We first consider an ordered regular semigroup S in which every element has a biggest inverse and determine necessary and sufficient conditions for the subset S of biggest inverses to be an inverse transversal of S. Such an inverse transversal is necessarily weakly multiplicative. We then investigate principally ordered regular semigroups S with the property that S is an inverse transversal. In such a semigroup we determine precisely when the set S of biggest pre-inverses is a subsemigroup and show that in this case S is itself an inverse transversal of a subsemigroup of S. The ordered regular semigroup of 2 × 2 boolean matrices provides an informative illustrative example. The structure of S, when S is a group, is also described.  相似文献

In this article, we explore the multiplicative quasi-adequate transversals of an abundant semigroup. Let S be an abundant semigroup with multiplicative quasi-adequate transversals. Then the product of any two multiplicative quasi-adequate transversals is also a multiplicative quasi-adequate transversal. Moreover, all multiplicative quasi-adequate transversals of S form a rectangular band. Let S°and S ? be multiplicative quasi-adequate transversals of S, and let δ°(δ?) be the δ-relation on S°(S ?). Then there exists a bijection ? from S°/δ°onto S ??. In particular, if δ°and δ? are congruences, then the bijection ? is an isomorphism.  相似文献

Let S be the set of all palindromes over Σ*. It is well known, that the language S2 is an ultralinear, inherently ambiguous context-free language. In this paper we derive an explicit expression for the number of words of length n in S2. Furthermore, we show, that for card(Σ) > 1 the asymptotical density of the language S2 is zero and that, in the average, each word w of length n in S2 has exactly one factorization into two palindromes for large n; the variance is zero for large n. Finally, we compute an expression for the structure-generating- function T(S2;z) of the language S2; it remains the open problem, if T(S2;z) is a transcendental or an algebraic function.  相似文献

We consider an initial-boundary value problem of a flow of a viscous and heat-conducting gas in a bounded domain D ? R3. We assume that the boundary S of D consists of two disjoint surfaces S1 and S2 of class C2, and that the gas enters D through the surface S1 and leaves D through the surface S2. Our aim is to prove the existence (locally in time) of a solution of the problem in anisotropic Sobolev spaces.  相似文献

We shall study the biflatness of the convolution algebra  1(S) for a semigroup S. We show that for any semigroup S such that  1(S) is biflat the canonical partial ordering on the idempotents must be uniformly locally finite. We consider, in a right inverse semigroupS with a multiplicative inverse transversalS o, the notion of anS o-invariant subsemigroup and use this to describe all the left amenable orders definable onS. The results obtained, together with their duals, are used to prove that ifS is an orthodox semigroup with a multiplicative inverse transversalS o, then every amenable order onS o can be extended to a unique amenable order onS. Let S be a locally compact semigroup, let ω be a weight function on S, and let Ma (S, ω) be the weighted semigroup algebra of S. Let L0 (S;Ma (S, ω)) be the C*‐algebra of allMa (S, ω)‐measurable functions g on S such that g /ω vanishes at infinity. We introduce and study an Arens multiplication on L0 (S;Ma (S, ω))* under which Ma (S, ω) is a closed ideal. We show that the weighted measure algebra M (S, ω) plays an important role in the structure of L0 (S;Ma (S, ω))*. We then study Arens regularity of L0 (S;Ma (S, ω))* and ist relation with Arens regularity of Ma (S, ω), M (S, ω) and the discrete convolution algebra 1(S, ω). An ordered regular semigroup S is E-special if for every x ∈ S there is a biggest x + ∈ S such that both xx + and x + x are idempotent. Every regular strong Dubreil–Jacotin semigroup is E-special, as is every ordered completely simple semigroup with biggest inverses. In an E-special ordered regular semigroup S in which the unary operation x → x + is antitone the subset P of perfect elements is a regular ideal, the biggest inverses in which form an inverse transversal of P if and only if S has a biggest idempotent. If S + is a subsemigroup and S does not have a biggest idempotent, then P contains a copy of the crown bootlace semigroup.  相似文献

Let S be a non-commutative associative ring with an identity element and G be a finite group of ring automorhphisms of S. By exploiting Morita Theory, a bijection between subsets of SpecS and spec(SG ) is constructed. This Morita formulation is shown to be equivalent to a much more natural definition of the bijection, one in which the strong relationship between the rings S and SG is clearly manifest. Indeed, the bijection is shown to have implications for a number of ring-theoretic properties of rings S and SG . One such property being prime rank. A topological treatment of the bijection using quotient Zariski topologies yields a homeomorphism which exhibits the structural similarities between S and S G. The final section is devoted to a special case: charS - q, q prime, and G a q-group. In this case, it is shown that a prime ideal of the skew group ring S*G is uniquely determined by its intersection with R.  相似文献

