The high temperature p-type thermoelectric material Yb(14)MnSb(11) has been of increasing research interest since its high temperature thermoelectric properties were first measured in 2006. Subsequent substitutions of Zn, Al, and La into the structure have shown that this material can be further optimized by altering the carrier concentration or by reduction of spin-disorder scattering. Here the properties of the Yb(14-x)Ca(x)MnSb(11) solid solution series where isovalent Ca(2+) is substituted for Yb(2+) will be presented. Crystals of the Yb(14-x)Ca(x)MnSb(11) solid solution series were made by Sn-flux (x = 2, 4, 6, 8) with the following ratio of elements: (14-x)Yb: xCa: 6 Mn: 11Sb: 86Sn, and their structures determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The density of the material significantly decreases by over 2 g/cm(3) as more Ca is added (from x = 1 to 8), because of the lighter mass of Ca. The resulting lower density is beneficial from a device manufacturing perspective where there is often a trade-off with the specific power per kilogram. The compounds crystallize in the Ca(14)AlSb(11) structure type. The Ca substitution contributes to systematic lengthening the Mn-Sb bond while shortening the Sb-Sb bond in the 3 atom linear unit with increasing amounts of Ca. Temperature dependent thermoelectric properties, Seebeck, electrical resistivity, and thermal conductivity were measured from room temperature to 1273 K. Substitution of Yb with Ca improves the Seebeck coefficient while decreasing the thermal conductivity, along with decreasing the carrier concentration in this p-type material resulting in an enhanced thermoelectric figure of merit, zT, compared to Yb(14)MnSb(11).  相似文献

LiNbO(3) (LN), corundum (cor), and hexagonal (hex) phases of (In(1-x)M(x))MO(3) (x = 0.143; M = Fe(0.5)Mn(0.5)) were prepared. Their crystal structures were investigated with synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction, and their properties were studied by differential thermal analysis, magnetic measurements, and M?ssbauer spectroscopy. The LN-phase was prepared at high pressure of 6 GPa and 1770 K; it crystallizes in space group R3c with a = 5.25054(7) ?, c = 13.96084(17) ?, and has a long-range antiferromagnetic ordering near T(N) = 270 K. The cor- and hex-phases were obtained at ambient pressure by heating the LN-phase in air up to 870 and 1220 K, respectively. The cor-phase crystallizes in space group R-3c with a = 5.25047(10) ?, c = 14.0750(2) ?, and the hex-phase in space group P6(3)/mmc with a = 3.34340(18) ?, c = 11.8734(5) ?. T(N) of the cor-phase is about 200 K, and T(N) of the hex-phase is about 140 K. During irreversible transformations of LN-(In(1-x)M(x))MO(3) with the (partial) cation ordering, the In(3+), Mn(3+), and Fe(3+) cations become completely disordered in one crystallographic site of the corundum structure, and then they are (partially) ordered again in the hex-phase. LN-(In(1-x)M(x))MO(3) exhibits a reversible transformation to a perovskite GdFeO(3)-type structure (space group Pnma; a = 5.2946(3) ?, b = 7.5339(4) ?, c = 5.0739(2) ? at 10.3 GPa) at room temperature and pressure of about 5 GPa.  相似文献

