An exact solution of the heat transfer problem for a uniform air stream impinging on a rotating disk is found. By introducing self-similar radial velocity and temperature profiles, the problem is reduced to a system of ordinary differential equations which are solved numerically. The Nusselt numbers are calculated for Prandtl numbers equal to 1 and 0.71 and various ratios of the free-stream velocity to the disk rotation velocity. The limits of the flow regime in which the heat transfer is determined solely by the impact jet parameters are found. The results are compared with experimental data for the stagnation point.  相似文献

A three-dimensional numerical study on the flow and heat transfer characteristics over a rotating disk surface with discrete pins was conducted by the use of RNG k–ε turbulent model. And some experiments were also made for validation. The effects of rotating angular speed and pin configuration on the temperature maps and convective heat transfer characteristics on the rotating surface were analyzed. As the increase of rotating velocity, the impingement of pumping jet on the centre of rotating disk becomes stronger and the transition from laminar to turbulent occurs at the outer radius of rotating disk, which resulting in heat transfer enhancement. The pins on the disk make the pumping action of a rotating disk weaker. Simultaneously, they also act as perturbing elements to the cyclone flow near the rotating disk surface, making the overall heat transfer to be enhanced. The needle pins have higher convective heat transfer capacity than the discrete ring pins with the same extend pin areas.  相似文献

Heat transfer from an obliquely impinging circular, air jet to a flat plate   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
A series of experiments was conducted for the measurement of local convective heat transfer coefficients for an obliquely impinging circular air jet to a flat plate. In the experiments, the oblique angles selected were 90°, 75°, 60° and 45°, with 90° being a vertical jet. Two different Reynolds numbers of 10,000 and 23,000 were considered for the purpose of comparison with previous data available in the literature. Another parameter varied in the measurements was the dimensionless jet-to-plate distance, L/D. Four values of L/D(2, 4, 7, and 10) were considered in the experiments. The experiments were conducted using the preheated wall transient liquid-crystal technique. Liquid-crystal color changes were recorded with a video system. Local convective heat transfer coefficients were obtained through the surface transient temperatures that were related to the recorded color information. Detailed local heat transfer coefficients were presented and discussed in relation to the asymmetric wall jet upon impingement of the jet flow. Results of experiments show that, for a given flow situation, the point of maximum heat transfer shifts away from the geometrical impingement point toward the compression side of the wall jet on the axis of symmetry. The shift is more pronounced with a smaller oblique angle (larger jet inclination) and a smaller jet-to-plate distance. Comparisons of experimental results with existing heat transfer data for both obliquely impinging jets and vertical impinging jets are made. The effect of oblique angles on heat transfer was assessed.  相似文献

An experimental study was performed to characterize the boiling heat transfer of impinging circular submerged jets on simulated microelectronic chips with a nominal area of 5 mm × 5 mm. The heat transfer modes included natural convection, partially developed nucleate boiling, fully developed nucleate boiling and critical heat flux. The study included the effects of jet parameters and fluid subcooling on the nucleate boiling. The results showed that the nucleate boiling data varied only with fluid subcooling regardless of jet parameters and that both the pool and impingement nucleate boiling curves at the same subcooling condition were well correlated. The high heat flux portions of the boiling curves with jet exit velocities greater than 10 m/s were corrected for the elevated saturation temperature. A new expression was developed with an interpolation method to construct the partially developed nucleate boiling curve.  相似文献

The present paper investigates the dynamics of a laminar plane jet impinging on a flat plate in a channel. An experimental parametric study is carried out to determine the flow regimes at different levels of confinement and Reynolds numbers. For very confined jets, the flow is steady whatever the Reynolds number. The overall structure of the flow is symmetric with respect to the jet axis and is characterized by the presence of recirculation zones at the channel walls. The dynamics is radically different for less confined jets. Above a critical Reynolds number, the flow bifurcates in the form of an oscillating flapping mode of the impinging jet. Analyses of the experimental results provide with a quantitative characterization of this regime in terms of amplitude, wavelength and frequency. This self-oscillating bifurcated flow induces strong sweepings of the target plate by the jet and intense vortex dipole ejections from the impacted wall. Such a regime is expected to be particularly useful in the enhancement of the local heat transfer at relatively low cost in terms of flow rate.  相似文献