We give bordism-finiteness results for smooth S 3-manifolds. Consider the class of oriented manifolds which admit an S 1-action with isolated fixed points such that the action extends to an S 3-action with fixed point. We exhibit various subclasses, characterized by an upper bound for the Euler characteristic and properties of the first Pontryagin class p 1, for example p 1 = 0, which contain only finitely many oriented bordism types in any given dimension. Also we show finiteness results for homotopy complex projective spaces and complete intersections with S 3-action as above.  相似文献

Let S be an abelian *–semigroup in ℚk. We give a sufficient condition for every positive definite function on S to have a unique representing measure on the dual semigroup of S (i.e. S is perfect). To characterize perfectness for any abelian *–semigroupis a challenging, but not yet generally solved problem. In this paper, we characterize the structure of involutions on an abelian *–semigroup which is a subset of ℚk, and show that any conelike *–semigroups in ℚk are perfect.  相似文献

We prove that the maps from S 2 intoS 1 having a finite number of isolated singularities ofdegree ±1 are dense for the strong topology inH 1/2(S 2, S 1). In this paper, we prove the main result: Let both (K, S) and (K *,S *) be preordered fields, and let (K *,S *) be a finitely generated extension of (K, S). IfK * is transcendental overK, then (K *,S *) has the weak Hilbert property. This result answers negatively an open problem posed by the author in reference [1]. We show that if a closed manifold M admits an ℱ-structure (not necessarily polarized, possibly of rank zero) then its minimal entropy vanishes. In particular, this is the case if M admits a non-trivial S 1-action. As a corollary we obtain that the simplicial volume of a manifold admitting an ℱ-structure is zero.?We also show that if M admits an ℱ-structure then it collapses with curvature bounded from below. This in turn implies that M collapses with bounded scalar curvature or, equivalently, its Yamabe invariant is non-negative.?We show that ℱ-structures of rank zero appear rather frequently: every compact complex elliptic surface admits one as well as any simply connected closed 5-manifold.?We use these results to study the minimal entropy problem. We show the following two theorems: suppose that M is a closed manifold obtained by taking connected sums of copies of S 4, ℂP 2, 2,S 2×S 2and the K3 surface. Then M has zero minimal entropy. Moreover, M admits a smooth Riemannian metric with zero topological entropy if and only if M is diffeomorphic to S 4,ℂP 2,S 2×S 2,ℂP 2#  2 or ℂP 2# ℂP 2. Finally, suppose that M is a closed simply connected 5-manifold. Then M has zero minimal entropy. Moreover, M admits a smooth Riemannian metric with zero topological entropy if and only if M is diffeomorphic to S 5,S 3×S 2, then on trivial S 3-bundle over S 2 or the Wu-manifold SU(3)/SO(3).  Let G be a 3-connected graph of order n and S a subset of vertices. Denote by δ(S) the minimum degree (in G) of vertices of S. Then we prove that the circumference of G is at least min{|S|, 2δ(S)} if the degree sum of any four independent vertices of S is at least n+6. A cycle C is called S-maximum if there is no cycle C with |C S|>|CS|. We also show that if ∑4 i=1 d(a i)≥n+3+|⋂4 i=1 N(a i)| for any four independent vertices a 1, a 2, a 3, a 4 in S, then G has an S-weak-dominating S-maximum cycle C, i.e. an S-maximum cycle such that every component in GC contains at most one vertex in S. Abstract We identify ℝ7 as the pure imaginary part of octonions. Then the multiplication in octonions gives a natural almost complex structure for the unit sphere S6. It is known that a cone over a surface M in S6 is an associative submanifold of ℝ7 if and only if M is almost complex in S6. In this paper, we show that the Gauss-Codazzi equation for almost complex curves in S6 are the equation for primitive maps associated to the 6-symmetric space G2=T2, and use this to explain some of the known results. Moreover, the equation for S1-symmetric almost complex curves in S6 is the periodic Toda lattice, and a discussion of periodic solutions is given. We consider a two-level vendor-managed system in which external demand occurs only at a retailer and a supplier replenishes the retailer employing an order-up-to S policy over T periods.