A series of layered oxides of nominal composition SrFe(1-x)Mn(x)O(2) (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) have been prepared by the reduction of three-dimensional perovskites SrFe(1-x)Mn(x)O(3-δ) with CaH(2) under mild temperature conditions of 583 K for 2 days. The samples with x = 0, 0.1, and 0.2 exhibit an infinite-layer crystal structure where all of the apical O atoms have been selectively removed upon reduction. A selected sample (x = 0.2) has been studied by neutron powder diffraction (NPD) and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. Both techniques indicate that Fe and Mn adopt a divalent oxidation state, although Fe(2+) ions are under tensile stress whereas Mn(2+) ions undergo compressive stress in the structure. The unit-cell parameters progressively evolve from a = 3.9932(4) ? and c = 3.4790(4) ? for x = 0 to a = 4.00861(15) ? and c = 3.46769(16) ? for x = 0.2; the cell volume presents an expansion across the series from V = 55.47(1) to 55.722(4) ?(3) for x = 0 and 0.2, respectively, because of the larger effective ionic radius of Mn(2+) versus Fe(2+) in four-fold coordination. Attempts to prepare Mn-rich compositions beyond x = 0.2 were unsuccessful. For SrFe(0.8)Mn(0.2)O(2), the magnetic properties indicate a strong magnetic coupling between Fe(2+) and Mn(2+) magnetic moments, with an antiferromagnetic temperature T(N) above room temperature, between 453 and 523 K, according to temperature-dependent NPD data. The NPD data include Bragg reflections of magnetic origin, accounted for with a propagation vector k = ((1)/(2), (1)/(2), (1)/(2)). A G-type antiferromagnetic structure was modeled with magnetic moments at the Fe/Mn position. The refined ordered magnetic moment at this position is 1.71(3) μ(B)/f.u. at 295 K. This is an extraordinary example where Mn(2+) and Fe(2+) ions are stabilized in a square-planar oxygen coordination within an infinite-layer structure. The layered SrFe(1-x)Mn(x)O(2) oxides are kinetically stable at room temperature, but in air at ~170 °C, they reoxidize and form the perovskites SrFe(1-x)Mn(x)O(3-δ). A cubic phase is obtained upon reoxidation of the layered compound, whereas the starting precursor SrFeO(2.875) (Sr(8)Fe(8)O(23)) was a tetragonal superstructure of perovskite.  相似文献

A new intermetallic compound,YbCu6In6,has been synthesized by solid-state reaction of the corresponding pure elements in a welded tantalum tube at high temperature.Its crystal structure was established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.YbCu6In6 crystallizes in tetragonal space group I4/mmm with a = 9.2283(5),c = 5.4015(4),V = 460.00(5) 3,Z = 2,Mr = 1243.20,Dc = 8.976 g/cm3,μ = 38.243 mm-1,F(000) = 1076,and the final R = 0.0258 and wR = 0.0602 for 173 observed reflections with I > 2σ(I).The structure of YbCu6In6 belongs to the ThMn12 type.It is isostructural with RECu6In6(RE = Y,Ce,Pr,Nd,Gd,Tb,Dy),containing one-dimensional(1D) [Cu10In6] cluster chain along the c axis,which is interconnected via sharing the Cu(1) atoms to form a three-dimensional(3D) [Cu6In6] framework with Yb atoms encapsulated in the 1D tunnels along the c axis.Band structure calculations based on Density Functional Theory(DFT) method indicate that YbCu6In6 is metallic.  相似文献

A family of novel 2D-layered lanthanide germanates K(3)[Tb(x)Eu(1-x)Ge(3)O(8)(OH)(2)] (x = 1, 0.88, 0.67, 0; denoted as TbGeO-JU-87, Tb(0.88)Eu(0.12)GeO-JU-87, Tb(0.67)Eu(0.33)GeO-JU-87, and EuGeO-JU-87) were synthesized under mild hydrothermal conditions in a concentrated gel system. They are isostructural, as confirmed by the powder X-ray diffraction analysis. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of EuGeO-JU-87 reveals that it is a 2D-layered [EuGe(3)O(8)(OH)(2)](n)(3n-) anionic framework, which is built up from GeO(4)H/GeO(4) tetrahedra and EuO(6) octahedra by sharing vertex O atoms. Charge neutrality is achieved by K(+) ions located in the free void space. Interestingly, photoluminescence studies show that Tb(0.88)Eu(0.12)GeO-JU-87 and Tb(0.67)Eu(0.33)GeO-JU-87 exhibit a high Tb(3+)-to-Eu(3+) energy-transfer efficiency and the Tb(x)Eu(1-x)GeO-JU-87 system displays tunable photoluminescent properties.  相似文献

