An ultracompact refractive index sensing based on the sandwich structure of photonic crystal is presented and demonstrated with solutions of water, methylsilicone and silicone. The performances of the sensor are analyzed theoretically by using Fabry-Perot cavity mode, the change in opposite direction between the transmission of the refractive index sensing and its quality factor is derived. We report on the experimental demonstration of a refractive index sensing technique based on the photonic bandgap (PBG) shift in two types of solid-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) structures with a series of high refractive index infiltrations. Bandgap edge and central wavelength with a significant red-shift are observed with the increase of infiltration material index. The measurement results from both structures agree well with the frequency scaling law, which helps to simplify the process of sample preparation in PCF-based sensors using the infiltration method. Refractive index resolution up to 10−6 refractive index unit (RIU) can be achieved experimentally, which is two orders of magnitude higher than that in PCF-based long-period gratings. 相似文献

The principal refractive indices of L-lysine monohydrochloride dihydrate (L-LMHCl) single crystal for different wavelengths were measured by minimum deviation method at room temperature. The experimental values of refractive indices fit well with the theoretical Cauchy's equations. The birefringence and the crossing angle between the optical axes were calculated. The parameters of Sellmeier's single term dispersion equation were determined by least square method. A simple interferometric technique was used to observe the interference patterns along the optic plane and to qualitatively analyze the optical homogeneity of the grown crystal. The nonlinear refractive index (n2) and nonlinear absorption coefficient (β) were also determined using Z-scan technique. 以波长为632.8 nm的He-Ne激光作为光源,研究了三方相弛豫铁电单晶0.93Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.07PbTiO3在室温下的折射率和线性电光性质.通过测量晶体的布儒斯特角,确定了单晶的两个主轴折射率:no=2.466,ne=2.488.利用改进的马赫-泽德尔干涉法测量了单晶的线性电光系数:r33=71 pm/V,r13=4 pm/V.计算得到有效电光系数rc=67 pm/V及半波电压Vπ=610 V.单晶优异的电光性能使其在激光调制与偏转领域有着巨大的应用潜力. 相似文献

Two highly sensitive optical sensor topologies are proposed and simulated in this paper. The proposed structures are optimized to provide better performance characteristics such as sensitivity, detection limit, and quality factor. They are based on two-dimensional photonic crystals consisting of rectangular arrays of GaAs rods in SiO2 substrates. Such lattices have bandgaps for transverse magnetic modes. Two-dimensional finite difference time domain and plane wave expansion methods are used for the simulation and analysis of the refractive index sensors and particle swarm optimization method is used to optimize the structural parameters. The designed structures show a high sensitivity to refractive index variations. They are able to detect refractive indices from 1.33 to 1.5. An excellent figure of merit equal to 737 RIU?1 is observed for the proposed structure and a significant improvement is observed compared to the structures reported in the literature. 相似文献
