A Deflationary Metaphysics of Morality

The metaphysical dispute between moral realists and antirealists is cast in terms of properties: the realist holds that moral properties exist, the antirealist denies this claim. There is a longstanding philosophical dispute over the nature of properties, and the obscurity of properties may make the realist/antirealist dispute even more obscure. In the spirit of deflationary theories of truth, we can turn to a deflationary theory of properties in order to clarify this issue. One might reasonably worry that such an account of properties would not be capable of properly characterizing disputes regarding the existence or nonexistence of genuine moral properties. In this paper, I will show that, within this framework, the traditional disputes over the existence of moral properties can be characterized in a far clearer fashion than is usually the case. A deflationary account of properties, along with an explanatory hierarchy of properties, makes the dispute in ontology clear.

On Eisenstein polynomials and zeta polynomials

Eisenstein polynomials, which were defined by Oura, are analogues of the concept of an Eisenstein series. Oura conjectured that there exist some analogous properties between Eisenstein series and Eisenstein polynomials. In this paper, we provide new analogous properties of Eisenstein polynomials and zeta polynomials. These properties are finite analogies of certain properties of Eisenstein series.

Objects, Discreteness, and Pure Power Theories:

Sydney Shoemaker??s causal theory of properties is an important starting place for some contemporary metaphysical perspectives concerning the nature of properties. In this paper, I discuss the causal and intrinsic criteria that Shoemaker stipulates for the identity of genuine properties and relations, and address George Molnar??s criticism that holding both criteria presents an unbridgeable hypothesis in the causal theory of properties. The causal criterion requires that properties and relations contribute to the causal powers of objects if they are to be deemed genuine rather than ??mere-Cambridge??. The intrinsic criterion requires that all genuine properties and relations be intrinsic. Molnar??s S-property argument says that these criteria conflict if one considers extrinsic spatiotemporal properties and relations to contribute causally. In this paper, I argue that a solution to the contradiction that Molnar identifies involves a denial of discreteness between objects, leading to a power holist perspective and a resulting deflationary account of intrinsicality.

In the paper [properties defined with semi-continuous functions and some related spaces',Houston J.Math.,2015,41(3):1097–1106] properties(U L)~(wl)_m,(U L)~K_m and(U L)_m were defined and it was shown that spaces having these properties coincide with countably paracompact spaces,countably mesocompact spaces and countably metacompact spaces,respectively.In this paper,we continue with the study on the relationship between properties defined with real-valued functions and some covering properties.Some characterizations of countably compact spaces and pseudo-compact spaces in terms of real-valued functions are obtained.     

Universal properties of bicategories of polynomials

We establish the universal properties of the bicategory of polynomials, considering both cartesian and general morphisms between these polynomials. A direct proof of these universal properties would be impractical due to the complicated coherence conditions arising from polynomial composition; however, in this paper we avoid most of these coherence conditions using the properties of generic bicategories.In addition, we give a new proof of the universal properties of the bicategory of spans, and also establish the universal properties of the bicategory of spans with invertible 2-cells; showing how these properties may be used to describe the universal properties of polynomials.     

Junction trees of general graphs

In this paper, we study the maximal prime subgraphs and their corresponding structure for any undirected graph. We introduce the notion of junction trees and investigate their structural characteristics, including junction properties, induced-subtree properties, running-intersection properties and maximum-weight spanning tree properties. Furthermore, the characters of leaves and edges on junction trees are discussed.

In this paper, some results of the NBUCA class of life distribution are obtained.The preservation properties of NBUCA aging properties under anti-star-shaped transformation are investigated. The preservation of NBUCA aging properties under general accelerated life model are studied as well.     

Preservation properties of a homogeneous Poisson process stopped at an independent random time

To study the ageing and stochastic properties of lifetime random variables, several classes of lifetime distributions have been defined in reliability literature. In this context, an interesting problem is then to investigate the closure properties of such classes under different operators. In this paper, we study the preservation properties of classes of increasing mean inactivity time (IMIT), increasing variance inactivity time (IVIT), and some other recently introduced classes, such as NRBU, NRBUE, and NBRUrh, under a Poisson process stopped at a random time. We also analyze the preservation properties of Poisson shock models for the above-mentioned ageing classes.     

Coefficient rings of numerical semigroup algebras

Numerical semigroup rings are investigated from the relative viewpoint. It is known that algebraic properties such as singularities of a numerical semigroup ring are properties of a flat numerical semigroup algebra. In this paper, we show that arithmetic and set-theoretic properties of a numerical semigroup ring are properties of an equi-gcd numerical semigroup algebra.

     

Selection properties of uniform and related structures

In this paper we present some results on selection properties in asymmetric generalized metric and uniform spaces. We demonstrate differences between selection properties of these spaces and selection properties of metric and uniform spaces.     

Canonical forms for positive discrete-time linear control systems

In this paper, the properties of reachability, controllability and essential reachability of positive discrete-time linear control systems are studied. These properties are characterized in terms of the directed graph of the state matrix. From these characterizations canonical forms of those properties are deduced.     

On strong size levels

H. Hosokawa introduced the concept of a strong size property as a generalization of a Whitney property. In this paper we determine whether some properties are either m-strong size properties, m-strong size-reversible properties or m-sequential strong size-reversible properties.
