We report a continuous-wave singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (SRO) with more than 12 W of idler power at 3414 nm when it was operated at 30°C. The SRO was directly pumped by a single-frequency, ytterbium-doped fiber laser with 49 W linear polarization pump powers, and based on 50 mm long periodically poled MgO:LiNbO3 crystal (PPMgLN) in two-mirror linear cavity with 30.5 μm grating period. It’s pump power at threshold was 5.4 W. The slope-efficiency and quantum-limited performance reached 26 and 79.2%, respectively. The beam polarization matched the ee + e interaction in crystal. The idler waves were temperature tuned in the range of 3654 to 3811 nm and 3248 to 3414 nm based on two 50 mm long PPMgLN with 29.5 and 30.5 μm grating period. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest continuouswave mid-IR output obtained for a fiber laser pumped optical parametric oscillator (OPO).  相似文献

We report the generation of tunable high-repetition-rate optical pulses in the mid-infrared using synchronously pumped parametric oscillation in periodically poled LiNbO3 (PPLN). Using a Kerr-lens-mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser as the pump source and a PPLN crystal incorporating grating periods of 21.0–22.4 μm, we have achieved wavelength conversion in the -–4 6μm spectral range in the mid-infrared. The use of a semi-monolithic cavity design and hemispherical focusing has permitted pulse generation in the strong idler absorption region of PPLN, resulting in a simple, compact, all-solid-state configuration with a pump power threshold as low as 17 mW and mid-infrared idler powers of up to 64 mW at 9% extraction efficiency. Signal output powers of up to 280 mW at 35% extraction efficiency are available over the -–1.004 1.140μm spectral range at 80.5 MHz and pulse repetition rates at harmonics of the fundamental frequency up to 322 MHz have also been obtained. An optical parametric gain bandwidth of 115 THz at full-width half maximum is generated from a picosecond Ti:sapphire pumped degenerate optical parametric generator. This ultrabroad bandwidth could be obtained by first identifying the wavelength where the nonlinear optical material has zero group-velocity dispersion (GVD). By pumping at half this wavelength the degenerate signal–idler pairs can accommodate ultrabroad bandwidths. The explanation for this is that the group velocities of the signal and the idlers are approximately matched and the GVD is small. However, in order to thoroughly investigate the degeneracy region around 1700 nm we fabricated several periodically poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) crystals with different periods, and also one periodically poled RbTiOPO4 (PPRTP). Both collinear and noncollinear configurations were employed for broadband parametric generation in this region. It was found that the optimum pump wavelength is in the region between 800 nm to 850 nm for PPKTP, and we could also conclude that a similar performance was found for PPRTP. This work will allow the design of optical parametric devices for generating few-cycle pulses in the spectral region between 1.1 μm and 3.8 μm. PACS 42.65.Re; 42.65.Ky; 42.65.-k  相似文献

The operation and characterization of a high-repetition-rate singly-resonant picosecond optical parametric oscillator based on the non-linear material KTiOAsO4 and synchronously pumped by a Kerr-lens-mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser at 81 MHz is described. By utilizing non-critical type II phase-matching in a 10 mm crystal, average near-infrared output powers of 403 mW have been generated at 31% extraction efficiency. The oscillator exhibits a pump power threshold of 230 mW and with the available mirror set can provide signal tuning over 1.116–1.281 μm and idler tuning over 2.260–3.160 μm by tuning the pump wavelength over 770–896 nm. Without dispersion compensation, near-transform-limited signal pulses with durations of 1.01–1.03 ps and idler pulses with 1.61–2.91 ps duration have been obtained for 1.2 ps input pump pulses. This revised version was published online in November 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

This paper presents a specially designed optical parametric oscillator (OPO) which achieved high-efficiency mid-infrared laser of 2.83 μm. The cascaded nonlinear interactions of OPO and optical parametric amplifier (OPA) were simultaneously realized in a single MgO:PPLN crystal. The signal oscillation of 1.70 μm was used to pump a secondary parametric process that resulted in amplification of the idler laser of 2.83 μm. When the MgO:PPLN crystal with a grating period of 31.2 μm was pumped by a 1.064 μm laser and operated at 148°C, the quasi-phase-matching of both OPO and OPA could be simultaneously achieved. Average output power of 7.68 W at 2.83 μm was obtained for 25 W of pump at 7 kHz. The power conversion efficiency of 2.83 μm laser was 30.7%, which was evidently higher than common OPOs.

