Previous studies of quantum delta-kicked rotors have found momentum probability distributions with a typical width (localization length L) characterized by fractional variant Planck's over 2pi scaling; i.e., L approximately variant Planck's over 2pi;{2/3} in regimes and phase-space regions close to "golden-ratio" cantori. In contrast, in typical chaotic regimes, the scaling is integer, L approximately variant Planck's over 2pi;{-1}. Here we consider a generic variant of the kicked rotor, the random-pair-kicked particle, obtained by randomizing the phases every second kick; it has no Kol'mogorov-Arnol'd-Moser mixed-phase-space structures, such as golden-ratio cantori, at all. Our unexpected finding is that, over comparable phase-space regions, it also has fractional scaling, but L approximately variant Planck's over 2pi;{-2/3}. A semiclassical analysis indicates that the variant Planck's over 2pi;{2/3} scaling here is of quantum origin and is not a signature of classical cantori.  相似文献

Spin Hall effect (SHE) is studied with first-principles relativistic band calculations for platinum, which is one of the most important materials for metallic SHE and spintronics. We find that intrinsic spin Hall conductivity (SHC) is as large as approximately 2000(variant Planck's over 2 pi/e)(Omega cm)(-1) at low temperature and decreases down to approximately 200(variant Planck's over 2 pi/e)(Omega cm)(-1) at room temperature. It is due to the resonant contribution from the spin-orbit splitting of the doubly degenerated d bands at high-symmetry L and X points near the Fermi level. By modeling these near degeneracies by an effective Hamiltonian, we show that SHC has a peak near the Fermi energy and that the vertex correction due to impurity scattering vanishes. We therefore argue that the large SHE observed experimentally in platinum is of intrinsic nature.  相似文献

The entry distribution in angular momentum and excitation energy for the formation of 254No has been measured after the 208Pb(48Ca,2n) reaction at 215 and 219 MeV. This nucleus is populated up to spin 22Planck's over 2pi and excitation energy greater, similar6 MeV above the yrast line, with the half-maximum points of the energy distributions at approximately 5 MeV for spins between 12Planck's over 2pi and 22Planck's over 2pi. This suggests that the fission barrier is greater, similar5 MeV and that the shell-correction energy persists to high spin.  相似文献

A system of atoms interacting with a radiation field in a resonant cavity is studied under conditions when the dynamics in the classical limit is stochastic. This situation is called quantum chaos. Equations of motion are obtained for the quantum-mechanical expectation values which take into account the quantum correlation functions. It is shown that in a situation corresponding to quantum chaos, the quantum corrections grow exponentially, making the evolution of the system essentially quantal after a certain time tau( variant Planck's over 2pi ) has elapsed. Analytical and numerical analysis show that in this regime the time tau( variant Planck's over 2pi ) obeys the logarithmic law tau( variant Planck's over 2pi ) approximately ln N (N is the number of atoms), and not the law tau( variant Planck's over 2pi ) approximately N(alpha) (alpha is a certain constant of order unity), as would be the case in the absence of chaos.  相似文献

A semiclassical theory is developed for the appearance of an excitation gap in a ballistic chaotic cavity connected by a point contact to a superconductor. Diffraction at the point contact is a singular perturbation in the limit variant Planck's over 2pi -->0, which opens up a gap E(gap) in the excitation spectrum. The time scale variant Planck's over 2pi /E(gap) proportional, variant alpha(-1)ln( variant Planck's over 2pi (with alpha the Lyapunov exponent) is the Ehrenfest time, the characteristic time scale of quantum chaos.  相似文献

The dynamical zeta function is usually defined as an infinite (and divergent) product over all primitive periodic orbits. It is possible to show that as variant Planck's over 2pi -->0 it can be represented as det(1-T), where the operator T(q,q') defines the semiclassical Poincare map. Here, certain consequences of this representation for chaotic systems are discussed. In particular, it is shown that the zeta function can be expressed through a subset of specially selected orbits, the error of this approximation being small as variant Planck's over 2pi -->0. Assuming that the chosen Poincare surface of section is divided into small cells of phase-space area of 2pi variant Planck's over 2pi, these trajectories are uniquely characterized by the requirement that they never go twice through the same cell.  相似文献

