The electron mass operator in a strong magnetic field is calculated. The contribution of higher Landau levels of virtual electrons, along with the ground Landau level, is shown to be essential in the leading log approximation. The effect of the electron dynamical mass generation by a magnetic field is investigated. In a model with N charged fermions, it is shown that some critical number N(cr) exists for any value of the electromagnetic coupling constant alpha, such that the fermion dynamical mass is generated with a doublet splitting for NN(cr), thus leaving the chiral symmetry unbroken.  相似文献

The ground state of a two-dimensional antiferromagnet with S=1/2 interacting with acoustic phonons in a magnetic field was studied by the quantum Monte Carlo method in the nonadiabatic approximation. Oscillations of the amplitude of the root-mean-square displacement of ions and the average phonon occupation number in a magnetic field were found. Local maxima were revealed in the distribution functions of site magnetic moments and ion displacements. The saturation magnetization was calculated as a function of the spin-phonon coupling constant.  相似文献

A new type of angular oscillations of the high-frequency conductivity for conductors with a band-contact line has been predicted. The effect is caused by groups of charge carriers near the self-intersection points of the Fermi surface, where the electron energy spectrum is near-linear and can be described by anisotropic Dirac cone model. The amplitude of the resonance peaks satisfies the simple sum rule. The ease in changing the degree of anisotropy of the Dirac cone due to the angle of inclination of the magnetic field makes the considered type of oscillations attractive for experimental observation of relativistic effects.  相似文献

In the lowest order in the fine-structure constant, the electron self-energy in an external magnetic field can be written in the form of a double integral representation containing the exact information about the radiative shift and width of the energy levels, without approximation in the field strength. In the low-field expansion of the radiative shift, the leading term is conveniently interpreted in terms of the electron's anomalous magnetic moment, whilst in very strong fields the enhancement of the cyclotron motion makes the shift a positive, slowly increasing function of the field intensity. It follows that, even in superstrong magnetic fields, the electromagnetic interaction cannot give rise to an instability of the electron-positron vacuum.  相似文献

The correlated dynamics of a three-level atom resonantly coupled to an electromagnetic cavity field is calculated (Λ, V, and L models). A diagrammatic representation of quantum dynamics is proposed for these models. As an example, Λ-atom dynamics is examined to demonstrate how the use of conventional von Neumann’s reduction leads to internal decoherence (disentanglement-induced decoherence) and to the absence of atomic coherence under multiphoton excitation. The predicted absence of atomic coherence is inconsistent with characteristics of an experimentally observed atom-photon entangled state. It is shown that the correlated reduction of a composite quantum system proposed in [18] qualitatively predicts the occurrence and evolution of atomic coherence under multiphoton excitation if a seed coherence is introduced into any subsystem (the atom or a cavity mode).  相似文献

Multiexcitons confined in InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) with a lateral size slightly exceeding the exciton Bohr radius are investigated by magnetophotoluminescence spectroscopy at 2 K. The Coulomb correlations in the two-exciton complex result in an additional confinement, which increases with decreasing dot size, while a magnetic field reduces this effect. A three-exciton complex is confined only by the geometric confinement potential of the QD. The exciton-exciton repulsion increases with decreasing dot size, while a magnetic field decreases the repulsion strongly when the magnetic length becomes smaller than the lateral size of the QD. The gauge independence of the dynamical fermion mass generated through chiral symmetry breaking in QED in a strong, constant external magnetic field is critically examined. We present a (first, to the best of our knowledge) consistent truncation of the Schwinger-Dyson equations in the lowest Landau level approximation. We demonstrate that the dynamical fermion mass, obtained as the solution of the truncated Schwinger-Dyson equations evaluated on the fermion mass shell, is manifestly gauge independent.  相似文献

The paper presents the esults of measuring the elastic parameters of an oscillatory system (coefficient of pondermotive elasticity, damping factor, and oscillation frequency) whose viscous inertial element is represented by a magnetic fluid confined in a tube by magnetic levitation in a strong magnetic field. The role of elasticity is played by the pondermotive force acting on thin layers at the upper and lower ends of the fluid column. It is shown that, by measuring the elastic oscillation frequencies of the magnetic fluid column, it is possible to develop a fundamentally new absolute method for determining the saturation magnetization of a magnetic colloid.  相似文献

Using an echo technique proposed by Morigi et al., we have time-reversed the atom-field interaction in a cavity quantum electrodynamics experiment. The collapse of the atomic Rabi oscillation in a coherent field is reversed, resulting in an induced revival signal. The amplitude of this "echo" is sensitive to nonunitary decoherence processes. Its observation demonstrates the existence of a mesoscopic quantum superposition of field states in the cavity between the collapse and the revival times.  相似文献

The solution is given of the initial-value problem for the nonrelativistic linearised Vlasov-Maxwell equations describing longitudinal and transverse plasma oscillations in an external uniform magnetic field. The problem is solved for all directions of propagation except normal to the external magnetic field, and the equilibrium distribution is not assumed isotropic. The method of solution is an extension of Van Kampen's eigenfunction expansion technique, already developed considerably by Zelazny and McCure, in which the problem is reduced to the solution of a system of singular integral equations.  相似文献