We report a singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (SRO) based on a ZnGeP(2) crystal directly pumped by a lamp-pumped Q-switched CrTmHo:YAG laser. The IR was tunable from 4.7 to 7.8 microm via crystal angle tuning. A maximum optical to optical efficiency of 56% was obtained from the pump (2.09 microm) to total IR at a pump energy of 6.5 mJ. The corresponding idler energy was 1.45 mJ. The SRO was measured to have a slope efficiency of 64% and a threshold of 1 mJ. The spatial beam quality of the idler, characterized by the M(2) parameter, was 1.38 when the SRO was pumped at 2.5 times threshold. These results show that ZnGeP(2) optical parametric oscillators directly pumped by a CrTmHo:YAG laser can be operated efficiently, while maintaining good IR beam quality.  相似文献

We report a continuous-wave (CW) mid-infrared singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (SRO) based on periodically poled MgO-doped LiNbO3 (PPMgLN) pumped by a high power, single frequency fiber laser in master oscillator-power amplifier (MOPA) configuration at 1.064 μm. Using four-mirror ring OPO cavities, at the PPMgLN’s grating period of 30.5 μm and the temperature of 23°C, we achieved the maximum idler output power of 7.2 W at 3.4 μm when the pump power was 52.8 W. The total power-conversion efficiency from the pump to the idler in this experiment is about 13.6%, and corresponds to ∼44% of quantum-limited performance.  相似文献

We describe a compact all-solid-state continuous-wave singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (SRO) with a minimal pump-power requirement. The SRO is based on periodically poled LiNbO(3) as the nonlinear material and is pumped by a 1-W diode-pumped Nd:YVO(4) minilaser at 1.064 microm . By exploiting the intracavity pumping technique in a 50-mm crystal, we have achieved SRO operation threshold at a diode pump power of only 310 mW.At 1 W of input diode power, the SRO delivers 70 mW of output power in the nonresonant idler at 3.66 microm , at a photon conversion efficiency of 55%. Multiparameter tuning of the SRO yields a signal wavelength range from 1.45 to 1.60 microm and an idler wavelength range from 3.16 to 4.02 microm in the mid infrared. The device is characterized by robust turnkey operation and long-term amplitude-stable performance.  相似文献

We report on what is believed to be the first singly resonant cw optical parametric oscillator (SRO) that is directly pumped by a diode laser. The SRO consists of a 38-mm-long periodically poled LiNbO(3) crystal in a four-mirror signal-resonant ring cavity. Pumped by 2.5 W of 925-nm diode-laser radiation, the SRO generates 480 mW of single-frequency idler radiation at 2.1mum . The wavelengths of the signal and the idler output are tuned in the ranges of 1.55 to 1.70mum and 2.03 to 2.29mum, respectively, by tuning the wavelength of the diode laser from 924.0 to 925.4 nm.  相似文献

A CW seeded femtosecond optical parametric amplifier, a compromise between OPG/OPA and strongly seeded OPA configurations, has been demonstrated. An independent CW Nd: YAG laser with sub-watt power decreases the pump threshold of the OPA and improves the stability of the output pulses considerably. Output signal energies as high as 30 μJ with pulse durations less than 250 fs near 1 μm are reported. from this two-stage device.  相似文献

