The first systematic study of diferrous dicyano dithiolates is described. Oxidation of [Fe2(S2C2H4)(CN)2(CO)4](2-) in the presence of cyanide and tertiary phosphines and of Fe2(S2C2H4)(CO)4(PMe3)2 in the presence of cyanide affords a series of diferrous cyanide derivatives that bear a stoichiometric, structural, and electronic relationship to the H(ox)(air) state of the Fe-only hydrogenases. With PPh3 as the trapping ligand, we obtained an unsymmetrical isomer of Fe2(S2C2H4)(mu-CO)(CN)2(PPh3)2(CO)2, as confirmed crystallographically. This diferrous cyanide features the semibridging CO-ligand, with Fe-muC bond lengths of 2.15 and 1.85 A. Four isomers of Fe2(S2C2H4)(mu-CO)(CN)2(PMe3)2(CO)2 were observed, the initial product again being unsymmetrical but more stable isomers being symmetrical. DFT calculations confirm that the most stable isomers of Fe2(S2C2H4)(mu-CO)(CN)2(PMe3)2(CO)2 have cyanide trans to mu-CO. Oxidative decarbonylation also afforded the new tetracyanide [Fe2(S2C2H4)(mu-CO)(CN)4(CO)2]2-. Insights into the oxidative decarbonylation mechanism of these syntheses come from the spectroscopic characterization of the tetracarbonyl [Fe2(S2C2H4)(mu-CO)(CN)3(CO)3](-). This species reacts with PEt3 to produce the stable adduct [Fe2(S2C2H4)(mu-CO)(CN)3(CO)2(PEt3)](-).  相似文献

Heating a mixture of Ir(4)(CO)(9)(PPh(3))(3) (1) and 2 equiv of C(60) in refluxing chlorobenzene (CB) affords a "butterfly" tetrairidium-C(60) complex Ir(4)(CO)(6){mu(3)-kappa(3)-PPh(2)(o-C(6)H(4))P(o-C(6)H(4))PPh(eta(1)-o-C(6)H(4))}(mu(3)-eta(2):eta(2):eta(2)-C(60)) (3, 36%). Brief thermolysis of 1 in refluxing chlorobenzene (CB) gives a "butterfly" complex Ir(4)(CO)(8){mu-k(2)-PPh(2)(o-C(6)H(4))PPh}{mu(3)-PPh(2)(eta(1):eta(2)-o-C(6)H(4))} (2, 64%) that is both ortho-phosphorylated and ortho-metalated. Interestingly, reaction of 2 with 2 equiv of C(60) in refluxing CB produces 3 (41%) by C(60)-assisted ortho-phosphorylation, indicating that 2 is the reaction intermediate for the final product 3. On the other hand, reaction of Ir(4)(CO)(8)(PMe(3))(4) (4) with excess (4 equiv) C(60) in refluxing 1,2-dichlorobenzene, followed by treatment with CNCH(2)Ph at 70 degrees C, affords a square-planar complex with two C(60) ligands and a face-capping methylidyne ligand, Ir(4)(CO)(3)(mu(4)-CH)(PMe(3))(2)(mu-PMe(2))(CNCH(2)Ph)(mu-eta(2):eta(2)-C(60))(mu(4)-eta(1):eta(1):eta(2):eta(2)-C(60)) (5, 13%) as the major product. Compounds 2, 3, and 5 have been characterized by spectroscopic and microanalytical methods, as well as by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Cyclic voltammetry has been used to examine the electrochemical properties of 2, 3, 5, and a related known "butterfly" complex Ir(4)(CO)(6)(mu-CO){mu(3)-k(2)-PPh(2)(o-C(6)H(4))P(eta(1)-o-C(6)H(4))}(mu(3)-eta(2):eta(2):eta(2)-C(60)) (6). These cyclic voltammetry data suggest that a C(60)-mediated electron transfer to the iridium cluster center takes place for the species 3(3)(-) and 6(2)(-) in compounds 3 and 6. The cyclic voltammogram of 5 exhibits six well-separated reversible, one-electron redox waves due to the strong electronic communication between two C(60) cages through a tetrairidium metal cluster spacer. The electrochemical properties of 3, 5, and 6 have been rationalized by molecular orbital calculations using density functional theory and by charge distribution studies employing the Mulliken and Hirshfeld population analyses.  相似文献

