The intensity jnd is often assumed to depend on the slope of the loudness function. One way to test this assumption is to measure the jnd for a sound that falls on distinctly different loudness functions. Two such functions were generated by presenting a 1000-Hz tone in narrow-band noise (925-1080 Hz) set at 70 dB SPL and in wideband noise (75-9600 Hz) set at 80 dB SPL. Over a range from near threshold to about 75 dB SPL, the loudness function for the tone is much steeper in the narrow-band noise than in the wideband noise. At 72 dB SPL, where the two loudness curves cross, the tone's jnd was measured in each noise by a block up-down two-interval forced-choice procedure. Despite the differences in slope (and in sensation level), the jnd (delta I/I) is nearly the same in the two noises, 0.22 in narrow-band noise and 0.20 in wideband noise. The mean value of 0.21 is close to the value of 0.25 interpolated from Jesteadt et al. [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 61, 169-176 (1977)] for a 1000-Hz tone that had the same loudness in quiet as did our 72-dB tone in noise, but lay on a loudness function with a much lower slope. These and other data demonstrate that intensity discrimination for pure tones is unrelated to the slope of the loudness function.  相似文献

The influence of the degree of envelope modulation and periodicity on the loudness and effectiveness of sounds as forward maskers was investigated. In the first experiment, listeners matched the loudness of complex tones and noise. The tones had a fundamental frequency (F0) of 62.5 or 250 Hz and were filtered into a frequency range from the 10th harmonic to 5000 Hz. The Gaussian noise was filtered in the same way. The components of the complex tones were added either in cosine phase (CPH), giving a large crest factor, or in random phase (RPH), giving a smaller crest factor. For each F0, subjects matched the loudness between all possible stimulus pairs. Six different levels of the fixed stimulus were used, ranging from about 30 dB SPL to about 80 dB SPL in 10-dB steps. Results showed that, at a given overall level, the CPH and the RPH tones were louder than the noise, and that the CPH tone was louder than the RPH tone. The difference in loudness was larger at medium than at low levels and was only slightly reduced by the addition of a noise intended to mask combination tones. The differences in loudness were slightly smaller for the higher than for the lower F0. In the second experiment, the stimuli with the lower F0s were used as forward maskers of a 20-ms sinusoid, presented at various frequencies within the spectral range of the maskers. Results showed that the CPH tone was the least effective forward masker, even though it was the loudest. The differences in effectiveness as forward maskers depended on masker level and signal frequency; in order to produce equal masking, the level of the CPH tone had to be up to 35 dB above that of the RPH tone and the noise. The implications of these results for models of loudness are discussed and a model is presented based on neural activity patterns in the auditory nerve; this predicts the general pattern of loudness matches. It is suggested that the effects observed in the experiments may have been influenced by two factors: cochlear compression and suppression.  相似文献

Loudness of interaurally correlated narrow- and broadband noises was investigated using a loudness estimation paradigm (with two anchors) presented via headphones. Throughout the experiments (most performed by 12 subjects), the results from both anchors agreed very well. In the first experiment, third-octave-band noises centered around 250, 710, or 2000 Hz, as well as broadband red (-10 dB/oct), pink (-3 dB/oct), and blue (+10 dB/oct) noises, with interaural level differences of delta L = 0, 4, 10, 20, and infinity dB, were presented as test signals while the same sound presented monaurally or diotically served as anchor. The binaurally summed loudness at delta L = 0 dB was found to be larger than the loudness of a monaural signal of the same SPL by a factor of about 1.5 and decreased with increasing delta L. No dependence of this behavior on frequency, level, or spectral shape was found. In a second experiment, abutting frequency bands of varying width were alternately presented to the subject's left and right ears with the overall spectrum encompassing the whole audio range. The binaural loudness was larger for fewer but broader frequency bands. In a third experiment, uniform exciting noise was switched between the two ears at various speeds. Increasing the switching frequency gave rise to an increase in loudness of about 20%. All results are discussed from the viewpoint of the use of the standardized loudness meter. At this point, there is no evidence that any significant systematic errors due to single-channel evaluation (in contrast to the human two-channel processing) are made by measuring loudness using these meters.  相似文献

