We construct a compact linearly ordered space Kω1 of weight 1, such that the space C(Kω1) is not isomorphic to a Banach space with a projectional resolution of the identity, while on the other hand, Kω1 is a continuous image of a Valdivia compact and every separable subspace of C(Kω1) is contained in a 1-complemented separable subspace. This answers two questions due to O. Kalenda and V. Montesinos.  相似文献

Consider the model Y=m(X)+ε, where m(⋅)=med(Y|⋅) is unknown but smooth. It is often assumed that ε and X are independent. However, in practice this assumption is violated in many cases. In this paper we propose modeling the dependence between ε and X by means of a copula model, i.e. (ε,X)∼Cθ(Fε(⋅),FX(⋅)), where Cθ is a copula function depending on an unknown parameter θ, and Fε and FX are the marginals of ε and X. Since many parametric copula families contain the independent copula as a special case, the so-obtained regression model is more flexible than the ‘classical’ regression model.We estimate the parameter θ via a pseudo-likelihood method and prove the asymptotic normality of the estimator, based on delicate empirical process theory. We also study the estimation of the conditional distribution of Y given X. The procedure is illustrated by means of a simulation study, and the method is applied to data on food expenditures in households.  相似文献

We say that a countable model M completely characterizes an infinite cardinal κ, if the Scott sentence of M has a model in cardinality κ, but no models in cardinality κ+. If a structure M completely characterizes κ, κ is called characterizable. In this paper, we concern ourselves with cardinals that are characterizable by linearly ordered structures (cf. Definition 2.1).Under the assumption of GCH, Malitz completely resolved the problem by showing that κ is characterizable if and only if κ=α, for some α<ω1 (cf. Malitz (1968) [7] and Baumgartner (1974) [1]). Our results concern the case where GCH fails.From Hjorth (2002) [3], we can deduce that if κ is characterizable, then κ+ is characterizable by a densely ordered structure (see Theorem 2.4 and Corollary 2.5).We show that if κ is homogeneously characterizable (cf. Definition 2.2), then κ is characterizable by a densely ordered structure, while the converse fails (Theorem 2.3).The main theorems are (1) If κ>2λ is a characterizable cardinal, λ is characterizable by a densely ordered structure and λ is the least cardinal such that κλ>κ, then κλ is also characterizable (Theorem 5.4) and (2) if α and κα are characterizable cardinals, then the same is true for κα+β, for all countable β (Theorem 5.5).Combining these two theorems we get that if κ>2α is a characterizable cardinal, α is characterizable by a densely ordered structure and α is the least cardinal such that κα>κ, then for all β<α+ω1, κβ is characterizable (Theorem 5.7). Also if κ is a characterizable cardinal, then κα is characterizable, for all countable α (Corollary 5.6). This answers a question of the author in Souldatos (submitted for publication) [8].  相似文献

Let n≥23 be an integer and let D2n be the dihedral group of order 2n. It is proved that, if g1,g2,…,g3n is a sequence of 3n elements in D2n, then there exist 2n distinct indices i1,i2,…,i2n such that gi1gi2?gi2n=1. We study three types of quotient maps of frames which are closely related to C- and C?-quotient maps. We call them C1-, strong C1-, and uplifting quotient maps. C1-quotient maps are precisely those whose induced ring homomorphisms contract maximal ideals to maximal ideals. We show that every homomorphism onto a frame is a C1-, a strong C1-, or an uplifting quotient map iff the frame is pseudocompact, compact, or almost compact and normal, respectively. These quotient maps are used to characterize normality and also certain weaker forms of normality in a manner akin to the characterization of normal frames as those for which every closed quotient map is a C-quotient map. Under certain conditions, we show that the Stone extension of a quotient map is C1-, strongly C1- or uplifting if the map has the corresponding property.  相似文献

Let X be a T0-space, we say that X is H-spectral if its T0-compactification is spectral. This paper deal with topological properties of H-spectral spaces. In the case of T1-spaces the T0-compactification coincides with the Wallman compactification. The vanishing ideal I of a subspace arrangement V1V2∪?∪VmV is an intersection I1I2∩?∩Im of linear ideals. We give a formula for the Hilbert polynomial of I if the subspaces meet transversally. We also give a formula for the Hilbert series of the product ideal J=I1I2?Im without any assumptions about the subspace arrangement. It turns out that the Hilbert series of J is a combinatorial invariant of the subspace arrangement: it only depends on the intersection lattice and the dimension function. The graded Betti numbers of J are determined by the Hilbert series, so they are combinatorial invariants as well. We will also apply our results to generalized principal component analysis (GPCA), a tool that is useful for computer vision and image processing.  相似文献

