Phase transitions caused by the redistribution of quasiparticle occupation numbers n(p) in homogeneous Fermi systems with particle repulsion are analyzed. The phase diagram of a strongly correlated Fermi system, when drawn in the coordinates “density ρ-dimensionless coupling constant η,” resembles a Washington pie for a rather broad class of interactions. Its upper part is “filled” with Fermi condensate, and the bottom part is filled with normal Fermi liquid. Both parts are separated by a narrow interlayer of Lifshitz phase with a multiply connected Fermi surface. 相似文献

We derive universal relations for the rf spectroscopy of a two-dimensional Fermi gas consisting of two spin states interacting through an S-wave scattering length. The rf transition rate has a high-frequency tail that is proportional to the contact and displays logarithmic scaling violations, decreasing asymptotically like 1/(ω2ln2ω). Its coefficient is proportional to ln2'(a'(2D)/a(2D)), where a(2D) and a'(2D) are the two-dimensional scattering lengths associated with initial-state and final-state interactions. The clock shift is proportional to the contact and to ln(a'(2D)/a(2D)). If |ln(a'(2D)/a(2D))| > 1, the clock shift arises as a cancellation between much larger contributions proportional to ln2(a'(2D)/a(2D)) from bound-bound and bound-free rf transitions. 相似文献

We realize and study a strongly interacting two-component atomic Fermi gas confined to two dimensions in an optical lattice. Using radio-frequency spectroscopy we measure the interaction energy of the strongly interacting gas. We observe the confinement-induced Feshbach resonance on the attractive side of the 3D Feshbach resonance and find the existence of confinement-induced molecules in very good agreement with theoretical predictions. 相似文献

We study collisions between two strongly interacting atomic Fermi gas clouds. We observe exotic nonlinear hydrodynamic behavior, distinguished by the formation of a very sharp and stable density peak as the clouds collide and subsequent evolution into a boxlike shape. We model the nonlinear dynamics of these collisions by using quasi-1D hydrodynamic equations. Our simulations of the time-dependent density profiles agree very well with the data and provide clear evidence of shock wave formation in this universal quantum hydrodynamic system. 相似文献

Spin fluctuations and density fluctuations are studied for a two-component gas of strongly interacting fermions along the Bose-Einstein condensate-BCS crossover. This is done by in?situ imaging of dispersive speckle patterns. Compressibility and magnetic susceptibility are determined from the measured fluctuations. This new sensitive method easily resolves a tenfold suppression of spin fluctuations below shot noise due to pairing, and can be applied to novel magnetic phases in optical lattices. 相似文献

We show the emergence of a strongly interacting Bose-Fermi mixture from a two-component Fermi mixture with population imbalance. By analyzing in situ density profiles of 6Li atoms in the BCS-BEC crossover regime, we identify a critical interaction strength, beyond which all minority atoms pair up with majority atoms and form a Bose condensate. This is the regime where the system can be effectively described as a boson-fermion mixture. We determine the dimer-fermion and dimer-dimer scattering lengths and beyond-mean-field contributions. Our study realizes a gedanken experiment of bosons immersed in a Fermi sea of one of their constituents, revealing the composite nature of the bosons. 相似文献

We investigate the phase diagram of asymmetric two-component Fermi gases at zero temperature as a function of polarization and interaction strength. The equations of state of the uniform superfluid and normal phase are determined using quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We find three different mixed states, where the superfluid and the normal phase coexist in equilibrium, corresponding to phase separation between (a) the polarized superfluid and the fully polarized normal gas, (b) the polarized superfluid and the partially polarized normal gas, and (c) the unpolarized superfluid and the partially polarized normal gas. 相似文献

We study a system of one-dimensional electrons in the regime of strong repulsive interactions, where the spin exchange coupling J is small compared with the Fermi energy, and the conventional Tomonaga-Luttinger theory does not apply. We show that the tunneling density of states has a form of an asymmetric peak centered near the Fermi level. In the spin-incoherent regime, where the temperature is large compared to J, the density of states falls off as a power law of energy epsilon measured from the Fermi level, with the prefactor at positive energies being twice as large as that at the negative ones. In contrast, at temperatures below J the density of states forms a split peak with most of the weight shifted to negative epsilon. 相似文献

