Summary. In this paper we consider the numerical simulations of the incompressible materials on an unbounded domain in . A series of artificial boundary conditions at a circular artificial boundary for solving incompressible materials on an unbounded domain is given. Then the original problem is reduced to a problem on a bounded domain, which be solved numerically by a mixed finite element method. The numerical example shows that our artificial boundary conditions are very effective. ReceivedJune 7, 1995 / Revised version received August 19, 1996  相似文献

We consider the numerical approximations of the three-dimensional steady potential flow around a body moving in a liquid of finite constant depth at constant speed and distance below a free surface in a channel. One vertical side is introduced as the up-stream artificial boundary and two vertical sides are introduced as the downstream arti-ficial boundaries. On the artificial boundaries, a sequence of high-order global artificial boundary conditions are given. Then the original problem is reduced to a problem defined on a finite computational domain, which is equivalent to a variational problem. After solving the variational problem by the finite element method, we obtain the numerical approximation of the original problem. The numerical examples show that the artificial boundary conditions given in this paper are very effective.  相似文献

In this paper, the numerical solutions of heat equation on 3-D unbounded spatial do-main are considered. n artificial boundary Γ is introduced to finite the computationaldomain. On the artificial boundary Γ,the exact boundary condition and a series of approx-imating boundary conditions are derived, which are called artificial boundary conditions.By the exact or approximating boundary condition on the artificial boundary, the originalproblem is reduced to an initial-boundary value problem on the bounded computationaldomain, which is equivalent or approximating to the original problem. The finite differencemethod and finite element method are used to solve the reduced problems on the finitecomputational domain. The numerical results demonstrate that the method given in thispaper is effective and feasible.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a simple and robust numerical method for the forced Korteweg–de Vries (fKdV) equation which models free surface waves of an incompressible and inviscid fluid flow over a bump. The fKdV equation is defined in an infinite domain. However, to solve the equation numerically we must truncate the infinite domain to a bounded domain by introducing an artificial boundary and imposing boundary conditions there. Due to unsuitable artificial boundary conditions, most wave propagation problems have numerical difficulties (e.g., the truncated computational domain must be large enough or the numerical simulation must be terminated before the wave approaches the artificial boundary for the quality of the numerical solution). To solve this boundary problem, we develop an absorbing non-reflecting boundary treatment which uses outward wave velocity. The basic idea of the proposing algorithm is that we first calculate an outward wave velocity from the solutions at the previous and present time steps and then we obtain a solution at the next time step on the artificial boundary by moving the solution at the present time step with the velocity. And then we update solutions at the next time step inside the domain using the calculated solution on the artificial boundary. Numerical experiments with various initial conditions for the KdV and fKdV equations are presented to illustrate the accuracy and efficiency of our method.  相似文献

Exact absorbing boundary conditions for a linearized KdV equation are derived in this paper. Applying these boundary conditions at artificial boundary points yields an initial‐boundary value problem defined only on a finite interval. A dual‐Petrov‐Galerkin scheme is proposed for numerical approximation. Fast evaluation method is developed to deal with convolutions involved in the exact absorbing boundary conditions. In the end, some numerical tests are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.© 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We consider the numerical approximations of the complex amplitude in a coupled bayriver system in this work. One half-circumference is introduced as the artificial boundary in the open sea, and one segment is introduced as the artificial boundary in the river if the river is semi-infinite. On the artificial boundary a sequence of high-order artificial boundary conditions are proposed. Then the original problem is solved in a finite computational domain, which is equivalent to a variational problem. The numerical approximations for the original problem are obtained by solving the variational probiem with the finite element method. The numerical examples show that the artificial boundary conditions given in this work are very effective.  相似文献

Starting from the canonical boundary reduction, this paper studies an approximate differential boundary condition and an approximate integral boundary condition on an artificial boundary for the exterior problem of a harmonic equation, and gives an error estimate for the latter. This estimate reveals the relationship between the error and the approximate grade boundary conditions as well as the radius of the artificial boundary.  相似文献