Toluene solutions of C(60) react upon UV irradiation with Fe(2)S(2)(CO)(6) to give C(60)[S(2)Fe(2)(CO)(6)](n)() where n = 1-6. C(60)[S(2)Fe(2)(CO)(6)](n)() where n = 1-3 have been isolated and characterized. Crystallographic studies of C(60)S(2)Fe(2)(CO)(6) show that the S-S bond of the Fe(2) reagent is cleaved to give a dithiolate with idealized C(2)(v)() symmetry. The addition occurred at a 6,6 fusion, and the metrical details show that the Fe(2) portion of the molecule resembles C(2)H(4)S(2)Fe(2)(CO)(6). IR spectroscopic measurements indicate that the Fe(2)(CO)(6) subunits in the multiple-addition species (n > 1) interact only weakly. UV-vis spectra of the adducts show a shift to shorter wavelength with addition of each S(2)Fe(2)(CO)(6) unit. Photoaddition of the phosphine complex Fe(2)S(2)(CO)(5)(PPh(3)) to C(60) gave C(60)[S(2)Fe(2)(CO)(5)(PPh(3))](n)(), where n = 1-3. (31)P{(1)H} NMR studies show that the double adduct consists of multiple isomers. Photoaddition of Fe(2)S(2)(CO)(6) to C(70) gave a series of adducts C(70)[S(2)Fe(2)(CO)(6)](n)() where n = 1-4. HPLC analyses show one, four, and three isomers for the adducts, respectively.  相似文献

Oxidation of the nominally all-ferrous hexanuclear cluster ((H)L)(2)Fe(6) with six equivalents of ferrocenium in the presence of bromide ions results in a six-electron oxidation of the Fe(6) core to afford the nominally all-ferric cluster ((H)L)(2)Fe(6)Br(6). The hexabromide cluster is also structurally characterized in a 4+ core oxidation state. A structural comparison of these two clusters provides an insight into the Fe(6) core electronic structure.  相似文献

Reactions of the homoleptic (AuC(2)R)(n) precursors with stoichiometric amount of diphosphine ligand PPh(2)C(6)H(4)PPh(2) (P^P) and Cu(+) ions lead to an assembly of a new family of bimetallic clusters [Au(6)Cu(2)(C(2)R)(6)(P^P)(2)](2+) (type I; R=9-fluorenolyl (1), diphenylmethanolyl (2), 2,6-dimethyl-4-heptanolyl (3), 1-cyclohexanolyl (4), Cy (5), tBu (6)). In the case of R=1-cyclohexanolyl, a structurally different complex [Au(6)Cu(2)(C(2)C(6)H(11)O)(6)(P^P)(3)](2+) (7, type II) could be obtained by treatment of 4 with one equivalent of the diphosphine, while for R=isopropanolyl only the latter type of cluster [Au(6)Cu(2)(C(2)C(3)H(7)O)(6)(P^P)(3)](2+) (8) was detected. Steric bulkiness of the alkynyl ligands and O···H-O hydrogen bonding are suggested to play an important role in stabilizing the type I and type II cluster structural motif, respectively. All the complexes exhibit intense photoluminescence in solution with emission parameters that depending on the geometrical arrangement of the octanuclear metal core. The clusters 1-4 and 6 show single emission band in a blue region (469-488 nm) with maximum quantum yield of 94% (4), while structurally different 7 and 8 emit yellow-orange (590 nm) with unity quantum efficiency. The theoretical DFT calculations of the electronic structures have been carried out to demonstrate that the metal-centered triplet emission within the heterometallic core plays a key role for the observed phosphorescence.  相似文献

