激光雷达回波信号的去噪应用中会产生的模态混叠现象,采用一种可变间隔阈值的经验模式分解(EMD-SIT)的去噪方法。首先,对信号进行经验模式分解。然后,采用过零率方法将分解出的含有噪声的固有模态函数分离。最后,应用过零点阈值,设立一个新的可变阈值,将EMD-IT和EMD-DT有效融合对信号进行去噪。通过与多种阈值的仿真对比以及激光雷达的回波信号去噪实验,结果表明该方法可以有效地去除噪声,抑制模态混叠,较EMD-IT和EMD-DT更具有优越性,因此有着很好的应用前景。  相似文献

An electronic model of VCSELs based on the mathematical rate equations of Danckaert et al. [J. Danckaert, B. Nagler, J. Albert, K.K. Panajotov, I. Veretennicoff, T. Erneux, Opt. Commun. 201 (2002) 129] is built. The polarization switching (PS) phenomenon is generated. The PS phenomenon here is analyzed using two methods. In the first method, the behavior of the polarization modes is investigated in terms of the injection voltage parameter. A threshold voltage value and a switching value are obtained as prescribed by the theoretical model. In the second method, the ratio of the voltages (modes) outputs is plotted in terms of the voltage parameter. It is found that the ratio reaches a maximum at a critical value of the voltage parameter. Controlling the threshold current, it is found that it can be reduced voluntarily by the use of an external voltage supplier (denoted E2). When E2 increases, the threshold current decreases and the maximum reached by the polarization mode increases. When the control voltage is high and below a second critical value, the polarization modes saturate to the same value. But above this critical value, they saturate to opposite values.  相似文献

In the present paper, we analyze emergency situations typical of short-duration wind tunnels with electric-arc or combined test-gas heating in the presence of stabilization and diaphragm-rupturing systems, which occur in the case of no discharge initiation in the settling chamber, with the capacitor battery having remained charged during the start of wind-tunnel systems. For avoiding such emergency situations, some additional changes based on using feedback elements are introduced into the wind-tunnel design: the piston of the fast-response valve is made hollow for increasing the volume of the shutoff cavity and for making the release of pressure from this cavity unnecessary; the high-pressure channel, which connects the piston and the piston rod with the settling-chamber cavity, is filled with a liquid and is closed from the side of the settling chamber with a piston; the device for controlled diaphragm breakdown is provided with an external electric circuit intended to control the diaphragm-rupturing process. Those modifications allow subsequent functioning of the wind-tunnel systems only in the presence of heat-supply-induced pressure growth in the settling chamber of the wind tunnel.  相似文献

We have observed low-threshold optical hyperparametric oscillations in a high-Q fluorite whispering gallery mode resonator. The oscillations result from the resonantly enhanced four-wave mixing occurring due to Kerr nonlinearity of the material. We demonstrate that, because of the narrow bandwidth of the resonator modes as well as the high efficiency of the resonant frequency conversion, the oscillations produce stable narrow-band beat-note of the pump, signal, and idler waves. We present a single-mode multilayer-core fiber with a large mode area(LMA) and a low bending loss in this Letter. A low equivalent core-cladding refractive index difference is achieved by exploiting the multilayer structure. The multilayer structure has a better bending performance than a traditional step-index core and this structure also contributes to realizing different curved refractive index profiles that have a better bending performance. An index trench is also introduced to dramatically reduce the bending loss. The experimental results show that, at a wavelength of 1550 nm, the mode area of the fabricated fiber is about 215.5 μm~2 and the bending loss is 0.58 dB/turn at a 10 mm bending radius. The LMA and excellent bending performance can be obtained simultaneously with the proposed fiber.  相似文献
