On the spectra and eigenfunctions of the Schrödinger and Maxwell operators

The new sufficient conditions of the exponential decay of eigenfunctions and the absence of eigenvalues are obtained for the second-order elliptic operator in L²(rⁿ), generalizing the Schrödinger operator, and for the Maxwell operator with the matrix medium characteristics (the crystal optics operator) in L²(rⁿ).     

Singular integral operators in a weighted L2-space

Cauchy singular integral operators are characterized as operators in a weighted L²-space. The integral operator arises from a singular integral equation with variable coefficients. An appropriate weight function associated with the singular integral operator is constructed, and the set of polynomials orthogonal with respect to this weight function is defined. The action of the operator on polynomial sets is studied, and the definition of the operator is extended to a weighted L²-space. In this space, the operator is shown to be bounded, and, in some cases, isometric. Formulas are developed for the composition of the singular integral operator and its one sided inverse.     

Gauge-periodic point perturbations on the Lobachevsky plane

We study periodic point perturbations of the Shrödinger operator with a uniform magnetic field on the Lobachevsky plane. We prove that the spectrum gaps of the perturbed operator are labeled by the elements of the K₀ group of aC ^* algebra associated with the operator. In particular, if theC ^* algebra has the Kadison property, then the operator spectrum has a band structure.     

On the Kernel of the Equivariant Dirac Operator

We prove a vanishing theorem for certain isotypical components of the kernel of the S¹-equivariant Dirac operator with coefficients in an admissible Clifford module. The method is based on changing the metric by a conformal (generally unbounded) factor and studying the effect of this change on the Dirac operator and its kernel. In the cases relevant to S¹-actions we find that the kernel of the new operator is naturally isomorphic to the kernel of the original operator.     

Approximations of the resolvent for a non-self-adjoint diffusion operator with rapidly oscillating coefficients

A strongly inhomogeneous diffusion operatorwith drift depending on a small parameter ? is studied in the space L ²(? ⁿ ). The strong inhomogeneity consists in that the coefficients of the operator are ?-periodic and, in addition, the drift vector is of the order of ? ^?1. As ? → 0, approximations in the operator L ²-norm of order ? and ? ² are constructed for the resolvent of the operator. For each of these orders of approximation, an averaged diffusion operator is obtained. A spectral method based on the Bloch representation for an operator with periodic coefficients is used.     

BOUNDED LINEAR OPERATORS THAT COMMUTE WITH SHIFTS ARE SCALED IDENTITY

We prove that every bounded linear operator on L^p?L^p(R'),s≥1 and 1≤p<∞, that commutes with both the spatial shift operator and the phase shift operator must be a constant multiple of the identity. We also apply this result to identify analysis-synthesis dual L^q-L^p paris and to characterize bi-orthogonal unconditional bases of L^q-L^p, where p^?1+q^?1=1.     

A Morita theorem for dual operator algebras

We prove that two dual operator algebras are weak^∗ Morita equivalent in the sense of [D.P. Blecher, U. Kashyap, Morita equivalence of dual operator algebras, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 212 (2008) 2401-2412] if and only if they have equivalent categories of dual operator modules via completely contractive functors which are also weak^∗-continuous on appropriate morphism spaces. Moreover, in a fashion similar to the operator algebra case, we characterize such functors as the module normal Haagerup tensor product with an appropriate weak^∗ Morita equivalence bimodule. We also develop the theory of the W^∗-dilation, which connects the non-selfadjoint dual operator algebra with the W^∗-algebraic framework. In the case of weak^∗ Morita equivalence, this W^∗-dilation is a W^∗-module over a von Neumann algebra generated by the non-selfadjoint dual operator algebra. The theory of the W^∗-dilation is a key part of the proof of our main theorem.     

Besov‐Morrey spaces and Triebel‐Lizorkin‐Morrey spaces on domains

The purpose of this paper is to develop a theory of the Besov‐Morrey spaces and the Triebel‐Lizorkin‐Morrey spaces on domains in R ⁿ. We consider the pointwise multiplier operator, the trace operator, the extension operator and the diffeomorphism operator. Not only to domains in R ⁿ we extend our definition of function spaces to compact oriented Riemannian manifolds. Among the properties above, the result for the trace operator is in particular interesting, which reflects the property of the parameters p, q in the Morrey space ??^p_q (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Weighted composition operators from weighted Bergman spaces to weighted-type spaces on the unit ball

We calculate the operator norm of the weighted composition operator from a weighted Bergman space to a weighted-type space on the unit ball of Cⁿ. We also characterize the compactness of the operator.     

Matrix regular operator space and operator system

We establish a relationship between Schreiner's matrix regular operator space and Werner's (nonunital) operator system. For a matrix ordered operator space V with complete norm, we show that V is completely isomorphic and complete order isomorphic to a matrix regular operator space if and only if both V and its dual space V^∗ are (nonunital) operator systems.

The Pseudo-differential Operator hμ,a on Hankel Invariant Spaces

Using Hankel transform the symbol 'a' is defined and the pseudo-differential operator (p.d.o.) h_μ,a associated with the Bessel operator d ²/dx ² + (1 ? 4μ ²)/4x ² in terms of this symbol is defined. It is shown that the operator h_μ,a is a continuous linear map of a Hankel invariant space into itself. A special pseudo-differential operator called the Hankel potential is defined and some of its properties are investigated.     

The Limiting Absorption Principle for Elastic Wave Propagation Problems in Perturbed Stratified Media ℝ3

We consider the self-adjoint operator governing the propagation of elastic waves in perturbed stratified media ℝ³ with free boundary–interface conditions. In this paper we establish the limiting absorption principle for this self-adjoint operator in appropriate Hilbert space. The proof of the limiting absorption principle is based on the division theorem which is proved by means of eigenfunction expansions for the self-adjoint operator governing the propagation of elastic waves in unperturbed stratified media ℝ³.     

Norms of multiplication operators on Hardy spaces and weighted composition operators from Hardy spaces to weighted-type spaces on bounded symmetric domains

Let D be a bounded symmetric domain. We calculate operator norm of the multiplication operator on the Hardy space H^p(D), as well as of the weighted composition operator from H^p(D) to a weighted-type space.     

Solutions for non-negatively weighted TU games derived from extension operators

We suggest two alternatives to the Lovász-Shapley value for non-negatively weighted TU games, the dual Lovász-Shapley value and the Shapley² value. Whereas the former is based on the Lovász extension operator for TU games, the latter two are based on extension operators that share certain economically plausible properties with the Lovász extension operator, the dual Lovász extension operator and the Shapley extension operator, respectively.

To the theory of operator monotone and operator convex functions

We prove that a real function is operator monotone (operator convex) if the corresponding monotonicity (convexity) inequalities are valid for some normal state on the algebra of all bounded operators in an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. We describe the class of convex operator functions with respect to a given von Neumann algebra in dependence of types of direct summands in this algebra. We prove that if a function from ℝ⁺ into ℝ⁺ is monotone with respect to a von Neumann algebra, then it is also operator monotone in the sense of the natural order on the set of positive self-adjoint operators affiliated with this algebra.