The aeroacoustic noise generated by a high speed, planar gas jet impinging on a flat plate is investigated experimentally. The jet used in this study is typical of those commonly found in industrial applications such as in various coating control and heat transfer processes. Normal jet impingement on the plate is found to generate strong acoustic tones over a wide range of impingement distances and jet velocities. The characteristics of these tones, as a function of the jet velocity and impingement distance, are quantified. Phase and amplitude measurements of the pressure fluctuations on the impingement plate indicate that the acoustic tones are generated by an antisymmetric instability mode of the jet oscillation. The effect of plate inclination in both the transverse and span-wise directions, with respect to the incident jet, is also studied. The jet-plate tone is found to be much more sensitive to changes in the span-wise plate inclination than to changes in the transverse inclination, but in both cases, a complete suppression of the tone is found to be possible.  相似文献

High velocity impinging air jets are commonly used for heating, cooling and drying, etc. because of the high heat and mass transfer coefficients which are developed in the impingement region. In order to provide data for the designers of industrial equipment, a variety of slot nozzles were tested to determine the effect on heat transfer of both nozzle shape and slot width. A large multi-nozzle rig was also used to measure average heat and mass transfer characteristics under arrays of both slot nozzles and circular holes. As a necessary preliminary to the heat transfer investigation, the discharge coefficients of the nozzles were measured. Then, the experimental results are compared with the simplified flow model. A good agreement was found between the theoretical and experimental results. From the tests, it was also found that the heat transfer results from differently shaped nozzles could be satisfactorily correlated provided that the effective slot width or hole diameter was used to characterize the nozzle shapes.  相似文献

The flow structure and heat transfer of a mist jet with a low mass concentration of droplets (within 1%) impinging onto a flat surface aligned normal to the jet are studied numerically. The mathematical model is based on solving a system of Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations for a two-phase flow with the kinetic equation of the probability density function for coordinates, velocity, and temperature of particles. Addition of droplets is demonstrated to enhance heat transfer substantially, as compared with an impinging single-phase air jet in the region directly adjacent to the stagnation point of the jet.  相似文献

Heat transfer from an open-wedge cavity to a symmetrically impinging slot air jet is investigated at the present study. The effect of the cavity angle was mainly examined on the Nusselt number distribution. Based on the results, heat transfer was generally poor at the vicinity of the apex, rising to form a maximum at the impingement and then followed by a moderate decline at further distances. The region of maximum heat transfer on the surfaces shifted outward the cavity as the cavity angle was decreased. Also, average Nusselt number over an effective length of the surface remained almost constant and independent of the cavity angle for a specified jet Reynolds number and nozzle-to-apex spacing.  相似文献

This paper describes an experimental investigation at Reynolds number equal to 5000 on circular and chevron impinging jets by means of time-resolved tomographic particle image velocimetry (TR-TOMO PIV) and infrared (IR) thermography. TR-TOMO PIV experiments are performed at kilo-hertz repetition rate in a tailored water jet facility where a plate is placed at a distance of 4 diameters from the nozzle exit. Using air as working fluid, time-averaged convective heat transfer is measured on the impinged plate by means of IR thermography with the heated-thin-foil heat transfer sensor for nozzle-to-plate distances ranging from 2 to 10 diameters. The circular impingement shows the shedding and pairing of axisymmetric toroidal vortices with the later growth of azimuthal instabilities and counter-rotating streamwise vortices. In the chevron case, instead, the azimuthal coherence is replaced by counter-rotating pairs of streamwise vortices that develop from the chevron notches. The heat transfer performances of the chevron impingement are compared with those of the circular one, analyzing the influence of the nozzle-to-plate distance on the distribution of Nusselt number. The chevron configuration leads to enhanced heat transfer performances for all the nozzle-to-plate distances hereby investigated with improvements up to 44% at the center of the impinged area for nozzle-to-plate distance of 4. Such enhancements are discussed in relation to the streamwise structures that, compared with the toroidal vortices, are associated with an earlier penetration of turbulence towards the jet axis and a higher arrival speed.  相似文献