The gamma decay in the quasicontinuum from selected configurations of the rotational nucleus 163Er has been measured with the EUROBALL array. A new analysis technique has allowed for the first time to directly measure the compound and rotational damping widths Gamma (micro) and Gamma (rot). Values of Gamma (micro) approximately 20 keV and Gamma (rot) approximately 200 keV are obtained in the spin region I approximately 30-40 variant Planck's over 2pi, in good agreement with microscopic cranked shell model calculations. A dependence of Gamma (micro) and Gamma (rot) on the K-quantum number of the nuclear states is also presented.  相似文献

We report the first measurement of the dynamical response of shot noise (measured at frequency omega) of a tunnel junction to an ac excitation at frequency omega0. The experiment is performed in the quantum regime, variant Planck's over 2piomega approximately variant Planck's over 2piomega0>kBT at very low temperature T=35 mK and high frequency omega0/2pi=6.2 GHz. We observe that the noise responds in phase with the excitation, but not adiabatically. The results are in very good agreement with a prediction based on a new current-current correlator.  相似文献

The classical-quantum transition for chaotic systems is understood to be accompanied by the suppression of chaotic effects as the relative variant Planck's over 2pi is increased. We show evidence to the contrary in the behavior of the quantum trajectory dynamics of a dissipative quantum chaotic system, the double-well Duffing oscillator. The classical limit in the case considered has regular behavior, but as the effective variant Planck's over 2pi is increased we see chaotic behavior. This chaos then disappears deeper into the quantum regime, which means that the quantum-classical transition in this case is nonmonotonic in variant Planck's over 2pi.  相似文献

We examine the phase and the period of the radiation-induced oscillatory magnetoresistance in GaAs/AlGaAs devices utilizing in situ magnetic field calibration by electron spin resonance of diphenyl-picryl-hydrazal. The results confirm a f-independent 1/4-cycle phase shift with respect to the hf=j variant Planck's over 2pi omega(c) condition for j>/=1, and they also suggest a small ( approximately 2%) reduction in the effective mass ratio, m(*)/m, with respect to the standard value for GaAs/AlGaAs devices.  相似文献

To test the prediction that the dispersion of the magnetic resonance in superconducting YBa2Cu3O(6+x) is similar to magnons in an incommensurate antiferromagnet, we have mapped out the spin dynamics in a stripe-ordered nickelate, La(2-x)SrxNiO4, with x approximately equal to 0.31, using inelastic neutron scattering. We observe spin-wave excitations up to 80 meV emerging from the incommensurate magnetic peaks with a surprisingly large and almost isotropic spin velocity: variant Planck's over 2 pi c(s) approximately 0.32 eV A. A comparison indicates that the inferred spin-excitation spectrum is not, by itself, an adequate model for the magnetic resonance feature of the superconductor.  相似文献

Quantum resonances in the kicked rotor are characterized by a dramatically increased energy absorption rate, in stark contrast to the momentum localization generally observed. These resonances occur when the scaled Planck's constant Planck's [over ]=r/s 4pi, for any integers r and s. However, only the variant Planck's [over ]=r2pi resonances are easily observable. We have observed high-order quantum resonances (s>2) utilizing a sample of low energy, noncondensed atoms and a pulsed optical standing wave. Resonances are observed for variant Planck's [over ]=r/16 4pi for integers r=2-6. Quantum numerical simulations suggest that our observation of high-order resonances indicate a larger coherence length (i.e., coherence between different wells) than expected from an initially thermal atomic sample.  相似文献

We show that at low temperatures T an inhomogeneous radial magnetic field with magnitude B gives rise to a persistent magnetization current around a mesoscopic ferromagnetic Heisenberg ring. Under optimal conditions, this spin current can be as large as gmicro(B)(T/ variant Planck's over 2pi )exp([-2pi(gmicro(B)B/delta)(1/2)], as obtained from leading-order spin-wave theory. Here g is the gyromagnetic factor, micro(B) is the Bohr magneton, and delta is the energy gap between the ground-state and the first spin-wave excitation. The magnetization current endows the ring with an electric dipole moment.  相似文献

We report on experimental evidence for collective oblate rotation becoming favored at high spins in a rigid, well-deformed, axially symmetric nucleus. Excited states established up to spin 20variant Planck's over 2pi in 180Hf are consistent with predictions that nucleon alignments would favor oblate over prolate shapes at high spins in neutron-rich Hf isotopes. The results highlight the influence of valence orbitals on the interplay between nucleon alignments and nuclear shapes and provide a rare example of independent particle dynamics in competing potential wells.  相似文献

