We apply our recently developed global Hopf bifurcation theory to examine global continuation with respect to the parameter for periodic solutions of functional differential equations with state-dependent delay. We give sufficient geometric conditions to ensure the uniform boundedness of periodic solutions, obtain an upper bound of the period of non-constant periodic solutions in a connected component of Hopf bifurcation, and establish the existence of rapidly oscillating periodic solutions.  相似文献

We investigate Hopf bifurcations in a delayed Nicholson’s blowflies equation of neutral type, derived from the Gurtin–MacCamy model. A key parameter that determines the direction of the Hopf bifurcation and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions is derived. Global extension of local Hopf branches is established by combining a global Hopf bifurcation theorem with a Bendixson criterion for higher dimensional ordinary differential equations. We show that a branch of slowly varying periodic solutions and a branch of fast oscillating periodic solutions coexist for all large delays.  相似文献

This paper investigates the dynamics of a TCP system described by a first- order nonlinear delay differential equation. By analyzing the associated characteristic transcendental equation, it is shown that a Hopf bifurcation sequence occurs at the pos- itive equilibrium as the delay passes through a sequence of critical values. The explicit algorithms for determining the Hopf bifurcation direction and the stability of the bifur- cating periodic solutions are derived with the normal form theory and the center manifold theory. The global existence of periodic solutions is also established with the method of Wu (Wu, J. H. Symmetric functional differential equations and neural networks with memory. Transactions of the American Mathematical Society 350(12), 4799-4838 (1998)).  相似文献

In this paper, a finance system with time delay is considered. By linearizing the system at the unique equilibrium and analyzing the associated characteristic equation, the asymptotic stability of the unique equilibrium is investigated and Hopf bifurcations are demonstrated. Furthermore, the direction of Hopf bifurcation and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions are determined by the normal form theory and the center manifold theorem for functional differential equations. Finally, some numerical simulations are carried out for illustrating the theoretical results.  相似文献

A genetic regulatory network mediated by small RNA with two time delays is investigated. We show by mathematical analysis and simulation that time delays can provide a mechanism for the intracellular oscillator. By linearizing the system at the positive equilibrium and analyzing the associated characteristic equation, the asymptotic stability of the positive equilibrium is investigated and Hopf bifurcations are demonstrated. Furthermore, the direction of Hopf bifurcation and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions are determined by the normal form theory and the center manifold theorem for functional differential equations. Finally, some numerical simulations are carried out for illustrating the theoretical results.  相似文献

The trivial equilibrium of a two-degree-of-freedom autonomous system may become unstable via a Hopf bifurcation of multiplicity two and give rise to oscillatory bifurcating solutions, due to presence of a time delay in the linear and nonlinear terms. The effect of external excitations on the dynamic behaviour of the corresponding non-autonomous system, after the Hopf bifurcation, is investigated based on the behaviour of solutions to the four-dimensional system of ordinary differential equations. The interaction between the Hopf bifurcating solutions and the high level excitations may induce a non-resonant or secondary resonance response, depending on the ratio of the frequency of bifurcating periodic motion to the frequency of external excitation. The first-order approximate periodic solutions for the non-resonant and super-harmonic resonance response are found to be in good agreement with those obtained by direct numerical integration of the delay differential equation. It is found that the non-resonant response may be either periodic or quasi-periodic. It is shown that the super-harmonic resonance response may exhibit periodic and quasi-periodic motions as well as a co-existence of two or three stable motions.  相似文献

We analyze a modified van der Pol–Duffing electronic circuit, modeled by a tridimensional autonomous system of differential equations with Z2-symmetry. Linear codimension-one and two bifurcations of equilibria give rise to several dynamical behaviours, including periodic, homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits. The local analysis provides, in first approximation, the different bifurcation sets. These local results are used as a guide to apply the adequate numerical methods to obtain a global understanding of the bifurcation sets. The study of the normal form of the Hopf bifurcation shows the presence of cusps of saddle-node bifurcations of periodic orbits. The existence of a codimension-four Hopf bifurcation is also pointed out. In the case of the Takens–Bogdanov bifurcation, several degenerate situations of codimension-three are analyzed in both homoclinic and heteroclinic cases. The existence of a Hopf–Shil'nikov singularity is also shown.  相似文献

A delayed Lotka?CVolterra predator-prey system of population allelopathy with discrete delay and distributed maturation delay for the predator population described by an integral with a strong delay kernel is considered. 相似文献