A computational investigation is carried out to study the flow and heat transfer from a row of circular jets impinging on a concave surface. The computational domain simulates the impingement cooling zone of a gas turbine nozzle guide vane. The parameters, which are varied in the study include jet Reynolds number (Re d = 5000–67800), inter-jet distance to jet diameter ratio (c/d = 3.33 and 4.67) and target plate distance to jet diameter ratio (H/d = 1, 3 and 4). The flow field, predicted with K-ω turbulence model and using Fluent 6.2.16, is characterized with the presence of a pair of counter rotating vortices, an upwash fountain flow and entrainment. The local pressure coefficient and Nusselt number variations along the concave plate are presented and these values are found to under predict the available experimental data by about 12%.  相似文献

The variations of flow structure and heat transfer characteristics of impinging air jets with respect to mesh solidity are compared for two mesh screen locations at small nozzle-to-plate spacings. Results show that the uniform incoming flow structure produces higher heat transfer rates in the impingement region. The heat transfer enhancement largely depends on nozzle-to-plate spacing, mesh solidity, and jet Reynolds number. The mechanism of heat transfer enhancement is analyzed in light of the field synergy principle.  相似文献

A series of experiments were carried out to determine the heat transfer characteristics of a round, premixed butane/air flame jet impinging upwards on an inclined flat plate, at different angles of incidence. The flame was fixed with an equivalence ratio of 1.0, a Reynolds number of 2500 and a plate-to-nozzle distance of 5d, while the inclination angles chosen for investigation were 57°, 67°, 80° and 90°. It was found that the location of the maximum heat flux point would be shifted away from the geometrical impingement point by reducing the angle of incidence. Decreasing the angle of incidence also enhanced the maximum local heat flux, while reduced the average heat transfer. The present study presented the effect of angle of incidence on the heat transfer characteristics of an impinging butane/air flame jet, which had been rarely reported in previous similar studies.  The effect of jet inclination of the local heat transfer under an obliquely impinging round air jet striking on isothermal circular cylinder is experimentally investigated. The circumferential heat transfer distribution as well as axial Nusselt number is measured. The considered parameters are jet Reynolds number in range of 3800–40,000, and jet inclination angle, ranging from 90 to 20. The experiments are carried out for nozzle sizes, d=3, 5 and 7 mm, and separation distance from 7 to 30 of the nozzle diameter. The output results indicated that the point of maximum heat transfer along the x-axis is shifted upstream and the local heat transfer distribution changed as a function of jet inclination. The magnitude of the shift was found to be significantly higher than that observe for a flat plate. The increasing inclination caused increasing asymmetry around the point of maximum heat transfer, with the upstream side of heat transfer profile dropping off more rapidly than the downstream side. Correlations of both the magnitude and shift of maximum heat transfer point are presented. The surface average heat transfer rate is calculated and compared with the normal impingement. We present the results of a study of turbulent drag reduction in a small circulating loop using surfactant solutions with excess counterion. In addition, these solutions were used in measurements of heat transfer, both in pipe flow and in an impinging jet. Both frictional drag and heat transfer were reduced in the pipe flow experiments. Measurements of heat transfer in the impinging jet revealed a dependence on the molar concentration ratio of the counterion. When the counterion was added at a molar concentration 30 times higher than that of the surfactant, the resulting surfactant solution did not reduce the rate of heat transfer in the impinging jet. By using this surfactant system in an impinging jet, we show both a reduction in pipe friction and normal heat transfer potential in a circulating heat exchange system. In order to investigate this difference in heat transfer between pipe flows and impinging jet flows, a comparison was made of the wall shear stress between these two flow regimes. The estimated wall shear stress was of the same order in both flows, and thus was not considered to be the primary cause of the difference in heat transfer. It is instead suggested that the micellar structure of the surfactant is influenced by a compressive deformation of the impinging flow in a manner that is different from the shear deformation observed in pipe flow.  相似文献