Several compositions of manganese-tin-bismuth selenide solid-solution series, Mn(1-x)Sn(x)Bi(2)Se(4) (x = 0, 0.3, 0.75), were synthesized by combining high purity elements in the desired ratio at moderate temperatures. X-ray single crystal studies of a Mn-rich composition (x = 0) and a Mn-poor phase (x = 0.75) at 100 and 300 K revealed that the compounds crystallize isostructurally in the monoclinic space group C2/m (no.12) and adopt the MnSb(2)Se(4) structure type. Direct current (DC) magnetic susceptibility measurements in the temperature range from 2 to 300 K indicated that the dominant magnetic ordering within the Mn(1-x)Sn(x)Bi(2)Se(4) solid-solutions below 50 K switches from antiferromagnetic (AFM) for MnBi(2)Se(4) (x = 0), to ferromagnetic (FM) for Mn(0.7)Sn(0.3)Bi(2)Se(4) (x = 0.3), and finally to paramagnetic (PM) for Mn(0.25)Sn(0.75)Bi(2)Se(4) (x = 0.75). We show that this striking variation in the nature of magnetic ordering within the Mn(1-x)Sn(x)Bi(2)Se(4) solid-solution series can be rationalized by taking into account: (1) changes in the distribution of magnetic centers within the structure arising from the Mn to Sn substitutions, (2) the contributions of spin-polarized free charge carriers resulting from the intermixing of Mn and Sn within the same crystallographic site, and (3) a possible long-range ordering of Mn and Sn atoms within individual {M}(n)Se(4n+2) single chain leading to quasi isolated {MnSe(6)} octahedra spaced by nonmagnetic {SnSe(6)} octahedra.  相似文献

Samples with the type I clathrate structure and composition Ba(8)Al(x)Si(46-x), where x = 8, 10, 12, 14, and 15, were examined by neutron powder diffraction at 35 K. The clathrate type I structure contains Ba cations as guests in a framework derived from tetrahedrally coordinated Al/Si atoms. The framework is made up of five- and six-membered rings that form dodecahedral and tetrakaidecahedral cages. The change in distances between tetrahedral sites across the series is used to develop a model for the mixed Al/Si occupancy observed in the framework. The calculated volumes of the cages that contain the Ba atoms display a linear increase with increasing Al composition. In the smaller dodecahedral cages, the Ba atomic displacement parameter is symmetry constrained to be isotropic for all compositions. In the larger tetrakaidecahedral cages, the anisotropic atomic displacement of the Ba atom depends upon the composition: the displacement is perpendicular (x = 8) and parallel (x = 15) to the six-membered ring. This difference in direction of the displacement parameter is attributed to interaction with the Al in the framework and not to the size of the cage volume as x increases from 8 to 15. The influence of the site occupation of Al in the framework on displacement of the cation at the 6d site is demonstrated.  相似文献

The systems AeAl(2-x)Mgx (Ae = Ca, Sr, Ba) display electron concentration induced Laves phase structural changes. However, the complete sequence MgCu2 --> MgNi2 --> MgZn2 with increasing x (decreasing electron count) is only observed for Ae = Ca. Compounds SrAl(2-x)Mgx (0 < x < or = 2) and BaAl(2-x)Mgx (x = 0.85 and 2.0) were synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction experiments. For the Sr system the structural sequence CeCu2 --> MgNi2 --> MgZn2 occurs with increasing Mg content x. Thus, larger Sr does not allow the realization of the MgCu2 structure at low x. For Ae = Ba a binary compound BaAl2 does not exist, but more Ba-rich Ba7Al13 forms. The reinvestigation of the crystal structure of Ba7Al13 by selected area and convergent beam electron diffraction in a transmission electron microscope revealed a superstructure, which subsequently could be refined from single X-ray diffraction data. The formula unit of the superstructure is Ba21Al40 (space group P31m, Z = 1, a = 10.568(1) angstroms, c = 17.205(6) angstroms). In Ba21Al40 a size match problem between Ba and Al present in Ba7Al13 is resolved. The structure of Ba7Al13 (Ba21Al40) can be considered as a Ba excess variant of the hexagonal MgNi2 Laves phase type structure. An incommensurately modulated variant of the MgNi2 structure is obtained for phases BaAl(2-x)Mgx with x = 0.8-1. At even higher Mg concentrations a structural change to the proper MgZn2 type structure takes place.  相似文献

