Borel equivalence relations between <Emphasis Type="Italic">ℓ</Emphasis><Subscript>1</Subscript> and <Emphasis Type="Italic">ℓ</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis></Subscript>

In this paper, we show that, for each p 〉 1, there are continuum many Borel equivalence relations between Rω/l1 and Rω/p ordered by ≤B which are pairwise Borel incomparable.     

Distance-Regular Graph with <Emphasis Type="Italic">c</Emphasis><Subscript>2</Subscript> > 1 and <Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis><Subscript>1</Subscript> = 0 < <Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis><Subscript>2</Subscript>

Let Γ be a distance-regular graph of diameter d ≥ 3 with c ₂ > 1. Let m be an integer with 1 ≤ m ≤ d − 1. We consider the following conditions:

Weak-Polynomial Convergence on Spaces ℓ<Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis></Subscript> and <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis></Subscript>

This paper is concerned with the study of the set P ^-1(0), when P varies over all orthogonally additive polynomials on _p and L _p spaces. We apply our results to obtain characterizations of the weak-polynomial topologies associated to this class of polynomials.     

New symplectic 4–manifolds with <Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis><Subscript>+</Subscript>=1

In 1995 Dusa McDuff and Dietmar Salamon conjectured the existence of symplectic 4–manifolds (X,ω) which satisfy b₊=1, K²=0, K·ω>0, and which fail to be of Lefschetz type. This is equivalent to finding a symplectic, homology T²×S² manifold with nontorsion canonical class and a cohomology ring which is not isomorphic to the cohomology ring of T²×S². They needed such examples to complete a list of possible symplectic 4–manifolds with b₊=1. In that same year Tian-Jun Li and Ai-ko Liu, working from a different point of view, questioned whether there existed symplectic 4–manifolds with b₊=1 with Seiberg- Witten invariants that did not depend on the chamber structure of the moduli space. The purpose of this paper is to construct an infinite number of examples which satisfy both requirements. The author was partially supported by NSF grant DMS-0406021.     

Bishop’s theorem and differentiability of a subspace of <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis></Subscript>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">K</Emphasis>)

Let K be a Hausdorff space and C _b (K) be the Banach algebra of all complex bounded continuous functions on K. We study the Gateaux and Fréchet differentiability of subspaces of C _b (K). Using this, we show that the set of all strong peak functions in a nontrivial separating separable subspace H of C _b (K) is a dense G _δ subset of H, if K is compact. This gives a generalized Bishop’s theorem, which says that the closure of the set of all strong peak points for H is the smallest closed norming subset of H. The classical Bishop’s theorem was proved for a separating subalgebra H and a metrizable compact space K.     

Equitable total coloring of <Emphasis Type="Italic">F</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">n</Emphasis></Subscript> ⋁ <Emphasis Type="Italic">W</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">n</Emphasis></Subscript>

The minimum number of total independent partition sets of V ∪ E of graph G(V,E) is called the total chromatic number of G denoted by χ _t (G). If the difference of the numbers of any two total independent partition sets of V ∪ E is no more than one, then the minimum number of total independent partition sets of V ∪ E is called the equitable total chromatic number of G, denoted by χ _et (G). In this paper, we obtain the equitable total chromatic number of the join graph of fan and wheel with the same order. On the Crossing Number of <Emphasis Type="Italic">K</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">m</Emphasis></Subscript> □ <Emphasis Type="Italic">P</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">n</Emphasis></Subscript>

Crossing numbers of graphs are in general very difficult to compute. There are several known exact results on the crossing number of the Cartesian products of paths, cycles or stars with small graphs. In this paper we study cr(K_m □ P_n), the crossing number of the Cartesian product K_m □ P_n. We prove that for m ≥ 3,n ≥ 1 and cr(K_m □ P_n)≥ (n − 1)cr(K_m+2 − e) + 2cr(K_m+1). For m≤ 5, according to Klešč, Jendrol and Ščerbová, the equality holds. In this paper, we also prove that the equality holds for m = 6, i.e., cr(K₆ □ P_n) = 15n + 3. The critical group of <Emphasis Type="Italic">K</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">m</Emphasis></Subscript> × <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">n</Emphasis></Subscript>

In this paper, the structure of the critical group of the graph K _m × C _n is determined, where m, n ≥ 3.     

On blocks with <Emphasis Type="Italic">K</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">B</Emphasis>)−<Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">B</Emphasis>)=1

We use the method of local representation and original method of Brauer to study the block with K(B)−L(B)=1, and get some properties on the defect group and the structure of this kind of blocks. Then, we show that K(B) conjecture holds for this kind of blocks.     

The crossing number of <Emphasis Type="Italic">G</Emphasis> ▭ <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">n</Emphasis></Subscript> for the graph <Emphasis Type="Italic">G</Emphasis> on six vertices

The crossing numbers of Cartesian products of paths, cycles or stars with all graphs of order at most four are known. The crossing numbers of G□C _n for some graphs G on five and six vertices and the cycle C _n are also given. In this paper, we extend these results by determining the crossing number of the Cartesian product G □ C _n , where G is a specific graph on six vertices.     

