This paper reports on the preparation of a porous silicon-based material covalently functionalized with cavitand receptors suited for the detection of organophosphorus vapors. Two different isomeric cavitands, both containing one acid group at the upper rim, specifically designed for covalent anchoring on silicon, were grafted on H-terminated porous silicon (PSi) by thermal hydrosilylation. The covalently functionalized surfaces and their complexation properties were characterized by combining different analytical techniques, namely X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and mass spectroscopy analysis coupled with thermal desorption experiments. Complexation experiments were performed by exposing both active surfaces and a control surface consisting of PSi functionalized with a structurally similar but inactive methylene-bridged cavitand (MeCav) to dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP) vapors. Comparison between active and inactive surfaces demonstrated the recognition properties of the new surfaces. Finally, the nature of the involved interactions, the energetic differences between active and inactive surfaces toward DMMP complexation, and the comparison with a true nerve gas agent (sarin) were studied by DFT modeling. The results revealed the successful grafting reaction, the specific host-guest interactions of the PSi-bonded receptors, and the reversibility of the guest complexation.  相似文献

Turning molecular recognition into an effective mechanical response is critical for many applications ranging from molecular motors and responsive materials to sensors. Herein, we demonstrate how the energy of the molecular recognition between a supramolecular host and small alkylammonium salts can be harnessed to perform a nanomechanical task in a univocal way. Nanomechanical Si microcantilevers (MCs) functionalized by a film of tetra-phosphonate cavitands were employed to screen as guests the compounds of the butylammonium chloride series 1-4, which comprises a range of low molecular weight (LMW) molecules (molecular mass < 150 Da) that differ from each other by one or a few N-methyl groups (molecular mass 15 Da). The cavitand surface recognition of each individual guest drove a specific MC bending (from a few to several tens of nanometer), disclosing a direct, label-free, and real-time mean to sort them. The complexation preferences of tetraphosphonate cavitands toward ammonium chloride guests 1-4 were independently assessed by isothermal titration calorimetry. Both direct and displacement binding experiments concurred to define the following binding order in the alkylammonium series: 2 > 3 ≈ 1 ? 4. This trend is consistent with the number of interactions established by each guest with the host. The complementary ITC experiments showed that the host-guest complexation affinity in solution is transferred to the MC bending. These findings were benchmarked by implementing cavitand-functionalized MCs to discriminate sarcosine from glycine in water.  相似文献

The equilibrium geometries and electronic structures for a series of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) modified with phenylene were studied using the density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level. Of the four configurations of the phenylene-modified SWCNTs, the v-configuration in which the bond is perpendicular to the main axis of the SWCNT is the most thermodynamically stable. The increase in radii of the modified SWCNTs generally leads to a decrease in the energy gaps. The first absorptions in the electronic spectra of the modified SWCNTs compared with those in the electronic spectra of pristine SWCNTs are basically red-shifted. The chemical shifts of bridged carbon atoms connected with phenylene in the v-configuration are shifted downfield relative to those of the pristine SWCNTs. The aromaticity of the rings in SWCNTs is improved owing to the addition of phenylene.  相似文献

An attempt was made to debundle single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) bundle through intercalation techniques as in exfoliation of graphite. For this, SWCNT paper and lithium metal foil were simply short-circuited through electrolytes including lithium ions, and cathodic intercalation of lithium ions together with solvent molecules between the tubes that was expected to enlarge the spaces. It was found that the SWCNT paper could expand greatly through this technique using dimethyl sulfoxide electrolyte, and evidence of the intercalation reaction was confirmed by cyclic voltammetry. The paper after the debundling had some gaps between individual tubes in the bundles in the TEM picture, which were created through the present intercalation technique without any damage to the tubes themselves.  相似文献

A complementary double‐covalent functionalization of single‐wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) that involves both solubilizing ionic liquids and electroactive moieties is reported. Our strategy is a simple and efficient methodology based on the stepwise functionalization of the nanotube surface with two different organic moieties. In a first instance, oxidized SWCNTs are amidated with ionic liquid precursors, and further treated with n‐butyl bromide to afford SWCNTs functionalized with 1‐butylimidazolium bromide. This approach allows tuneable polarity induced by anion exchange, which has an effect on the relative solubility of the modified SWCNTs in water. Subsequently, a 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition reaction was performed to introduce the electron‐acceptor 11,11,12,12‐tetracyano‐9,10‐anthra‐para‐quinodimethane (TCAQ) unit on the SWCNTs. Furthermore, to evaluate the influence of the functional group position, the TCAQ electroactive molecule was anchored through an esterification reaction onto previously oxidized SWCNTs, followed by the Tour reaction to introduce the ionic liquid functions. IR and Raman spectroscopies, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), UV/Vis/NIR spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were employed and clearly confirmed the double‐covalent functionalization of the SWCNTs.  相似文献