Two new quaternary aluminum silicides, RE8Ru12Al49Si9(Al(x)Si12-x) (x approximately 4; RE = Pr, Sm), have been synthesized from Sm (or Sm2O3), Pr, Ru, and Si in molten aluminum between 800 and 1000 degrees C in sealed fused silica tubes. Both compounds form black shiny crystals that are stable in air and NaOH. The Nd analog is also stable. The compounds crystallize in a new structural type. The structure, determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, is cubic, space group Pm3m with Z = 1, and has lattice parameters of a = 11.510(1) A for Sm8Ru12Al49Si9(Al(x)Si12-x) and a = 11.553(2) A for Pr8Ru12Al49Si9(Al(x)Si12-x) (x approximately 4). The structure consists of octahedral units of AlSi6, at the cell center, Si2Ru4Al8 clusters, at each face center, SiAl8 cubes, at the middle of the cell edges, and unique (Al,Si)12 cuboctohedral clusters, at the cell corners. These different structural units are connected to each other either by shared atoms, Al-Al bonds, or Al-Ru bonds. The rare earth metal atoms fill the space between various structural units. The Al/Si distribution was verified by single-crystal neutron diffraction studies conducted on Pr8Ru12Al49Si9(Al(x)Si12-x). Sm8Ru12Al49Si9(Al(x)Si12-x) and Pr8Ru12Al49Si9(Al(x)Si12-x) show ferromagnetic ordering at Tc approximately 10 and approximately 20 K, respectively. A charge of 3+ can be assigned to the rare earth atoms while the Ru atoms are diamagnetic.  相似文献

Ten compounds belonging to the series of oxygen-deficient perovskite oxides Ca(2)Fe(2-x)Mn(x)O(5) and CaSrFe(2-x)Mn(x)O(5+y), where x = 1/2, 2/3, and 1 and y ≈ 0-0.5, were synthesized and investigated with respect to the ordering of oxygen vacancies on both local and long-range length scales and the effect on crystal structure and magnetic properties. For the set with y ≈ 0 the oxygen vacancies always order in the long-range sense to form the brownmillerite structure containing alternating layers of octahedrally and tetrahedrally coordinated cations. However, there is a change in symmetry from Pnma to Icmm upon substitution of Sr for one Ca for all x, indicating local T(d) chain (vacancy) disorder. In the special case of CaSrFeMnO(5) the neutron diffraction peaks broaden, indicating only short-range structural order on a length scale of ~160 ?. This reveals a systematic progression from Ca(2)FeMnO(5) (Pnma, well-ordered tetrahedral chains) to CaSrFeMnO(5) (Icmm, disordered tetrahedral chains, overall short-range order) to Sr(2)FeMnO(5) (Pm3m, destruction of tetrahedral chains in a long-range sense). Systematic changes occur in the magnetic properties as well. While long-range antiferromagnetic order is preserved, the magnetic transition temperature, T(c), decreases for the same x when Sr substitutes for one Ca. A review of the changes in T(c) for the series Ca(2)Fe(2-x)M(x)O(5), taking into account the tetrahedral/octahedral site preferences for the various M(3+) ions, leads to a partial understanding of the origin of magnetic order in these materials in terms of a layered antiferromagnetic model. While in all cases the preferred magnetic moment direction is (010) at low temperatures, there is a cross over for x = 0.5 to (100) with increasing temperature for both the Ca(2)Fe(2-x)Mn(x)O(5) and the CaSrFe(2-x)Mn(x)O(5) series. For the y > 0 phases, while a brownmillerite ordering of oxygen vacancies is preserved for the Ca(2) phases, a disordered Pm3m cubic perovskite structure is always found when Sr is substituted for one Ca. Long-range magnetic order is also lost, giving way to spin glass or cluster-glass-like behavior below ~50 K. For the x = 0.5 phase, neutron pair distribution function (NPDF) studies show a local structure related to brownmillerite ordering of oxygen vacancies. Neutron diffraction data at 3.8 K show a broad magnetic feature, incommensurate with any multiple of the chemical lattice, and with a correlation length (magnetic domain) of 6.7(4) ?.  相似文献

