The Callan-Gross relation is shown to be consistent with MIT-SLAC data for σL(Q2)σT(Q2) for x ? 0.33 in deep inelastic eN scattering, despite the fact that these data are taken in the large Q2 region where F1 and F2 individually exhibit scaling violation. Comparison is made with asymptotic freedom predictions, and color excitation is proposed to explain large values of σLσT at small x.  相似文献

A mechanism is exhibited that monotonically depresses the cylinder component of the topological expansion with increasing t, and it is conjectured that all non-planar S-matrix components diminish as t increases, exchange degeneracy and the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka rule becoming more accurately satisfied. Such asymptotic planarity is compared to the field-theoretical concept of asymptotic freedom. The characteristics low-t cylinder “quenching interval” is found to be the inverse of the mean value over a two-reggeon loop, of 12π2(α′)2(t1 ? t2)2/(?t), where t1and t2 are the squared masses of the loop reggeons and α′ is the trajectory slope. For leading trajectories the low-t cylinder quenching interval is predicted by this formula to be roughly 0.5 GeV2-consistent with the observed pomeron intercept and slope, with the p-ω and f-A2 mass differences and with the (φ,ω) deviation from ideal mixing. As t grows negatively over a corresponding interval, it is predicted that the pomeron will become nearly a pure SU(3) singlet. If the pion mass helps to set the scale for reggeon loops coupled to unnatural-parity trajectories, the cylinder quenching interval will be larger, explaining the large (η, η′) deviation from ideal mixing as well as the large π-η mass difference. Even when the small-t cylinder quenching is rapid (“precocious planarity”) the large-t approach to the planar limit turns out to be gentle. A by-product of this study is an explanation of the approximate reality and linearity of trajectories at large t.  相似文献

If KS1,Lis a K1 resonance decaying into KS,L (the short- and long-lived kaon) and a neutral system So of pions, one can isolate the C-even and C-odd, crossed-channel contributions to KN → K1N by using the reactions KLN → KS1, LN whether So is a C-eigenstate, or a mixture of C-even and C-odd states. Applications to the production of K1(890) and the Q-meson are discussed, and simple numerical predictions made for QS,L production. Q-production data indicate approximate t-channel helicity conservation for the ω and P' exchanges at vertices involving a spin change, in similarity to the belief for the pomeron. QS,L production data can give information also on Q-decays.  相似文献

The relationship of the non-diffractive renormalization of the bare pomeron viaKK and BB production - or its “flavoring” by λ quark loops and di-quark loops - and the shape of the NN total cross section is studied in some detail. The “unflavored” bare pomeron P? generated by non-strange quark loops with intercept α=0.85 is non-diffractively renormalized into the “flavored” (Gribov) bare pomeron P with intercept α above one (α = 1.06 here). We utilize inclusive data on KKandBB production as well as inelastic diffraction to constrain parameters, and we fit the combination 12pp + σpp) from s = 10 GeV2 through ISR energies, including the new Fermilab data, to high accuracy. No pronounced long wavelength oscillations are observed. We suggest that these data favor the Chew-Rosenzweig realization of the topological expansion over that of Harari-Freund. We show that our scheme is consistent with the rising behavior of 2σKN ? σπN.  相似文献

We analyse the impurity induced scattering cross sections with (σsf) or without (σr) spin-flip, for conduction electrons in lithium and sodium. We show that the experimental values of σsfσr, are approximately equal to the Elliott parameter (λΔ)2 (λ is the spin-orbit splitting of an impurity state (A) close to the impurity conduction band (C), and Δ is the energy separation between (C) and (A). We conclude that the Elliott calculation is valid not only for a spin-independent scattering potential, but also for the perturbation due to heavy impurities (strong spin-orbit coupling) dissolved in light metals (weak spin-orbit coupling).  相似文献

We show that in QCD the production of high-pt hadrons in the pionization region ln(pt2μ2) < [(8ND0.21 β2) ln x?1]12 is not a rare process, but a usual “soft” one. Its inclusive cross section ? behaves as ? = dσdydpt2σtpt02. At ISABELLE energies and pt = 10 GeV we estimate this cross section to be at least an order larger than the value obtained by commonly used parametrizations.  相似文献

