We present a quantum theory for the interaction of a quantum target with a time dependent matter beam. When several pulses in the incident beam arrive with a period tau, transitions between levels with an energy difference h/tau can be enhanced. Unlike all previous studies, we find that transitions in passive targets can distinguish between an incoherent beam and a beam with a coherent wave packet structure. As an example, we calculate the transition probability of Rb Rydberg atoms interacting with a pulsed electron beam.  相似文献

By immersing a compliant yet self-supporting sheet into flowing water, we study a heavy, streamlined, and elastic body interacting with a fluid. We find that above a critical flow velocity a sheet aligned with the flow begins to flap with a Strouhal frequency consistent with animal locomotion. This transition is subcritical. Our results agree qualitatively with a simple fluid dynamical model that predicts linear instability at a critical flow speed. Both experiment and theory emphasize the importance of body inertia in overcoming the stabilizing effects of finite rigidity and fluid drag.  相似文献

In a space-time with torsion, the action for the gravitational field can be extended with a parity-violating piece. We show how to obtain such a piece from geometry itself, by suitably modifying the affine connection so as to include a pseudo-tensorial part. The merit of such an approach is that it provides one with a consistent method for incorporating parity-violation in the Lagrangians for matter fields with arbitrary spin in a space-time background with torsion.  相似文献

Quantum technology establishes a foundation for secure communication via quantum key distribution(QKD). In the last two decades, the rapid development of QKD makes a global quantum communication network feasible. In order to construct this network, it is economical to consider small-sized and low-cost QKD payloads, which can be assembled on satellites with different sizes, such as space stations. Here we report an experimental demonstration of space-to-ground QKD using a small-sized payload, from Tiangong-2 space lab to Nanshan ground station. The 57.9-kg payload integrates a tracking system, a QKD transmitter along with modules for synchronization, and a laser communication transmitter. In the space lab,a 50 MHz vacuum+weak decoy-state optical source is sent through a reflective telescope with an aperture of 200 mm. On the ground station, a telescope with an aperture of 1200 mm collects the signal photons. A stable and high-transmittance communication channel is set up with a high-precision bidirectional tracking system, a polarization compensation module, and a synchronization system.When the quantum link is successfully established,we obtain a key rate over 100 bps with a communication distance up to 719 km. Together with our recent development of QKD in daylight,the present demonstration paves the way towards a practical satellite-constellation-based global quantum secure network with small-sized QKD payloads.  相似文献

The new theory of crystal kinetics, developed in two earlier papers (Physica 111A (1982) 591 and Physica 113A (1982) 117), here is applied to an alloy model with inhomogeneities. The latter are restricted to one crystal direction. Macroscopic rate equations are derived for the concentrations and for the nearest neigbour correlations. In a linearized form these are solved, with results that (for a positive interaction) closely agree with Cahn's macroscopic theory of spinodal decomposition. In systems with a negative interaction a long range order with a domain structure will develop below the transition temperature. In the limit of long.waves Fick's second law is recovered, with a diffusion coefficient depending on composition and temperature, but with a value for the associated nearest neighbour correlation that does not correspond to local equilibrium. For a few cases the full, non-linear, rate equations are integrated numerically. After an initially exponential growth, in agreement with the small amplitude analysis, the solutions show a rather sudden transition to a much slower coarsening process. The latter is markedly more sluggish for the ordering alloys than for the decomposing ones.  相似文献

We report the first measurements of the intrinsic strain fluctuations of living cells using a recently developed tracer correlation technique along with a theoretical framework for interpreting such data in heterogeneous media with nonthermal driving. The fluctuations' spatial and temporal correlations indicate that the cytoskeleton can be treated as a course-grained continuum with power-law rheology, driven by a spatially random stress tensor field. Combined with recent cell rheology results, our data imply that intracellular stress fluctuations have a nearly 1/omega2 power spectrum, as expected for a continuum with a slowly evolving internal prestress.  相似文献

