The diagrammatic technique for the standard basis operators and the expansion in powers of 1/z (where z is the number of spins interacting with any given spin) are used to calculate the energies of magnons (in the ferromagnetic and quadrupolar phases) and quadrons (in the ferromagnetic phase) and the bipolar and quadrupolar order parameters (in both phases) in the (1/z)1 approximation and at low temperatures. it is shown that magnons are damped with the exception of the (ferromagnetic and quadrupolar) case of the Schrödinger exchange model and quadrupolar phase; the quadrons are undamped only in a special case of the ferromagnetic phase, i.e. in the ferrogmatic case of the Schrödinger exchange model. In the limit K → 0, i.e. the biquadratic exchange interaction tends to zero, the spectrum of magnons and their damping are identical with the results by Balakhonov et al. The spin waves and quadrupolar order parameter are discussed in more detail in the following cases of the quadrupolar phase: ferromagnetic-quadrupolar limit, isotropic purely quadrupolar interactions, and quadrupolar-antiferromagnetic limit.  相似文献

This article presents the realization of many self-reversible quantum logic gates using two-qubit quadrupolar spin 3/2 systems. Such operations are theoretically described using propagation matrices for the RF pulses that include the effect of the quadrupolar evolution during the pulses. Experimental demonstrations are performed using a generalized form of the recently developed method for quantum state tomography in spin 3/2 systems. By doing so, the possibility of controlling relative phases of superimposed pseudo-pure states is demonstrated. In addition, many aspects of the effect of the quadrupolar evolution, occurring during the RF pulses, on the quantum operations performance are discussed. Most of the procedures presented can be easily adapted to describe selective pulses of higher spin systems (>3/2) and for spin 1/2 under J couplings.  相似文献

A general theory of field dependent spin-lattice relaxation for nuclei of the spin quantum number 1/2 (1H, 19F, 13C) caused by dipole-dipole interactions with neighboring quadrupolar nuclei (nuclei possessing a quadrupolar moment) is presented. The theory is valid for arbitrary motional conditions and should be treated as a quadrupolar counterpart of the paramagnetic relaxation enhancement theory. When the energy level splitting of the dipolar spin (I=1/2) matches one of the transition frequencies of the quadrupolar nuclei one can observe a local enhancement of the dipolar spin relaxation (referred to as "quadrupolar peaks"). To see such effects the dynamics modulating the spin interactions has to be relatively slow. This brings the system beyond the validity range of perturbation approaches and requires the stochastic Liouville equation to be applied. The presented theory describes the quadrupolar relaxation enhancement (QRE) for an arbitrary spin quantum number of the quadrupolar nuclei and includes the asymmetry of the quadrupolar coupling. It has been applied to interpret the shape of magnetization curves (amplitude of 1H magnetization versus magnetic field) for the molecular crystal [C3N2H5]6[Bi4Br18] ([C3N2H5]-imidazolium). The magnetization curves show several dips (local minima) attributed to 1H-14N quadrupolar relaxation enhancement effects. In addition, as a limiting case a perturbation approach to QRE has been presented and its validity conditions have been discussed.  相似文献

Residual dipolar couplings between spin-1/2 and quadrupolar nuclei are often observed and exploited in the magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR spectra of spin-1/2 nuclei. These orientation-dependent splittings contain information on the dipolar interaction, which can be translated into structural information. The same type of splittings may also be observed for pairs of quadrupolar nuclei, although information is often difficult to extract from the quadrupolar-broadened lineshapes. Here, the complete theory for describing the dipolar coupling between two quadrupolar nuclei in the frequency domain by Hamiltonian diagonalization is given. The theory is developed under MAS and double-rotation (DOR) conditions, and is valid for any spin quantum numbers, quadrupolar coupling constants, asymmetry parameters, and tensor orientations at both nuclei. All terms in the dipolar Hamiltonian become partially secular and contribute to the NMR spectrum. The theory is validated using experimental 11B and 35/37Cl NMR experiments carried out on powdered B-chlorocatecholborane, where both MAS and DOR are used to help separate effects of the quadrupolar interaction from those of the dipolar interaction. It is shown that the lineshapes are sensitive to the quadrupolar coupling constant of both nuclei and to the J coupling (including its sign). From these experiments, the dipolar coupling constant for a heteronuclear spin pair of quadrupolar nuclei may be obtained as well as the sign of the quadrupolar coupling constant of the perturbing nucleus; these are two parameters that are difficult to obtain experimentally otherwise.  相似文献

