High-resolution neutron scattering experiments on optimally doped La2-xSrxCuO4 (x=0.16) reveal that the magnetic excitations are dispersive. The dispersion is the same as in YBa2Cu3O6.85, and is quantitatively related to that observed with charge sensitive probes. The associated velocity in La2-xSrxCuO4 is only weakly dependent on doping with a value close to the spin-wave velocity of the insulating (x=0) parent compound. In contrast with the insulator, the excitations broaden rapidly with increasing energy, forming a continuum at higher energy and bear a remarkable resemblance to multiparticle excitations observed in 1D S=1/2 antiferromagnets. The magnetic correlations are 2D, and so rule out the simplest scenarios where the copper oxide planes are subdivided into weakly interacting 1D magnets.  相似文献

We report measurements of the oxygen-isotope effect (OIE) on the in-plane penetration depth lambda(ab)(0) in underdoped La2-xSrxCuO4 single crystals. A highly sensitive magnetic torque sensor with a resolution of Deltatau approximately 10(-12) N m was used for the magnetic measurements on microcrystals with a mass of approximately 10 &mgr;g. The OIE on lambda(-2)(ab)(0) is found to be -10(2)% for x = 0.080 and -8(1)% for x = 0.086. It arises mainly from the oxygen-mass dependence of the in-plane effective mass m(*)(ab). The present results suggest that lattice vibrations are important for the occurrence of high temperature superconductivity.  相似文献

Inelastic light-scattering spectra of underdoped La2-xSrxCuO4 single crystals are presented which provide direct evidence of the formation of quasi-one-dimensional charged structures in the two-dimensional CuO2 planes. The stripes manifest themselves in a Drude-like peak at low energies and temperatures. The selection rules allow us to determine the orientation to be along the diagonals at x=0.02 and along the principal axes at x=0.10. The electron-lattice interaction determines the correlation length which turns out to be larger in compound classes with lower superconducting transition temperatures. Temperature is the only scale of the response at different doping levels demonstrating the importance of quantum critical behavior.  相似文献
