We propose an all-optical modulation formats combination scheme that merges an amplitude-shift keying (ASK) signal and a differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) signal into a single differential phase amplitude- shift keying (DPASK) signal based on parametric amplification in a highly nonlinear fiber. By optimizing the power of the ASK channel, formats combination of ASK and DPSK to DPASK signal is successfully demonstrated by computational simulation. The demodulation process of the generated DPASK pulses is investigated and the relationship between optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) penalty and the input ASK power is presented. The proposed scheme may be used for increasing spectral efficiency and all-optical logic device.  相似文献

Self-phase modulation and intrachannel cross-phase-modulation- (IXPM) induced nonlinear phase noise is investigated by the variational method. IXPM can cause a considerable increase of phase noise. We show, however, that IXPM leads to a partial correlation between the phase noises of adjacent pulses, which tends to reduce the influence of nonlinear phase noise in return-to-zero differential phase-shift keying transmission. In highly dispersive transmission systems, intrachannel four-wave mixing-induced differential phase fluctuations are typically larger than differential nonlinear phase noise. The analysis is validated by Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate label encoding-swapping and transmission for an orthogonally labeled packet by use of a 10-Gbit/s amplitude shift keying payload and a 2.5-Gbit/s polarization shift keying (PolSK) label. A simple scheme for demodulating and demultiplexing the PolSK label based on an injection-locked Fabry-Perot laser diode is described. The extinction ratio of the newly added PolSK label can be precisely controlled and maintained after the intermediate node.  相似文献

Optical performance monitoring of high-capacity networks is one of the enabling technologies of future reconfigurable optical switch networks. In such networks, rapid performance evaluation of data streams becomes challenging due to the use of advanced modulation formats and high data rates. The time-stretch enhanced recording oscilloscope offers a potential solution to monitoring high-rate data in a practical time scale. Here we demonstrate an architecture with a differential detection front end for simultaneous I/Q data monitoring of a 100 gigabits/s return-to-zero differential quadrature phase-shift keying signal. This demonstration shows the potential of this technology for rapid performance monitoring of high-rate optical data streams that employ advanced modulation formats.  相似文献

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a polarization shift keying label and a vestigial sideband carrier-suppressed return-to-zero payload scheme for a 43 Gbit/s all-optical label switching network. Real time phase regeneration is necessary for degraded phase modulation format optical communication systems.A regenerator based on the discrimitive gain effect of a semiconductor optical amplifier was proposed in recent years.In this paper,for this type of regenerator,its optimal working condition is found by solving the dynamic equations which describe the variance of the optical field and carrier density in the semiconductor optical amplifier by the finite difference method.The results show that the optimal improvement of signal Q factor can reach more than 2.2 dB.  相似文献

A novel dual polarization differential quadrature phase shift keying (DP-DQPSK) system is proposed, whose receiver is the same as the single polarization DQPSK system, while it does not need polarization de-multiplexing like the conventional polarization division multiplexing QPSK (PDM-QPSK). Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is mainly considered and PMD compensation for the DP-DQPSK system is studied. As the feedback signal for PMD compensation, the degree of polarization of the signals is discussed in detail. The results show that PMD tolerance can be improved by 89 ps within 1 dB optical signal noise ratio penalty after PMD compensation for the DP-DQPSK system.  相似文献

All-optical digital logic elementary circuits are the building blocks of many important computational operations in future high-speed all-optical networks and computing systems. Multifunctional and reconfigurable logic units are essential in this respect. Employing the demodulation properties of delay interferometers for input differential phase shift keying signals and the gain saturation effect in two parallel semiconductor optical amplifiers, a novel design of 40 Gbit/s reconfigurable all-optical dual-directional half-subtractor is proposed and demonstrated. All output logic results show that the scheme achieves over 11=dB extinction ratio, clear and wide open eye diagram, as well as low polarization dependence (< 1 dB), without using any additional input light beam. The scheme may provide a promising candidate for future ultrafast all-optical signal processing applications.  相似文献

A technique for monitoring both the pulse carving misalignment and pi phase shift in a return-to-zero (RZ) differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) system based on a phase modulator is proposed and demonstrated. By monitoring the mean-power variation of a hybrid local oscillation lightwave with the modulated signal lightwave without any deliberated control, the technique can provide the information on pulse carving misalignment and phase modulation index simultaneously, as the power variation reflects the asymmetric distribution of RZ-DPSK in a signal constellation diagram. It is characterized as transparent to signal bit rate, central wavelength, and absolute power level. Both the simulation and experiment results show that more than +/- 15% bit duration misalignment and +/- 5% phase shift deviated from pi can be detected.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new modulation and direct detection scheme of optical phase shift keying (PSK)which is simple and practical in fiber optical communication. A phase modulator is used to modulate a continuous wave (CW) laser source and return-to-zero (RZ) signal that is changed from the initial transmitting information is used to control a phase modulator to form a optical PSK signal. In the receiver terminal, just add a signal delayed a half of one bit to itself so that the initial information can be restored.  相似文献

This paper presents the detailed principle on the generation and detection of optical minimum shift keying (MSK) format for high-speed and high spectral efficiency WDM systems. 10.7 Gb/s optical MSK data is successfully generated by experiment using the proposed scheme. The results show that optical MSK signal exhibits very compact optical spectrum, which is promising for high spectral efficiency WDM applications. Simulation results on dispersion and nonlinear tolerance comparison confirm that MSK signal has better dispersion tolerance and nonlinear tolerance compared with 50% duty cycle return-to-zero differential phase shift keying (RZ-DPSK) and 50% duty cycle RZ on-off-keying (RZ-OOK) formats.  相似文献

A photonic approach for the generation of microwave hybrid frequency/phase shift keying (FSK/PSK) signal based on an integrated polarization division multiplexing dual-parallel Mach–Zehnder modulator (PDM-DPMZM) is proposed and demonstrated. In the scheme, the polarization modulator is employed to modulate the linearly polarized lightwave to generate an optical polarization-shift keying (PolSK) signal. Then the PolSK signal is sent to the PDM-DPMZM via a polarization controller to generate optical PSK signal. After photo-detection, a microwave hybrid FSK/PSK signal can be obtained. Simulations are conducted to verify the proposed scheme. As bit rate is set to 1 Gbit/s, a hybrid FSK/PSK signal with frequency of 10/15 GHz and phase shift of\(\pi\)is successfully demonstrated. Hybrid signals with 2-Git/s frequency shift and 1-Git/s phase shift are also implemented. The compression ratio of the generated signal is 25.5 and the main-to-sidelobe ratio is 11.2 dB. The generations of ASK, PSK and FSK signals are discussed, and the impact of the polarization extinction ratio is also analyzed.  相似文献
