Exact solutions for three canonical flow problems of a dipolar fluid are obtained: (i) The flow of a dipolar fluid due to a suddenly accelerated plate, (ii) The flow generated by periodic oscillation of a plate, (iii) The flow due to plate oscillation in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The solutions of some interesting flows caused by an arbitrary velocity of the plate and of certain special oscillations are also obtained.  相似文献

Based on the generalized England-Spencer plate theory, the equilibrium of a transversely isotropic functionally graded plate containing an elastic inclusion is studied. The general solutions of the governing equations are expressed by four analytic functions α(ζ), β(ζ), φ(ζ), and ψ(ζ) when no transverse forces are acting on the surfaces of the plate. Axisymmetric problems of a functionally graded circular plate and an infinite func-tionally graded plate containing a circular hole subject to loads applied on the cylindrical boundaries of the plate are firstly investigated. On this basis, the three-dimensional (3D) elasticity solutions are then obtained for a functionally graded infinite plate containing an elastic circular inclusion. When the material is degenerated into the homogeneous one, the present elasticity solutions are exactly the same as the ones obtained based on the plane stress elasticity, thus validating the present analysis in a certain sense.  相似文献

The analytical solutions of the mode I stress intensity factor for spot welds in lap-shear specimens are investigated based on the classical Kirchhoff plate theory for linear elastic materials. First, closed-form solutions for an infinite plate containing a rigid inclusion under counter bending conditions are derived. The development of the closed-form solutions is then used as a guide to develop approximate closed-form solutions for a finite square plate containing a rigid inclusion under counter bending conditions. Based on the J integral, the closed-form solutions are used to develop the analytical solutions of the mode I stress intensity factor for spot welds in lap-shear specimens of large and finite sizes. The analytical solutions of the mode I stress intensity factor based on the solutions for infinite and finite square plates with an inclusion are compared with the results of the three-dimensional finite element computations of lap-shear specimens with various ratios of the specimen half width to the nugget radius. The results indicate that the mode I stress intensity factor solution based on the finite square plate model with an inclusion agrees well with the computational results for lap-shear specimens for the ratio of the half specimen width to the nugget radius between 4 and 15. Finally, a set of the closed-form stress intensity factor solutions for lap-shear specimens at the critical locations are proposed for future applications.  相似文献

This study is concerned with the elastic bending problem of a class of annular sectorial plates whose radial edges are simply supported. Exact bending relationships between the Mindlin plate results and the corresponding Kirchhoff plate solutions have been derived based on the concept of load equivalence. These bending relationships facilitate the deduction of thick (Mindlin) plate results from the corresponding classical thin (Kirchhoff) plate solutions, thus bypassing the need to solve the more complicated governing equations of thick plates. The correctness of the relationships is established by solving the bending problem of annular sectorial plates under a uniformly distributed load and comparing the results with existing thick plate solutions.  相似文献

A viscoplastic, or yield-stress, liquid occupies the space between two infinite parallel plates. Initially the whole system is at rest. The lower plate is suddenly jerked into motion with given speed or shear stress, while the upper plate is kept fixed. The flow consists of two regions; (1) a lower sheared region bounded above by the yield surface, (2) an upper unyielded region bounded below by the yield surface. The yield surface propagates to the upper plate as time proceeds. We first consider the equivalent one plate problem of flow over a jerked plate, and find similarity solutions and small time asymptotic solutions for prescribed shear and speed cases respectively. These solutions are used as initial solutions for the two plate case. The motion of the yield surface and the time taken for the entire material to yield are investigated. The problems considered here are two dimensional representations of some control devices, for example the light duty clutch, which consists of two corotating, coaxial discs separated by a layer of electrorheological material. In this application it is useful to know the time taken for all the material to yield.  相似文献

In the present paper, closed form singular solutions for an infinite anisotropic plate with an elliptic hole or crack are derived based on the Stroh-type formalism for the general anisotropic plate. With the solutions, the hoop stresses and hoop moments around the elliptic hole as well as the stress intensity factors at the crack tip under concentrated in-plane stresses and bending moments are obtained. The singular solutions can be used for approximate analysis of an anisotropic plate weakened by a hole or a crack under concentrated forces and moments.They can also be used as fundamental solutions of boundary integral equations in BEM analysis for anisotropic plates with holes or cracks under general force and boundary conditions.  相似文献

Based on the mathematical similarity of the axisymmetric eigenvalue problems of a circular plate between the classical plate theory(CPT), the first-order shear deformation plate theory(FPT) and the Reddy's third-order shear deformation plate theory (RPT), analytical relations between the eigenvalues of circular plate based on various plate theories are investigated. In the present paper, the eigenvalue problem is transformed to solve an algebra equation. Analytical relationships that are expressed explicitly between various theories are presented. Therefore, from these relationships one can easily obtain the exact RPT and FPT solutions of critical buckling load and natural frequency for a circular plate with CPT solutions. The relationships are useful for engineering application, and can be used to check the validity, convergence and accuracy of numerical results for the eigenvalue problem of plates.  相似文献

