A polynomial expansion procedure and an analytical discrete-ordinates method are used to solve four basic problems, all based on the linearized Boltzmann equation for rigid-sphere interactions, that describe heat transfer and/or evaporation–condensation between two parallel surfaces or for the case of a semi-infinite half space. Relevant to the case of two surfaces, the basic problem of heat transfer driven by a temperature difference at two confining walls described by a general Maxwell gas–surface interaction law (a mixture of specular and diffuse reflection) is solved for the case where different accommodation coefficients can be used for each of the two bounding surfaces. In addition, the classical problem of “reverse temperature gradient” in the theory of evaporation and condensation is also solved for the case of two parallel liquid–vapor interfaces kept at different temperatures. In regard to half-space applications, an evaporation/condensation problem based on a presumed known interface condition and a heat-conduction problem (with no net flow) driven by energy flow from a bounding surface with know properties are each solved with what is considered a high degree of accuracy.  相似文献

A study is made of the stability of nonisothermal flow of a film of viscous liquid down an inclined plane under the influence of gravity with allowance for dissipation of energy in the flow. It is assumed that the liquid is incompressible, and that its physical properties do not depend on the temperature. On the free surface of the film, allowance is made for evaporation and condensation effects. The treatment is in the long-wavelength approximation of the method proposed by Yih Chia-shun [1]. The expression obtained for the critical Reynolds number at which the flow becomes unstable indicates that viscous dissipation plays a destabilizing part in a nonisothermal flow.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 4, pp. 145–148, July–August, 1979.  相似文献

In pool boiling, the electrically heated tube releases the energy non-uniformly to the liquid, due to different surface roughness and flowing liquid. The heat transfer coefficient therefore varies with axial and azimuthal position on the tube. Hence a finite element analysis has been carried out on a horizontal 1in. copper tube for evaporation in pool boiling for three-dimensional conduction heat transfer. A test tube has been made with different surface structures, tested and analysed for heat conduction effects. It has been observed that significant amount of heat flows in azimuthal and axial directions in addition to the heat flow in radial direction.  相似文献

A finite element method for the transient incompressible Navier–Stokes equations with the ability to handle multiple free boundaries is presented. Problems of liquid–liquid type are treated by solving two coupled Navier–Stokes problems for two separate phases. The possibility to solve problems of liquid–gas, liquid–liquid–gas or liquid–liquid–liquid type is demonstrated too. Surface tension effects are included at deformable interfaces. The method is of Lagrangian type with mesh redefinition. A predictor-corrector scheme is used to compute the position of the deformable interface with automatic control of its accuracy and smoothness. The method is provided with an automatic choice of the time integration step and an optional spline filtration of the truncation error at the free surface. In order to show the accuracy of the method, tests and comparisons are presented. Numerical examples include motion of bubbles and multiple drops.  相似文献

A numerical study of the evaporation in mixed convection of a pure alcohol liquid film: ethanol and methanol was investigated. It is a turbulent liquid film falling on the internal face of a vertical tube. A laminar flow of dry air enters the vertical tube at constant temperature in the downward direction. The wall of the tube is subjected to a constant and uniform heat flux. The model solves the coupled parabolic governing equations in both phases including turbulent liquid film together with the boundary and interfacial conditions. The systems of equations obtained by using an implicit finite difference method are solved by TDMA method. A Van Driest model is adopted to simulate the turbulent liquid film flow. The influence of the inlet liquid flow, Reynolds number in the gas flow and the wall heat flux on the intensity of heat and mass transfers are examined. A comparison between the results obtained for studied alcohols and water in the same conditions is made.  相似文献

The dynamic interactions between gas bubbles, rigid particles and liquid can lead to profound nonlinearities in the aggregate behavior of a multiphase fluid. Predicting the nonlinear dynamics of the multiphase mixture hence requires understanding how the phases interact at the scale of individual interfaces, but these interactions are notoriously difficult to resolve in models. The goal of this paper is to develop and validate a computational method capable of capturing the complex flow interactions between gas bubbles and rigid particles immersed in a Newtonian liquid. We focus on multiphase systems that are dilute enough for the solid and gas components to move through and be moved by the ambient liquid. We use level sets with a topology-preserving advection scheme to track the gas interfaces. To include the motion of the rigid particles, we couple distributed Lagrange multipliers to an immersed-boundary method. The high viscosity contrast between the liquid and the gas requires both time splitting and approximate factorization to efficiently solve the governing equations consisting of the conservation of mass, momentum and energy. To resolve interactions between interfaces that vary drastically in size, we refine our mesh adaptively in the vicinity of the boundary.  相似文献