Carbon nanotubes exhibit a range of chemistries, including mixtures of different nanotube diameters, lengths, and chiralities coupled with various concentrations of metallic and non-nanotube-carbon impurities. The performance of a given material for a specific application depends on the chemistry, which is dictated in large part by the manufacturing process. Here, thermogravimetric analysis is utilized as a bulk characterization method for determining nanotube quality after manufacturing. The application of thermogravimetric analysis for quantifying basic nanotube chemistry is described (e.g., carbon-to-metal content, homogeneity). In addition, extension of the method to analyze specific nanotube properties (i.e., length and diameter) is reported. Results indicate that thermogravimetric analysis is sufficiently sensitive to enable quality control at both the macro-scale (carbon-to-metal ratio) and nano-scale (single-walled to multi-walled) and can detect subtle modifications in manufacturing processes.  相似文献

The evaluation of the diameter‐dependent onset potential for the oxygenation of a SWCNT (single‐walled carbon nanotube) is an important issue because its chemical and physical properties, such as chemical reactivity, electronic conductance, and optical characteristics, would be changed. We investigated the diameter‐dependent onset potential for the oxygenation of SWCNTs in neutral aqueous solution by using in situ Raman spectroelectrochemical measurements, which was explained quantitatively in terms of the strain energy per carbon atom. These results will be useful for the fabrication of materials in which CNTs are used as a platform for applications such as fuel cells, capacitors, and Li‐ion batteries.  相似文献

We report on the extensive characterization of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) dispersed in a variety of surfactants, such as sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS), sodium cholate (SC), and three synthesized perylene-based surfactants, by using differential sedimentation in H(2)O and D(2)O. Multidimensional evaluation of the absorption profiles over radius, wavelength, and time allows the determination of the anhydrous specific volumes of the SWCNT-surfactant complexes as well as the concentration of the surfactant reservoir in free micelles with very slow sedimentation coefficients (<1 Svedberg). Among the perylene bisimide surfactants, the smallest derivative is densely adsorbed on the nanotube backbone with an anhydrous specific volume significantly above that of SC or SDBS. Bulky Newkome dendritic groups on one or both ends of the perylene moiety gradually reduce the adsorption density, in accord with the absolute adsorption between 0.66 and 1.7 mmol surfactant per gram SWCNTs. Furthermore, hydrodynamic analysis reveals that SDBS favors the "tails-on" configuration. The distribution of sedimentation coefficients of SWCNTs prepared by high-pressure carbon monoxide decomposition (HiPco) is broader and shifted to faster sedimentation than those prepared by using cobalt-molybdenum catalysis (CoMoCAT), which reflects the polydispersity in diameter and length.  相似文献

We present evidence from multiple characterization methods, such as emission spectroscopy, zeta potential, and analytical ultracentrifugation, to shed light on the adsorption behavior of synthesized perylene surfactants on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). On comparing dispersions of smaller-diameter SWCNTs prepared by using cobalt-molybdenum catalysis (CoMoCAT) with the larger-diameter SWCNTs prepared by high-pressure carbon monoxide decomposition (HiPco), we find that the CoMoCAT-perylene surfactant dispersions are characterized by more negative zeta potentials, and higher anhydrous specific volumes (the latter determined from the sedimentation coefficients by analytical ultracentrifugation), which indicates an increased packing density of the perylene surfactants on nanotubes of smaller diameter. This conclusion is further supported by the subsequent replacement of the perylene derivatives from the nanotube sidewall by sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS), which first occurs on the larger-diameter nanotubes. The enhanced adsorption affinity of the perylene surfactants towards smaller-diameter SWCNTs can be understood in terms of a change in the supramolecular arrangement of the perylene derivatives on the scaffold of the SWCNTs. These findings represent a significant step forward in understanding the noncovalent interaction of π-surfactants with carbon nanotubes, which will enable the design of novel surfactants with enhanced selectivity for certain nanotube species.  相似文献