Thermal properties of pure KY(WO4)2 and K(Y1-xYbx)(WO4)2(x=0.098,0.196,0.294) crystals were investigated. The specific heat and thermal diffusivity of crystals were calculated at a range of 50~300 ℃.The calculated result shows that the specific heat and thermal diffusivity of K(Y1-xYbx)(WO4)2(x=0.098,0.196,0.294) crystals were slightly affected by the Yb3+ concentration. The thermal expansion coefficient of K(Y0.804Yb0.196)(WO4)2 crystals along x,y and z axes were determined to be 13.51,4.474 and 16.60×10-6 K-1,respectively.These results suggest the K(Y1-xYbx)(WO4)2(x=0.098,0.196,0.294) crystal as a laser crystal of low-middle power.  相似文献

Different Li(4)SiO(4) solid solutions containing aluminum (Li(4+x)(Si(1-x)Al(x))O(4)) or vanadium (Li(4-x)(Si(1-x)V(x))O(4)) were prepared by solid state reactions. Samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction and solid state nuclear magnetic resonance. Then, samples were tested as CO(2) captors. Characterization results show that both, aluminum and vanadium ions, occupy silicon sites into the Li(4)SiO(4) lattice. Thus, the dissolution of aluminum is compensated by Li(1+) interstitials, while the dissolution of vanadium leads to lithium vacancies formation. Finally, the CO(2) capture evaluation shows that the aluminum presence into the Li(4)SiO(4) structure highly improves the CO(2) chemisorption, and on the contrary, vanadium addition inhibits it. The differences observed between the CO(2) chemisorption processes are mainly correlated to the different lithium secondary phases produced in each case and their corresponding diffusion properties.  相似文献

The platelike crystals of a series of novel molecular conductors, which are based on the pi-donor molecules BDT-TTP (2,5-bis(1,3-dithiol-2-ylidene)-1,3,4,6-tetrathiapentalene) with a tetrathiapentalene skeleton and lanthanide nitrate complex anions [Ln(NO3)x](3-x)(Ln = La, Ce, (Pr), Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu) with localized 4f magnetic moments, were synthesized. Except for the Ce complex, the salts were composed of (BDT-TTP)(5)[Ln(NO(3))(5)] and were isostructural. Even though the Ce crystal had a different composition, (BDT-TTP)(6)[Ce(NO(3))(6)](C(2)H(5)OH)(x)() (x approximately 3), the crystals all had the space group P(-)1. Although the X-ray examination of the Pr salts was insufficient, the existence of two modifications was suggested in these systems by preliminary X-ray examination. Previously, we reported the crystal structures and unique magnetic properties of (BDT-TTP)(5)[Ln(NO(3))(5)] (Ln = Sm, Eu, Nd, Gd). Thus, by combining the results of this work with previous one, we for the first time succeeded in obtaining a complete set of organic conductors composed of the identical pi-donors (BDT-TTP in this case) and all the lanthanide nitrate complex anions (except the complex with Pm(3+)). The crystals were all metallic down to 2 K. Electronic band structure calculations resulted in two-dimensional Fermi surfaces, which was consistent with their stable metallic states. Except for the Lu complex, which lacked paramagnetic moments, the magnetic susceptibilities were measured on the six heavy lanthanide ion complex salts by a SQUID magnetometer (Ln = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb). The large paramagnetic susceptibilities, which were caused by the paramagnetic moments of the rare-earth ions, were obtained. The Curie-Weiss law fairly accurately reproduced the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibilities of (BDT-TTP)(5)[Ho(NO(3))(5)] in the experimental temperature range (2-300 K) and a comparatively large Weiss temperature (|THETAV;|) was obtained (THETAV;(Ho) = -15 K). A Weiss temperature (THETAV;(Tm) = -8 K) was also obtained for Tm. The |THETAV;| values of other (BDT-TTP)(5)[Ln(NO(3))(5)] salts and (BDT-TTP)(6)[Ce(NO(3))(6)](C(2)H(5)OH)x(x approximately 3) were as follows: |THETAV;|/K = 4 (Er), < or =2 (Ce, Tb, Dy, Yb). The comparatively strong intermolecular magnetic interaction between Ho(3+) ions, which was suggested by the |THETAV;| value, is inconsistent with the traditional image of strongly localized 4f orbitals shielded by the electrons in the outer 5s and 5p orbitals. The dipole interactions between Ln(3+) ions causing the Curie-Weiss behavior and the comparatively large THETAV; value of (BDT-TTP)(5)[Ho(NO(3))(5)] is inconsistent with the data, since the complexes exhibit isostructural properties and there is not a clear relationship between the magnitudes of THETAV; values and those of magnetic moments. Therefore, it is possible that the 4f orbitals of Ho atom are sensitive to the ligand field, which will have an effect on the orbital moment of the Ho(3+) ion and/or produce a small amount of mixing between 4f and ligand orbitals to give rise to "real" intermolecular antiferromagnetic interaction through intermolecular overlapping between pi (BDT-TTP) and ligand orbitals of lanthanide nitrate complex anions.  相似文献