The reaction of CpMoMn(mu-S(2))(CO)(5), 1, with 1,4-benzoquinone in the presence of irradiation with visible light yielded the quinonedithiolato complex CpMoMn(CO)(5)(mu-S(2)C(6)H(2)O(2)), 2. The new complex CpMoMn(CO)(5)(mu-S(2)C(6)Cl(2)O(2)) (4) was synthesized similarly from 1 and 2,3-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone. Compounds 2 and 4 were reduced with hydrogen to yield the hydroquinone complexes CpMoMn(CO)(5)[mu-S(2)C(6)H(2)(OH)(2)], 3, and CpMoMn(CO)(5)[mu-S(2)C(6)Cl(2)(OH)(2)], 5. UV-vis irradiation of solutions of Fe(2)(CO)(6)(mu-S(2)) and 1,4-benzoquinone yielded the hydroquinone complex Fe(2)(CO)(6)[mu-S(2)C(6)H(2)(OH)(2)], 6. Compound 6 was oxidized to the quinone complex Fe(2)(CO)(6)(mu-S(2)C(6)H(2)O(2)), 7, by using 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone. Substitution of the CO ligands on 6 by PPh(3) yielded the derivatives Fe(2)(CO)(5)(PPh(3))[mu-S(2)C(6)H(2)(OH)(2)], 8, and Fe(2)(CO)(4)(PPh(3))(2)[mu-S(2)C(6)H(2)(OH)(2)], 9. The electrochemical properties of 3, 5, 6, 8, and 9 were measured by cyclic voltammetry. The molecular structure of each of the new compounds 2-9 was established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.  相似文献

The chiral monodentate phosphine PhP[(C(5)Me(4))(2)] is readily obtained by oxidation of the lithium complex Li(2)[PhP(C(5)Me(4))(2)] with I(2), which couples the two cyclopentadienyl groups to form a five-membered heterocyclic ring. The steric and electronic properties of PhP[(C(5)Me(4))(2)] have been evaluated by X-ray diffraction and IR spectroscopic studies on a variety of derivatives, including Ph[(C(5)Me(4))(2)]PE (E = S, Se), Cp*MCl(4)[P[(C(5)Me(4))(2)]Ph] (M = Mo, Ta), Ir[P[(C(5)Me(4))(2)]Ph](2)(CO)Cl, and CpFe(CO)[PhP[(C(5)Me(4))(2)]]Me. For comparison purposes, derivatives of the related phospholane ligand PhP[Me(2)C(4)H(6)] have also been investigated, including Ph[Me(2)C(4)H(6)]PS, Ir[Ph[Me(2)C(4)H(6)]](2)(CO)Cl, Ir[Ph[Me(2)C(4)H(6)]](2)(CO)Me, Ir[PPh[Me(2)C(4)H(6)]](COD)(Cl), and Pd[P[Me(2)C(4)H(6)]Ph][eta(2)-C(6)H(4)C(H)(Me)NMe(2)]Cl. The steric and electronic properties of PhP[(C(5)Me(4))(2)] are determined to be intermediate between those of PPh(2)Me and PPh(3). Thus, the crystallographic cone angles increase in the sequence PPh(2)Me (134.5 degrees) < PhP[(C(5)Me(4))(2)] (140.2 degrees) < PPh(3) (148.2 degrees), while the electron donating abilities decrease in the sequence PPh(2)Me > PhP[(C(5)Me(4))(2)] > PPh(3). Finally, PhP[(C(5)Me(4))(2)] has a smaller cone angle and is less electron donating than the structurally similar phosphine, PhP[Me(2)C(4)H(6)].  相似文献

