Let be a Euclidean or hyperbolic building and let GAut be a locally compact unimodular group, which acts strongly transitively on . We use graphs , quasi-isometric to , to study asymptotic properties of quotients , where is a discrete subgroup of G. If G has Kazhdans property (T) we show that such quotients satisfy strong isoperimetric inequalities. This yields new examples of graphs with positive Cheeger constant. Such graphs cannot be bi-Lipschitz embedded into Hilbert space. Moreover, simple random walks on such quotients are shown to be recurrent if and only if is a uniform lattice in G.Mathematics Subject Classification (1991): 11E95, 22E40, 22E50, 51E24, 60G50in final form: 10 October 2003  相似文献

Let be a regular arithmetic surface. Assume that for all irreducible curves there are given open normal subgroups of 1(C), which fulfill a compatibility condition at all closed points x . We then show that these data uniquely determine a normal subgroup of 1(). This is used to construct abelian class field theory for arithmetic surfaces using only K0 and K1 groups of local and global fields.Mathematics Subject Classification (2000): 14G40, 11R37, 14H25  相似文献

Let f an endomorphism of of degree >1. We show how to obtain a bound (depending only on n) on the number of codimension-two subspaces in which are completely invariant for f (where L is completely invariant for f means that f–1(L)=L set-theoretically).  相似文献

Let X be a projective algebraic variety over of dimension d, reduced and irreducible. In this paper we propose a definition for differential forms w of degree d on X to be holomorphic at an arbitrary point of X (which may be a singular point). It will be shown that the holomorphic d-forms define a sheaf X, which coincides with the usual sheaf of holomorphic d-forms X in case X has no singularities. Moreover, X is isomorphic to the canonical sheaf of Grothendieck [5]:, (if X is a closed subvariety of n). Thus in the Serre duality theorem for projective varieties with singularities may be replaced by X.  相似文献

Let X0=0, X1, X2,.. be an aperiodic random walk generated by a sequence 1, 2,... of i.i.d. integer-valued random variables with common distribution p(·) having zero mean and finite variance. For anN-step trajectory and a monotone convex functionV: withV(0)=0, define Further, let be the set of all non-negative paths compatible with the boundary conditionsX0=a, XN=b. We discuss asymptotic properties of under the probability distribution N and 0, Za,bN,+, being the corresponding normalization. If V(·) grows not faster than polynomially at infinity, define H() to be the unique solution to the equation Our main result reads that as 0, the typical height of X[, N] scales as H() and the correlations along decay exponentially on the scale H()2. Using a suitable blocking argument, we show that the distribution tails of the rescaled height decay exponentially with critical exponent 3/2. In the particular case of linear potential V(·), the characteristic length H() is proportional to -1/3 as 0.Mathematics Subject Classification (2000):60G50, 60K35; 82B27, 82B41  相似文献

In this paper we show that there exists a free convenient vector space for the case of holomorphic spaces and holomorphic maps. This means that for every spaceX with a holomorphic structure, there exists an appropriately complete locally convex vector space X and a holomorphic mapl X:XX, such that for any vector space of the same kind the map (l X )*:L(X,E)(X,E) is a bijection. Analogously to the smooth case treated in [2, 5.1.1] the free convenient vector space X can be obtained as the Mackey closure of the linear subspace spanned by the image of the canonical mapX(X).In the second part of the paper we prove that in the case whereX is a Riemann surface, one hasX=(X,).  相似文献

For two-dimensional toric varieties X, an analog of the Fubini–Studi form 0 is constructed together with the canonical form 0 that is the kernel of an integral representation for holomorphic functions in d-circular domains in C d connected with two-dimensional toric varieties X. This kernel is shown to be a closed differential form in C d defining the associated positive form 0 on X.  相似文献

Let X be any Banach space and T a bounded operator on X. An extension of the pair (X,T) consists of a Banach space in which X embeds isometrically through an isometry i and a bounded operator on such that When X is separable, it is additionally required that be separable. We say that is a topologically transitive extension of (X, T) when is topologically transitive on , i.e. for every pair of non-empty open subsets of there exists an integer n such that is non-empty. We show that any such pair (X,T) admits a topologically transitive extension , and that when H is a Hilbert space, (H,T) admits a topologically transitive extension where is also a Hilbert space. We show that these extensions are indeed chaotic.Mathematics Subject Classification (2000): 47 A 16  相似文献

Let G be a compact Lie group, and let LG denote the corresponding loop group. Let (X,) be a weakly symplectic Banach manifold. Consider a Hamiltonian action of LG on (X,), and assume that the moment map :XL * is proper. We consider the function ||2:X, and use a version of Morse theory to show that the inclusion map j:-1(0)X induces a surjection j *:H G *(X)H G *(-1(0)), in analogy with Kirwans surjectivity theorem in the finite-dimensional case. We also prove a version of this surjectivity theorem for quasi-Hamiltonian G-spaces.  相似文献