This paper discusses the numerical solution of Burgers' equation on unbounded do-mains. Two artificial boundaries are introduced and boundary conditions are obtained onthe artificial boundaries, which are in nonlinear forms. Then the original problem is re-duced to an equivalent problem on a bounded domain. Finite difference method is appliedto the reduced problem, and some numerical examples are given to show the effectivenessof the new approach.  相似文献

In this work, we derive a stream function-vorticity variational formulation coupled with boundary integrals for the exterior Stokes problem in two dimensions, when the right-hand side has a bounded support. The stream function-vorticity formulation is expressed in a bounded region containing the support of the right-hand side, and the boundary conditions on the artificial boundary are obtained by an integral representation. We prove that this coupled formulation is equivalent to the original Stokes problem.  相似文献

We study a non-linear problem in pressure saturation modelling of a free boundary problem, arising in self-lubricating bearings, with Neumann boundary conditions for the pressure and a non-local constraint on the saturation variable, which indeed is a Lagrange multiplier. We prove an existence theorem by introducing an artificial time dependence and using the pseudo-characteristics discretization method and semi-coercive variational inequalities.  相似文献

The self-adjoint elliptic boundary-value problem in a domain with cylindrical outlets to infinity is considered. The notion of an augmented scattering matrix is introduced on the basis of artificial radiation conditions. Properties of the augmented scattering matrix are studied, and the relationship with the classical scattering matrix is demonstrated. The central point is the possibility of calculating the number of linearly independent solutions of a homogeneous problem with fixed rate of decrease at infinity by analyzing the spectrum of the augmented scattering matrix. This property is applied to the problem on diffraction on a periodic boundary as an example. Bibliography: 21 titles.  相似文献

To solve the time-dependent wave equation in an infinite two (three) dimensional domain a circular (spherical) artificial boundary is introduced to restrict the computational domain. To determine the nonreflecting boundary we solve the exterior Dirichlet problem which involves the inverse Fourier transform. The truncation of the continued fraction representation of the ratio of Hankel function, that appear in the inverse Fourier transform, provides a stable and numerically accurate approximation. Consequently, there is a sequence of boundary conditions in both two and three dimensions that are new. Furthermore, only the first derivatives in space and time appear and the coefficients are updated in a simple way from the previous time step. The accuracy of the boundary conditions is illustrated using a point source and the finite difference solution to a Dirichlet problem.  相似文献

This paper addresses the finite element method for the two-dimensional time-dependent Schrödinger equation on an infinite strip by using artificial boundary conditions. We first reduce the original problem into an initial-boundary value problem in a bounded domain by introducing a transparent boundary condition, then fully discretize this reduced problem by applying the Crank-Nicolson scheme in time and a bilinear or quadratic finite element approximation in space. This scheme, by a rigorous analysis, has been proved to be unconditionally stable and convergent, and its convergence order has also been obtained. Finally, two numerical examples are given to verify the accuracy of the scheme.  相似文献

The steady three-dimensional exterior flow of a viscoelastic non-Newtonian fluid is approximated by reducing the corresponding nonlinear elliptic–hyperbolic system to a bounded domain. On the truncation surface with a large radius R, nonlinear, local second-order artificial boundary conditions are constructed and a new concept of an artificial transport equation is introduced. Although the asymptotic structure of solutions at infinity is known, certain attributes cannot be found explicitly so that the artificial boundary conditions must be constructed with incomplete information on asymptotics. To show the existence of a solution to the approximation problem and to estimate the asymptotic precision, a general abstract scheme, adapted to the analysis of coupled systems of elliptic–hyperbolic type, is proposed. The error estimates, obtained in weighted Sobolev norms with arbitrarily large smoothness indices, prove an approximation of order O(R−2+ε), with any ε>0. Our approach, in contrast to other papers on artificial boundary conditions, does not use the standard assumptions on compactly supported right-hand side f, leads, in particular, to pointwise estimates and provides error bounds with constants independent of both R and f. In this paper, we obtain a new system of canonical integral equations for the plane elasticity problem over an exterior circular domain, and give its numerical solution. Coupling with the classical finite element method, it can be used for solving general plane elasticity exterior boundary value problems. This system of highly singular equations is also an exact boundary condition on the artificial boundary. It can be approximated by a series of nonsingular integral boundary conditions.  相似文献
