Ultraviolet pulses of 200 ps duration are focused in vacuum, and launched into the atmosphere through an aerodynamic window. Instead of diffracting, above a threshold of 100 mJ, the beam propagates in a self-induced waveguide in air. The peak electric field and beam profile are consistent with the eigenfunction of a modified nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The evolution of the beam waist with distance is calculated by a combination of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation and an equation for the nonlinear losses.  相似文献

Wave beams propagated in a nonlinear cubic medium are examined. A wave beam is found that becomes a Townes beam by quasioptic transition. We propose a type of lossless nonlinear polarizer, novel to our knowledge, a device that transforms any input state of polarization (SOP) of a signal beam into one and the same well-defined SOP toward the output, and perform this without any polarization-dependent losses. At the polarizer output end, the signal SOP appears to be locked to the input pump SOP. The polarizer is based on the nonlinear Kerr interaction of copropagating signal and pump beams in a telecom or randomly birefringent optical fiber.  相似文献

 分析了高功率超高斯光束在非线性介质中传播的基本理论,用分步傅里叶变换方法计算了10阶超高斯光束在非线性介质内的传输过程,最后采用具有负折射率系数的非线性介质作为补偿材料,对不同的补偿方式进行了对比分析。研究表明,四种补偿方式均可以大大减小光束的B积分,有效防止超高斯光束边缘的非线性增长,降低光束的小尺度自聚焦,同时选用后补偿作为最佳补偿方式。  相似文献

Self-similarity conditions are determined for the steady states of a quasineutral beam plasma generated during the transport of ion beams in a gaseous medium. The self-consistent radial distribution of the beam and plasma densities is taken into account. Under the resulting conditions the radial electric field of the beam-plasma system is linear, and it is possible for beams to be transported without nonlinear distortion of their phase response characteristics or an increase in the effective emittance. 当高功率激光通过Kerr非线性介质传输时,Kerr效应会严重影响激光的传输特性.实际应用中常遇到像散光束.迄今为止,像散光束传输特性的研究大都局限于在线性介质中的传输,而在非线性介质中传输的研究较少,且还未涉及像散激光束通过含光学系统的Kerr非线性介质传输变换的研究.本文主要研究Kerr效应对聚焦光束像散特性和焦移特性的影响,以及聚焦像散高斯光束的自聚焦焦距和光束焦点调控.在光束扩展情况下,推导出了聚焦像散高斯光束在Kerr非线性介质中传输的束宽、束腰位置和焦移的解析公式,研究表明:在自聚焦介质中,随着自聚焦作用增强(如光束功率增强),光束像散越强,但焦移越小;在自散焦介质中,随着自散焦作用增强(如光束功率增强),光束像散越弱,但焦移越大.另一方面,在光束自聚焦情况下,推导出了自聚焦焦距的解析公式,研究表明利用光束像散可以调控光束焦点个数.  相似文献

We investigate theoretically the nonlinear propagation of the limited diffraction Bessel beam in nonlinear media, under the successive approximation of the KZK equation. The result shows that the nth-order harmonic of the Bessel beam, like its fundamental component, is radially limited diffracting, and that the main beamwidth of the nth-order harmonic is exactly 1/n times that of the fundamental.  相似文献

研究得到了偏离束腰入射的复宗量Laguerre-Gauss光束在强非局域非线性介质中传输的解析表达式,并且得到了其二阶矩束宽的解析解.通过例子研究了偏离束腰入射的复宗量Laguerre-Gauss光束在强非局域非线性介质中传输性质.结果表明:非(0, m)模的复宗量Laguerre-Gauss光束的光束形状随着传输而发生改变,并以Δzzc为周期做周期性演化.而(0,m)模复宗量Laguerre-Gauss光束在演化过程中则形状保持不变,仅改变光束宽度;不论功率多大,在偏离束腰入射条件下总是表现为呼吸子;只有当其为束腰入射,并且入射功率等于临界功率时才能形成孤子. 关键词: 强非局域非线性 复宗量Laguerre-Gauss光束 二阶矩束宽 空间光孤子  相似文献

The propagation of four-petal Gaussian beams in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media has been studied. The analytical solution and the analytical second-order moment beam width are obtained. For the off-waist incident and the waist incident cases, the intensity pattern evolves periodically during propagation in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media. Under the off-waist incident condition, the second-order moment beam width varies periodically during propagation, whatever the input power is. But under the waist incident condition, there exists a critical power. When the input power equals the critical power, the second-order moment beam width remains invariant, otherwise the second-order moment beam width varies periodically. Numerical simulations based on the nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equation are carried out for comparison with the theoretical predictions. The results show that the numerical simulations are in good agreement with the analytical results in the case of strong nonlocality.  相似文献

The bandwidth and the duration of incident pulsed beam are proved to play important roles in modifying the nonlinear image of amplitude-type scatterer.It is found that the initially positive chirp-type bandwidth can suppress the nonlinear image,while the negative one can enhance it,and that both effects are inversely proportional to the incident pulse duration.Numerical simulations further demonstrate that the location of nonlinear image is at the conjugate plane of the scatterer and that,for negatively pre-chirped pulsed beam,the nonlinear image peak intensity can be higher than that in the corresponding monochromatic case under certain conditions.Moreover the effect of group velocity dispersion on nonlinear image is found to be similar to that of chirp-type bandwidth.  相似文献

This Letter reports the first observations of an anomalous hollow electron beam in the Duke storage ring. Created by exciting the single-bunch beam in a lattice with a negative chromaticity, the hollow beam consists of a solid core inside and a large ring outside. We report the detailed measurements of the hollow beam phenomenon, including its distinct image pattern, spectrum signature, and its evolution with time. By capturing the postinstability bursting beam, the hollow beam is a unique model system for studying the transverse instabilities, in particular, the interplay of the wakefield and the lattice nonlinearity. In addition, the hollow beam can be used as a powerful tool to study the linear and nonlinear particle dynamics in the storage ring.  相似文献