This paper examines how the difference limen for level, delta L, is affected by stimulus bandwidth and variability. The delta L's were measured in three normal listeners using an adaptive two-interval, forced-choice procedure. The 30-ms stimuli were a 3-kHz tone and nine noise bands with half-power bandwidths ranging from 50 Hz-12 kHz. Except for the 12-kHz bandwidth, which was a low-pass noise, the noise bands were centered at 3 kHz. The delta L's were measured for both frozen and random noises presented at 30, 60, or 90 dB SPL overall. For frozen noises, the same sample of noise was presented throughout a block of 50 trials; for the random noises, different samples of noise were used in each interval of the trials. Results show that the delta L's are higher for random than for frozen noises at narrow bandwidths, but not at wide bandwidths. The delta L's for frozen narrow-band noises decrease with increasing level and are similar to those for the pure tone, whereas the delta L's for wideband noises are only slightly smaller at 90 than at 30 dB SPL. An unexpected finding is that the delta L's are larger at 60 than at 30 dB SPL for both frozen and random noises with bandwidths greater than one critical band. The effect of bandwidth varies with level: The delta L's decrease with increasing bandwidth at low levels, but are nearly independent of bandwidth at 90 dB SPL. The interaction of bandwidth and level is consistent with the multiband excitation-pattern model, but the nonmonotonic behavior of delta L as a function of level suggests modifications to the model.  相似文献

Loudness was measured as a function of signal bandwidth for 10-, 100-, and 1000-ms-long signals. The test and reference signals were bandpass-filtered noise spectrally centered at 2 kHz. The bandwidth of the test signal was varied from 200 to 6400 Hz. The reference signal had a bandwidth of 3200 Hz. The reference levels were 45, 55, and 65 dB SPL. The level to produce equal loudness was measured with an adaptive, two-interval, two-alternative forced-choice procedure. A loudness matching procedure was used, where the tracks for all signal pairs to be compared were interleaved. Mean results for nine normal-hearing subjects showed that the magnitude of spectral loudness summation depends on signal duration. For all reference levels, a 6- to 8-dB larger level difference between equally loud signals with the smallest (delta f = 200 Hz) and largest (delta f = 6400 Hz) bandwidth is found for 10-ms-long signals than for the 1000-ms-long signals. The duration effect slightly decreases with increasing reference loudness. As a consequence, loudness models should include a duration-dependent compression stage. Alternatively, if a fixed loudness ratio between signals of different duration is assumed, this loudness ratio should depend on the signal spectrum.  相似文献

Recent research on loudness has focused on contextual effects on loudness, both assimilation and recalibration. The current experiments examined loudness recalibration [Marks, J. Exp. Psychol. 20, 382-396 (1994)]. In the first experiment, an adaptive tracking procedure was used to measure loudness recalibration as a function of standard- and recalibration-tone level. The standard-tone frequencies were 500 and 2500 Hz and the levels were 80-, 70-, 60-, and 40-dB SPL, and threshold. Seventeen dB of loudness recalibration was obtained (combined over both frequencies) in the 60-dB SPL condition. This amount of loudness recalibration, while substantial, is still less than that obtained by Marks (22 dB), using the method of paired comparisons. The second experiment sought to duplicate Marks' earlier experiment [Marks, J. Exp. Psychol. 20, 382-396 (1994), experiment 2]. The results of this experiment (21 dB) were almost identical to those obtained by Marks. The results of experiment 1 indicate that loudness recalibration is maximum when the recalibration tone is moderately louder than the subsequent standard tones. Relatively little loudness recalibration is exhibited when the standard-tone level equals the recalibration-tone level. In addition, there is no loudness recalibration at threshold. The tracking procedure also identified that the onset of loudness recalibration is very rapid. The difference between the maximum loudness recalibration obtained at each frequency (11 dB at 500 Hz, 6 dB at 2500 Hz) suggests that loudness recalibration is dependent upon the frequency of the standard tone.  相似文献