We measured the differential cross section for p?p and pp elastic scattering in the momentum-transfer range 0.01 <|t| < 1.0 GeV2 at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings with center-of-mass energy s = 52.8 GeV. Fitting the differential cross section with an exponential [Aexp (bt)], we found bpp = 13.92 ± 0.59 GeV?2 for |t| < 0.05 GeV2, whilst for |t| > 0.09 GeV2, bpp = 10.68 ± 0.26 GeV?2. Using the optical theorem, we obtained for the total cross section σtot(pp)= 44.86 ± 0.78 mb and, by integrating the differential cross section, we obtained for the total elastic cross section σel(pp) = 7.89 ± 0.28 mb. Calculations of σtot combining elastic-rate and total-rate measurements are also given. All of these measurements were also performed for pp scattering at the same energy, and the results for both reactions are compared.  相似文献

We investigate transition strengths of right-handed weak charged currents in deep inelastic neutrino scattering, exploiting the dominance of p, n valence quarks in the nucleon. The energy dependence of σt and the average quantities 〈y〉 and 〈Q2〉 are shown to provide sensitive measures of new quark production thresholds and right-handed currents in νN scattering. With our analysis, the present data give an upper bound on the right to left hand structure function ratio of FRνNFLνN12, above a threshold of W≈7.5 GeV.  相似文献

We study the correlation function 〈σ0x(t)σnx(0)〉 of the transverse Ising model in a critical field whose hamiltonian is 12Σllxσl+1xlz}. At an arbitrary temperature T we relate the autocorrelation to a Fredholm determinant. Moreover at T = 0 the correlations are given by a Painlevé V function for all n. The long-time asymptotic behavior of this function is found and the connection problem is studied. This result contains oscillatory terms which are related to the density of states at the Brillouin zone boundary.  相似文献

We have obtained a least upper bound, kBTc ? c(μ1, t)A, on the critical temperature Tc of an isotropic superconductor with paramagnetic impurities described by the scattering matrix t for fixed values of μ1. We have also obtained the corresponding optimal spectrum α2F(m) = Aδ[ω?d(μ1, A]. The numerical results for the functions c(μ1, t) and d(μ1, t) are presented for α1 = 0.1 and 0.16 in the form of universal curves representing c(μ1, t) and d(μ1, t) as functions of the reduced impurity concentration t = t/A. We have also established an upper limit to the reduced critical concentration tcrit for an arbitrary shape of α2F(ω)1.  相似文献

By generalizing fP universality to Regge-particle “scattering” we obtain sdσdt dM2 = F(sM2,t)[1 + M?1 bf(0)bP(0)] for pp → pX, where bf(t) and bP(t) are the f and P Regge residues for, say, pp → pp. This agrees with the recent NAL data.  相似文献

In an effort to develop a quantitative check of asymptotically free color-gauge theories, we analyze the logarithmic corrections to ξ-scaling coming from anomalous dimensions and coefficient functions of twist-two operators and compare with electroproduction data for 1 ? Q2 ? 16 GeV2. Excellent agreement is obtained using g2(2 GeV)2 = 0.17 for the effective quark-gluon coupling in the color-gauge theory. Effects of higher-twist operators are suppressed by powers of M02Q2. We use data from the resonance region to show M0 ? 400 MeV, in agreement with theoretical expectations. Our fit to νW2 in the scaling region also describes the resonance region in the sense of Bloom-gilman local duality. We show that local duality is a consequence of the moment predictions obtained from the operator-product expansion in quantum chromodynamics. We resolve a paradox associated with local duality and spin-zero targets. Present measurements of R = σLσT at large x and Q2 are systematically higher than our predictions.  相似文献