In the power setP(E) of a setE, the sets of a fixed finite cardinalityk form across-cut, that is, a maximal unordered setC such that ifX, Y E satisfyXY, X someX inC, andY someY inC, thenXZY for someZ inC. ForE=, 1, and 2, it is shown with the aid of the continuum hypothesis thatP(E) has cross-cuts consisting of infinite sets with infinite complements, and somewhat stronger results are proved for and 1.The work reported here has been partially supported by NSERC Grant No. A8054.  相似文献

One says thatt>0 is an increase time for a real-valued path if stays above the level (t) immediately after timet, and below (t) immediately before timet. Dvoretzkyet al.,(10) proved that Brownian motion has no increase times a.s. This result is extended here to (strictly) stable processes. Specifically, the probability that a stable processX possesses increase times is 0 if and only ifP(X 10)1/2.  相似文献

Let M be a two dimensional complex manifold, p ∈ M and a germ of holomorphic foliation of M at p. Let be a germ of an irreducible, possibly singular, curve at p in M which is a separatrix for . We prove that if the Camacho-Sad-Suwa index Ind then there exists another separatrix for at p. A similar result is proved for the existence of parabolic curves for germs of holomorphic diffeomorphisms near a curve of fixed points.  相似文献

We introduce two new local 1-indices of the same type as the Bourgain 1-index; the +1-index and the +1-weakly null index. We show that the +1-weakly null index of a Banach space X is the same as the Szlenk index of X, provided X does not contain 1. The +1-weakly null index has the same form as the Bourgain 1-index: if it is countable it must take values for some <1. The different 1-indices are closely related and so knowing the Szlenk index of a Banach space helps us calculate its 1-index, via the +1-weakly null index. We show that I(C())=^1++1.  相似文献

We obtain rigidity and gluing results for the Morse complex of a real-valued Morse function as well as for the Novikov complex of a circle-valued Morse function. A rigidity result is also proved for the Floer complex of a hamiltonian defined on a closed symplectic manifold (M,) with c1|2(M)=[]|2(M)=0. The rigidity results for these complexes show that the complex of a fixed generic function/hamiltonian is a retract of the Morse (respectively Novikov or Floer) complex of any other sufficiently C0 close generic function/hamiltonian. The gluing result is a type of Mayer-Vietoris formula for the Morse complex. It is used to express algebraically the Novikov complex up to isomorphism in terms of the Morse complex of a fundamental domain. Morse cobordisms are used to compare various Morse-type complexes without the need of bifurcation theory.  相似文献

The notion of a random semi-metric space provides an alternate approach to the study of probabilistic metric spaces from the standpoint of random variables instead of distribution functions and permits a new investigation of the triangle inequality. Starting with a probability space (, , P) and an abstract setS, each pair of points,p, q, inS is assigned a random variableX pq with the interpretation thatX pq () is the distance betweenp andq at the instant . The probability of the eventJ pqr = { :X pr ()X pq ()+X qr ()} is studied under distribution function conditions imposed by Menger Spaces (K. Menger, Statistical Metrics, Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci., U.S.A., 28 (1942), 535–537; B. Schweizer and A. Sklar, Statistical Metric Spaces, Pacific J. Math.10 (1960), 313–334). It turns out that for > 0 there are 3 non-negative, identically-distributed random variablesX, Y andZ for whichP(X < Y + Z) < . This and other results show that distribution function triangle inequalities are very weak. Conditional probabilities are introduced to give necessary and sufficient conditions forP(J pqr ) = 1.  相似文献

We prove that an effective action of a torus T on a homotopy Pm is linear if m < 4 rk(T) – 1. Examples show that the bound is optimal. Combining this with a theorem of Hattori we conclude that the total Pontrjagin class of such a manifold is given by the usual formula (1 + x2)m + 1.The second named author is an Alfred P. Given p () , we determine when a product of quasi-p-pseudocompact spaces preserves this property. In particular, we analyze the product of quasi-p-pseudocompact subspaces of () containing . We give examples of spaces X, Y, X s , Ys which are quasi-p-pseudocompact for every p *, but X Y is not pseudocompact, and X s Y s is pseudocompact and it is not quasi-s-pseudocompact for each s *. Besides, we prove that every pseudocompact space X of with X, is quasi-p-pseudocompact for some p *. Finally, we introduce, for each p *, the class P p of all spaces X such that X × Y is quasi-p-pseudocompact when so is Y; and we prove: (1) the intersection of classes P p ( p *) coincides with the Frol"ik class; (2) every class P p is closed under arbitrary products; (3) the partial ordered set ( P p p ,) is isomorphic to the set of equivalence classes of free ultrafilters on with the Rudin–Keisler order. A topological characterization of RK-minimal ultrafilters is also given.  相似文献
