In this paper the equations governing small amplitude motions in a rotating transversely isotropic initially stressed elastic solid are derived, both for compressible and incompressible linearly elastic materials. The equations are first applied to study the effects of initial stress and rotation on the speed of homogeneous plane waves propagating in a configuration with uniform initial stress. The general forms of the constitutive law, stresses and the elasticity tensor are derived within the finite deformation context and then summarized for the considered transversely isotropic material with initial stress in terms of invariants, following which they are specialized for linear elastic response and, for an incompressible material, to the case of plane strain, which involves considerable simplification. The equations for two-dimensional motions in the considered plane are then applied to the study of Rayleigh waves in a rotating half-space with the initial stress parallel to its boundary and the preferred direction of transverse isotropy either parallel to or normal to the boundary within the sagittal plane. The secular equation governing the wave speed is then derived for a general strain–energy function in the plane strain specialization, which involves only two material parameters. The results are illustrated graphically, first by showing how the wave speed depends on the material parameters and the rotation without specifying the constitutive law and, second, for a simple material model to highlight the effects of the rotation and initial stress on the surface wave speed.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the propagation of Rayleigh surface waves in a functionally graded isotropic thermoelastic half-space, in which all thermoelastic characteristic parameters exponentially change along the depth direction. The propagation condition is established in the form of a bicubic equation whose coefficients are complex numbers while the analytical solutions (eigensolutions) of the thermoelastodynamic system are explicitly obtained in terms of the characteristic solutions. The concerned solution of the Rayleigh surface wave problem is subsequently expressed as a linear combination of the three eigensolutions while the secular equation is established in an implicit form. The explicit secular equation is written when an isotropic and homogeneous thermoelastic half-space is considered and some numerical simulations are given for a specific material.  相似文献

In this paper, in a development of the static theory derived by Steigmann and Ogden (Proc. Roy. Soc. London A 453 (1997) 853), we establish the equations of motion for a non-linearly elastic body in plane strain with an elastic surface coating on part or all of its boundary. The equations of (linearized) incremental motions superposed on a finite static deformation are then obtained and applied to the problem of (time-harmonic) surface wave propagation on a pre-stressed incompressible isotropic elastic half-space with a thin coating on its plane boundary. The secular equation for (dispersive) wave speeds is then obtained in respect of a general form of incompressible isotropic elastic strain-energy function for the bulk material and a general energy function for the coating material. Specialization of the form of strain-energy function enables the secular equation to be cast as a quartic equation and we therefore focus on this for illustrative purposes. An explicit form for the secular equation is thereby obtained. This involves a number of material parameters, including residual stress and moment in the properties of the coating. It is shown how this equation relates to previous work on waves in a half-space with an overlying thin layer set in the classical theory of isotropic elasticity and, in particular, the significant effect of omission of the rotatory inertia term, even at small wave numbers, is emphasized. Corresponding results for a membrane-type coating, for which the bending moment, inertia and residual moment terms are absent, are also obtained. Asymptotic formulas for the wave speed at large wave number (high frequency) are derived and it is shown how these results influence the character of the wave speed throughout the range of wave number values. A bifurcation criterion is obtained from the secular equation by setting the wave speed to zero, thereby generalizing the bifurcation results of Steigmann and Ogden (Proc. Roy. Soc. London A 453 (1997) 853) to the situation in which residual stress and moment are present in the coating. Numerical results which show the dependence of the wave speed on the various material parameters and the finite deformation are then described graphically. In particular, features which differ from those arising in the classical theory are highlighted.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the propagation of Rayleigh surface waves in an exponentially graded half-space made of an isotropic Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic material. Here we take into account the effect of the viscoelastic dissipation energy upon the corresponding wave solutions. As a consequence we introduce the damped in time wave solutions and then we treat the Rayleigh surface wave problem in terms of such solutions. The explicit form of the secular equation is obtained in terms of the wave speed and the viscoelastic inhomogeneous profile. Furthermore, we use numerical methods and computations to solve the secular equation for some special homogeneous materials. The results sustain the idea, existent in literature on the argument, that there is possible to have more than one surface wave for the Rayleigh wave problem.  相似文献

The present article is devoted to investigate the propagation of elasto-thermodiffusive (ETNP) surface waves in a homogeneous isotropic, thermally conducting semiconductor material of half-space with relaxation of heat and charge carrier fields. The secular equation, a more general functional relation, that governs the propagation of elasto-thermodiffusive (ETNP) surface waves in homogeneous isotropic, thermoelastic semiconductor material halfspace with relaxation of heat and charge carrier fields has been derived by solving a system of coupled partial differential equations. A hybrid numerical technique consisting of Descartes algorithm for solving complex polynomial characteristic equation along with functional iteration scheme has been successfully used to solve the secular equation in order to obtain dispersion curves, attenuation coefficient and specific loss factor of energy dissipation for p-type germanium (Ge) semiconductor. Some particular forms of the general secular equation governing the propagation of elasto-thermodiffusive (ETN/ETP), thermoelastic (ET), elastodiffusive (EP/EN) and thermodiffusive (TP/TN) surface waves have been also deduced and discussed. In order to illustrate the analytical development, the numerical solution of the secular equation and other relevant relations under different situations is also carried out for Ge semiconductor materials to characterize the elasto-thermodiffusive (ETP) and thermodiffusive (TP) surface waves. The computer simulated results have been presented graphically in respect of the dispersion curves, attenuation coefficient and specific loss factor.  相似文献