A continuous wave (CW), extra-cavity singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (SRO) has been demonstrated. The SRO was based on 5% Magnesium-Oxide doped periodically-poled Lithium Nio-bate (MgO:PPLN) pumped by a Yb fiber laser centered at 1064.7 nm. The SRO was able to generate light with idler wavelengths ranging from 2.9 to 4.1 μm. For a pump power of 15 W, the idler output power varied from 7.54 W at 3.03 μm to 1.04 W at 4.05 μm. The oscillation thresholds were 2.0 W at idler wavelength 3.03 μm and 7.0 W at 4.05 μm.  相似文献

We demonstrate wide, continuous tuning of the single-frequency idler wave of a cw singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (SRO). The SRO consists of a periodically poled LiNbO(3) crystal for quasi-phase matching in a four-mirror signal-resonant ring cavity. The SRO, excited by 2.25 W of 924-nm radiation from an InGaAs diode laser, generates as much as 200 mW of single-frequency 2.1-mum idler radiation. We tune the idler frequency continuously within a range as large as 56 GHz by changing the wavelength of the diode pump laser. The versatility of this continuously tunable single-frequency infrared source is demonstrated by recording of N(2)O rovibrational absorption lines near 2.1 mum.  相似文献

The experimental results of a high-power tunable mid-IR laser are presented. The optical parametric oscillator (OPO) with a 3-mm-thick PPMgCLN crystal was pumped by a 1.064 μm pulse laser. When the pump power of the 1.064 μm laser was 151 W at 10 kHz, and the operating temperature of the PPMgCLN with 5% MgO doping was 100°C, average output power of 23.7 W at 3.91 μm was obtained with a slope efficiency of 18.2% for the idler resonant OPO. The variation of the 3.91 μm output power was about ±4% in 10 min continuous operation. The beam quality factor M 2 was less than 2.6. The average output power of 27.4 W at 3.91 μm was also obtained with 151 W pump power and the slope efficiency of 20.9% for the signal resonant OPO by changing the coating parameters of the OPO cavity mirrors. The mid-IR wavelength tunability of 3.7–4.0 μm can be achieved by adjusting the temperature of a 29 μm period PPMgCLN crystal from 200 to 30°C.  相似文献

Investigation of spectral bandwidth of optical parametric amplification   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The spectral bandwidth of three-wave-mixing optical parametric amplification has been investigated. A general mathematical model for evaluating the spectral bandwidth of optical parametric amplification is developed with parametric bandwidth and gain bandwidth via three-wave noncollinear interactions. The spectral bandwidth is determined by expanding the wave-vector mismatch in a Taylor series and retaining terms through second order. The model takes into account the effects of crystal length, noncollinear angle, group velocity, group-velocity dispersion and gain coefficient. The relation between parametric bandwidth and gain bandwidth is clearly defined. The model is applied to a BBO OPA, a LBO OPA and a CLBO OPA. PACS 42.65.Yj; 42.65.Lm; 42.65.Ky; 42.60.By  相似文献

We report on what is to our knowledge the first optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by microsecond pulses from a wavelength-tunable solid-state laser. The singly resonant OPO (SRO) is based on a periodically poled LiNbO3 crystal and pumped with 2.1-micros-long pulses from an actively Q-switched Yb fiber laser. At an average fiber laser power of 3.6 W, the SRO generates 1.9-micros-long pulses with a repetition rate of 25 kHz and an average power of 560 mW at 3360 nm. The SRO was tuned from 1518 to 1634 nm (signal) and from 3145 to 3689 nm (idler) via the crystal temperature and poling period. By all-electronic tuning of the fiber laser wavelength over 19 nm, tuning of the mid-infrared idler wavelength over 195 nm was achieved.  相似文献

