the logistic midrange is closely examined. Its distribution function is derived using Dixon's formula (Bailey (1935,Generalized Hypergeometric Series, Cambridge University Press, p. 13)) for the generalized hypergeometric function with unit argument, together with appropriate
techniques for the inversion of (bilateral) Laplace transforms. Several relationships in distribution are established between
the midrange and sample median of the logistic and Laplace random variables. Possible applications in testing for outliers

Let P be a not necessarily bounded polycycle of an analytic vector field on an open set of the plane. Suppose that the singularities which appear after desingularization of the vertices of P are formally linearizable. Consider the function T defined by the return time near P. It is shown that the function T and its derivative T′ have asymptotic expansions in and . It is also shown that under some other conditions imposed on the polycycle vertices, the asymptotic expansions of T and T′ converge absolutely and uniformly to these functions, respectively. These results are applied to the polycycles of the analytic vector fields which have a Darboux first integral. In particular, it is obtained that if P is a polycycle of a Hamiltonian vector field with an analytic (polynomial if P is unbounded) Hamiltonian function, T is a nonoscillating function. Another application concerns the nilpotent centers or focus, since the singularities which appear after desingularization of such a singularity have analytic first integrals. 相似文献

We study the stability of scalar delayed equations of logistic type with a positive equilibrium and a linear logistic term. The global asymptotic stability of the positive equilibrium, called the carrying capacity, is proven imposing a condition on a negative feedback term without delay dominating the delayed effect. It turns out that this assumption is a necessary and sufficient condition for the linearized equation about the positive equilibrium to be asymptotically stable, globally in the delays. The global stability of more general scalar delay differential equations is also addressed. 相似文献

Summary We study the asymptotic expansion in small time of the solution of a stochastic differential equation. We obtain a universal and explicit formula in terms of Lie brackets and iterated stochastic Stratonovich integrals. This formula contains the results of Doss [6], Sussmann [15], Fliess and Normand-Cyrot [7], Krener and Lobry [10], Yamato [17] and Kunita [11] in the nilpotent case, and extends to general diffusions the representation given by Ben Arous [3] for invariant diffusions on a Lie group. In this paper we study the asymptotic expansion of sequences of multivariate Kantorovich type operators and their partial derivatives. In particular, we obtain the complete expansion for the Kantorovich Bernstein operators on the simplex and for two Kantorovich type modifications of the Bleimann, Butzer and Hahn operators that we introduce in the paper.

Sensitive measurement and control equipment are protected from disturbing electromagnetic fields by thin shielding sheets. Alternatively to discretisation of the sheets, the electromagnetic fields are modeled only in the surrounding of the layer taking them into account with the so called Generalised Impedance Boundary Conditions. We study the shielding effect by means of the model problem of a diffusion equation with additional dissipation in the curved thin sheet. We use the asymptotic expansion techniques to derive a limit problem, when the thickness of the sheet ε tends to zero, as well as the models for contribution to the solution of higher order in ε. These problems are posed in limit area of vanishing ε with condition for the jump of the solution and it's normal derivative, which avoid to mesh the computational domain, even locally, at the scale of ε. We derive the problems for arbitrary order and show their existence and uniqueness. Numerical experiments for the problems up to second order show the asymptotic convergence of the solution of right order in mean of the thickness parameter ε. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