The halide ligands of [Fe(4)C(CO)(12)(CuCl)(2)](2-) (1) and [Fe(5)C(CO)(14)CuCl](2-) (2) can be displaced by N-, P- or S-donors. Beside substitution, the clusters easily undergo structural rearrangements, with loss/gain of metal atoms, and formation of Fe(4)Cu/Fe(4)Cu(3) metallic frameworks. Thus, the reaction of 1 with excess dppe yielded [{Fe(4)C(CO)(12)Cu}(2)(μ-dppe)](2-) (3). [{Fe(4)C(CO)(12)Cu}(2)(μ-pyz)](2-) (4) was obtained by reaction of 2 with Ag(+) and pyrazine. [Fe(4)C(CO)(12)Cu-py](-) (5) was formed more directly from [Fe(4)C(CO)(12)](2-), [Cu(NCMe)(4)](+) and pyridine. [Fe(4)Cu(3)C(CO)(12)(μ-S(2)CNEt(2))(2)](-) (6) and [{Fe(4)Cu(3)C(CO)(12)(μ-pz)(2)}(2)](2-) (7) were prepared by substitution of the halides of 1 with diethyldithiocarbamate and pyrazolate, in the presence of Cu(i) ions. All of these products were characterized by X-ray analysis. 3 and 4 and 5 are square based pyramids, with iron in the apical sites, the bridging ligands connect the two copper atoms in 3 and 4. 6 and 7 are octahedral clusters with an additional copper ion held in place by the two bridging anionic ligands, forming a Cu(3) triangle with Cu-Cu distances ranging 2.63-3.13 ?. In 7, an additional unbridged cuprophilic interaction (2.75 ?) is formed between two such cluster units. DFT calculations were able to reproduce the structural deformations of 3-5, and related their differences to the back-donation from the ligand to Cu. Additionally, DFT found that, in solution, the tight ion pair [NEt(4)](2)7 is almost isoenergetic with the monomeric form. Thus, 3, 4 and 7 are entities of nanometric size, assembled either through conventional metal-ligand bonds or weaker electrostatic interactions. None of them allows electronic communication between the two monomeric units, as shown by electrochemistry and spectroelectrochemical studies. Following the method of Prato et al., reaction of C(60), N-methylglycine and o-(diphenylphosphino)benzaldehyde affords PPh(2)(o-C(6)H(4))(CH(2)NMeCH)C(60) (1) in moderate yield. Compound 1 reacts with W(CO)(4)(NCMe)(2) to produce W(CO)(4)(η(3)-PPh(2)(o-C(6)H(4))(CH(2)NMeCH)C(60)) (2), through coordination of the phosphine group and one 6 : 6-ring junction of fullerene. Reaction of 1 and Os(3)(CO)(11)(NCMe) affords Os(3)(CO)(11)(PPh(2)(o-C(6)H(4))(CH(2)NMeCH)C(60)) (3), which undergoes a cluster fragmentation reaction in refluxing toluene to produce Os(CO)(3)(η(3)-PPh(2)(o-C(6)H(4))(CH(2)NMeCH)C(60)) (4). Thermal reaction of 1 and Os(3)(CO)(12) affords 3 and 4. On the other hand, reaction of 1 and Ru(3)(CO)(12) yields only the mononuclear complex Ru(CO)(3)(η(3)-PPh(2)(o-C(6)H(4))(CH(2)NMeCH)C(60)) (5). The structures of 1-3 and 5 were determined by an X-ray diffraction study.  相似文献

A complex containing the face-capped octahedral [Re(6)(mu(3)-Se)(8)](2+) cluster core, cis-[Re(6)(mu(3)-Se)(8)(PPh(3))(4)(4,4'-dipyridyl)(2)](SbF(6))(2) (1), is used as a ditopic ligand with an enforced right angle between the two 4,4'-dipyridyl moieties for the coordination of Cd(2+) ion. Two coordination polymers, [[Re(6)(mu(3)-Se)(8)(PPh(3))(4)(4,4'-dipyridyl)(2)](2)[Cd(NO(3))(2)]](SbF(6))(4).21C(4)H(10)O.21CH(2)Cl(2) (2) and [[Re(6)(mu(3)-Se)(8)(PPh(3))(4)(4,4'-dipyridyl)(2)][Cd(NO(3))(3)]](NO(3)).2C(4)H(10)O.CH(2)Cl(2) (3), are obtained. The relative concentration of Cd(2+) determines which species is isolated, and the conversion of the first structure into the second is demonstrated experimentally.  相似文献