Rolling of a small sphere on a patterned support of an elastomer is governed by a non-linear friction. No motion occurs when the external field is weaker than the frictional resistance. However, with the intervention of an external noise, a viscous friction like behavior emerges; thus the sphere rolls with a uniform drift velocity that is proportional to the applied field. At a very low noise strength, the sphere exhibits a stick-slip behavior with motion occurring always along the bias. With the increase in the noise strength, the sphere exhibits a diffusive drift accompanied with forward and backward displacements. During this stage of driven diffusive motion, the ratio of the integrated probabilities of the negative-to-positive work fluctuations decreases monotonically with the time of observation, from which a temperature like intensive parameter can be estimated. This parameter conforms to Einstein??s ratio of diffusivity and mobility that increases almost linearly, even though the diffusivity increases super-linearly, with the strength of the noise. A new barrier crossing experiment is introduced that can be performed either with a hard (e.g. a steel ball) or with a soft (e.g. a water drop) sphere in contact with a periodically undulated substrate. The frequency of barrier crossing follows a transition state equation allowing a direct estimation of the effective temperature. These experiments as well as certain numerical simulations suggest that the effective temperature of a system controlled by a non-linear friction may not have a unique value.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop and analyze a simple algorithm for scheduling variable length messages in WDM networks with a passive star coupler. We base our schemes on a star topology with centralized control and use a scheduling algorithm similar to the process management in UNIX system. Every node and message have a scheduling priority associated with them. By comparing our algorithm with random select algorithm, we find that significant improvement in performance can be achieved with very little extra cost.  相似文献

We define Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structures with background on Lie algebroids and we prove that any generalized complex structure on a Courant algebroid which is the double of a Lie algebroid has an associated Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structure with background. We prove that any Lie algebroid with a Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structure with background constitutes, with its dual, a quasi-Lie bialgebroid. We also prove that any pair (π,ω) of a Poisson bivector and a 2-form induces a Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structure with background and we observe that particular cases correspond to already known compatibilities between π and ω. We report on new InGaP/AlGaAs/GaAs composite emitter heterojunction bipolar and phototransistors (CEHBTs/CEHPTs) with a low turn-on voltage. The composite emitter comprised of the digital graded superlattice emitter and the InGaP sub-emitter is used to smooth out potential spike associated with the emitter–base heterojunction and to obtain a low emitter–base turn-on voltage. A fabricated CEHBT exhibits a small offset voltage of 55 mV and a low turn-on voltage of 0.83 V with a dc current gain as high as 150. In case of a CEHPT’s collector–emitter characteristics with base floating, optical gains increase with increasing input optical power. Furthermore, the collector current saturation voltage is small due to a low turn-on voltage. We obtain an optical gain larger than 6.83 with a collector current saturation voltage smaller than 0.5 V. On the other hand, performance results of a CEHPT with two- and three-terminal configuration were investigated and compared.  相似文献

We have considered evanescent plane waves in structures with a layer of a substance with ε, μ < 0 and with a layer of a well-reflecting metal, ε < 0, μ ≥ 1. Waves with increased amplitude as compared with the initial wave have been found to occur, due to which evanescent waves with wave number as in the initial wave but with increased amplitude arise behind these layers. A composite material with ε, μ < 0 at optical frequencies are proposed. Surface waves on a metal layer are considered in detail. It is shown that surface waves with a sufficiently arbitrary wave number can be excited. It is also shown that, on very thin layers, surface waves with wave number exceeding ten times that of a homogeneous plane wave in vacuum can be excited. Propagation losses are calculated. For a silver layer, the wave path can be from 30 up to 100 wavelengths. Practical use in developing techniques for optical transformations of short-wave surface waves in 2D space, similar to those in 3D space, are pointed out.  相似文献

A dynamical model for the collapse of the wave function in a quantum measurement process is proposed by considering the interaction of a quantum system (spin -1/2) with a macroscopic quantum apparatus interacting with an environment in a dissipative manner. The dissipative interaction leads to decoherence in the superposition states of the apparatus, making its behaviour classical in the sense that the density matrix becomes diagonal with time. Since the apparatus is also interacting with the system, the probabilities of the diagonal density matrix are determined by the state vector of the system. We consider a Stern-Gerlach type model, where a spin-1/2 particle is in an inhomogeneous magnetic field, the whole set up being in contact with a large environment. Here we find that the density matrix of the combined system and apparatus becomes diagonal and the momentum of the particle becomes correlated with a spin operator, selected by the choice of the system-apparatus interaction. This allows for a measurement of spin via a momentum measurement on the particle with associated probabilities in accordance with quantum principles.  相似文献