In this paper we apply the equivariant degree method to study Hopf bifurcations in a system of differential equations describing a symmetric predator-prey-mutualist model with diffusive migration between interacting communities. A topological classification (according to symmetry types), of symmetric Hopf bifurcation in configurations of populations with D8, D12, A4 and S4 symmetries, is presented with estimation on minimal number of bifurcating branches of periodic solutions.  相似文献

We consider a tumor model in which all cells are proliferating at a rate μ and their density is proportional to the nutrient concentration. The model consists of a coupled system of an elliptic equation and a parabolic equation, with the tumor boundary as a free boundary. It is known that for an appropriate choice of parameters, there exists a unique spherically symmetric stationary solution with radius RS which is independent of μ. It was recently proved that there is a function μ(RS) such that the spherical stationary solution is linearly stable if μ<μ(RS) and linearly unstable if μ>μ(RS). In this paper we prove that the spherical stationary solution is nonlinearly stable (or, asymptotically stable) if μ<μ(RS).  相似文献

The Wiener polynomial of a graph G is a generating function for the distance distribution dd(G)=(D1,D2,…,Dt), where Di is the number of unordered pairs of distinct vertices at distance i from one another and t is the diameter of G. We use the Wiener polynomial and several related generating functions to obtain generating functions for distance distributions of unweighted and weighted graphs that model certain large classes of computer networks. These provide a straightforward means of computing distance and timing statistics when designing new networks or enlarging existing networks.  相似文献

Let ? be an algebraic unit such that rank of the unit group of the order Z[?] is equal to one. It is natural to ask whether ? is a fundamental unit of this order. To prove this result, we showed that it suffices to find explicit positive constants c1, c2 and c3 such that for any such ? it holds that c1c2|?|?d??c3|?|2c2, where d? denotes the absolute value of the discriminant of ?, i.e. of the discriminant of its minimal polynomial. A topological group is minimal if it does not admit a strictly coarser Hausdorff group topology. The Roelcke uniformity (or lower uniformity) on a topological group is the greatest lower bound of the left and right uniformities. A group is Roelcke-precompact if it is precompact with respect to the Roelcke uniformity. Many naturally arising non-Abelian topological groups are Roelcke-precompact and hence have a natural compactification. We use such compactifications to prove that some groups of isometries are minimal. In particular, if U1 is the Urysohn universal metric space of diameter 1, the group Iso(U1) of all self-isometries of U1 is Roelcke-precompact, topologically simple and minimal. We also show that every topological group is a subgroup of a minimal topologically simple Roelcke-precompact group of the form Iso(M), where M is an appropriate non-separable version of the Urysohn space.  相似文献

If AB are structures for a first-order language S, A is said to be algebraically (existentially) closed in B just in case every positive existential (existential) SA-sentence true in BA is true in AA. In 1976 Elliott showed that unital AF (‘approximately finite-dimensional’) algebras are classified up to isomorphism by corresponding dimension groups with order unit. This paper shows that one dimension group with order unit is algebraically (existentially) closed in another just in case the corresponding AF algebras, viewed as metric structures, fall in the same relation.  相似文献

Mesh geometries of roots of positive definite quadratic forms q:ZnZ are studied in connection with root mesh quivers of forms associated to Dynkin diagrams An,Dn,E6,E7,E8 and the Auslander-Reiten quivers of the derived category Db(R) of path algebras R=KQ of Dynkin quivers Q. We introduce the concepts of a Z-morsification bA of a quadratic form q, a weighted ΦA-mesh of vectors in Zn, and a weighted ΦA-mesh orbit translation quiver Γ(Rq,ΦA) of vectors in Zn, where Rq?Rq(1) and ΦA:ZnZn is the Coxeter isomorphism defined by A. The existence of mesh geometries on Rq is discussed. It is shown that, under some assumptions on the morsification bA:Zn×ZnZ, the set admit a ΦA-orbit mesh quiver , where ΦA:ZnZn is the Coxeter isomorphism defined by A. Moreover, splits into three infinite connected components , , and , where are isomorphic to a translation quiver ZΔ, with Δ an extended Dynkin quiver, and has the shape of a sand-glass tube.  相似文献