The equilibrium geometries and electronic structures of a series of SWCNTs doped with a silicon atom were studied by using density function theory (DFT). The most stable doping site of silicon predicted at B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level was located near the boundary of the SWCNTs. The energy gaps of (3,3) C48, (3,3) C60 and (3,3) C72 were respectively decreased by 0.43, 0.25 and 0.14 eV after doping. Based on the B3LYP/6-31G(d) optimized geometries, the electronic spectra of the doped SWCNTs were computed using the INDO/CIS method. The first UV absorption at 973.9 nm of (5,5)-Si(L) (C59Si) compared with that at 937.5 nm of (5,5) (C60) was red-shifted. The 13C NMR spectra and nuclear independent chemical shifts (NICS) of the doped SWCNTs were investigated at B3LYP/6-31G(d) level. The chemical shift at 119.4 of the carbon atom bonded with the silicon atom in (3,3)-Si(L) (C59Si) in comparison with that at 144.1 of the same carbon atom in (3,3) (C60) moved upfield. The tendency of the aromaticity (NICS = −0.1) for (3,3)-Si(H) (C47Si) with respect to that of the anti-aromaticity (NICS = 6.0) for (3,3) (C48) was predicted.   相似文献

A simple linear relationship between the functionalization reaction energies for the exohedral monovalent addition on the surface of an ideal, infinitely long, single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) and the reciprocal SWCNT radius has been derived employing the hard?Csoft acid basis principle and the tight binding model. The slope of the derived linear relationship is a function of the effective number of valence electrons involved in the functionalization reaction. The intercept of the derived linear relationship, equal to the reaction energies on a planar graphite surface, is a function of the electrophilicity of the monovalent addend and of the condensed Fukui function of its reacting atom. The theoretical predictions of this simple formula are coherent with the computational density functional theory data reported in the literature.  相似文献

In this work, the ternary hybrid structure VSe2/SWCNTs/rGO is reported for supercapacitor applications. The ternary composite exhibits a high specific capacitance of 450 F g−1 in a symmetric cell configuration, with maximum energy density of 131.4 Wh kg−1 and power density of 27.49 kW kg−1. The ternary hybrid also shows a cyclic stability of 91 % after 5000 cycles. Extensive density functional theory (DFT) simulations on the structure as well as on the electronic properties of the binary hybrid structure VSe2/SWCNTs and the ternary hybrid structure VSe2/SWCNTs/rGO have been carried out. Due to a synergic effect, there are enhanced density of states near the Fermi level and higher quantum capacitance for the hybrid ternary structure compared to VSe2/SWCNTs, leading to higher energy and power density for VSe2/SWCNTs/rGO, supporting our experimental observation. Computed diffusion energy barrier of electrolyte ions (K+) predicts that ions move faster in the ternary structure, providing higher charge storage performance.  相似文献

This communication reports a promising platform for rapid, simple, direct, and ultrasensitive determination of serotonin. The method is related to integration of vertically aligned single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in electrochemical microfluidic devices. The required microfabrication protocol is simple and fast. In addition, the nanomaterial influenced remarkably the obtained limit-of-detection (LOD) values. Our system achieved a LOD of 0.2 nmol L(-1) for serotonin, to the best of our knowledge one of the lowest values reported in the literature.  相似文献

Covalent functionalization of diameter sorted SWCNTs with porphyrins (MP), and photochemistry to establish nanotube diameter-dependent charge separation efficiencies are reported. The MP-SWCNT(n,m) [M=2?H or Zn, and (n,m)=(7,6) or (6,5)] nanohybrids are characterized by a variety of spectroscopic, thermogravimetric, TEM imaging techniques, and also by DFT MO calculations. The thermogravimetric, Raman and fluorescence studies reveal the presence of a moderate number of porphyrins on the SWCNT surface. The MO results suggest charge separation (CS) via the excited state of MP. Time-resolved fluorescence studies reveal quenching of the singlet excited state of the MP with SWCNT(n,m), giving the rate constants of charge separation (k(CS) ) in the range of (4-5)×10(9) s(-1) . Nanosecond transient absorption measurements confirm the charge-separated radical cation and the radical anion as [MP(.+) -SWCNT(.-) ] with their characteristic absorption bands in the visible and near-IR regions. The charge separated states persist for about 70-100?ns thus giving an opportunity to utilize them to build photoelectrochemical cells, which allowed us to derive the structure-reactivity relationship between the nature of porphyrin and diameter of the employed nanotubes.  相似文献

