We investigate the interaction of a multilevel atom with a short femtosecond optical pulse beyond the scope of the rotating-wave approximation. We consider the behavior of a three-level atom under the action of two optical pulses resonant with two allowed transitions and a two-level atom under the action of a resonant optical pulse. It is shown that the imaginary part of the off-diagonal elements of the density matrix oscillates with high frequency due to the counter-rotating terms. It is shown also that an effective time-dependent addition to the Rabi frequency exists, which is of importance for ultrashort optical pulses.  相似文献

We develop a general theory of the quantum vacuum radiation generated by an arbitrary time modulation of the vacuum Rabi frequency of an intersubband transition in a doped quantum well system embedded in a planar microcavity. Both nonradiative and radiative losses are included within an input-output quantum Langevin framework. The intensity and the spectral signatures of the extra-cavity emission are characterized versus the modulation properties. For realistic parameters, the photon pair emission is predicted to largely exceed the blackbody radiation in the mid and far infrared. For strong and resonant modulation a parametric oscillation regime is achievable.  相似文献

An analytical formula with three-center terms has been proposed for the calculation of the dynamic spin susceptibility of electron-doped cuprates. The results of the calculation of the imaginary part of the susceptibility reproduce the main features of inelastic neutron scattering and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering. It has been shown that the high-frequency behavior of the dispersion of collective spin excitations is mainly determined by the parameters of the conduction band and hardly depends on the exchange coupling of copper spins. The spin and superconducting gap parameters, as well as correlation effects associated with the three-center terms, play the determining role in the formation of the spin response in the region Q ≈ (π, π).  相似文献

For a superconducting qubit driven to perform Rabi oscillations and coupled to a slow electromagnetic or nanomechanical oscillator we describe previously unexplored quantum optics effects. When the Rabi frequency is tuned to resonance with the oscillator, the latter can be driven far from equilibrium. Blue detuned driving leads to a population inversion in the qubit and a bistability with lasing behavior of the oscillator; for red detuning the qubit cools the oscillator. This behavior persists at the symmetry point where the qubit-oscillator coupling is quadratic and decoherence effects are minimized. There the system realizes a "single-atom-two-photon laser."  相似文献

We analysed the influence of inhomogenous microwave field on the coherence of atom ensembles. Two methods were proposed to suppress the dephasing generated by the inhomogenous Rabi frequency. One of them was realized by spin echo, and the other one was based on the identical spin rotation effect. The results of calculation showed that the contrast of signal acquired in experiment can be improved by the two methods. Their advantages and drawbacks were discussed. We hope they could be used to improve the contrast of experimental signal in the situation that the microwave fields are very inhomogenous. Finally, we discussed the case of continuous working microwave field and showed that the dipole force raised with the inhomogeneity can be eased by spin flip.  相似文献

We investigate the optical Rabi oscillations in a dual-mode slab waveguide that undergoes a spatial–temporal refractive index modulation. Frequency conversion is induced during Rabi oscillations since dynamic modulation is employed. We also show that the contrast of Rabi oscillations can be controlled by the initial phase of dynamic modulation, which can be tuned arbitrarily from zero to unity as the phase varies. The contrast of zero corresponds to the dynamic supermodes and unity refers to complete Rabi oscillations. It suggests that the phase can be a new degree of freedom to control optical Rabi oscillations. This study may find applications in optical sensors, switches and mode converters.  相似文献

动态光栅的瞬态特性影响了单纵模掺铒光纤激光器的稳定性. 提出一种利用铒离子瞬态效应,通过对写入光施加快速频率调制测量动态光栅瞬态反射谱的新方法. 测量了线性结构动态光栅的瞬态反射谱,研究了注入光功率与端面反射率 对动态光栅响应特性的影响.结果表明, 3 m长的掺铒光纤形成的动态光栅半带宽为30 MHz, 与稳态理论值符合较好.光栅瞬态反射率相对变化随注入光功率增加和端面反射率增加而减小, 在小注入功率或低端面反射率时,最大的反射率相对变化值约为4%. 光栅建立时间随注入光功率增加而减小,当注入光功率大于4倍饱和功率时,建立时间小于1 ms. 使用双波混频过程可解释这一实验规律.  相似文献

We propose a novel realization of Anderson localization in nonequilibrium states of ultracold atoms in an optical lattice. A Rabi pulse transfers part of the population to a different internal state with infinite effective mass. These frozen atoms create a quantum superposition of different disorder potentials, localizing the mobile atoms. For weakly interacting mobile atoms, Anderson localization is obtained. The localization length increases with increasing disorder and decreasing interaction strength, contrary to the expectation for equilibrium localization.  相似文献

We demonstrate that the temporal pulse phase remains essentially unaltered before separate phase characteristics are developed when propagating high-intensity pulses coherently on the exciton resonance of an optically thick semiconductor. This behavior is a clear manifestation of self-induced transmission and pulse breakup into soliton-like pulses due to Rabi flopping of the carrier density. Experiments using a novel fast-scan cross-correlation frequency-resolved optical gating (XFROG) method are in good agreement with numerical calculations based on the semiconductor Bloch equations.  相似文献

We present the results of an experiment for frequency and polarization dependence characterization of non-linear cross-phase-modulation (XPM) effects in optical fibers. The measurement technique is based on the direct analysis of high-resolution optical spectra of a signal wave that is phase modulated by an intensity-modulated pump wave. Measurement results provide experimental confirmation of the scalar character, over the whole resonant frequency range, of the electrostrictive contribution to the nonlinear refractive index. Also, the results confirm experimentally the relation describing the polarization dependence of the Kerr contribution to XPM in non-polarization-maintaining fibers.  相似文献

We study the all-optical time?control of the strong coupling between a single cascade three-level quantum emitter and a microcavity. We find that only specific arrival times of the control pulses succeed in switching off the Rabi oscillations. Depending on the arrival times of control pulses, a variety of exotic nonadiabatic cavity quantum electrodynamics effects can be observed. We show that control pulses with specific arrival times, performing which-path and quantum-eraser operations, are able to suddenly switch-off and on first-order coherence of cavity photons, without affecting their strong?coupling population dynamics.  相似文献

The absorption spectra of a weak field (Ω) probing the bistable behaviour of a homogeneously broadened medium (ω0) detuned with respect to the exciting laser light (ωL) has been investigated. A dispersion like structure superimposed on an inverted peak near the critical threshold is predicted. The frequency response of the differential gain amplifier is also obtained.  相似文献

In standard optical fibers with constant chromatic dispersion, modulational instability (MI) sidebands execute undesirable frequency shifts due to fiber losses. By means of a technique based on average-dispersion-decreasing dispersion-managed fibers, we achieve both complete suppression of the sideband frequency shifts and fine control of the MI frequencies, without any compromise in the MI power gain.  相似文献

We evaluated the accuracy of an optical frequency comb in optical fibers by measuring the frequency shift after a sideband from an electro-optic modulator had passed through the fiber. We found that a frequency drift of a few hertz was due largely to a variation in the ambient temperature that corresponded to an increase in the square root of the Allan variance to 0.66 Hz.  相似文献

We compared two methods for measuring large optical frequency differences: an optical frequency comb generator, which creates a large number of sidebands from a single-mode laser through electro-optic modulation, and an optical frequency interval divider chain, which divides a frequency gap successively by two until it becomes accessible to a radio-frequency counter. By locking two diode lasers to two modulation sidebands of a comb generator, ~1 THz apart, and measuring this interval with a chain of four phase-locked interval dividers, we demonstrate for the first time to our knowledge the accuracy of both techniques within an experimental limit of 6.8 x 10(-15).  相似文献