Loudness matches were obtained between unmodulated carriers and carriers that were amplitude modulated either periodically (rates between 2 and 32 Hz, modulation sinusoidal either on a linear amplitude scale or on a dB scale; the latter is called dB modulation) or with the envelope of the speech of a single talker. The carrier was a 4-kHz sinusoid, white noise, or speech-shaped noise. Both normally hearing subjects and subjects with cochlear hearing loss were tested. Results were expressed as the root-mean-square (rms) level of the modulated carrier minus the level of the unmodulated carrier at the point of equal loudness. If this difference is positive, this indicates that the modulated carrier has a higher rms level at the point of equal loudness. For normally hearing subjects, the results show: (1) For a 4000-Hz sinusoidal carrier, the difference was slightly positive (averaging about 0.7 dB). There was no significant effect of modulation rate or level over the range 20-80 dB SL. (2) For a speech-shaped noise or white noise carrier, the difference was close to zero, although for large modulation depths it tended to be negative. There was no clear effect of level (over the range 35-75 dB SPL) or modulation rate. For the hearing-impaired subjects, the differences were small, but tended to be slightly negative for both the 4000-Hz carrier and the noise carriers, when the modulation rate was above 2 Hz. Again, there was no clear effect of overall level. However, for dB modulation, the differences became more negative with increasing modulation depth. For modulation rates in the range 4-32 Hz, the results could be fitted reasonably well using the assumption that the loudness of modulated sounds is based on the rms value of the time-varying intensity of the response of the basilar membrane (taking into account the compression that occurs in the normal cochlea). The implications of the results for the fitting of multi-band compression hearing aids and for the design of loudness meters are discussed.  相似文献

Pipe organ sounds, as judged by ear, tend to remain constant across different locations in an auditorium, yet the SPL of line spectra may vary by a maximum of 26 dB (mean 8.98 dB, s.d. 2.5), and the overall level may vary, typically, 10 to 12 dB from location to location. However, organs are designed, listened to, and regulated using the psychophysical units of loudness and timbre, and it is possible that the heard sound constancy exists at the psychophysical level. The present work recorded the sound of the C's and G's of pipe organ stops at three different locations in a church. The sound pressure levels were transformed to loudness. Similarity of loudness across the locations was measured two ways. First, the bass to treble distribution of loudness across the compass was measured using cross-correlation functions across pairs of locations. Second, the degree of similarity of loudness at the different locations was quantified by calculating ratios of loudness between the different locations. By these measures, the bass to treble loudness distribution and absolute loudness of the reeds were found to be nearly identical at the three locations. Two psychophysical processes were shown to be responsible for the loudness constancy. The first depended upon the power summation of harmonics within each third octave band above band 9 which contain two or more harmonics. The power summation of these harmonics greatly reduced the effect of SPL variability of the line spectra contained within these higher numbered bands. The second depended upon interharmonic loudness summation and upward masking of the first six harmonics. Greater loudness variability at the different locations was found after transforming the SPL measurements of two 8-ft diapasons to loudness compared with the reeds. The larger loudness variability was due to the smaller number of harmonics above the third of the diapasons compared with the reeds. The psychoacoustic measures indicate what a listener will hear as he/she moves among the locations.  相似文献

Thresholds were measured for the detection of 20-ms sinusoids, with frequencies 500, 4000, or 6500 Hz, presented in bursts of bandpass noise of the same duration and centered around the signal frequency. A range of noise levels from 35 to 80 dB SPL was used. Noise at different center frequencies was equated in terms of the total noise power in an assumed auditory filter centered on the signal frequency. Thresholds were expressed as the signal levels, relative to these noise levels, necessary for subjects to achieve 71% correct. For 500-Hz signals, thresholds were about 5 dB regardless of noise level. For 6500-Hz signals, thresholds reached a maximum of 14 dB at intermediate noise levels of 55-65 dB SPL. For 4000-Hz signals, a maximum threshold of 10 dB was observed for noise levels of 45-55 dB SPL. When the bandpass noises were presented continuously, however, thresholds for 6500-Hz, 20-ms signals remained low (about 1 dB) and constant across level. These results are similar to those obtained for the intensity discrimination of brief tones in bandstop noise [R. P. Carlyon and B. C. J. Moore, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 76, 1369-1376 (1984); R. P. This experiment examined the partial masking of periodic complex tones by a background of noise, and vice versa. The tones had a fundamental frequency (F0) of 62.5 or 250 Hz, and components were added in either cosine phase (CPH) or random phase (RPH). The tones and the noise were bandpass filtered into the same frequency region, from the tenth harmonic up to 5 kHz. The target alone was alternated with the target and the background; for the mixture, the background and target were either gated together, or the background was turned on 400 ms before, and off 200 ms after, the target. Subjects had to adjust the level of either the target alone or the target in the background so as to match the loudness of the target in the two intervals. The overall level of the background was 50 dB SPL, and loudness matches were obtained for several fixed levels of the target alone or in the background. The resulting loudness-matching functions showed clear asymmetry of partial masking. For a given target-to-background ratio, the partial loudness of a complex tone in a noise background was lower than the partial loudness of a noise in a complex tone background. Expressed as the target-to-background ratio required to achieve a given loudness, the asymmetry typically amounted to 12-16 dB. When the F0 of the complex tone was 62.5 Hz, the asymmetry of partial masking was greater for CPH than for RPH. When the F0 was 250 Hz, the asymmetry was greater for RPH than for CPH. Masked thresholds showed the same pattern as for partial masking for both F0's. Onset asynchrony had some effect on the loudness matching data when the target was just above its masked threshold, but did not significantly affect the level at which the target in the background reached its unmasked loudness. The results are interpreted in terms of the temporal structure of the stimuli.  相似文献

