The quantization and renormalization of massless electrodynamics in a spacetime of constant curvature are discused. A formalism is presented which is valid in an arbitrary number of dimensions and therefore allows the use of dimensional regularization. In the discussion of the photon propagator it is found that anomalous mass terms dependent on the curvature arise, although these vanish in four dimensions. Further, the gauge-fixing term in the Lagrangian has the unconventional feature of not being a perfect square. The renormalizability of the theory is then demonstrated to one loop order, and the renormalization constants are shown to retain their flat spacetime values. Finally, expansions for the renormalized electron and photon propagators in terms of appropriate spherical harmonics are derived.  相似文献

A manifestly scaling-invariant version of the Kirchoff-D'Adhemar-Penrose field integrals is presented. The invariant integral expressions for the spinning massless free fields are directly transcribed into the framework of twistor theory. It is then shown that the resulting twistorial field integrals can be thought of as being equivalent to the universal Penrose contour integral formulas for these fields.  相似文献

We give an explicit construction of conserved currents for massless fields of arbitrary spin. These currents are gauge invariant and conserved on shell. Also they allow for the construction of a large class of trilinear interaction terms for the interaction between a massless spin-s1 field and two spin-s2 fields. The class is restricted only to 2s2s1. In case s1 = 4 and s2 = 2, the current is the linearized Bel-Robinson tensor. To these conserved currents corresponds an infinite dimensional Lie algebra of global infinitesimal invariances of the action of a free massless field of arbitrary spin.  相似文献

Investigation of the massive propagators allows us to exhibit indecomposable representations appearing with masslessness. By direct examination of the propagators, we prove that massless fields in 3+2 De Sitter space propagate on the light cone. Indeed, it will be shown that a choice of gauge, in which all propagation is confined to the light cone, exists and, in this context, explicit expressions of homogeneous propagators for massless half-integer spin fields are obtained.  相似文献

The stress-energy tensor for the massless spin 1/2 field is numerically computed outside and on the event horizons of both charged and uncharged static nonrotating black holes, corresponding to the Schwarzschild, Reissner-Nordstr?m, and extreme Reissner-Nordstr?m solutions of Einstein's equations. The field is assumed to be in a thermal state at the black hole temperature. Comparison is made between the numerical results and previous analytic approximations for the stress-energy tensor in these spacetimes. For the Schwarzschild (charge zero) solution, it is shown that the stress energy differs even in sign from the analytic approximation. For the Reissner-Nordstr?m and extreme Reissner-Nordstr?m solutions, divergences predicted by the analytic approximations are shown not to exist.  相似文献

Free massless fermionic fields of arbitrary spins, corresponding to fully symmetric tensor-spinor irreducible representations of the flat little group SO(d−2), are described in d-dimensional anti-de Sitter space in terms of differential forms. General conditions are formulated within the framework of general relativity for suspension of rotating particles in static gravitational fields having the form of systems of differential equations for the components of the spin tensor. In the special case of suspension of particles in gravitational fields created by nonrotating objects, the spin components are a superposition of quantities which vary harmonically over time. Local supersymmetry leads to boundary conditions for fermionic fields in one-loop quantum cosmology involving the Euclidean normal e n A/A to the boundary and a pair of independent spinor fields A and . This paper studies the corresponding classical properties, i.e., the classical boundary-value problem and boundary terms in the variational problem. If is set to zero on a 3-sphere bounding flat Euclidean 4-space, the modes of the massless spin–1/2 field multiplying harmonics having positive eigenvalues for the intrinsic 3-dimensional Dirac operator onS 3 should vanish onS 3. Remarkably, this coincides with the property of the classical boundary-value problem when spectral boundary conditions are imposed onS 3 in the massless case. Simple cosmologies are constructed from solutions of the five-dimensional Einstein equations with a real massless non-self-interacting scalar field source. It is demonstrated that non-trivial cosmological models occur only if the metric of the homogeneous and isotropic three-space of the universe has non-positive constant curvature. For the case of flat three-space, it is further demonstrated that two classes of solutions result - one of which has a power-law type of expansion for three-space and contraction of the one-dimensional internal space, while the other class has an exponential expansion for three-space and exponential contraction of the internal space. The exponentially expanding solutions are the limiting case of the power-law expanding solutions. Hence, our model is consistent with a simple inflationary scenario.  相似文献

Motivated by the recent wave of investigations on plane domain wall spacetimes with nontrivial topologies, the present paper deals with (probably) the most simple source field configuration which can generate a spatially planary symmetric static spacetime, namely a minimally coupled massless scalar field that depends only upon a spacelike coordinate. z. It is shown that the corresponding exact solutions (. g±) are algebraically special, type D-[S-3T] (in11), and represent globally pathologic spacetimes with a G4-group of motion acting on R2 × R orbits. In spite of the model simplicity, these -generated worlds possess naked timelike singularities (reached within a finite universal time by normal nonspacelike geodesics). are completely free of Cauchy surfaces, and contain, in the t-leveled sections, points that cannot be joined by C1-trajectory images of oblique non-spacelike geodesies. This paper investigates the resonant frequencies of the massless scalar field in the near extremal Kerr-like black-brane spacetime. It is shown that the different angular quantum number will present different resonant frequencies. It is also shown that the real part of the resonant frequencies increases as the compact dimensions parameter μi increases, but the magnitude of the imaginary part decreases as μi increases.  相似文献

Using a generalized consistency condition (gcc), we construct couplings between massless scalar fields and the spin 2 gravitational field. Specifically, we consider all possible third-order interaction terms for scalar fields and a and use the gcc to single out one.