Neutron scattering is used to probe antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations in the d-wave heavy fermion superconductor CeCoIn5 (T_(c)=2.3 K). Superconductivity develops from a state with slow (variant Planck's over 2piGamma=0.3+/-0.15 meV) commensurate [Q_(0)=(1/2,1/2,1/2)] antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations and nearly isotropic spin correlations. The characteristic wave vector in CeCoIn5 is the same as CeIn3 but differs from the incommensurate wave vector measured in antiferromagnetically ordered CeRhIn5. A sharp spin resonance (variant Planck's over 2piGamma<0.07 meV) at variant Planck's over 2piomega=0.60+/-0.03 meV develops in the superconducting state removing spectral weight from low-energy transfers. The presence of a resonance peak is indicative of strong coupling between f-electron magnetism and superconductivity and consistent with a d-wave gap order parameter satisfying Delta(q+Q0)=-Delta(q).  相似文献

Substantial collective flow is observed in collisions between large nuclei at BNL RHIC (Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider) as evidenced by single-particle transverse momentum distributions and by azimuthal correlations among the produced particles. The data are well reproduced by perfect fluid dynamics. A calculation of the dimensionless ratio of shear viscosity eta to entropy density s by Kovtun, Son, and Starinets within anti-de Sitter space/conformal field theory yields eta/s=variant Planck's over 2pi/4pikB, which has been conjectured to be a lower bound for any physical system. Motivated by these results, we show that the transition from hadrons to quarks and gluons has behavior similar to helium, nitrogen, and water at and near their phase transitions in the ratio eta/s. We suggest that experimental measurements can pinpoint the location of this transition or rapid crossover in QCD.  相似文献

Vortices were imprinted in a Bose-Einstein condensate using topological phases. Sodium condensates held in a Ioffe-Pritchard magnetic trap were transformed from a nonrotating state to one with quantized circulation by adiabatically inverting the magnetic bias field along the trap axis. Using surface wave spectroscopy, the axial angular momentum per particle of the vortex states was found to be consistent with 2 variant Planck's over 2pi or 4 variant Planck's over 2pi, depending on the hyperfine state of the condensate.  相似文献

Motivated by the experimental search for "GHz nonclassical light," we identify the conditions under which current fluctuations in a narrow constriction generate sub-Poissonian radiation. Antibunched electrons generically produce bunched photons, because the same photon mode can be populated by electrons decaying independently from a range of initial energies. Photon antibunching becomes possible at frequencies close to the applied voltage V x e/variant Planck's over 2pi, when the initial energy range of a decaying electron is restricted. The condition for photon antibunching in a narrow frequency interval below eV/variant Planck's over 2pi reads [SigmanTn(1-Tn)]2<2Sigman[Tn(1-Tn)]2, with Tn an eigenvalue of the transmission matrix. This condition is satisfied in a quantum point contact, where only a single Tn differs from 0 or 1. The photon statistics is then a superposition of binomial distributions.  相似文献

We report that Bi doping drives Pr 2-x BixRu2O7 from an antiferromagnetic insulator (x = 0) to a metallic paramagnet (x approximately 1) with a broad low T maximum in C/T. Neutron scattering reveals local low energy spin excitations (variant Planck's omega approximately 1 meV) with a spectrum that is unaffected by heating to k(B)T > variant Planck's omega. We show that a continuous distribution of splittings of the non-Kramers Pr3+ ground-state doublet such as might result from various types of lattice strain can account for all the data.  相似文献

The quantum to classical transition for a system depends on many parameters, including a scale length for its action, variant Planck's over 2 pi, a measure of its coupling to the environment, D, and, for chaotic systems, the classical Lyapunov exponent, lambda. We propose measuring the proximity of quantum and classical evolutions as a multivariate function of (Planck's over 2 pi,lambda,D) and searching for transformations that collapse this hypersurface into a function of a composite parameter zeta= Planck's over 2 pi alpha)lambda beta D gamma. We report results for the quantum Cat Map and Duffing oscillator, showing accurate scaling behavior over a wide parameter range, indicating that this may be used to construct universality classes for this transition.  相似文献