The model assumes that when two high energy particles collide each behaves as a geometrical object which has a Gaussian density and is spherically symmetric except for the Lorentz-contraction in the incident direction. Folding the two spatial distribution together we obtain the slope (b) of the elastic diffraction peak in terms of the c.m. velocities (βi and βj) and the sizes (Ai and Aj) of the two incident particles. These sizes are assumed to have the experimental s-dependence of σtotπA2 for each reaction. The combined s-dependence of the σtot's and the β's gives the s-dependence of the elastic slope bij(s) = 12(Ai2βi2 + Aj2βj2)σijtot(s)σijtot(∞). This formula agrees with the experimental slope for p-p, p-p, K+-p, K?-p and π±-p elastic scattering from 3 to 1500 GeV/c, with only 3 parameters: Aπ2 = 6.1, AK2 = 3.3 and Ap2 = 10.5 (GeV/c)?2.  相似文献

The reaction π?p → (pn)ps, where ps is a slow proton, was measured at 12 GeV/c incident momentum with the CERN-OMEGA spectrometer. Both antiproton and proton were identified uniquely by electronics information. We obtained 1844 events with four-momentum Transfer squared in the range 0.13 ? |t| ? 0.33 GeV2 and with invariant masses M(pn) up to 2.5 GeV. The corresponding cross section in this t range is determined to be σ = 4 ± 0.4 μb. Extrapolating the differential cross section over the whole t range assuming dσ/dt ≈ exp(5.3t) we estimate a cross section of σ = 9.3 ± 2.0 μb. Comparison with data on π?p → (pp)ns (where ns is a slow neutron) in the same t range shows that the (pn)psand (pp)ns cross sections have approximately the same magnitude.  相似文献

The one-electron momentum distribution function 〈a2a for an electron gas is investigated by a diagrammatic analysis of perturbation theory. It is shown that 〈a2a has the following exact asymptotic form for large k (k ? pF; pF, the Fermi momentum): 〈a2a〉 = 49(αrsπ)2×(pF8k8) g?(0) + ?, where g?(0) is the zero-distance value of the spin-up-spin-down pair correlation function. For the first time, the reactions π+p→K++ and K?p→π?+ have been studied in the same apparatus. This has been done at an adequately high momentum (10.1 GeV/c) to allow a check of the prediction of exchange degeneracy, that the differential cross sections should be converging at high energy. We have measured the cross section for momentum transfers t between tmin and t = ?0.3 (GeV/c)2. We find that for both reactions the differential cross section shows an exponential fall, with no deviations right in to t =tmin (where some other experiments have shown a dip in the cross section). Furthermore, we find the magnitude of the differential cross sections to be closely similar at t = 0, with a ratio
R=(dσdt)t=0(K?p→π?+)(dσdt)t=0+pK++
However, the slope for the positive reaction is about 19% steeper than that for the negative reaction.  相似文献

We show that baryon-antibaryon annihilations into mesons contribute, via unitarity, mainly to the pomeron term in the total BB cross section. The meson-exchange term is mainly built by non-annihilation processes. These results are contrary to previous ideas according to which BB annihilations are responsible for the difference between σtot(BB) and σtot(BB) and contribute to the meson exchange term. Our conclusions are based on an explicit duality diagram model which we discuss in some detail. However, a much wider class of models give similar results. Experimental tests of our ideas are proposed.  相似文献

The J = 2?1 microwave spectrum of six isotopic species of HSiF3 has been observed and assigned in excited states of five of the six fundamental vibrations. The assignment is based on relative intensities, double resonance experiments, and trial anharmonic force constant calculations. Analysis of the spectra leads to experimental values for five of the αrB constants, all three l-doubling constants qt, one Fermi resonance constant φ233, and one zeta constant ζ6, 6(z).The harmonic force field has been refined to all the available data on vibration wavenumbers, centrifugal distortion constants, and zeta constants. The cubic anharmonic force field has been refined to the data on αrB and qt constants, using two models: a valence force model with two cubic force constants for SiH and SiF stretching, and a more sophisticated model. With the help of these calculations, the following equilibrium structure has been determined: re(SiH) = 1.4468(±5) A?, re(SiF) = 1.5624(±1) A?, ∠HSiF = 110.64(±3)°,  相似文献