Consider that some zooplankton can be harvested for food and some phytoplankton can liberate toxin; a toxin producing phytoplankton–zooplankton model with delay and selective harvesting is proposed and investigated. We discuss the stability of equilibria and perform the analysis of Hopf bifurcation. More precisely, the global asymptotical stability of equilibria is investigated by the Lyapunov method and Dulac theorem. In addition, the computing formulas of stability and direction of the Hopf bifurcating periodic solutions are also given. Furthermore, we prove that there exists at least one positive periodic solution as a time delay varies in some regions by using the global Hopf-bifurcation result of Wu (Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 350:4799–4838, 1998) for functional differential equations. Finally, the impact of harvesting is discussed along with numerical results to provide some support to the analytical findings.  相似文献

In this paper, Hopf bifurcation and Bogdanov?CTakens bifurcation with codimension 2 in a coupled FitzHugh?CNagumo neural system with gap junction are investigated. At first, a general bifurcation diagram on the plane of coupling strength and delay is derived. Then, explicit algorithms due to Hassard and Faria are applied to determine the normal forms of Hopf and Bogdanov?CTakens bifurcations, respectively. Next, we analyze the codimension-2 unfolding for Bogdanov?CTakens bifurcation, and give complete bifurcation diagrams and phase portraits. Furthermore, we also consider the spatio-temporal patterns of bifurcating periodic solutions by using the symmetric bifurcation theory of delay differential equations combined with representation theory of Lie groups. By the results of theoretical analysis, we obtain that the values of coupled strength, which make the transmission and received signals be synchronous and anti-phase, are opposite. And universal unfolding of Bogdanov?CTakens bifurcation indicates that the neuron signals can transit between resting and spiking.  相似文献

In this paper, we aim to investigate the dynamics of a system of Van der Pol–Duffing oscillators with delay coupling. First, taking the time delay as a bifurcation parameter, the stability of the equilibrium, and the existence of Hopf bifurcation are investigated. Then using the center manifold reduction technique and normal form theory, we give the direction of the Hopf bifurcation. And then by means of the symmetric bifurcation theory for delay differential equations and the representation theory of groups, we claim the bifurcation periodic solution induced by time delay is antiphase locked oscillation. Finally, at the end of the paper, numerical simulations are carried out to support our theoretical analysis.  相似文献

This paper takes into consideration a damped harmonic oscillator model with delayed feedback. After transforming the model into a system of first-order delayed differential equations with a single discrete delay, the single stability switch and multiple stability switches phenomena as well as the existence of Hopf bifurcation of the zero equilibrium of the system are explored by taking the delay as the bifurcation parameter and analyzing in detail the associated characteristic equation. Particularly, in view of the normal form method and the center manifold reduction for retarded functional differential equations, the explicit formula determining the properties of Hopf bifurcation including the direction of the bifurcation and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions are given. In order to check the rationality of our theoretical results, numerical simulations for some specific examples are also carried out by means of the MATLAB software package.

In this paper, we study strongly nonlinear axisymmetric waves in a circular cylindrical rod composed of a compressible Mooney-Rivlin material. To consider the travelling wave solutions for the governing partial differential system, we first reduce it to a nonlinear ordinary differential equation. By using the bifurcation theory of planar dynamical systems, we show that the reduced system has seven periodic annuluses with different boundaries which depend on four parameters. We further consider the bifurcation behavior of the phase portraits for the reduced one-parameter vector fields when other three parameters are fixed. Corresponding to seven different periodic annuluses, we obtain seven types of travelling wave solutions, including solitary waves of radial contraction, solitary waves of radial expansion, solitary shock waves of radial contraction, solitary shock waves of radial expansion, periodic waves and two types of periodic shock waves. These are physically acceptable solutions by the governing partial differential system. The rigorous parameter conditions for the existence of these waves are given.  相似文献

In this paper, the dynamics of a pair of van der Pol oscillators with delayed velocity coupling is studied by taking the time delay as a bifurcation parameter. We first investigate the stability of the zero equilibrium and the existence of Hopf bifurcations induced by delay, and then study the direction and stability of the Hopf bifurcations. Then by using the symmetric bifurcation theory of delay differential equations combined with representation theory of Lie groups, we investigate the spatio-temporal patterns of Hopf bifurcating periodic oscillations. We find that there are different in-phase and anti-phase patterns as the coupling time delay is increased. The analytical theory is supported by numerical simulations, which show good agreement with the theory.  相似文献

The general Brusselator system is considered under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. The existence results of the Hopf bifurcation to the ordinary differential equation (ODE) and partial differential equation (PDE) models are obtained. By the center manifold theory and the normal form method, the bifurcation direction and stability of periodic solutions are established. Moreover, some numerical simulations are shown to support the analytical results. At the same time, the positive steady-state solutions and spatially inhomogeneous periodic solutions are graphically shown to supplement the analytical results.  相似文献