The behavior of the 1D Holstein polaron is described, with emphasis on lattice coarsening effects, by distinguishing between
adiabatic and nonadiabatic contributions to the local correlations and dispersion properties. The original and unifying systematization
of the crossovers between the different polaron behaviors, usually considered in the literature, is obtained in terms of quantum
to classical, weak coupling to strong coupling, adiabatic to nonadiabatic, itinerant to self-trapped polarons and large to
small polarons. It is argued that the relationship between various aspects of polaron states can be specified by five regimes:
the weak-coupling regime, the regime of large adiabatic polarons, the regime of small adiabatic polarons, the regime of small
nonadiabatic (Lang-Firsov) polarons, and the transitory regime of small pinned polarons for which the adiabatic and nonadiabatic
contributions are inextricably mixed in the polaron dispersion properties. The crossovers between these five regimes are positioned
in the parameter space of the Holstein Hamiltonian. 相似文献

We introduce a method based on chiral susceptibility, which enables one to draw a phase diagram in the chemical-potential-temperature plane for strongly interacting quarks whose interactions are described by any reasonable gap equation, even if the diagrammatic content of the quark-gluon vertex is unknown. We locate a critical end point at (μ(E),T(E))~(1.0,0.9)T(c), where T(c) is the critical temperature for chiral-symmetry restoration at μ=0, and find that a domain of phase coexistence opens at the critical end point whose area increases as a confinement length scale grows. 相似文献

We present a theoretical study of the density profile of a trapped strongly interacting Fermi gas with unbalanced spin populations. Making the assumption of the existence of a first order phase transition between an unpolarized superfluid phase and a fully polarized normal phase, we show good agreement with a recent experiment presented by Partridge et al. 相似文献

We report a model-independent measurement of the entropy, energy, and critical temperature of a degenerate, strongly interacting Fermi gas of atoms. The total energy is determined from the mean square cloud size in the strongly interacting regime, where the gas exhibits universal behavior. The entropy is measured by sweeping a bias magnetic field to adiabatically tune the gas from the strongly interacting regime to a weakly interacting regime, where the entropy is known from the cloud size after the sweep. The dependence of the entropy on the total energy quantitatively tests predictions of the finite-temperature thermodynamics. 相似文献

Within a quantum virial expansion, we investigate theoretically the violation of universal thermodynamics for a strongly interacting unitary Fermi gas trapped in a harmonic potential. The violation is caused by the existence and anisotropy of the trapping potential and a finite-range of the two-body interaction. We calculate the second virial coefficient by solving a two-fermion problem in 3D uniform harmonic traps, as well as in anisotropic traps. In the unitarity limit, the universal value of the trapped second virial coefficient is 1/4. We discuss in detail the non-universal correction to the second virial coefficient and to the equation of state. 相似文献

Due to the scale invariance, the thermodynamic laws of strongly interacting limit unitary Fermi gas can be similar to those of non-interacting ideal gas.For example, the virial theorem between pressure and energy density of the ideal gas P=2E/3V is still satisfied by the unitary Fermi gas. This paper analyses the sound velocity of unitary Fermi gases with the quasi-linear approximation. For comparison, the sound velocities for the ideal Boltzmann,Bose and Fermi gas are also given.Quite interestingly, the sound velocity formula for the ideal non-interacting gas is found to be satisfied by the unitary Fermi gas in different temperature regions. 相似文献

Employing the density matrix renormalization group method and strong-coupling perturbation theory, we study the phase diagram of the SU(2)xSU(2) Kondo lattice model in one dimension. We show that, at quarter filling, the system can exist in two phases depending on the coupling strength. The weak-coupling phase is dominated by RKKY exchange correlations, while the strong-coupling phase is characterized by strong antiferromagnetic correlations of the channel degree of freedom. These two phases are separated by a quantum critical point. For conduction-band fillings of less than one-quarter, we find a paramagnetic metallic phase at weak coupling and a ferromagnetic phase at moderate to strong coupling. 相似文献