Jet impingement boiling is very efficient in cooling of hot surfaces as a part of the impinging liquid evaporates. Because of its importance to many cooling procedures, investigations on basic mechanisms of jet impingement boiling heat transfer are needed. Until now, most of the experimental studies, carried out under steady-state conditions, used a heat flux controlled system and were limited by the critical heat flux (CHF). The present study focuses on steady-state experiments along the entire boiling curve for hot plate temperatures of up to 700°C. A test section has been built up simulating a hot plate. It is divided into 8 independently heated modules of 10 mm length to enable local heat transfer measurements. By means of temperature controlled systems for each module local steady-state experiments in the whole range between single phase heat transfer and film boiling are possible. By solving the two dimensional inverse heat conduction problem, the local heat flux and the corresponding wall temperature on the surface of each module can be computed. The measurements show important differences between boiling curves measured at the stagnation line and those obtained in the parallel flow region. At the stagnation line, the transition boiling regime is characterised by very high heat fluxes, extended to large wall superheats. Inversely, boiling curves in the parallel flow region are very near to classical ones obtained for forced convection boiling. The analysis of temperature fluctuations measured at a depth of 0.8 mm from the boiling surface enables some conclusions on the boiling mechanism in the different boiling regimes.  相似文献

The application of an impinging sweeping jet, which oscillates periodically with a large angle, to convective heat transfer has received attention owing to its capability to provide a more spatially uniform and enhanced heat removal rate when compared to a steady jet. Herein, we study how the surface curvature affects the heat transfer performance of a sweeping jet and couple it with the representative flow characteristics. Heat transfer measurement and quantitative flow visualization are conducted experimentally for concave and convex surfaces as well as a flat surface. Whereas concave surfaces have a better heat transfer rate than a flat surface, the enhancement of the heat transfer is relatively small for a convex surface. For both concave and convex surfaces, the Nusselt number does not increase monotonically with the curvature magnitude but has a peak for a moderate curvature. The variation in heat transfer performance with the surface curvature is correlated with the phase-averaged velocity profile of the wall jet deflected after an impingement and the turbulence kinetic energy inside the jet. For both concave and convex surfaces, the wall jet becomes thinner than a flat surface in general, which contributes to improved heat transfer. However, whereas the turbulence kinetic energy is significantly larger for a concave surface of a moderate curvature than that of a flat surface, the turbulence kinetic energy for a convex surface is reduced from that of a flat surface, resulting in degradation of the heat transfer performance.  相似文献

Current work presents the comparison of the cooling characteristics of roughened and smooth heated surfaces subjected to co-axial impinging jet. The work fluid is air and the data runs are performed for jet Reynolds numbers for 10,000, 20,000 and 40,000, and non-dimensional surface to jet exit spacing, H/D, from 1 to 10. The co-axial jet configuration is based on a fully developed pipe flow encountering a double-pipe arrangement and splitting between the two pipes. The inner to outer diameter ratio is 0.5. A straight pipe without inner section is used as the circular jet. The impingement of circular jets to the roughened and smooth surfaces is also performed for comparison. Average Nusslet numbers were obtained to show the heat transfer enhancement from the surface. A good agreement between the literature and present paper was obtained. As a result, average Nusselt number with co-axial jet impingement to the roughened surface increased by up to 27% comparing to the circular jet impingement. In addition, the average Nusselt number increased with roughened surface by up to 6% over the whole surface area, comparing to the smooth surface.  相似文献