On the equation Δ<Emphasis Type="Italic">u</Emphasis> + <Emphasis Type="Italic">q</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">x</Emphasis>)<Emphasis Type="Italic">u</Emphasis> = 0

Sufficient conditions for the blow-up of nontrivial generalized solutions of the interior Dirichlet problem with homogeneous boundary condition for the homogeneous elliptic-type equation Δu + q(x)u = 0, where either q(x) ≠ const or q(x) = const= λ > 0, are obtained. A priori upper bounds (Theorem 4 and Remark 6) for the exact constants in the well-known Sobolev and Steklov inequalities are established.     

The □<Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis></Subscript>-Heat Equation on Quadric Manifolds

In this article, we give an explicit calculation of the partial Fourier transform of the fundamental solution to the □ _b -heat equation on quadric submanifolds M?? ⁿ ×? ^m . As a consequence, we can also compute the heat kernel associated with the weighted \(\overline{\partial}\)-equation in ? ⁿ when the weight is given by exp?(?φ(z,z)?λ) where φ:? ⁿ ×? ⁿ →? ^m is a quadratic, sesquilinear form and λ∈? ^m . Our method involves the representation theory of the Lie group M and the group Fourier transform.     

A theorem of the alternatives for the equation |<Emphasis Type="Italic">Ax</Emphasis>| − |<Emphasis Type="Italic">B</Emphasis>||<Emphasis Type="Italic">x</Emphasis>| = <Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>

A theorem of the alternatives for the equation \({|Ax|-|B||x|=b\ (A,B\in{\mathbb{R}}^{n\times n},\, b\in{\mathbb{R}}^n)}\) is proved and several consequences are drawn. In particular, a class of matrices A, B is identified for which the equation has exactly 2 ⁿ solutions for each positive right-hand side b.     

On Analytic Campanato and <Emphasis Type="Italic">F</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis>, <Emphasis Type="Italic">q</Emphasis>, <Emphasis Type="Italic">s</Emphasis>) Spaces

We investigate the relation between analytic Campanato spaces \(\mathcal {AL}_{p,s}\) and the spaces F(p, q, s), characterize the bounded and compact Riemann–Stieltjes operators from \(\mathcal {AL}_{p,s}\) to \(F(p,p-s-1,s)\). We also describe the corona theorem and the interpolating sequences for the class \(F(p,p-2,s)\), which is the Möbius invariant subspace of the analytic Besov type spaces \(B_p(s)\).     

Characterization of <Emphasis Type="Italic">α</Emphasis>1 and <Emphasis Type="Italic">α</Emphasis>2-matrices

This paper deals with some properties of α1-matrices and α2-matrices which are subclasses of nonsingular H-matrices. In particular, new characterizations of these two subclasses are given, and then used for proving algebraic properties related to subdirect sums and Hadamard products.     

Ramanujan complexes of type<Emphasis Type="Italic">Ã</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">d</Emphasis></Subscript>

We define and construct Ramanujan complexes. These are simplicial complexes which are higher dimensional analogues of Ramanujan graphs (constructed in [LPS]). They are obtained as quotients of the buildings of typeà _d?1 associated with PGL _d (F) whereF is a local field of positive characteristic.     

Euler–Poincaré Flows on <Emphasis Type="Italic">sl</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">n</Emphasis></Subscript> Opers and Integrability

We consider the action of vector field Vect(S ¹) on the space of an sl _n - opers on S ¹, i.e., a space of nth order differential operator . This action takes the sections of Ω ^–(n–1)/2 to those of Ω ^(n+1)/2, where Ω is the cotangent bundle on S ¹. In this paper we study Euler–Poincaré (EP) flows on the space of sl _n opers, in particular, we demonstrate explicitly EP flows on the space of third and fourth order differential operators (or sl ₃ and sl ₄ opers) and its relation to Drienfeld–Sokolov, Hirota–Satsuma and other coupled KdV type systems. We also discuss the Boussinesq equation associated with the third order operator. The solutions of the sl _n oper defines an immersion in homogeneous coordinates. We derive the Schwarzian KdV equation as an evolution of the solution curve associated to Δ ⁽ⁿ⁾, we study the factorization of higher order operators and its compatibility with the action of Vect(S ¹). We obtain the generalized Miura transformation and its connection to the modified Boussinesq equation for sl ₃ oper. We also study the eigenvalue problem associated to sl ₄ oper. We discuss flows on the special higher order differential operators for all u _i = f(u,u _x ,u _xx ⋯) and its connection to KdV equation. Finally we explore a relation between projective vector field equation and generalized Riccati equations.      

Pointwise multipliers and decomposition theorems in <Emphasis Type="Italic">F</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">∞,q</Emphasis></Superscript><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">s</Emphasis></Subscript>

Some properties of <Emphasis Type="Italic">B</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">φ</Emphasis></Subscript>-splines

A general approach to the construction of asymptotics of coordinate (not necessarily polynomial) B _φ -splines of an arbitrary order is proposed.