4 (KTA) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) synchronously pumped by a cw diode-pumped mode-locked Nd:YVO4 oscillator–amplifier system. The laser system (pumped by 84 W of cw 808-nm diode radiation) generates 7-ps-long pulses at 1.064 μm with a repetition rate of 83.4 MHz and an average power of 29 W. The OPO, synchronously pumped by the 1.064-μm laser pulses, consists of a 15-mm-long KTA crystal (cut for type II noncritical phase-matching) in a folded signal resonant linear resonator. The average powers of the 1.54-μm signal radiation and the 3.47-μm idler radiation are 14.6 W and 6.4 W, respectively. The total OPO output of 21 W corresponds to an internal efficiency of 75%. The experimental investigations include measurements of the OPO output power (and its dependence on the pump power, the transmission of the output coupler, and the resonator length) and of the pulse properties (such as pulse duration and spectral width). The measured results are in good agreement with the predictions of a numerical analysis based on a split-step Fourier method. Received: 4 May 1998  相似文献

A continuous wave optical parametric oscillator, generating up to 300 mW idler output in the 3–4 μm wavelength region, and pumped by a fiber-amplified DBR diode laser is used for trace gas detection by means of quartz-enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy (QEPAS). Mode-hop-free tuning of the OPO output over 5.2 cm-1 and continuous spectral coverage exceeding 16.5 cm-1 were achieved via electronic pump source tuning alone. Online monitoring of the idler wavelength, with feedback to the DBR diode laser, provided an automated closed-loop control allowing arbitrary idler wavelength selection within the pump tuning range and locking of the idler wavelength with a stability of 1.7×10-3 cm-1 over at least 30 min. Using this approach, we locked the idler wavelength at an ethane absorption peak and obtained QEPAS data to verify the linear response of the QEPAS signal at different ethane concentrations (100 ppbv-20 ppmv) and different power levels. The detection limit for ethane was determined to be 13 ppbv (20 s averaging), corresponding to a normalized noise equivalent absorption coefficient of 4.4×10-7 cm-1  W/Hz1/2. We report on an optical parametric amplifier (OPA) based on two potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) crystals in a walk-off compensating geometry. An Nd:YLF regenerative amplifier at a 1-kHz repetition rate serves as the pump source. The seed beam is delivered by a synchronously pumped frequency-stabilized optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN). At pump intensities of about 7 GW/cm2 large amplification factors of more than 104 were achieved, resulting in pulse energies of more than 450 μJ and 350 μJ for the signal and idler pulses, respectively, at a 1-kHz repetition rate. In the saturation regime the time–bandwidth product increases from two to three times the Fourier limit, with a pulse duration of 105 ps and a bandwidth of 12.7 GHz at the highest intensities employed. We report on an injection-seeded 9.5-W 82-MHz-repetition-rate picosecond optical parametric generator (OPG) based on a 55 mm long crystal of periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) with a quasi-phase-matching (QPM) grating period of 29.75 μm. The OPG is excited by a continuously diode pumped mode-locked picosecond Nd:YVO4 oscillator-amplifier system. The laser system generates 7 ps pulses with a repetition rate of 82.3 MHz and an average power of 24 W. Without injection-seeding the total average output power of the OPG is 8.9 W, which corresponds to an internal conversion efficiency of 50%. The wavelengths of the signal and idler waves were tuned in the range 1.57–1.64 μm and 3.03–3.3 μm, respectively, by changing the crystal temperature from 150 °C to 250 °C. Injection seeding of the OPG at 1.58 μm with 4 mW of single frequency continuous-wave radiation of a distributed-feedback (DFB) diode laser increases the OPG output to 9.5 W (53% conversion efficiency). The injection seeding increases the pulse duration and reduces the spectral bandwidth. When pumped by 10 W of 1.06 μm laser radiation, the duration of the signal pulses increased from 3.6 ps to 5.5 ps while the spectral bandwidth is reduced from 4.5 nm to 0.85 nm. Seeding thus improved the time-bandwidth product from 1.98 to a value of 0.56, much closer to the Fourier limit. Received: 29 April 2002 / Published online: 8 August 2002  相似文献