Spin-one magnetic systems with quadrupolar isotropic interactions exhibit a purely quadrupolar ordering below some critical temperature. It is shown that elementary excitations - or quadrons - can be defined in such systems at low temperature. These excitations are compared to librons in molecular crystals, and to magneons in spin one-half antiferromagnets.  相似文献

We have observed that, when going rapidly from ambient temperature down to liquid nitrogen temperature, the nitrogen-14 NQR signal (for transitions involving the m=0 spin state, nitrogen-14 being a quadrupolar nucleus of spin I=1) is increased by a factor of ca. 10(2). While Boltzmann statistics cannot explain this enhancement, the strong temperature dependence of the quadrupolar interaction is very likely to be at the origin of this phenomenon. Indeed, the quadrupolar Hamiltonian becomes time dependent and is prone to induce transitions toward the spin state associated with m=0. Its binding and slow relaxing properties result in a durable increased population and consequently in an increased intensity of NQR lines originating from the state m=0.  相似文献

A new two-dimensional heteronuclear multiple-quantum magic-angle spinning (MQ MAS) experiment is presented which combines high resolution for the half-integer quadrupolar nucleus with information about the dipolar coupling between the quadrupolar nucleus and a spin I=1/2 nucleus. Homonuclear MQ coherence is initially created for the half-integer quadrupolar nucleus by a single pulse as in a standard MQ MAS experiment. REDOR recoupling of the heteronuclear dipolar coupling then allows the creation of a heteronuclear multiple-quantum coherence comprising multiple- and single-quantum coherence of the quadrupolar and spin I=1/2 nucleus, respectively, which evolves during t1. Provided that the t1 increment is not rotor synchronized, rotor-encoded spinning-sideband patterns are observed in the indirect dimension. Simulated spectra for an isolated IS spin pair show that these patterns depend on the recoupling time, the magnitude of the dipolar coupling, the quadrupolar parameters, as well as the relative orientation of the quadrupolar and dipolar principal axes systems. Spectra are presented for Na2HPO4, with the heteronuclear 23Na-1HMQ MAS experiments beginning with the excitation of 23Na (spin I=3/2) three-quantum coherence. Coherence counting experiments demonstrate that four- and two-quantum coherences evolve during t1. The heteronuclear spinning-sideband patterns observed for the three-spin H-Na-H system associated with the Na(2) site are analyzed. For an IS2 system, simulated spectra show that, considering the free parameters, the spinning-sideband patterns are particularly sensitive to only, first, the angle between the two IS internuclear vectors and, second, the two heteronuclear dipolar couplings. It is demonstrated that the proton localization around the Na(2) site according to the literature crystal structure of Na2HPO4 is erroneous. Instead, the experimental data is consistent with two alternative different structural arrangements, whereby either there is a deviation of 10 degrees from linearity for the case of two identical Na-H distances, or there is a linear arrangement, but the two Na-H distances are different. Furthermore, the question of the origin of spinning-sidebands in the (homonuclear) MQ MAS experiment is revisited. It is shown that the asymmetric experimental MQ sideband pattern observed for the low-C(Q) Na(2) site in Na(2)HPO4 can only be explained by considering the 23Na chemical shift anisotropy.  相似文献

