In the rational category of nilpotent complexes, let E be an H-space acting on a space X. With mild hypotheses we show that the action on the base point factors through a map ΓE:SEX, where SE is a finite product of odd-dimensional spheres and ΓE is a homotopy monomorphism. We study nilpotent subgroups of automorphism groups in the category of groups and the homotopy category of spaces. We establish localization and completion theorems for nilpotent groups of automorphisms of nilpotent groups. We then apply these algebraic theorems to prove analogous results for certain groups of self-homotopy equivalences of spaces.  相似文献

We develop an obstruction theory for homotopy of homomorphisms between minimal differential graded algebras. We assume that has an obstruction decomposition given by and that f and g are homotopic on . An obstruction is then obtained as a vector space homomorphism . We investigate the relationship between the condition that f and g are homotopic and the condition that the obstruction is zero. The obstruction theory is then applied to study the set of homotopy classes . This enables us to give a fairly complete answer to a conjecture of Copeland-Shar on the size of the homotopy set [A,B] whenA and B are rational spaces. In addition, we give examples of minimal algebras (and hence of rational spaces) that have few homotopy classes of self-maps. We analyze k-stage formality and relate resonance with this type of formality properties. For instance, we show that, for a finitely generated nilpotent group that is k-stage formal, the resonance varieties are trivial up to degree k. We also show that the cohomology ring, truncated up to degree k+1, of a finitely generated nilpotent, k-stage formal group is generated in degree 1; this criterion is necessary and sufficient for a finitely generated, 2-step nilpotent group to be k-stage formal. We compute resonance varieties for Heisenberg-type groups and deduce the degree of partial formality for this class of groups.  相似文献

We investigate the group of self homotopy equivalences of a space X which induce the identity homomorphism on all homotopy groups. We obtain results on the structure of provided the p-localization of X has the homotopy type of a p-local product of odd-dimensional spheres. In particular, we show that is a semidirect product of certain homotopy groups . We also show that has a central series whose successive quotients are , which are direct sums of homotopy groups of p-local spheres. This leads to a determination of the order of the p-torsion subgroup of and an upper bound for its p-exponent. These results apply to any Lie group G at a regular prime p. We obtain explicit formulas for the rational homotopy groups of generalised symmetric spaces, i.e., the homogeneous spaces for which the isotropy subgroup appears as the fixed point group of some finite order automorphism of the group. It is known algebraically that any abelian group is a direct sum of a divisible group and a reduced group (see Theorem 21.3 of [L. Fuchs, Infinite Abelian Groups, vol. I, Academic Press, New York-London, 1970]). In this paper, conditions to split off rational parts in homotopy types from a given space are studied in terms of a variant of Hurewicz map, say and generalised Gottlieb groups. This yields decomposition theorems on rational homotopy types of Hopf spaces, T-spaces and Gottlieb spaces, which has been known in various situations, especially for spaces with finiteness conditions.  相似文献

A simply connected topological space X has homotopy Lie algebra π(ΩX)⊗Q. Following Quillen, there is a connected differential graded free Lie algebra (dgL) called a Lie model, which determines the rational homotopy type of X, and whose homology is isomorphic to the homotopy Lie algebra. We show that such a Lie model can be replaced with one that has a special property that we call being separated. The homology of a separated dgL has a particular form which lends itself to calculations.  相似文献

Let N be a finitely generated nilpotent group. We show that there is an algorithm that for any automorphism φAut(N) computes its Reidemeister number R(φ). It is proved that any free nilpotent group Nrc of rank r and class c belongs to class R if any of the following conditions holds: r=2 and c≥4; r=3 and c≥12; r≥4 and c≥2r.  相似文献

Complete PL and topological classification and partial smooth classification of manifolds homotopy equivalent to a Wall's manifold (defined as a mapping torus of a Dold manifold), introduced by Wall in his 1960 Annals paper on cobordism, have been done by determining: (1) the normal invariants of Wall's manifolds, (2) the surgery obstruction of a normal invariant and (3) the action of the Wall surgery obstruction groups on the smooth, PL and homeomorphism classes of homotopy Wall's manifolds (to be made precise in the body of the paper). Consequently classification results of automorphisms (self homeomorphisms, and self PL-homeomorphisms) of Dold manifolds follow.  相似文献

The settings for homotopical algebra—categories such as simplicial groups, simplicial rings, AA spaces, EE ring spectra, etc.—are often equivalent to categories of algebras over some monad or triple T. In such cases, T is acting on a nice simplicial model category in such a way that T descends to a monad on the homotopy category and defines a category of homotopy T-algebras.