A possibility of a waveguide propagation of sound beams in the case of compensation of the diffraction divergence by the nonlinear refraction is demonstrated theoretically. A stationary (with respect to the longitudinal coordinate) solution is obtained to the nonlinear equation for a sound beam (the Khokhlov—Zabolotskaya equation); the solution describes the characteristic bow-shaped profile of the beam and the self-localized (with respect to the transverse coordinate) distribution of the peak values of this profile. The physical and mathematical features of this phenomenon belonging to nonlinear acoustics are discussed and compared with those of the well-known analog from nonlinear optics. A scheme of an experimental realization of the waveguide propagation of acoustic beams is proposed.  相似文献

Free nonlinear transverse vibration is investigated for an axially moving beam modeled by an integro-partial-differential equation. Based on the equation, a conserved quantity is defined and confirmed for axially moving beams with pinned or clamped ends. The conserved quantity is applied to demonstrate the Lyapunov stability of the straight equilibrium configuration in transverse nonlinear of beam with a low axial speed.  相似文献

For a nonlinear medium, a given incident laser beam may produce different transmitted light waves. This phenomenon (the so-called optical bistability) corresponds to multiple solutions of the boundary value problems of the nonlinear Helmholtz equation. Optical bistability can be useful in the design of optical switches. Devices that display this behavior could potentially play a major role in the development of optical communication systems and computing. In this article we present experimental results concerning the optical bistability in photorefractive BaTiO3:Fe crystal. Two laser beams were used to interact with the photorefractive crystal which resulted in the bistability of the intensity of transmitted wave. This was achieved without the application of any optical resonator. High contrast optical bistability is found experimentally in the pump-ratio dependence of the output intensity.  相似文献

Dynamics of a quadruple laser beam propagating through collisionless plasma has been investigated. The dielectric function of the plasma has been obtained for ponderomotive nonlinearity. Moment theory has been used to find the solution of nonlinear Schrodinger wave equation for the field of laser beam. Particular emphases is put on the variations of both the beam width and longitudinal phase delay with distance of propagation through the plasma. We investigate periodic inversion and phase transition of normal and displaced finite-energy Airy beams propagating in nonlocal nonlinear media with the split-step Fourier method. Numerical simulation results show that parameters such as the degree of nonlocality and amplitude have profound effects on the intensity distribution of the period of an Airy beam. Nonlocal nonlinear media will reduce into a harmonic potential if the nonlocality is strong enough, which results in the beam fluctuating in an approximately cosine mode. The beam profile changes from an Airy profile to a Gaussian one at a critical point, and during propagation the process repeats to form an unusual oscillation. We also briefly discus the two-dimensional case, being equivalent to a product of two one-dimensional cases.  相似文献

In this paper, we study flexural vibrations of a cantilever beam with thin rectangular cross section submerged in a quiescent viscous fluid and undergoing oscillations whose amplitude is comparable with its width. The structure is modeled using Euler–Bernoulli beam theory and the distributed hydrodynamic loading is described by a single complex-valued hydrodynamic function which accounts for added mass and fluid damping experienced by the structure. We perform a parametric 2D computational fluid dynamics analysis of an oscillating rigid lamina, representative of a generic beam cross section, to understand the dependence of the hydrodynamic function on the governing flow parameters. We find that increasing the frequency and amplitude of the vibration elicits vortex shedding and convection phenomena which are, in turn, responsible for nonlinear hydrodynamic damping. We establish a manageable nonlinear correction to the classical hydrodynamic function developed for small amplitude vibration and we derive a computationally efficient reduced order modal model for the beam nonlinear oscillations. Numerical and theoretical results are validated by comparison with ad hoc designed experiments on tapered beams and multimodal vibrations and with data available in the literature. Findings from this work are expected to find applications in the design of slender structures of interest in marine applications, such as biomimetic propulsion systems and energy harvesting devices.  相似文献

We study theoretically wideband modulation instability at combination frequencies in media having cubic nonlinearity of self-focusing type along with the higher-order defocusing nonlinearity. It is assumed that in a medium with a purely cubic nonlinearity, the medium dispersion does not permit modulation instability. In this case, a collapse of the wave field exists if the beam power is higher than the critical power of self-focusing. The higher-order nonlinearity limits the field at the nonlinear focus, and the instability at combination frequencies becomes possible. It turns out that the field at the nonlinear focus increases with increasing excess of the beam power over the critical power of self-focusing. The obtained values of the nonlinear dielectric permittivity are used for determination of the growth rates of instability at combination frequencies. These growth rates ensure an increase in the combination fields from noise levels up to values comparable with the field of the high-power beam. Such an increase takes place if the beam power is severalfold higher than the critical one. The interaction dynamics between two incoherent light beams in a medium with thermal nonlin-earity is studied both experimentally and theoretically. It is shown that in the mode of a nonlinear reflection the transformation of a spatial structure of a weak signal beam can be theoretically described in the framework of a spatially distributed model for a nonlinear change in the refractive index of the medium.  相似文献

A vorticity of free propagating SH beam produced in nonlinear crystal by combined beam composed of two coaxial Laguerre–Gaussian vortex beams is analyzed. It is revealed that the vortical structures of SH beam in the near and far fields are different when two vortex beams are carrying vortices with topological charges of different signs. The diffraction of SH beam under free propagation is investigated. A qualitative agreement of the theoretical predictions with experimental results is obtained.  相似文献
