Two trail attractants for the termiteR. lucifugus have been isolated from the plantZizyphus jujuba: - and -bisabolenes. The identification of prostaglandin F2 isolated from the buds and cambial zone ofPopulus balsamifera and the buds ofLarix sibirica Ledeb, is described. The capacity of certain extracts of marine invertebrates of the Indian and Pacific Oceans for activating -1,3-glucanases has been detected. It has been shown that an individual compound — swinholide A from the spongeTheonella swinhoei — specifically activates -1,3-glucanases of bivlve mollusks. The cardenolide composition ofErysimum contractum Somm. et Lew. familyBrassicaceae (Cruciferae) has been investigated. The seeds of this plant have yielded strophanthidin, erysimin, erysimoside, erycordin, and new cardiac glycoside which has been called nigrescigenin digitoxoside. It has mp 141–145°C, []D 20+16.0±2° (c 0.75; methanol), C29H42O10. On the basis of chemical transformations and spectral investigations it has been established that the new glycoside is 3--D-digitoxopyranosyloxy-5,11,14-trihydroxy-19-oxo-5,14-card-20(22)-enolide. The compositions of the triterpene fractions of the unsaponifiable part of the ethereal extracts of the leaves ofB. nana andB. exilis have been studied. The leaves ofB. exilis have yielded a new triterpene for which the structure of 3,20(S),25-trihyproxydammar-23-ene is proposed, and a four component mixture of epimers at C-3 and C-24 of the compound 3,20(S),24-trihyproxydammar-25-ene. Eight compounds of triterpenoid nature have been isolated from the epigeal parts of the plantAstragalus alopecurus Pall. (Leguminosae) and have been designated in order of increasing polarity as substance 1–8. Using the method of analytical GLC in a glass capillary column, the compositions have been studied of the volatile fractions of the oleoresins of five species of conifers:Larix decidua,Pinus strobus,Pinus mugo,Picea excelsa, andPinus abies. In the oleoresins 21 monoterpene and 22 sesquiterpene compounds were identified from their relative retention times and with the aid of additives. The main components of the volatile fractions of the oleoresins were - and -pinenes and 3-carene among the monoterpenes, and longifolene caryophyllene, - and -cadinenes and -murolene among the sesquiterpene compounds.