The title compound was detected and characterized during a systematic study of the Al-rich part of the Co-Al-Si system. The crystal structure was established via single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It represents a new type of structure of intermetallic compounds (Pearson symbol mC26, space group C2/m). The homogeneity range of the phase Co4Al(7+x)Si(2-x) (0.27(3) < or = x < or = 1.05(2)) and equilibria with neighboring phases were studied by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) and X-ray powder diffraction. The lattice parameters of the compound were found to vary between Al-poor and Al-rich composition (a = 11.949(1)-12.042(1) A, b = 3.9986(4)-4.0186(4) A, c = 7.6596(8)-7.6637(9) A, and beta = 106.581(7)-106.140(7) degrees). A partial disorder caused by the Al/Si substitution in one of the five main group element positions was found, and different ordering models yielding different Al/Si occupation motifs and different distributions of interatomic distances are discussed in detail. Chemical bonding analysis with the electron localization function (ELF) reveals a covalently bonded Al/Si network and rather ionic interactions between Co and the network.  相似文献

The isostructural rare-earth titanium antimonides RE 2Ti 11 - x Sb 14 + x ( RE = Sm, Gd, Tb, Yb) have been synthesized by arc-melting reactions of the elements. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that they adopt a new structure type (Pearson symbol oP54, space group Pnma, Z = 2; a = 15.8865(6)-15.9529(9) A, b = 5.7164(2)-5.7135(3) A, c = 12.9244(5)-12.9442(7) A for RE = Sm-Yb). The structure consists of titanium-centered octahedra (CN6) and pentagonal bipyramids (CN7) connected to form a 3D framework whose cavities are filled with RE atoms. 1D linear skewers of titanium atoms, within face-sharing octahedral chains, and similar skewers of antimony atoms, associated with the titanium-centered pentagonal bipyramids, extend along the b direction. On proceeding from Sm 2Ti 11Sb 14 to Tb 2Ti 10.41(1)Sb 14.59(1) and Yb 2Ti 10.58(1)Sb 14.42(1), antimony atoms are disordered within some of the titanium sites. Resistivity measurements on the samarium and ytterbium members indicated metallic behavior.  相似文献