Effects of sound level on auditory cortical activation are seen in neuroimaging data. However, factors such as the cortical response to the intense ambient scanner noise and to the bandwidth of the acoustic stimuli will both confound precise quantification and interpretation of such sound-level effects. The present study used temporally "sparse" imaging to reduce effects of scanner noise. To achieve control for stimulus bandwidth, three schemes were compared for sound-level matching across bandwidth: component level, root-mean-square power and loudness. The calculation of the loudness match was based on the model reported by Moore and Glasberg [Acta Acust. 82, 335-345 (1996)]. Ten normally hearing volunteers were scanned using functional magnetic resonance imaging (tMRI) while listening to a 300-Hz tone presented at six different sound levels between 66 and 91 dB SPL and a harmonic-complex tone (F0= 186 Hz) presented at 65 and 85 dB SPL. This range of sound levels encompassed all three bases of sound-level matching. Activation in the superior temporal gyrus, induced by each of the eight tone conditions relative to a quiet baseline condition, was quantified as to extent and magnitude. Sound level had a small, but significant, effect on the extent of activation for the pure tone, but not for the harmonic-complex tone, while it had a significant effect on the response magnitude for both types of stimulus. Response magnitude increased linearly as a function of sound level for the full range of levels for the pure tone. The harmonic-complex tone produced greater activation than the pure tone, irrespective of the matching scheme for sound level, indicating that bandwidth had a greater effect on the pattern of auditory activation than sound level. Nevertheless, when the data were collapsed across stimulus class, extent and magnitude were significantly correlated with the loudness scale (measured in phons), but not with the intensity scale (measured in SPL). We therefore recommend the loudness formula as the most appropriate basis of matching sound level to control for loudness effects when cortical responses to other stimulus attributes, such as stimulus class, are the principal concern.  相似文献

It is well known that a tone presented binaurally is louder than the same tone presented monaurally. It is less clear how this loudness ratio changes as a function of level. The present experiment was designed to directly test the Binaural Equal-Loudness-Ratio hypothesis (BELRH), which states that the loudness ratio between equal-SPL monaural and binaural tones is independent of SPL. If true, the BELRH implies that monaural and binaural loudness functions are parallel when plotted on a log scale. Cross-modality matches between string length and loudness were used to directly measure binaural and monaural loudness functions for nine normal listeners. Stimuli were 1-kHz 200-ms tones ranging in level from 5 dB SL to 100 dB SPL. A two-way ANOVA showed significant effects of level and mode (binaural or monaural) on loudness, but no interaction between the level and mode. Consequently, no significant variations were found in the binaural-to-monaural loudness ratio across the range of levels tested. This finding supports the BELRH. In addition, the present data were found to closely match loudness functions derived from binaural level differences for equal loudness using the model proposed by Whilby et al. [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 119, 3931-3939 (2006)].  相似文献

Thresholds for the detection of harmonic complex tones in noise were measured as a function of masker level. The rms level of the masker ranged from 40 to 70 dB SPL in 10-dB steps. The tones had a fundamental frequency (F0) of 62.5 or 250 Hz, and components were added in either cosine or random phase. The complex tones and the noise were bandpass filtered into the same frequency region, from the tenth harmonic up to 5 kHz. In a different condition, the roles of masker and signal were reversed, keeping all other parameters the same; subjects had to detect the noise in the presence of a harmonic tone masker. In both conditions, the masker was either gated synchronously with the 700-ms signal, or it started 400 ms before and stopped 200 ms after the signal. The results showed a large asymmetry in the effectiveness of masking between the tones and noise. Even though signal and masker had the same bandwidth, the noise was a more effective masker than the complex tone. The degree of asymmetry depended on F0, component phase, and the level of the masker. The maximum difference between masked thresholds for tone and noise was about 28 dB; this occurred when the F0 was 62.5 Hz, the components were in cosine phase, and the masker level was 70 dB SPL. In most conditions, the growth-of-masking functions had slopes close to 1 (on a dB versus dB scale). However, for the cosine-phase tone masker with an F0 of 62.5 Hz, a 10-dB increase in masker level led to an increase in masked threshold of the noise of only 3.7 dB, on average. We suggest that the results for this condition are strongly affected by the active mechanism in the cochlea.  相似文献