Preparation and characterization of a series of rodlike binuclear ruthenium polyynediyl complexes capped with redox-active organometallic fragments [(bph)(PPh3)2Ru]+ (bph=N-(benzoyl)-N'-(picolinylidene)-hydrazine) or [(Phtpy)(PPh3)2Ru]2+ (Phtpy=4'-phenyl-2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine) have been carried out. The length of the molecular rods is extended by successive insertion of 2,5-thiophene or 1,4-phenylene spacers in the bridging ligands. Oxidation of thiophene-containing Ru2II,II complexes induces isolation of stable Ru2II,III or Ru2III,III species. Electrochemical and UV-vis-NIR spectral studies demonstrate that the polyynediyl bridges with 2,5-thiophene units are more favorable for metal-metal charge transfer compared with those containing the same number of 1,4-phenylene units. Successive increase of thiophene spacers in mixed-valence complexes {RuII}-CC(C4H2S)mCC-{RuIII} (m=1, 2, 3) induced a smooth transition from almost electronic delocalization (m=1) to localization (m=3). For binuclear ruthenium complexes with intramolecular electron transfer transmitted across nine Ru-C and C-C bonds, electronic conveying capability follows {Ru}-CC(CC)2CC-{Ru}>{Ru}-CC(C4H2S)CC-{Ru}>{Ru}-CC(C6H4)CC-{Ru}>{Ru}-CC(CH=CH)2CC-{Ru}. It is revealed that molecular wires capped with electron-rich (bph)(PPh3)2Ru endgroups are much more favorable for electronic communication than the corresponding electron-deficient (Phtpy)(PPh3)2Ru-containing counterparts. The intermetallic electronic communication is fine-tuned by modification of both the bridging spacers and the ancillary ligands.  相似文献

The nine-vertex ferracarborane salt [N(PPh3)2][7,7,7-(CO)3-closo-7,1-FeCB7H8] (1) reacts with an excess of [IrCl(CO)(PPh3)2] in the presence of Tl[PF6] to form, successively, the bimetallic species [7,7,9,9,9-(CO)5-7-PPh3-closo-7,9,1-IrFeCB6H7] (3), in which one {BH}- vertex has formally been subrogated by an {Ir(CO)2(PPh3)} unit, and the trimetallic complex [6,7,9-{Ir(CO)(PPh3)2}-7,9-(mu-H)2-7,9,9-(CO)3-7-PPh3-closo-7,9,1-IrFeCB6H6] (5), which contains an {FeIr2} triangle. The {FeIrCB6} core in 5 resembles that in 3 with, in addition, the Fe...Ir connectivity being spanned by an {Ir(CO)(PPh3)2} fragment and the consequent Fe-Ir and Ir-Ir bonds bridged by hydrido ligands. In contrast to the above, treatment of the 10-vertex diferracarborane salt [N(PPh3)2][6,6,6,10,10,10-(CO)6-closo-6,10, 1-Fe2CB7H8] (2) with the same reagents yields two very different, trimetallic complexes, namely [8,10-{Ir(mu-PPh2)(Ph)(CO)(PPh3)}-8-(mu-H)-6,6,6,10,10-( CO)5-closo-6,10,1-Fe2CB7H7] (6) and [6,7,10-{Fe(CO)3}-6-(mu-H)-6,10,10,10-(CO)4-6-PPh3-closo-6,10,1-IrFeCB7H7] (7). In 6, an exo-polyhedral {IrPh(CO)(PPh3)} moiety is attached to a {closo-6,10,1-Fe2CB7} framework via a PPh2-bridged Fe-Ir bond and a B-HIr agostic-type linkage, the iridium center formally having inserted into one P-Ph bond of a PPh3 unit. Complex 7 contains an {IrFeCB7} cluster core, with an exo-polyhedral {Fe(CO)3} moiety bridging a {BIrFe} triangular face and with an additional Ir-H-Fe bridge. However, this metal atom arrangement reveals that iridium and iron moieties have exchanged exo- and endo-polyhedral sites with respect to the 10-vertex metallacarborane. X-ray diffraction studies upon 3, 5, 6, and 7 confirmed their novel structural features; some preliminary reactivity studies upon these compounds are also reported.  相似文献