The cobalt aluminum silicides Co19Al45Si(10-x) (x = 0.13) and Co5Al14Si2 were synthesized in liquid aluminum and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Co19Al45Si(10-x) (x = 0.13) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with lattice parameters a = 19.991(2) A, b = 19.143(2) A, c = 12.8137(15) A, beta = 123.583(2) degrees. Co5Al14Si2 adopts the orthorhombic space group Pnma with cell parameters a = 13.8948(19) A, b = 23.039(3) A, c = 7.3397(10) A. Both structures are exceptionally complex with the Co2Si2 rhombus being a common building motif. The coordination environments of cobalt atoms resemble those of the transition metals in typical quasi-crystal approximants. Co5Al14Si2 shows oxidation resistance in air up to 1000 degrees C by forming a dense-packed Al2O3 layer on the surface of the crystal.  相似文献

Designed ferromagnetic, ferroelectric Bi(2)NiMnO(6)   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A newly designed ferromagnetic, ferroelectric compound, Bi(2)NiMnO(6), was prepared by high-pressure synthesis at 6 GPa. The crystal structure, as determined by synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction, is a heavily distorted double perovskite with Ni(2+) and Mn(4+) ions ordered in a rock-salt configuration. The presence of 6s(2) lone pairs of Bi(3+) ions and the covalent Bi-O bonds give ferroelectric properties with T(CE) of 485 K, while -Ni(2+)-O-Mn(4+)-O-Ni(2+)- magnetic paths lead to a ferromagnetism with T(CM) of 140 K. This simple material design to distribute two magnetic elements with and without e(g) electrons on B sites of Bi- and Pb-based perovkites can be applied to other Bi(2)M(2+)M'(4+)O(6) and Pb(2)M(3+)M'(5+)O(6) systems to search for newer ferromagnetic ferroelectrics.  相似文献

Variable temperature X-ray and neutron powder diffraction techniques have been used to identify structural phase transitions in Cu-rich A(3)A'BO(6) phases. A transition from monoclinic to rhombohedral symmetry was observed by X-ray diffraction between 700 and 500 K in Sr(3)Cu(1-x)M(x)IrO(6) (M = Ni, Zn; 0 < or = x < or = 0.5). The temperature of the phase change decreased in a linear manner with Cu-content and was essentially independent of the nature of M. Ca(3.1)Cu(0.9)MnO(6) was shown to pass from a rhombohedral phase to a triclinic phase on cooling below 290 K; the structure of the triclinic phase was refined against neutron diffraction data collected at 2 K. Ca(3.1)Cu(0.9)RuO(6) undergoes a transition between a disordered rhombohedral phase and an ordered monoclinic phase when cooled below 623 K. Neutron diffraction has been used to determine the structure as a function of temperature in the range 523 < or =T/K < or = 723 and hence to determine an order parameter for the low temperature phase; the second-order transition is shown to be incomplete 100 K below the critical temperature.  相似文献

As a supplementary method to single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), nowadays crystal structure determination by powder XRD has become popular, especially for those areas with difficulties getting high quality single crystals. Here we observed an intermediate phase Bi(2)Mn(x)Al(7-x)O(14) (x~1) during the decomposition of mullite-Bi(2)Mn(x)Al(4-x)O(9+δ) (solid solution of Bi(2)Mn(4)O(10)-Bi(2)Al(4)O(9)). As a metastable phase, it started to decompose while forming, thus no single-phase sample can be obtained. We successfully determined its structure by powder XRD from a multi-phase sample. A modified Le Bail fitting using the atomic structure information of known impurities showed a more reliable intensity extraction from a multi-phase powder XRD than that without using atomic structures for the known impurities. The charge-flipping algorithm and Monte-Carlo based simulated annealing technique were then applied to obtain the full structural model. In principle, this strategy is applicable to more complex problems, and not limited to the oxide materials. Bi(2)Mn(x)Al(7-x)O(14) possesses a mullite-related structure. There are one tetrahedral and two octahedral sites for Mn and Al, where disordering with substantial site preferences is observed. Specifically, M1O(6) and M3O(6) octahedra share edges along the c-direction with the periodicity of 1 : 2. These octahedral chains are further connected into a 3D structure through M2O(4) dimmers and Bi.  相似文献