Many energy production and chemical processes involve vapor/liquid two-phase flows. Mass and energy are often exchanged between the vapor and the liquid phases, and the fluid mechanics of the two-phase system is strongly influenced by the exchange of momentum between each phase. Significantly, the transport of mass, energy and momentum between the phases takes place across interfaces. Therefore the interfacial area density (i.e. the interfacial area per unit volume) has to be accurately known in order to make reliable predictions of the interfacial transfers. Indeed, the interfacial area density must be known for both steady and transient two-phase flows. It is the purpose of this paper to present a first order relaxation model which is derived from the Boltzmann transport equation, and which accurately describes the evolution of interfacial area density for bubbly flows. In particular, the local, instantaneous interfacial area densities and volume fractions are predicted for vertical flow of a vapor/liquid bubbly flow involving both bubble clusters and individual bubbles.  相似文献

A first-order accurate method of extending the capability of image velocimetry to interfaces is presented. In this method, the image fields are locally extended across interfaces using fields from the other image of an image pair. During this image parity exchange, the extension of the image fields amounts to locally reversing and reflecting the relative velocity field across the interface. Numerous experimental examples are given to demonstrate and validate the accuracy of the method. These are the plane Couette flow and the laminar pipe flow demonstrating straight rigid boundaries; uniform flow past a sphere and a sphere moving in a stagnant fluid demonstrating curved rigid surfaces; and a free-surface flow and a liquid–liquid interface flow demonstrating compliant interfaces. A coupled Lagrangian interface‐tracking and Eulerian level set (LS) method is developed and implemented for numerical simulations of two‐fluid flows. In this method, the interface is identified based on the locations of notional particles and the geometrical information concerning the interface and fluid properties, such as density and viscosity, are obtained from the LS function. The LS function maintains a signed distance function without an auxiliary equation via the particle‐based Lagrangian re‐initialization technique. To assess the new hybrid method, numerical simulations of several ‘standard interface‐moving’ problems and two‐fluid laminar and turbulent flows are conducted. The numerical results are evaluated by monitoring the mass conservation, the turbulence energy spectral density function and the consistency between Eulerian and Lagrangian components. The results of our analysis indicate that the hybrid particle‐level set method can handle interfaces with complex shape change, and can accurately predict the interface values without any significant (unphysical) mass loss or gain, even in a turbulent flow. The results obtained for isotropic turbulence by the new particle‐level set method are validated by comparison with those obtained by the ‘zero Mach number’, variable‐density method. For the cases with small thermal/mass diffusivity, both methods are found to generate similar results. Analysis of the vorticity and energy equations indicates that the destabilization effect of turbulence and the stability effect of surface tension on the interface motion are strongly dependent on the density and viscosity ratios of the fluids. In this work a simplified calculation method taking into account the effect of mass transport on the heat transfer coefficient (HTC) during boiling of multicomponent mixture has been elaborated. The calculation results were compared with own experimental data for ternary system methanol–isopropanol–water and Grigoriev data [1] (acetone–methanol–water). The experiments were performed in different hydrodynamic conditions such as: pool boiling and liquid evaporation at the free surface of the falling film. The experimental data covered wide range of heat fluxes from 6 to 30 kW/m2 in the case of liquid evaporation from the falling film and from 30 to 240 kW/m2 for pool boiling. The analysis of the results indicates that the mass transfer resistance in the liquid phase caused a significant reduction of experimental value HTC in comparison to so-called ideal HTC.  相似文献

This paper aims at investigating the detailed structure of turbulent non-reacting dilute spray flows using advanced laser diagnostics. A simple spray jet nozzle is designed to produce a two-phase slender shear flow in a co-flowing air stream with well-defined boundary conditions. The carrier flow is made intentionally simple and easy to model so that the focus can be placed on the important aspects of droplet dispersion and evaporation, as well as turbulence–droplet interactions. Phase Doppler interferometry is employed to record droplet quantities, while planar laser-induced fluorescence imaging is applied separately to obtain acetone vapour data. Measurements are conducted for four acetone spray jets in air at several axial stations starting from the nozzle exit. The combined liquid and vapour mass fluxes of acetone integrated across the jet at downstream locations agree satisfactorily with the total mass flow rate of acetone injected.  相似文献