Novel electroactive multimetallic compounds based on the [Pt(2)(mu(2)-S)(2)M] core, viz. [Pt(2)(PPh(3))(4)(mu(3)-S)(2)HgFc]PF(6) (1) [Fc = (eta(5)-C(5)H(4))Fe(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))] and [Pt(2)(PPh(3))(4)(mu(3)-S)(2)Hg(2)Fc'](PF(6))(2) (2) [Fc' = Fe(eta(5)-C(5)H(4))(2)], have been synthesized under the guide of electrospray mass spectrometry. The electrochemistry of these ferrocene funtionalized compounds together with the reported [Pt(2)(PPh(3))(4)(mu(3)-S)(2)HgPPh(3)](PF(6))(2) (3), [Pt(2)(PPh(3))(4)(mu(2)-S)(mu(3)-S)HgPh]PF(6) (4), and [Pt(2)(PPh(3))(4)(mu(2)-S)(mu(3)-S)AuPPh(3)]PF(6) (5) have been investigated using cyclic voltammetry and DFT calculations. These results point to a prominent ligand-based oxidation.  相似文献

A series of new diiron azadithiolate (ADT) complexes (1-8), which could be regarded as the active site models of [FeFe]hydrogenases, have been synthesized starting from parent complex [(μ-SCH(2))(2)NCH(2)CH(2)OH]Fe(2)(CO)(6) (A). Treatment of A with ethyl malonyl chloride or malonyl dichloride in the presence of pyridine afforded the malonyl-containing complexes [(μ-SCH(2))(2)NCH(2)CH(2)O(2)CCH(2)CO(2)Et]Fe(2)(CO)(6) (1) and [Fe(2)(CO)(6)(μ-SCH(2))(2)NCH(2)CH(2)O(2)C](2)CH(2) (2). Further treatment of 1 and 2 with PPh(3) under different conditions produced the PPh(3)-substituted complexes [(μ-SCH(2))(2)NCH(2)CH(2)O(2)CCH(2)CO(2)Et]Fe(2)(CO)(5)(PPh(3)) (3), [(μ-SCH(2))(2)NCH(2)CH(2)O(2)CCH(2)CO(2)Et]Fe(2)(CO)(4)(PPh(3))(2) (4), and [Fe(2)(CO)(5)(PPh(3))(μ-SCH(2))(2)NCH(2)CH(2)O(2)C](2)CH(2) (5). More interestingly, complexes 1-3 could react with C(60) in the presence of CBr(4) and 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) via Bingel-Hirsch reaction to give the C(60)-containing complexes [(μ-SCH(2))(2)NCH(2)CH(2)O(2)CC(C(60))CO(2)Et]Fe(2)(CO)(6) (6), [Fe(2)(CO)(6)(μ-SCH(2))(2)NCH(2)CH(2)O(2)C](2)C(C(60)) (7), and [(μ-SCH(2))(2)NCH(2)CH(2)O(2)CC(C(60))CO(2)Et]Fe(2)(CO)(5)(PPh(3)) (8). The new ADT-type models 1-8 were characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopy, whereas 2-4 were further studied by X-ray crystallography and 6-8 investigated in detail by DFT methods.  相似文献