An initial value investigation is made of the motion of an incompressible, viscous conducting fluid with embedded small spherical particles bounded by an infinite rigid non-conducting plate. Both the plate and the fluid are in a state of solid body rotation with constant angular velocity about an axis normal to the plate. The flow is generated in the fluid-particle system due to non-torsional oscillations of a given frequency superimposed on the plate in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The operational method is used to derive exact solutions for the fluid and the particle velocities, and the wall shear stress. The small and the large time behaviour of the solutions is discussed in some detail. The ultimate steady-state solutions and the structure of the associated boundary layers are determined with physical implications. It is shown that rotation and magnetic field affect the motion of the fluid relatively earlier than that of the particles when the time is small. The motion for large times is set up through inertial oscillations of frequency equal to twice the angular velocity of rotation. The ultimate boundary layers are established through inertial oscillations. The shear stress at the plate is calculated for all values of the frequency parameter. The small and large-time behaviour of the shear stress is discussed. The exact solutions for the velocity of fluid and the wall shear stress are evaluated numerically for the case of an impulsively moved plate. It is found that the drag and the lateral stress on the plate fluctuate during the non-equilibrium process of relaxation if the rotation is large. The present analysis is very general in the sense that many known results in various configurations are found to follow as special cases.  相似文献

The present paper uses a recently developed technique to obtain solutions for an elastic plate acted upon by loads with finite characteristic dimensions. Exact two dimensional transform solutions are derived for a plate suddenly loaded on one of its bounding surfaces. The transform solutions for a general load are rearranged into infinite sums representing multiply-reflected shear and dilatational waves. The interpretation of the infinite sums is verified by ray tracing. The final expressions are used to deduce the Green's function for the velocity. Numerical results are presented for a step function input.  相似文献

The classical solution of Levy's plate problem breaks down for a critical plate angle, with both stress and displacement fields becoming unbounded throughout the plate. The same sort of paradoxical response occurs in traditional solutions for other critical angles if the pressure in Levy's original problem is replaced by a constant shear traction. These breakdowns can be rectified by suitably supplementing classical fields. In this note, a further generalization of Levy's problem is considered. This entails clamping the plate edge without applied tractions. Critical angles for which traditional analysis breaks down are identified, and new solutions are developed for these angles. Transient wave propagation of isotropic thin plates using a higher-order plate theory is presented in this paper. The aim of this investigation is to assess the applicability of the higher-order plate theory in describing wave behavior of isotropic plates at higher frequencies. Both extensional and flexural waves are considered. A complete discussion of dispersion of isotropic plates is first investigated. All the wave modes and wave behavior for each mode in the low and high-frequency ranges are provided in detail. Using the dispersion relation and integral transforms, exact integral solutions for an isotropic plate subjected to pure impulse load and a number of wave excitations based on the higher-order theory are obtained and asymptotic solutions which highlight the physics of waves are also presented. The axisymmetric three-dimensional analytical solutions of linear wave equations are also presented for comparison. Results show that the higher-order theory can predict the wave behavior closely with exact linear wave solutions at higher frequencies.  相似文献

Laminar boundary layers generated by power-law plate stretching with cross flows are studied. Only the stretching solutions of Banks [10] are considered, those being bounded by exponentially stretched plates. In one case the cross flow is generated by a uniform transverse stream far above the stretching plate or a wall moving with uniform transverse velocity. Two other cases deal with cross flows generated by transverse shearing motions of the surface. Possible two parameter solutions appear, but here we present two one-parameter families of cross flow solutions generated by transverse plate shearing motion. Streamwise and transverse shear stresses and velocity profiles are displayed in graphical form.  相似文献

In recent years, a series of papers have appeared on algebraic relationships between the solutions (e.g., deflections, buckling loads and frequencies) of a given higher-order plate theory and the classical plate theory. The bending relationships, for example, can be used to generate the transverse deflection of a plate according to the particular higher-order theory from the known deflection of the same problem according to the classical plate theory. In the present study relationships between the bending solutions of several higher-order plate theories and the classical plate theory are obtained in a canonical form (i.e., one set of relationships contain several theories and they can be specialized to a specific theory by assigning values to the constants appearing in the relationships). Numerical examples of bending solutions for rectangular plates with various boundary conditions are presented to show how the relations can be used to determine the deflections and bending moments for various theories. The relationships are validated by comparing the numerical results obtained using the relationships for the Mindlin plate theory against those computed using the ABAQUS finite element program.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the bending problem of Lévy plates which are simply supported on two opposite edges with any combination of simply supported, clamped or free conditions at the remaining two edges. This study attempts to solve thick Lévy plate problems in a novel way by establishing bending relationships that allow the prediction of Mindlin plate results using the corresponding Kirchhoff solutions. Based on the concept of load equivalence, these relationships obviate the need for complicated thick plate analyses that involve significant computation time and effort. Numerical plate solutions are then determined from these relationships and the validity of these results is verified using other known results and those generated using the abaqus software. It is through this study that the only analytical Mindlin plate solutions by Cooke and Levinson (Int. J. Mech. Sci. 25 (1983) 207) are found to contain errors. In this study, it is found that there are important distinctions between the Mindlin and Reissner plate theories. These differences will also be substantiated by numerical comparison.  相似文献

The unsteady stagnation-point flow of a viscous fluid impinging on an infinite plate in the presence of a transverse magnetic field is examined and solutions are obtained. It is assumed that the infinite plate at y=0 is making harmonic oscillations in its own plane. A finite difference technique is employed and solutions for small and large frequencies of the oscillations are obtained for various values of the Hartmann's number.  相似文献