The conversion of low-grade fossil and biogenic energy resources (petcoke, biomass) to a synthesis gas in a high pressure entrained flow gasification process opens a wide spectrum for high efficient energy conversion processes. The synthesis gas can be used for production of methane (SNG), liquid fuels (BtL, CtL) or as fuel for operation of a gas turbine in a combined cycle power plant (IGCC). The production of a tar free high quality syngas is a challenging objective especially due to the fact that typical liquid or suspension fuels for entrained flow gasifiers feature viscosities up to 1000 mPas. Fuel droplet conversion at typical entrained flow gasification conditions is characterized by heat up, evaporation and subsequent degradation of the vapour phase. To guarantee a high fuel conversion rate in the gasifier an efficient atomization of the fuel is required. Mainly twin-fluid burner nozzles are used for atomization of those typically high viscous fuels. The present study is focused on the assessment of the accuracy of CFD computations for the primary breakup of high-viscosity liquids using an external mixing twin fluid nozzle. In a first step experiments were performed with a Newtonian glycerol-water-mixture featuring a liquid viscosity of 400 mPas. Jet breakup was investigated using a high speed camera as well as PIV and LDA-System for a detailed investigation of the flow field. In a second step the experimental results serve as reference data to assess the accuracy of CFD computations. Compressible large eddy simulations (LES) were performed to capture the morphology of the primary breakup as well as the important flow field characteristics. A Volume of Fluid (VOF) approach was used to track the unsteady evolution and breakup of the liquid jet. Comparison of experimental and numerical results showed good agreement with respect to breakup frequency, velocity fields and morphology.  相似文献

One of the most important tasks in development of modern gas turbine combustors is the reduction of NOx emissions. An effective way to reduce the NOx emission is using the lean premixed prevaporization (LPP) concept. An important phenomenon taking place in LPP chambers is the evaporation of thin fuel films. To increase the fuel evaporation rate, the use of microstructured walls has been suggested. The wall microstructures make use of the capillary forces to evenly distribute the liquid fuel over the wall, so that the appearance of uncontrolled dry patches can be avoided. Moreover, the wall structures promote the thin film evaporation characterized by ultra-high evaporation rates. An experimental setup was built for the investigation of thin liquid films falling down on the outer surface of vertical tubes with either a smooth or structured surface. In the first testing phase water is used, fuel like liquids will be used later on. The thin film can be heated from both sides, by hot oil flowing inside the tube, and by hot compressed air flowing in co-current direction to the thin film. The film is partly evaporated along the flow. Results for the wavy film structure at different Reynolds numbers are reported. For theoretical investigations a model describing the hydrodynamics and heat transfer due to evaporation of the gravity- and shear-driven undisturbed liquid film on structured surfaces was developed. For low Reynolds numbers or low liquid mass fluxes the wall surface is only partly covered with liquid and the heat transfer is shown to be governed by the evaporation of the ultra-thin film in the vicinity of the three-phase contact line. A numerical model for the solution of a two-dimensional free-surface flow of a liquid film over a structured wall was also developed. The Navier–Stokes equations are solved using the Volume of Fluid (VOF) technique. The energy equation is included in the model. The model is verified by comparison with data from the literature showing favorable agreement. In particular, the proposed model predicts the formation of capillary waves observed in the experiments. The model is used to investigate the flow of liquid on a structured wall. This calculation is the first step towards the modeling of a three-dimensional wavy flow of a gravity- and shear-driven film along a wall with longitudinal grooves. It is found that due to the Marangoni effect, a circulating flow arises within the cavity, thereby leading to an enhancement in the evaporation rate.  相似文献

A finite-strain phase field model for martensitic phase transformation and twinning in shape memory alloys is developed and confronted with the corresponding sharp-interface approach extended to interfacial energy effects. The model is set in the energy framework so that the kinetic equations and conditions of mechanical equilibrium are fully defined by specifying the free energy and dissipation potentials. The free energy density involves the bulk and interfacial energy contributions, the latter describing the energy of diffuse interfaces in a manner typical for phase-field approaches. To ensure volume preservation during martensite reorientation at finite deformation within a diffuse interface, it is proposed to apply linear mixing of the logarithmic transformation strains. The physically different nature of phase interfaces and twin boundaries in the martensitic phase is reflected by introducing two order-parameters in a hierarchical manner, one as the reference volume fraction of austenite, and thus of the whole martensite, and the second as the volume fraction of one variant of martensite in the martensitic phase only. The microstructure evolution problem is given a variational formulation in terms of incremental fields of displacement and order parameters, with unilateral constraints on volume fractions explicitly enforced by applying the augmented Lagrangian method. As an application, size-dependent microstructures with diffuse interfaces are calculated for the cubic-to-orthorhombic transformation in a CuAlNi shape memory alloy and compared with the sharp-interface microstructures with interfacial energy effects.  相似文献

This work proposes a novel physics-based model for the fluid mechanics and heat transfer associated with slug flow boiling in horizontal circular microchannels to update the widely used three-zone model of Thome et al. (2004). The heat transfer model has a convective boiling nature and predicts the time-dependent variation of the local heat transfer coefficient during the cyclic passage of a liquid slug, an evaporating elongated bubble and a vapor plug. The capillary flow theory, extended to incorporate evaporation effects, is applied to estimate the bubble velocity along the channel. A liquid film thickness prediction method also considering bubble proximity effects, which may limit the radial extension of the film, is included. The minimum liquid film thickness at dryout is set to the channel wall roughness. Theoretical heat transfer models accounting for the thermal inertia of the liquid film and for the recirculating flow within the liquid slug are utilized. The heat transfer model is compared to experimental data taken from three independent studies. The 833 slug flow boiling data points cover the fluids R134a, R245fa and R236fa, and channel diameters below 1 mm. The proposed evaporation model predicts more than 80% of the database to within ±30%. It demonstrates a stronger contribution to heat transfer by the liquid slugs and correspondingly less by the thin film evaporation process compared to the original three-zone model. This model represents a new step towards a complete physics-based modelling of the bubble dynamics and heat transfer within microchannels under evaporating flow conditions.  相似文献