Synthesis, characterization, and reactions of the novel manganese-oxo cubane complex [Mn(4)O(4)(O(2)PPh(2))(6)](ClO(4)), 1+ (ClO(4)(-)), are described. Cation 1+ is composed of the [Mn(4)O(4)](7+) core surrounded by six bidentate phosphinate ligands. The proton-coupled electron transfer (pcet) reactions of phenothiazine (pzH), the cation radical (pzH(.+)(ClO(4)(-)), and the neutral pz* radical with 1+ are reported and compared to Mn(4)O(4)(O(2)PPh(2))(6) (1). Compound 1+ (ClO(4)(-)) reacts with excess pzH via four sequential reduction steps that transfer a total of five electrons and four protons to 1+. This reaction forms the doubly dehydrated manganese cluster Mn(4)O(2)(O(2)PPh(2))(6) (2) and two water molecules derived from the corner oxygen atoms. The first pcet step forms the novel complex Mn(4)O(3)(OH)(O(2)PPh(2))(6) (1H) and 1 equiv of the pz+ cation by net hydride transfer from pzH. Spectroscopic characterization of isolated 1H is reported. Reduction of 1 by pzH or a series of para-substituted phenols also produces 1H via net H atom transfer. A lower limit to the homolytic bond dissociation energy (BDE) (1H --> 1 + H) was estimated to be >94 kcal/mol using solution phase BDEs for pzH and para-substituted phenols. The heterolytic BDE was estimated for the hydride transfer reaction 1H --> 1+ + H(-) (BDE approximately 127 kcal/mol). These comparisons reveal the O-H bond in 1H to be among the strongest of any Mn-hydroxo complex measured thus far. In three successive H atom transfer steps, 1H abstracts three hydrogen atoms from three pzH molecules to form complex 2. Complex 2 is shown to be identical to the "pinned butterfly" cluster produced by the reaction of 1 with pzH (Ruettinger, W. F.; Dismukes, G. C. Inorg. Chem. 2000, 39, 1021-1027). The Mn oxidation states in 2 are formally Mn(4)(2II,2III), and no further reduction occurs in excess pzH. By contrast, outer-sphere electron-only reductants such as cobaltacene reduce both 1+ and 1 to the all Mn(II) oxidation level and cause cluster fragmentation. The reaction of pzH(.+) with 1+ produces 1H and the pz+ cation by net hydrogen atom transfer, and terminates at 1 equiv of pzH(.+) with no further reaction at excess. By contrast, pz* does not react with 1+ at all, indicating that reduction of 1+ by electron transfer to form pz+ does not occur without a proton (pcet to 1+ is thermodynamically required). Experimental free energy changes are shown to account for these pcet reactions and the absence of electron transfer for any of the phenothiazine series. Hydrogen atom abstraction from substrates by 1 versus hydride abstraction by 1(+ )()illustrates the transition to two-electron one-proton pcet chemistry in the [Mn(4)O(4)](7+) core that is understood on the basis of free energy consideration. This transition provides a concrete example of the predicted lowest-energy pathway for the oxidation of two water molecules to H(2)O(2) as an intermediate within the photosynthetic water-oxidizing enzyme (vs sequential one-electron/proton steps). The Fe and Ru phosphine-borane complexes CpM(CO)2PPh2 x BH3 (1, M = Fe, 4, M = Ru) were synthesized utilizing the reaction of the phosphine-borane anion Li[PPh2 x BH3] with the iodo complexes CpM(CO)2I. The Fe complex 1 reacted with PMe3 to yield CpFe(CO)(PMe3)(PPh2 x BH3) (2) and CpFe(PMe3)2(PPh2 x BH3) (3) whereas the Ru species 4 gave only CpRu(CO)(PMe3)(PPh2 x BH3) (5). The complexes 1-5 were characterized by 1H, 11B, 13C and 31P NMR spectroscopy, MS, IR and X-ray crystallography for 1 to 4, and EA for 1, 2 and 4. The reactivity of 1 and 4 towards PPh2H x BH3 was explored. Although no stoichiometric reactions were detected under mild conditions, both 1 and 4 were found to function as dehydrocoupling catalysts to afford Ph2PH x BH2 x PPh2 x BH3 in the melt at elevated temperature (120 degrees C). The carbonyl Fe2(CO)9 also functioned as a dehydrocoupling catalyst under similar conditions. Complex 1 and Fe2(CO)9 represent the first reported active Fe complexes for the catalytic dehydrocoupling of phosphine-borane adducts.  相似文献