The decomposition and thermal behavior of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET)/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) nanocomposites were studied using thermogravimetric (TG) analysis in air atmosphere. A series of PET/single-walled CNTs (SWCNTs) materials of varying nanoparticles concentration were prepared using the in situ polymerization technique. Transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy micrographs verified that the dispersion of the SWCNTs in the PET matrix was homogeneous, while some relatively small aggregates co-existed at higher filler concentration. Two-stage decomposition was observed in the experiments. During first stage, strong chemical bonds are broken, i.e., aliphatic bonds and benzyl ring containing molecules decompose into small molecules in the gaseous phase. During second stage, when temperature is higher, the remaining nanotubes along with the residues of the first stage are burned. Kissinger and Coats–Redfern (5, 10, 20, 50 K min?1) methods were applied to TG data to obtain kinetic parameters (activation energy, Arrhenius constant at 600 K and A factor) and Criado method to kinetics model analysis. In this kinetic model, energy activation is increasing with the increase of nanotubes concentration.  相似文献

The incorporation of single‐wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in cadmium arachidate film by means of the Langmuir‐Blodgett (LB) technique was investigated as a function of arachidic acid/SWCNT mass ratio at the air/water interface and in Langmuir‐Blodgett films. The behaviour at the air/water interface shows that SWCNTs act as an independent phase with respect to the cadmium arachidate. Deposition conditions are optimized when the weight ratio between the arachidic acid (AA) and SWCNTs is in the range 0.018:1 to 1:1. The general order of the LB multilayered structure was destroyed by the progressive density increase in SWCNT quantity as evidenced by X‐ray reflectivity (XRR) analysis. Scanning electron microscopy images indicated that when a multilayered structure was formed its layers consisted of SWCNT bundles stacked one over the other. Organic functionalization of carbon nanotube sidewalls is a tool of primary importance in material science and nanotechnology, equally from a fundamental and an applicative point of view. Here, an efficient and versatile approach for the organic/organometallic functionalization of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) capable of imparting multimodality to these fundamental nanostructures, is described. Our strategy takes advantage of well-established Cu-mediated acetylene-azide coupling (CuAAC) reactions applied to phenylazido-functionalized SWCNTs for their convenient homo-/heterodecoration with a number of organic/organometallic frameworks, or mixtures thereof, bearing terminal acetylene pendant arms. Phenylazido-decorated SWCNTs were prepared by chemoselective arylation of the CNT sidewalls with diazonium salts under mild conditions, and subsequently used for the copper-mediated cycloaddition protocol in the presence of terminal acetylenes. The latter reaction was performed in one step by using either single acetylene derivatives or equimolar mixtures of terminal alkynes bearing either similar functional groups (masked with orthogonally cleavable protecting groups) or easily distinguishable functionalities (on the basis of complementary analytical/spectroscopic techniques). All materials and intermediates were characterized with respect to their most relevant aspects/properties by TEM microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis coupled with MS analysis of volatiles (TG-MS), elemental analysis, cyclic voltammetry (CV), Raman and UV/Vis spectroscopy. The functional loading and related chemical grafting of both primary amino- and ferrocene-decorated SWCNTs were spectroscopically (UV/Vis, Kaiser test) and electrochemically (CV) determined, respectively.  相似文献

A new SnO_2-Fe_2O_3/SWCNTs(single-walled carbon nanotubes) ternary nanocomposite was first synthesized by a facile hydrothermal approach.SnO_2 and Fe_2O_3 nanoparticles(NPs) were homogeneously located on the surface of SWCNTs,as confirmed by X-ray diffraction(XRD),transmission electron microscope(TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX).Due to the synergistic effect of different components, the as synthesized SnO_2-Fe_2O_3/SWCNTs composite as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries exhibited excellent electrochemical performance with a high capacity of 692 mAh·g~(-1) which could be maintained after 50 cycles at 200 mA·g~(-1).Even at a high rate of2000 mA·g~(-1),the capacity was still remained at 656 mAh·g~(-1).  相似文献