Cross-polarization from a spin I=1/2 nucleus (e.g., 1H) to a spin S = 3/2 nucleus (e.g., 23Na) or a spin S = 5/2 nucleus (e.g., 27A1 or nO) in static powder samples is investigated. The results of conventional (single-quantum), three-quantum, and five-quantum cross-polarization experiments are presented and discussed. Based on a generalization of an existing theory of cross-polarization to quadrupolar nuclei, computer simulations are used to model the intensity and lineshape variations observed in cross-polarized NMR spectra as a function of the radio-frequency field strengths of the two simultaneous spin-locking pulses. These intensity and lineshape variations can also be understood in terms of the spin S = 3/2 or 5/2 nutation rates determined from experimental quadrupolar nutation spectra. The results of this study are intended as a preliminary step towards understanding single- and multiple-quantum cross-polarization to quadrupolar nuclei under MAS conditions and the application of these techniques to the MQMAS NMR experiment.  相似文献

In anticipation of using fluctuations in the nuclear dipolar and quadrupolar interaction as a probe of lithium ion motion in lithium borate glasses, the static values of these interactions were measured using a variety of echo techniques. The static quadrupolar echo spectrum of 7Li and a calculation of the dipolar interaction in crystalline Li2B4O7 (same chemical composition as the glass under study) were used to estimate the strength of the two interactions. These indicate that the dipolar and quadrupolar interactions for 6Li will be of similar size and the dipolar interaction will be dominated by the unlike spin interaction between the 6Li and the 10B, 11B spins. An appropriate theoretical model is proposed and explicit expressions for the echo amplitude are calculated in terms of the dipolar and quadrupolar second moments. This single spin model takes into account the quadrupolar interaction but treats the dipolar interaction as an effective magnetic field. Experimental results are presented which show the essential validity of the model and measurements lead to reasonable values for the dipolar and quadrupolar second moments. The relative merits of the various echo techniques are discussed.  相似文献

A molecular cluster containing a coplanar ring of iron(III) ions with spin 5/2 was investigated by Mössbauer spectroscopy. The iron spins are antiferromagnetically coupled so that the ground state has total spin S=0. Spectra in the absence of an applied magnetic field consisted of a quadrupolar doublet, the linewidth of which monotonically increased with the temperature. A quadrupolar splitting of about 0.35 mm/s was found. Calculations of the ironorbital electronic populations were carried out and the quadrupolar splitting was estimated. Its value was in agreement with the experimental one. In addition, the trend of the linewidth was explained in terms of isotropic spin fluctuations. Spectra in the presence of a 4.5 T longitudinal magnetic field were also collected. The hyperfine field was obtained from their fitting. Differences with respect to the hyperfine field obtained from susceptibility data were also interpreted in terms of spin fluctuations.  相似文献

The very broad resonances of quadrupolar (spin I > 1/2) nuclei are resolved by magic angle spinning (MAS) into a large number of spinning sidebands, each of which often remains anisotropically broadened. The quadrupolar interaction can be removed to a first-order approximation if the MAS NMR spectrum is acquired in a rotor-synchronized fashion, aliasing the spinning sidebands onto a centreband and thereby increasing the signal-to-noise ratio in the resulting, possibly second-order broadened, spectrum. We discuss the practical aspects of this rotor-synchronization in the direct (t(2)) time domain, demonstrating that the audiofrequency filters in the receiver section of the spectrometer have a significant impact on the precise timings needed in the experiment. We also introduce a novel double-quantum filtered rotor-synchronized experiment for half-integer spin quadrupolar (spin I = 3/2, 5/2, etc.) nuclei that makes use of central-transition-selective inversion pulses to both excite and reconvert double-quantum coherences and yields a simplified spectrum containing only the ST(1) (m(I) = +/-1/2 <--> +/-3/2) satellite-transition lineshapes. For spin I = 5/2 nuclei, such as (17)O and (27)Al, this spectrum may exhibit a significant resolution increase over the conventional central-transition spectrum.  相似文献