The nonlinear elastic response of a class of materials for which the deformation is subject to an internal material constraint described in experiments by James F. Bell on the finite deformation of a variety of metals is investigated. The purely kinematical consequences of the Bell constraint are discussed, and restrictions on the full range of compatible deformations are presented in geometrical terms. Then various forms of the constitutive equation relating the stress and stretch tensors for an isotropic elastic Bell material are presented. Inequalities on the mechanical response functions are introduced. The importance of these in applications is demonstrated in several examples throughout the paper. This paper focuses on homogeneous deformations. In a simple illustration of the theory, a generalized form of Bell's empirical rule for uniaxial loading is derived, and some peculiarities in the response under all-around compressive loading are discussed. General formulae for universal relations possible in an isotropic elastic, Bell constrained material are presented. A simple method for the determination of the left stretch tensor for essentially plane problems is illustrated in the solution of the problem of pure shear of a materially uniform rectangular block. A general formula which includes the empirical rule found in pure shear experiments by Bell is derived as a special case. The whole apparatus is then applied in the solution of the general problem of a homogeneous simple shear superimposed on a uniform triaxial stretch; and the great variety of results possible in an isotropic, elastic Bell material is illustrated. The problem of the finite torsion and extension of a thin-walled cylindrical tube is investigated. The results are shown to be consistent with Bell's data for which the rigid body rotation is found to be quite small compared with the gross deformation of the tube. Several universal formulas relating various kinds of stress components to the deformation independently of the material response functions are derived, including a universal rule relating the axial force to the torque.Constitutive equations for hyperelastic Bell materials are derived. The empirical work function studied by Bell is introduced; and a new constitutive equation is derived, which we name Bell's law. On the basis of this law, we then derive exactly Bell's parabolic laws for uniaxial loading and for pure shear. Also, form Bell's law, a simple constitutive equation relating Bell's deviatoric stress tensor to his finite deviatoric strain tensor is obtained. We thereby derive Bell's invariant parabolic law relating the deviatoric stress intensity to the corresponding strain intensity; and, finally, Bell's fundamental law for the work function expressed in these terms is recovered. This rule is the foundation for all of Bell's own theoretical study of the isotropic materials cataloged in his finite strain experiments on metals, all consistent with the internal material constraint studied here.  相似文献

The consideration of higher-order gradient effects in a classical elastodynamic problem is explored in this paper. The problem is the anti-plane shear analogue of the well-known Lamb's problem. It involves the time-harmonic loading of a half-space by a single concentrated anti-plane shear line force applied on the half-space surface. The classical solution of this problem based on standard linear elasticity was first given by J.D. Achenbach and predicts a logarithmically unbounded displacement at the point of application of the load. The latter formulation involves a Helmholtz equation for the out-of-plane displacement subjected to a traction boundary condition. Here, the generalized continuum theory of gradient elasticity with surface energy leads to a fourth-order PDE under traction and double-traction boundary conditions. This theory assumes a form of the strain-energy density containing, in addition to the standard linear-elasticity terms, strain-gradient and surface-energy terms. The present solution, in some contrast with the classical one, predicts bounded displacements everywhere. This may have important implications for more general contact problems and the Boundary-Integral-Equation Method.  相似文献

Small amplitude inhomogeneous plane waves are studied as they propagate on the free surface of a predeformed semi-infinite body made of Bell constrained material. The predeformation corresponds to a finite static pure homogeneous strain. The surface wave propagates in a principal direction of strain and is attenuated in another principal direction, orthogonal to the free surface. For these waves, the secular equation giving the speed of propagation is established by the method of first integrals. This equation is not the same as the secular equation for incompressible half-spaces, even though the Bell constraint and the incompressibility constraint coincide in the isotropic infinitesimal limit.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the axisymmetric elastostatic problem related to the rotation of a rigid punch which is bonded to the surface of a nonhomogeneous half-space. The half-space is composed of an isotropic homogeneous coating in the form of layer, which is attached to the functionally graded half-space. The shear modulus of the FGM is assumed to vary in the direction of axis Oz normal to the boundary as μ1(z) = μ0(1 + αz)β, where μ0, α, β are positive constants. The punch undergoes rotation due to the action of the internal loads. By using Hankel's integral transforms, the mixed boundary value problem is reduced to dual integral equations, and next, to a Fredholm's integral equation of the second kind, which is solved numerically for the case of β = 2. The final results show the effect of non-homogeneity on the shear stresses and an unknown moment of punch rotation.  相似文献

The propagation of Love waves along the boundary between a half-space and a layer of different pre-stressed material is examined for incompressible isotropic elastic materials. The secular equation is obtained for a general strain-energy function and analysed for particular deformations and materials. For the neo-Hookean strain-energy function, numerical results are obtained to illustrate the dependence of the wavespeed on the wave number and on the deformation.  相似文献