Forward-masked intensity-difference limens (DLs) for pure-tone standards presented at low, medium, and high levels were obtained for a wide range of masker-standard level differences. At a standard level of 25 dB SPL, the masker had a significant effect on intensity resolution, and the data showed a mid-difference hump: The DL elevation was greater at intermediate than at large masker-standard level differences. These results support the hypothesis that the effect of a forward masker on intensity resolution is modulated by the similarity between the masker and the standard. For a given masker-standard level difference, the effect of the masker on the DL was larger for a 55-dB SPL than for the 25-dB SPL standard, providing new support for a midlevel hump. To examine whether the masker-induced DL elevations are related to masker-induced loudness changes [R. P. Carlyon and H. A. Beveridge, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 93, 2886-2895 (1993)], the effect of the masker on target loudness was measured for the same listeners. Loudness enhancement followed a mid-difference hump pattern at both the low and the intermediate target level. The correlation between loudness changes and DL elevations was significant, but several aspects of the data are incompatible with the predicted one-on-one relation between the two effects.  相似文献

The noise from consumer electric clocks was studied to evaluate loudness estimating procedures. Eight different clock noises were tape recorded for presentation to a panel of people for loudness judgments. An electronic switch enabled the recorded clock noise and a 1000 Hz tone to be presented alternately via earphones for 12-sec durations with 12-sec silences between signals. The subjects adjusted the 1000 Hz tone to match the loudness of the clock noise. It was determined that Stevens' MARK VI procedure generally underestimates the observed loudness, but is usually less than 10 phons in error. It is possible that biasing effects had some influence on this result. If ranking on a relative loudness scale is all that is desired, dB(A) measurements will suffice. However, the dB(A) measurements do underestimate the differences in loudness between the quietest and loudest clocks.  相似文献

Previous research has demonstrated reduced speech recognition when speech is presented at higher-than-normal levels (e.g., above conversational speech levels), particularly in the presence of speech-shaped background noise. Persons with hearing loss frequently listen to speech-in-noise at these levels through hearing aids, which incorporate multiple-channel, wide dynamic range compression. This study examined the interactive effects of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), speech presentation level, and compression ratio on consonant recognition in noise. Nine subjects with normal hearing identified CV and VC nonsense syllables in a speech-shaped noise at two SNRs (0 and +6 dB), three presentation levels (65, 80, and 95 dB SPL) and four compression ratios (1:1, 2:1, 4:1, and 6:1). Stimuli were processed through a simulated three-channel, fast-acting, wide dynamic range compression hearing aid. Consonant recognition performance decreased as compression ratio increased and presentation level increased. Interaction effects were noted between SNR and compression ratio, as well as between presentation level and compression ratio. Performance decrements due to increases in compression ratio were larger at the better (+6 dB) SNR and at the lowest (65 dB SPL) presentation level. At higher levels (95 dB SPL), such as those experienced by persons with hearing loss, increasing compression ratio did not significantly affect speech intelligibility.  相似文献