A simple pulse sequence, derived from the shaped pulse optimally exciting the central transition of a spin 3/2, can be used to selectively detect ordered sodium with a given quadrupolar coupling. The pulse sequence consists of two pulses with opposite phases and separated by a delay, called a quadrupolar jump-and-return (QJR) sequence. This QJR sequence is tested with a phantom made of sodium ions in bacteriophage and in aqueous solution and its feasibility for contrast modification based on the quadrupolar coupling is demonstrated.  相似文献

In presence of active orbital degrees of freedom, elementary excitations around a broken-symmetry state may include multipolar waves, but none of these exotic dispersive excitation branches has ever been identified. We show that quadrupolar waves constitute a major component of the dynamics of uranium dioxide in its magnetoquadrupolar ordered phase, and that many unexplained features in existing inelastic neutron scattering data, including a whole excitation branch, are associated with these propagating quadrupolar fluctuations. Our model permits us to separate the role of Jahn-Teller and superexchange mechanisms as sources of quadrupolar interactions.  相似文献

A simple approach is discussed for studying the effect of quadrupolar nuclei on the magic-angle-spinning solid-state NMR lines of spin-1/2 nuclei in the limit of large quadrupole coupling constants. Equations are derived both for the isotropic shifts and the Pake-like powder patterns for any quadrupolar spin and for arbitrary orientations of the internuclear vector with respect to the unique axis of an axially symmetric quadrupole tensor. First-order effects due to a small Zeeman perturbation on these lines are explored, as well as deviations from axial symmetry in the electric field gradient when S = 3/2 quadrupolar nuclei are involved. Spectral parameters likely to be observed in the case of coupling between 31P and 201Hg are also discussed.  相似文献

The spin dynamics of Hartmann-Hahn cross-polarization from I = 1/2 to quadrupolar S = 3/2 nuclei is investigated. A density-matrix model applicable to cases where the quadrupole frequency vQ is much larger than the rf amplitude v1S of the S spins, predicts the time development of the spin state of an isolated I, S spin pair in static situations and in three distinct cases of magic-angle-spinning speed vR. These cases are characterized as slow, intermediate, and fast, depending on the magnitude of the parameter alpha = v1S2/vQvR relative to the intermediate value of 0.4. The model predictions are supported by numerical simulations. The polarization transfer from I to S is efficient in the limits of slow and fast sample spinning. When alpha < 1, the Hartmann-Hahn condition is shifted over once or twice vR. When the spinning rate is intermediate, poor spin-locking of the quadrupolar spins prevents the accumulation of a cross-polarization signal and, in addition, depletes the spin-locked I magnetization. Experimental CP/MAS data obtained in NaOH show that the concepts developed for isolated spin pairs are also applicable to cross-polarization in a strongly coupled multi-spin system.  相似文献

Phase incremented and continuous irradiation multiple spin correlation methods are applied to spin [Formula: see text] nuclei with small quadrupole couplings such as (7)Li in LiCl and are shown to successfully produce a coherently coupled dipolar spin network. Application to the analogous Na salt shows successful spin correlation evolving at a slower rate due to the weaker homonuclear dipolar coupling strength between Na nuclei. The results are analysed using a statistical approach. Spin counting is non-trivial as not only multiple quantum coherences between spins are generated but also within the quadrupolar spin levels. Na(2)C(2)O(4) is investigated as a material with non-negligible quadrupole coupling and it is in this limit that the spin correlation techniques are found to break down.  相似文献

We present several new methods that allow to obtain through-space 2D HETCOR spectra between spin-1/2 and half-integer quadrupolar nuclei in the solid state. These methods use the rotary-resonance concept to create hetero-nuclear coherences through the dipolar interaction instead of scalar coupling into the HMQC and refocused INEPT experiments for spin n/2 (n>1). In opposite to those based on the cross-polarization transfer to quadrupolar nuclei, the methods are very robust and easy to set-up.  相似文献