In this paper, from the view of stability and chaos control, we investigate the Rossler chaotic system with delayed feedback. At first, we consider the stability of one of the fixed points, verifying that Hopf bifurcation occurs as delay crosses some critical values. Then, for determining the stability and direction of Hopf bifurcation we derive explicit formulae by using the normal-form theory and center manifold theorem. By designing appropriate feedback strength and delay, one of the unstable equilibria of the Rossler chaotic system can be controlled to be stable, or stable bifurcating periodic solutions occur at the neighborhood of the equilibrium. Finally, some numerical simulations are carried out to support the analytic results.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the effect of distributed delays in a three-neuron unidirectional ring. Sufficient conditions for existence of unique equilibrium, multiple equilibria and their local stability are derived. Taking the average delay as a bifurcation parameter, we find two critical values at which the system undergoes Hopf bifurcations. The orbital asymptotic stability of the Hopf bifurcating periodic solutions is investigated by using the method of multiple scales. The global Hopf bifurcation is also studied. Finally, the theoretical results are illustrated by some numerical simulations.  相似文献

The bifurcations and chaotic dynamics of parametrically and externally excited suspended cables are investigated in this paper. The equations of motion governing such systems contain quadratic and cubic nonlinearities, which may result in two-to-one and one-to-one internal resonances. The Galerkin procedure is introduced to simplify the governing equations of motion to ordinary differential equations with two-degree-of-freedom. The case of one-to-one internal resonance between the modes of suspended cables, primary resonant excitation, and principal parametric excitation of suspended cables is considered. Using the method of multiple scales, a parametrically and externally excited system is transformed to the averaged equations. A pseudo arclength scheme is used to trace the branches of the equilibrium solutions and an investigation of the eigenvalues of the Jacobian matrix is used to assess their stability. The equilibrium solutions experience pitchfork, saddle-node, and Hopf bifurcations. A detailed bifurcation analysis of the dynamic (periodic and chaotic) solutions of the averaged equations is presented. Five branches of dynamic solutions are found. Three of these branches that emerge from two Hopf bifurcations and the other two are isolated. The two Hopf bifurcation points, one is supercritical Hopf bifurcation point and another is primary Hopf bifurcation point. The limit cycles undergo symmetry-breaking, cyclic-fold, and period-doubling bifurcations, whereas the chaotic attractors undergo attractor-merging, boundary crises. Simultaneous occurrence of the limit cycle and chaotic attractors, homoclinic orbits, homoclinic explosions and hyperchaos are also observed.  相似文献

The three-dimensional Muthuswamy–Chua–Ginoux (MCG, for short) circuit system based on a thermistor is a generalization of the classical Muthuswamy–Chua circuit differential system. At present, there are only partial numerical simulations for the qualitative analysis of the MCG circuit system. In this work, we study local stability and Hopf bifurcations of the MCG circuit system depending on 8 parameters. The emerging of limit cycles under zero-Hopf bifurcation and Hopf bifurcation is investigated in detail by using the averaging method and the center manifolds theory, respectively. We provide sufficient conditions for a class of the circuit systems to have a prescribed number of limit cycles bifurcating from the zero-Hopf equilibria by making use of the third-order averaging method, as well as the methods of Gröbner basis and real solution classification from symbolic computation. Such algebraic analysis allows one to study the zero-Hopf bifurcation for any other differential system in dimension 3 or higher. After, the classical Hopf bifurcation of the circuit system is analyzed by computing the first three focus quantities near the Hopf equilibria. Some examples and numerical simulations are presented to verify the established theoretical results.

A non-linear parametrically excited oscillator, that includes van der Pol as well as Duffing type non-linearities, is studied for its small non-linear motions using the method of averaging. The averaged equations, which form a dynamical system on the plane and depend on the linear damping and the detuning, are analyzed for their constant and periodic solutions. Bendixon's criterion is used to deduce the existence and the non-existence of limit cycle solutions for various values of the parameters. Then, using local bifurcation theory for “saddle-node”, pitchfork and “Hopf” bifurcations and some results from one and two parameter unfoldings of degenerate singularities, a partial bifurcation set is constructed. Since constant and periodic solutions of the averaged system correspond, respectively, to the periodic solutions and almost periodic or amplitude modulated motions of the original oscillator, the bifurcation set indicates some ways in which periodic solutions can become “entrained” or can break the entrainment for almost periodic oscillations.  相似文献