We have investigated balanced heterodyne detection in applications where laser intensity fluctuations are the dominant noise source, as, for example, in laser Doppler velocimetry with a He-Ne laser. The suppression of excess noise in comparison with a single receiver detection system is analysed theoretically. In our heterodyne experiment we have compared two different fibre-optic Mach-Zehnder interferometers, both with single-mode polarization-preserving fibres, one in integrated form using a directional coupler, the other one with a dielectric beam-splitter as the optical mixing element. With the former we have verified the theoretical results; with the latter we have demonstrated that with a good balance the fundamental short noise detection limit can be reached.  相似文献

We consider a generalization of the Kuramoto model in which the oscillators are coupled to the mean field with random signs. Oscillators with positive coupling are "conformists"; they are attracted to the mean field and tend to synchronize with it. Oscillators with negative coupling are "contrarians"; they are repelled by the mean field and prefer a phase diametrically opposed to it. The model is simple and exactly solvable, yet some of its behavior is surprising. Along with the stationary states one might have expected (a desynchronized state, and a partially-synchronized state, with conformists and contrarians locked in antiphase), it also displays a traveling wave, in which the mean field oscillates at a frequency different from the population's mean natural frequency.  相似文献

The nucleate pool boiling heat transfer data on a smooth flat surface were measured for three binary mixtures of HC600a/HFC134a, HC600a/HC290, and HC600a/HFC23. Much effort was made to investigate the influence of the boiling range on the pool-boiling heat transfer performance. From the experimental results, the HC600a/HFC23 mixture with a wide boiling range showed lower heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) than the mixture with a narrow boiling range such as HC600a/HFC134a and HC600a/HC290 systems. The measured data were also compared with the results predicted by five well-known correlations. It can be found that the average deviation is less than 25% for mixtures with narrow boiling ranges, but a larger deviation for mixtures with wide boiling ranges.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the polynomial integrability of natural Hamiltonian systems with two degrees of freedom having a homogeneous potential of degree k given either by a polynomial, or by an inverse of a polynomial. For k=−2,−1,…,3,4, their polynomial integrability has been characterized. Here, we have two main results. First, we characterize the polynomial integrability of those Hamiltonian systems with homogeneous potential of degree −3. Second, we extend a relation between the nontrivial eigenvalues of the Hessian of the potential calculated at a Darboux point to a family of Hamiltonian systems with potentials given by an inverse of a homogeneous polynomial. This relation was known for such Hamiltonian systems with homogeneous polynomial potentials. Finally, we present three open problems related with the polynomial integrability of Hamiltonian systems with a rational potential.  相似文献

We compare an ultrasound bur with a conventional one and an Er:YAG laser for cavity preparations. Human molars were embedded in resin and sliced for this study. The surface abrasion was performed by a high-speed instrument and ultrasound. The cavity preparation was initially performed with a high-speed diamond bur. After this, a 2.94-μm laser with 400 mJ/pulse at 4 Hz, and a pulse width from 250–500 μs was applied to the tooth surface for 30 s in a sweeping motion. The samples were analyzed by SEM. The abrasion surface with a conventional bur showed structure removal with different grooves, a smear-layer presence, and occluded dentinal tubules. The abraded surface with the CVD bur suggested a removal process in layers. The laser-irradiated surface showed a rough aspect with opened tubules and the absence of a smear layer. The results of this study suggest that a high-speed diamond bur, ultrasound, and laser were able to perform cavity preparation. However, the CVD bur presented a higher surface quality.  相似文献

We report a quantum dot microcavity laser with a cw sub-microW lasing threshold, where a significant reduction of the lasing threshold is observed when a single quantum dot (QD) state is aligned with a cavity mode. The quality factor exceeds 15,000 before the system lases. When no QD states are resonant, below threshold the cavity mode initially degrades with increasing pump power, after which saturation occurs and then the cavity mode recovers. We associate the initial cavity mode spoiling with QD state broadening that occurs with increasing pump power.  相似文献

This Letter reports a convenient method of fabricating a polymer-based microlaser array. Laterally aligned plastic micropillars equipped with an optical resonator were fabricated by using a lithographic technique with an organic-dye-doped photopolymer, which operated as a laser element with a vertical cavity. Under optical pumping, very fine emission spectra showing a Fabry-Perot-type lasing oscillation were observed. Using this technique, integrated laser cavities with desired operation wavebands can be produced easily.  相似文献
