for a cooler trap accommodating both electron and proton cooling, which will be a component of the TITAN ion-trap facility
under construction at TRIUMF for precision mass measurements of short-lived radioactive nuclei.

The highest precision in the determination of nuclear and atomic masses can be achieved by Penning trap mass spectrometry. The mass value is obtained through a measurement of the cyclotron frequency of the stored charged particle. Two different approaches are used at the Penning trap mass spectrometer TRIGA-TRAP for the mass determination: the destructive Time-Of-Flight Ion Cyclotron Resonance (TOF-ICR) technique and the non-destructive Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance (FT-ICR) method. New developments for both techniques are described, which will improve the detection efficiency and the suppression of contaminations in the case of TOF-ICR. The FT-ICR detection systems will allow for the investigation of an incoming ion bunch from a radioactive-beam facility on the one hand, and for the detection of a single singly charged ion in the Penning trap on the other hand. 相似文献

Test methods have to be developed by laboratories for official control to monitor possible misuse of veterinary drugs in animal productions, also through feeding stuff. A novel method for identification and quantification of levamisole in feeds by liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray mass spectrometry in an ion trap (LC/ESI-MS/MS) is herein described; after a single-step cleanup by liquid-liquid extraction from the feed and separation by reversed-phase liquid chromatography, levamisole was determined and unambiguously confirmed by tandem mass spectrometry, on the basis of two product ions. The method was in-house validated, according to the Regulation 882/2004/EC, evaluating trueness, repeatability, within-laboratory reproducibility, ruggedness, specificity, and the limit of quantification (LOQ). The method is reliable and specific for complete and complementary feeds for pigs, cattle, rabbits and poultry; very good mean recoveries (higher than 92 %) and precision (RSD values?15.2%) were attained. The LOQ at 2.0?mg/kg was verified. Moreover, we describe how the method was developed to support Italian Police investigations regarding illegal treatments of pigs; in this case, since the drug(s) added to the feed were unknown, a preliminary untargeted analysis was performed by full scan mass spectrometry on an ion trap, from 50 up to 2000?m/z; the presence of levamisole was hypothesised, on the basis of the most abundant ion and its fragmentation pattern. Designs of a quadrupole ion trap (QIT) as a source for time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry are evaluated for mass resolution, ion trapping, and laser activation of trapped ions. Comparisons are made with the standard hyperbolic electrode ion trap geometry for TOF mass analysis in both linear and reflectron modes. A parallel-plate design for the QIT is found to give significantly improved TOF mass spectrometer performance. Effects of ion temperature, trapped ion cloud size, mass, and extraction field on mass resolution are investigated in detail by simulation of the TOF peak profiles. Mass resolution (m/Δm) values of several thousand are predicted even at room temperature with moderate extraction fields for the optimized design. The optimized design also allows larger radial ion collection size compared with the hyperbolic ion trap, without compromising the mass resolution. The proposed design of the QIT also improves the ion-laser interaction volume and photon collection efficiency for fluorescence measurements on trapped ions. 相似文献

A technique is proposed for injection-seeding control of tunable lasers. It is based on a combination of successive external injection and intracavity self-injection of radiation when the active medium is pumped by dual-step pulses. The technique is tested both experimentally (in the case of Nd:YAG-laser-pumped pulsed dye lasers) and numerically, using a model developed by us. Full conversion of the broadband spectrum into the injected line is achieved for an output energy greater by a factor of about 50 than that managed by means of the traditional injection-seeding technique under identical conditions. 相似文献

We theoretically investigated the mass dependence of the sympathetic cooling rate of gas-phase ions trapped in a linear radio-frequency-quadrupole
ion trap. Using an a priori molecular dynamical calculation, tracing numerically with Newtonian equations of motion, we found
that ions with a mass greater than 0.54±0.04 times that of the laser-cooled ions are sympathetically cooled; otherwise, they
are heated. To understand the mass dependence obtained using the molecular-dynamical calculation, we made a heat-exchange
model of sympathetic cooling, which shows that the factor of 0.54±0.04 is a consequence of absence of micro-motion along the
axis of the linear ion trap.

介绍了为HL-2A 装置设计的引出束功率为1MW 的射频离子源研制情况。目前,在测试平台上,该离子源已经成功引出了束能量和束电流分别为35keV 和12.4A、束质子比为79%、脉宽为100ms 的氢离子束,达到了其设计束功率的44%。用红外热成像的方法测量了离子束能量密度分布。结果表明,在距离引出系统地电极 1.3m 处,束密度分布遵循高斯分布。引出束的最佳导流系数为1.689×10–6A•V-3/2 左右,随射频功率改变有较小的变化。根据这些实验结果,采取了相关改进措施来改善离子源的引出束性能。 相似文献

A decelerator will be installed at GSI in order to provide and study heavy nuclei without or with only few electrons at very
low energies or even at rest. Highly-charged ions will be produced by stripping at relativistic energies. After electron cooling
and deceleration in the Experimental Storage Ring (ESR) the ions are ejected out of the storage ring at 4 MeV/u and further
decelerated in a combination of linear accelerator structures operated in reverse. Finally, they are injected into a Penning
trap where the ions are cooled to 4 K by electron cooling in combination with resistive cooling. From here, the ions can be
transferred in a quasi DC or in a pulsed mode to different experimental setups. This article describes the technical concepts
of this project focused on the Penning trap.

In this note a simple idea is suggested to calculate the effect of damping on the ion motion in a Penning trap. The analysis
is restricted to the experimentally important special case that the axial motion (z-direction) is not coupled to that in the
xy-plane, so that both motions can be treated separately. The method views the cyclotron frequency ωc as a complex variable that can be continued analytically from real values (undamped case) into the complex plane. The power

The cluster size distribution (number of clusters versus number of atoms in the cluster) resulting from a simple nearest neighbor Bond Breaking Model (BBM) of Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy (SIMS) is studied for one- and two-dimensional and Bethe lattices. In one dimension, the distribution is monotonic. In two dimensions, however, irregularities can occur as a function of the probability β of breaking any given bond. These irregularities differentiate between square, honeycomb, and triangular lattices and are most pronounced if the overall probability of breaking any bond in the lattice is small. 相似文献
