In this talk, the interaction of a single photon injected to a single atom is studied, for which initially the photon is uncorrelated with the atom. The spontaneous emitted photon will then evolve to be entangled with the atom on their continuous kinetic variables (momentum) in the process of resonant scattering. We find the relations between the entanglement and their physical control parameters (such as the linewidth of the injected photon wave packet, and that of the atomic wave packet, etc. ), which indicates that high entanglement can be reached by broadening the scale of the atomic wave or squeezing the linewidth of the incident single-photon pulse.  相似文献

Polarization properties of single photons emitted by optical pumping from a single quantum dot ( QD) are studied by using a four-level system model. The model is capable of explaining the polarization uncertainty observed in single photon emission experiments. It is found that the dependence of photon emission efficiency and polarization visibility on pump power are opposite in general cases. By employing QDs with small size and strong carrier confinement, the photon polarization visibility under high pump power can be improved. In addition, embedding a QD into a well designed microcavity is also found to be favourable, whereas the trade-off between high polarization visibility and multi-photon emission is noted.  相似文献

Single photon detection (SPD) with high quantum efficiency has been widely used for measurement of different quantum states with different photon distributions.Based on the direct single SPD and double-SPD of HBT configuration, we discuss the effect of a real SPD on the photon statistics measurement and it shows that the measured photon distributions for different quantum states are corrected in different forms.The results are confirmed by experiment with the strongly attenuated coherent light and thermal light.This system can be used to characterize the photon statistics of the fluorescence light from single atom or single molecular.  相似文献

The photon correlation of photon emission from a single quantum dot with cw excitation and pulsed excitation is investigated in details. To calculate the second-order correlation function for optical pumping, we deduce rate equations with a simplified two-level model under cw excitation and present the master equation approach in the interaction picture to the study of evolution of a three-level system under pulsed excitation. In addition, we report photon correlation measurements on a single self-assembled In0.5Ga0.5As quantum dot, which show strong antibunching behaviour under both the conditions of cw and pulsed excitations. The calculated results are in agreement with the experimental measurements.  相似文献

This paper discusses a possible resolution of the nonobjectivity-nonlocality dilemma in quantum mechanics in the light of experimental tests of the Bell inequality for two entangled photons and a Bell-like inequality for a single neutron. My conclusion is that these experiments show that quantum mechanics is nonobjective: that is, the values of physical observables cannot be assigned to a system before measurement. Bell’s assumption of nonlocality has to be rejected as having no direct experimental confirmation, at least thus far. I also consider the relationships between nonobjectivity and contextuality. Specifically, I analyze the impact of the Kochen-Specker theorem on the problem of contextuality of quantum observables. I argue that, just as von Neumann’s “no-go” theorem, the Kochen-Specker theorem is based on assumptions that do not correspond to the real physical situation. Finally, I present a theory of measurement based on a classical, purely wave model (pre-quantum classical statistical field theory), a model that reproduces quantum probabilities. In this model continuous fields are transformed into discrete clicks of detectors. While this model is classical, it is nonobjective. In this case, nonobjectivity is the result of the dependence of experimental outcomes on the context of measurement, in accordance with Bohr’s view.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate single-photon polarization conversion via scattering by an atom with Λ configuration coupled to a semi-infinite waveguide and discuss the two cases in which the Λ system is non-degenerated and degenerated. By applying the hard-wall boundary condition of the semi-infinite waveguide, it is found that singlephoton polarization conversion can be realized with unit probability for both cases under the ideal condition.Together with the polarization conversion, the frequency conversion of a single photon can also be realized with unit probability in the ideal case if the Λ system is not degenerated.  相似文献

We theoretically derive exact expressions for Mandel‘s Q parameter of the triggered single molecular source, which is inferred from the probabilities PRs (n) using the recorded of each photon detection event based on Hanbury Brown and Twiss detection. The real triggered source is recognized as an ideal single photon source with a Poissonian statistics background. How to decease the background and to increase the efficiency are discussed. It is established that the sub-Poissonian statistics formation can be determined by comparing the measured QRs of the real single triggered molecular with Qc of the Poissonian source containing the same mean photons. By this method, we also give an efficient way to measure signal-to-background ratios of triggered single photons.  相似文献

We suggest two schemes to generate the W state of N A-type three-level atoms. In the schemes, identical N three-level atoms are trapped in a cavity or N distant cavities. The success or failure of the generation of the W state can be determined by detecting the polarization of photon leaking out of the cavity. The result demonstrates that the W state is free from both the cavity loss and the spontaneous emission due to the fact that the two ground states (left and right) of the three-level atoms are stable states (or metastable states).  相似文献

We present a realization of weak measurement for the arrival time of a single photon. Our experimental setup is based on a Hong-Ou-Mandel interferometer, and a birefringent crystal is used to perform weak measurement between a preselected and a postselected measurement by two polarizers, for the crystal can separate the two components of horizontal polarization and vertical polarization by a small distance compared to the coherence length of photon pairs. In addition, we found that a quartz plate with nonideal length may decrease weak values in some degree.  相似文献

Using InGaAs/InP avalanche photodiodes as sensors and coaxial cables as reflection lines to reject spike signals, we have firstly employed the "timing filtering" gates to pick out avalanche signals and have realized the single photon detection at 1550nm in the temperature range of thermoelectric cooling. A ratio of the dark count rate to the detection efficiency was obtained to be 9 × 10^-5 at 223K. When the detector is applied to a practical quantum key distribution system, the transmission distance can reach 89.5km and the repetition rate can reach 0.33 MHz.  相似文献

Bell’s theorem has been widely argued to show that some of the predictions of quantum mechanics which are obtained by applying the Born’s rule to a class of entangled states, are not compatible with any local-causal statistical model, via the violation of Bell’s inequalities. On the other hand, in the previous works, we have shown that quantum dynamics and kinematics are emergent from a statistical model that is singled out uniquely by the principle of Locality. Here we shall show that the local-causal model supports entangled states and give the statistical origin of their generation. We then study the Stern-Gerlach experiment to show that the Born’s rule can also be derived as a mathematical theorem in the local-causal model. These results lead us to argue that nonlocality is not responsible for the quantum mechanical and most importantly experimental violation of Bell’s inequalities. The source(s) of violation has to be sought somewhere else.  相似文献

We investigate the quantum dynamics of the decay of a multiple-component positronium condensate into pairs of photons. A positronium atom has four internal spin states which are interconvertible through s-wave interactions. The quantum fields of all spin states of positroniums and photons are simulated from first principle in quasi-one-dimensional system using the truncated Wigner method. This method warrants us a full treatment of the depletion of positronium fields and the spin mixing induced by s-wave collisions between positronium atoms. Particularly,it yields the momentum spectrum of the emitted photons and the photon-photon correlations.  相似文献

Hardy’s nonlocality is a “nonlocality proof without inequalities”: it exemplifies that quantum correlations can be qualitatively stronger than classical correlations. This paper introduces variants of Hardy’s nonlocality in the CHSH scenario which are realized by the PR-box, but not by quantum correlations. Hence this new kind of Hardy-type nonlocality is a proof without inequalities showing that superquantum correlations can be qualitatively stronger than quantum correlations.  相似文献