In this paper we analyze the behavior of plane harmonic waves and Rayleigh waves in a linear thermoelastic material with voids. We take into account the damped effects of the thermal field upon the propagation waves. Consequently, the propagation condition is established in the form of an algebraic equation of 9th degree whose coefficients are complex numbers while the eigensolutions of the thermoelastodynamic with voids system are explicitly obtained in terms of the characteristic solutions. We show that the transverse waves are undamped in time and they are not influenced by the thermal and porous effects while the longitudinal waves are all damped in time and they are coupled with the thermal and porous effects. The related solution of the Rayleigh surface wave problem is expressed as a linear combination of the eigensolutions in concern. The secular equation is established in an implicit form and afterwards an explicit form is written for an isotropic and homogeneous thermoelastic with voids half-space. Furthermore, we use the numerical methods and computations to solve the secular equation for a specific material.  相似文献

This paper presents analytical Green’s function solutions for an isotropic elastic half-space subject to anti-plane shear deformation. The boundary of the half-space is modeled as a material surface, for which the Gurtin–Murdoch theory for surface elasticity is employed. By using Fourier cosine transform, analytical solutions for a point force applied both in the interior or on the boundary of the half-space are derived in terms of two particular integrals. Through simple numerical examples, it is shown that the surface elasticity has an important influence on the elastic field in the half-space. The present Green’s functions can be used in boundary element method analysis of more complicated problems.  相似文献

The paper addresses a plane problem: a concentrated force acts on a plate resting on an elastic half-space with homogeneous prestrain. The equations of motion of the plate incorporate shear and rotary inertia. The half-space is assumed to be incompressible and isotropic in the natural state. The elastic potential is given in general form and is only specified for numerical purposes. The dependence of the critical velocity of the load and the stress-strain state on the prestresses is analyzed for different ratios between the stiffnesses of the layer and half-space and different contact conditions. The calculations are carried out for a half-space with Bartenev-Khazanovich potential __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 44, No. 3, pp. 36–54, March 2008.  相似文献

Shear measurement using strain gages under large deformation and rotation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The measurement of shear strain under finite deformation and large rotation by using electrical-resistance metallic foil strain gages is studied both analytically and experimentally. Equations for calculating shear strain and axial and circumferential stretches are derived based on the kinematics of general tension-torsion deformation mode. These equations are applied to analyzing pure torsion experimental data. Comparison is made between results obtained with strain gages and a rotary transducer. It is shown that, in case of large rotation, one simple equation can be used to calculate the shear strain up to 30 percent with adequate accuracy.  相似文献

The paper is concerned with the propagation of Rayleigh waves in an elastic half-space with impedance boundary conditions. The half-space is assumed to be orthotropic and monoclinic with the symmetry plane x3=0x3=0. The main aim of the paper is to derive explicit secular equations of the wave. For the orthotropic case, the secular equation is obtained by employing the traditional approach. It is an irrational equation. From this equation, a new version of the secular equation for isotropic materials is derived. For the monoclinic case, the method of polarization vector is used for deriving the secular equation and it is an algebraic equation of eighth-order. When the impedance parameters vanish, this equation coincides with the secular equation of Rayleigh waves with traction-free boundary conditions.  相似文献

The Stroh formalism for surface waves in an anisotropic elastic half-space is extended to the case when the half-space rotates about an axis with a constant rotation rate. The sextic equation for the Stroh eigenvalues, the eigenvectors, the orthogonality and closure relations are obtained. The Barnett–Lothe tensors are no longer real, but two of them are Hermitian. Taziev’s equation is generalized and used to derive the polarization vector and the secular equation without computing the Stroh eigenvalues and eigenvectors. An alternative derivation using the method of first integrals by Mozhaev and Destrade yields new invariants that relate the displacement and stress and are independent of the depth from the free surface. Explicit expression of the polarization vector and the secular equation for monoclinic materials with the symmetry plane at x3 = 0 with the rotation about the x3-axis obtained by Destrade is re-examined, and new results are presented. Also presented is the one-component surface wave in the rotating half-space.  相似文献

The propagation of axisymmetric free vibrations in an infinite homogeneous isotropic micropolar thermoelastic plate without energy dissipation subjected to stress free and rigidly fixed boundary conditions is investigated. The secular equations for homogeneous isotropic micropolar thermoelastic plate without energy dissipation in closed form for symmetric and skew symmetric wave modes of propagation are derived. The different regions of secular equations are obtained. At short wavelength limits, the secular equations for symmetric and skew symmetric modes of wave propagation in a stress free insulated and isothermal plate reduce to Rayleigh surface wave frequency equation. The results for thermoelastic, micropolar elastic and elastic materials are obtained as particular cases from the derived secular equations. The amplitudes of displacement components, microrotation and temperature distribution are also computed during the symmetric and skew symmetric motion of the plate. The dispersion curves for symmetric and skew symmetric modes and amplitudes of displacement components, microrotation and temperature distribution in case of fundamental symmetric and skew symmetric modes are presented graphically. The analytical and numerical results are found to be in close agreement.  相似文献