We used photoelectron spectroscopy (PES) to study how the terminal ligands influence the electronic structure and redox properties of the [4Fe-4S] cubane in several series of ligand-substituted analogue complexes: [Fe(4)S(4)Cl(4-x)(CN)(x)](2-), [Fe(4)S(4)Cl(4-x)(SCN)(x)](2-), [Fe(4)S(4)Cl(4-x)(OAc)(x)](2-), [Fe(4)S(4)(SC(2)H(5))(4-x)(OPr)(x)](2-), and [Fe(4)S(4)(SC(2)H(5))(4-x)Cl(x)](2-) (x = 0-4). All the ligand-substituted complexes gave similar PES spectral features as the parents, suggesting that the mixed-ligand coordination does not perturb the electronic structure of the cubane core significantly. The terminal ligands, however, have profound effects on the electron binding energies of the cubane and induce significant shifts of the PES spectra, increasing in the order SC(2)H(5)(-) --> Cl(-) --> OAc(-)/OPr(-) --> CN(-) --> SCN(-). A linear relationship between the electron binding energies and the substitution number x was observed for each series, indicating that each ligand contributes independently and additively to the total binding energy. The electron binding energies of the gaseous complexes represent their intrinsic oxidation energies; the observed linear dependence on x is consistent with similar observations on the redox potentials of mixed-ligand cubane complexes in solution. The current study reveals the electrostatic nature of the interaction between the [4Fe-4S] cubane core and its coordination environment and provides further evidence for the electronic and structural stability of the cubane core and its robustness as a structural and functional unit in Fe-S proteins.  相似文献

Closo-to-arachno redox flexibility in metallaheteroboranes may be viewed as a metal-to-ligand cooperative action with application in catalysis. The treatment of [PSH][arachno-4-SB(8)H(11)] with [RhCl(PPh(3))(3)] affords, after chromatography, three new 10-vertex rhodathiaboranes, [2,2,2-(H)(PPh(3))(2)-closo-2,1-RhSB(8)H(8)] (3), [6,6,9-(PPh(3))(3)-arachno-6,5-RhSB(8)H(9)] (4) and [2,2,2-(Cl)(H)(PPh(3))-6-(PPh(3))-closo-2,1-RhSB(8)H(7)] (5). 3 reacts quantitatively with PPh(3) to form 4, which, in turn, reacts with chlorinated solvents to give the chloro-ligated cluster 5. Kinetic studies demonstrate that the reaction of 3 with PPh(3) obeys a second-order rate law, with an associative mechanism. The Lewis acidity of 3 is quite remarkable, and, given its closo-to-arachno structural and electronic response, this cluster is expected to exhibit a rich chemistry.  相似文献

Five-coordinated trithiotungsten complexes (PPh(4))[(dmsp)W(S)(3)] (1a) and (PPh(4))[(dpsp)W(S)(3)] (1b) (R(2)PCH(2)CH(2)S(-); R = Me (dmsp-)), Ph (dpsp-))) were synthesized by addition of Hdmsp and Hdpsp to a THF solution of (PPh(4))[(EtS)W(S)(3)]. Treatment of 1a with CuBr in the presence of PPh(3) in CH(3)CN afforded a WCu(2) cluster (dmsp)WS(3)Cu(2)(PPh(3))(2)Br (2). The reaction of 1a with 1 equiv of FeCl(2) went smoothly to generate a 1:1 adduct (PPh(4))[(dmsp)WS(3)(FeCl(2))] (3), while 3 did not react further with excess FeCl(2). On the other hand, 3 was found to react with [Fe(CH(3)CN)(6)](ClO(4))(2), giving rise to an unusual tetranuclear cluster, [(dmsp)WS(3)](2)Fe(2)Cl (4), while the reaction of 1a with 2 equiv of [Fe(CH(3)CN)(6)](ClO(4))(2) led to a cyclic octanuclear cluster [(dmsp)WS(3)Fe](4) (5). Although the oxidation states of W(VI), Cu(I), and Fe(II) are retained in 2 and 3, reduction of the metal ions occurs in the formation of 4 and 5. All the complexes reported in this paper were structurally characterized by X-ray analysis. It is anticipated that the new type of trithiotungsten complexes, 1a and 1b, will serve as potential synthons for various heterometallic sulfide clusters.  相似文献