Two experiments were performed that evaluated the effects of ipsilateral-direct broadband noise maskers on the gerbil brain-stem auditory-evoked response (BAER) to click stimuli. In experiment 1, clicks were presented at 27 Hz at levels including 70, 80, 90, and 100 dB pSPL. Noise conditions included a no-noise control, and included noise levels varying in 10-dB increments from 20 dB SPL to a maximum noise level of 50, 60, 70, and 80 dB SPL for click levels of 70, 80, 90, and 100 dB pSPL, respectively. Gerbil BAER peaks were labeled with small roman numerals to distinguish them from human BAER peaks. The dependent variables included waves i and v latencies and amplitudes. Peak latencies increased and peak amplitudes decreased with decreasing click level and increasing noise level. To a first approximation, peak latencies and amplitudes showed changes with increasing noise level that were similar across click level. With increasing click level, there was little or no effect on the i-v interval. There was an increase in the i-v interval with increasing noise level. In experiment 2, click level was held constant at 90 dB pSPL, and click rates included 15, 40, 65, and 90 Hz. For each click rate, noise conditions included a no-noise control, and noise levels included 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 dB SPL. With increasing click rate and noise level, there was an increase in peak latencies, an increase in the i-v interval, and a decrease in peak amplitudes. The magnitude of peak latency and amplitude shifts with increasing click rate was dependent on noise level. Specifically, the magnitude of rate-dependent changes decreased with increasing level of broadband noise. These data are compared to human BAER experiments, and are found to be in fundamental agreement.  相似文献

Internal noise generated by hearing-aid circuits can be audible and objectionable to aid users, and may lead to the rejection of hearing aids. Two expansion algorithms were developed to suppress internal noise below a threshold level. The multiple-channel algorithm's expansion thresholds followed the 55-dB SPL long-term average speech spectrum, while the single-channel algorithm suppressed sounds below 45 dBA. With the recommended settings in static conditions, the single-channel algorithm provided lower noise levels, which were perceived as quieter by most normal-hearing participants. However, in dynamic conditions "pumping" noises were more noticeable with the single-channel algorithm. For impaired-hearing listeners fitted with the ADRO amplification strategy, both algorithms maintained speech understanding for words in sentences presented at 55 dB SPL in quiet (99.3% correct). Mean sentence reception thresholds in quiet were 39.4, 40.7, and 41.8 dB SPL without noise suppression, and with the single- and multiple-channel algorithms, respectively. The increase in the sentence reception threshold was statistically significant for the multiple-channel algorithm, but not the single-channel algorithm. Thus, both algorithms suppressed noise without affecting the intelligibility of speech presented at 55 dB SPL, with the single-channel algorithm providing marginally greater noise suppression in static conditions, and the multiple-channel algorithm avoiding pumping noises.  相似文献

针对船用PN10DN32三通调节阀噪声声压频谱、声指向性等声学特性规律不明确,噪声声压级是否满足使用要求的问题,基于流-固耦合理论,同时考虑流-固耦合面及流体域内的脉动声学激励源,开展阀门噪声数值模拟研究。分别对三通调节阀在80%及60%开度阀外1 m处的噪声进行数值模拟,分析研究噪声声压频谱特性及声指向性规律。结果表明:80%及60%开度下的噪声声压级分别为49.14 dB(A)、50.79 dB(A),均小于60 d B(A)的噪声限制,满足使用要求。该文为船用三通调节阀噪声数值模拟提供了理论及方法参考。  相似文献

Temporal modulation transfer functions were obtained using sinusoidal carriers for four normally hearing subjects and three subjects with mild to moderate cochlear hearing loss. Carrier frequencies were 1000, 2000 and 5000 Hz, and modulation frequencies ranged from 10 to 640 Hz in one-octave steps. The normally hearing subjects were tested using levels of 30 and 80 dB SPL. For the higher level, modulation detection thresholds varied only slightly with modulation frequency for frequencies up to 80 Hz, but decreased for high modulation frequencies. The decrease can be attributed to the detection of spectral sidebands. For the lower level, thresholds varied little with modulation frequency for all three carrier frequencies. The absence of a decrease in the threshold for large modulation frequencies can be explained by the low sensation level of the spectral sidebands. The hearing-impaired subjects were tested at 80 dB SPL, except for two cases where the absolute threshold at the carrier frequency was greater than 70 dB SPL; in these cases a level of 90 dB was used. The results were consistent with the idea that spectral sidebands were less detectable for the hearing-impaired than for the normally hearing subjects. For the two lower carrier frequencies, there were no large decreases in threshold with increasing modulation frequency, and where decreases did occur, this happened only between 320 and 640 Hz. For the 5000-Hz carrier, thresholds were roughly constant for modulation frequencies from 10 to 80 or 160 Hz, and then increased monotonically, becoming unmeasurable at 640 Hz. The results for this carrier may reflect "pure" effects of temporal resolution, without any influence from the detection of spectral sidebands. The results suggest that temporal resolution for deterministic stimuli is similar for normally hearing and hearing-impaired listeners.  相似文献