A numerical technique is developed for the simulation of free surface flows and interfaces. This technique combines the strength on the finite element method (FEM) in calculating the field variables for a deforming boundary and the versatility of the volume-of-fluid (VOF) technique in advection of the fluid interfaces. The advantage of the VOF technique is that it allows the simulation of interfaces with large deformations, including surface merging and breaking. However, its disadantage is that is solving the flow equations, it cannot resolve interfaces smaller than the cell size, since information on the subgrid scale is lost. Therefore the accuracy of the interface reconstruction and the treatment of the boundary conditions (i.e. viscous stresses and surface tension forces) become grid-size-dependent. On the other hand, the FEM with deforming interface mesh allows accurate implementation of the boundary conditions, but it cannot handle large surface deformations occurring in breaking and merging of liquid regions. Combining the two methods into a hybrid FEM-VOF method eliminates the major shortcomings of both. The outcome is a technique which can handle large surface deformations with accurate treatment of the boundary conditions. For illustration, two computational examples are presented, namely the instability and break-up of a capillary jet and the coalescence collision of two liquid drops.  相似文献

High speed underwater systems involve many modelling and simulation difficulties related to shocks, expansion waves and evaporation fronts. Modern propulsion systems like underwater missiles also involve extra difficulties related to non-condensable high speed gas flows. Such flows involve many continuous and discontinuous waves or fronts and the difficulty is to model and compute correctly jump conditions across them, particularly in unsteady regime and in multi-dimensions. To this end a new theory has been built that considers the various transformation fronts as ‘diffuse interfaces’. Inside these diffuse interfaces relaxation effects are solved in order to reproduce the correct jump conditions. For example, an interface separating a compressible non-condensable gas and compressible water is solved as a multiphase mixture where stiff mechanical relaxation effects are solved in order to match the jump conditions of equal pressure and equal normal velocities. When an interface separates a metastable liquid and its vapor, the situation becomes more complex as jump conditions involve pressure, velocity, temperature and entropy jumps. However, the same type of multiphase mixture can be considered in the diffuse interface and stiff velocity, pressure, temperature and Gibbs free energy relaxation are used to reproduce the dynamics of such fronts and corresponding jump conditions. A general model, based on multiphase flow theory is thus built. It involves mixture energy and mixture momentum equations together with mass and volume fraction equations for each phase or constituent. For example, in high velocity flows around underwater missiles, three phases (or constituents) have to be considered: liquid, vapor and propulsion gas products. It results in a flow model with 8 partial differential equations. The model is strictly hyperbolic and involves waves speeds that vary under the degree of metastability. When none of the phase is metastable, the non-monotonic sound speed is recovered. When phase transition occurs, the sound speed decreases and phase transition fronts become expansion waves of the equilibrium system. The model is built on the basis of asymptotic analysis of a hyperbolic total non-equilibrium multiphase flow model, in the limit of stiff mechanical relaxation. Closure relations regarding heat and mass transfer are built under the examination of entropy production. The mixture equation of state (EOS) is based on energy conservation and mechanical equilibrium of the mixture. Pure phases EOS are used in the mixture EOS instead of cubic one in order to prevent loss of hyperbolicity in the spinodal zone of the phase diagram. The corresponding model is able to deal with metastable states without using Van der Waals representation.  相似文献

A diagnostic technique capable of characterizing interfaces between transparent, immiscible fluids is developed and demonstrated by investigating the morphology of liquid–gas interfaces in an adiabatic two-phase flow through a microchannel of 500 μm × 500 μm square cross section. Water seeded with 0.5 μm-diameter fluorescent polystyrene particles is pumped through the channel, and the desired adiabatic two-phase flow regime is achieved through controlled air injection. The diagnostic technique relies on obtaining particle position data through epifluorescent imaging of the flow at excitation and emission wavelengths of 532 nm and 620 nm, respectively. The particle position data are then used to resolve interface locations to within ±1 μm in the focal plane. By mapping the interface within individual focal planes at various depths within the channel, it is possible to determine the complete liquid–gas interface geometry across the channel cross section in a dynamic flow environment. Utilizing this approach, the liquid–gas phase boundaries of annular flows within a microchannel have been successfully characterized.  相似文献
