A cell for the investigation of interfaces under pressure is presented. Given the pressure and temperature specifications of the cell, P≤ 100 bar and 253 K ≤T≤ 323 K, respectively, high‐energy X‐rays are required to penetrate the thick Al2O3 windows. The CH4(gas)/H2O(liquid) interface has been chosen to test the performance of the new device. The measured dynamic range of the high‐energy X‐ray reflectivity data exceeds 10?8, thereby demonstrating the validity of the entire experimental set‐up.  相似文献

A high‐temperature furnace with an induction heater coil has been designed and constructed for in situ X‐ray spectroscopic experiments under controlled atmospheric conditions and temperatures up to 3275 K. The multi‐purpose chamber design allows working in backscattering and normal fluorescence mode for synchrotron X‐ray absorption and emission spectroscopy. The use of the furnace is demonstrated in a study of the in situ formation of Cr oxide between 1823 K and 2023 K at logPO2 values between ?10.0 and ?11.3 using X‐ray absorption near‐edge spectroscopy. The set‐up is of particular interest for studying liquid metals, alloys and other electrically conductive materials under extreme conditions.  相似文献

An energy‐dispersive X‐ray absorption spectroscopy beamline mainly dedicated to X‐ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) and material science under extreme conditions has been implemented in a bending‐magnet port at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory. Here the beamline technical characteristics are described, including the most important aspects of the mechanics, optical elements and detection set‐up. The beamline performance is then illustrated through two case studies on strongly correlated transition metal oxides: an XMCD insight into the modifications of the magnetic properties of Cr‐doped manganites and the structural deformation in nickel perovskites under high applied pressure.  相似文献

Dramatic technical progress seen over the past decade now allows the plastic properties of materials to be investigated under extreme pressure and temperature conditions. Coupling of high‐pressure apparatuses with synchrotron radiation significantly improves the quantification of differential stress and specimen textures from X‐ray diffraction data, as well as specimen strains and strain rates by radiography. This contribution briefly reviews the recent developments in the field and describes state‐of‐the‐art extreme‐pressure deformation devices and analytical techniques available today. The focus here is on apparatuses promoting deformation at pressures largely in excess of 3 GPa, namely the diamond anvil cell, the deformation‐DIA apparatus and the rotational Drickamer apparatus, as well as on the methods used to carry out controlled deformation experiments while quantifying X‐ray data in terms of materials rheological parameters. It is shown that these new techniques open the new field of in situ investigation of materials rheology at extreme conditions, which already finds multiple fundamental applications in the understanding of the dynamics of Earth‐like planet interior.  相似文献

The crystal and local atomic structure of monoclinic ReO2 (α‐ReO2) under hydrostatic pressure up to 1.2 GPa was investigated for the first time using both X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and high‐resolution synchrotron X‐ray powder diffraction and a home‐built B4C anvil pressure cell developed for this purpose. Extended X‐ray absorption fine‐structure (EXAFS) data analysis at pressures from ambient up to 1.2 GPa indicates that there are two distinct Re—Re distances and a distorted ReO6 octahedron in the α‐ReO2 structure. X‐ray diffraction analysis at ambient pressure revealed an unambiguous solution for the crystal structure of the α‐phase, demonstrating a modulation of the Re—Re distances. The relatively small portion of the diffraction pattern accessed in the pressure‐dependent measurements does not allow for a detailed study of the crystal structure of α‐ReO2 under pressure. Nonetheless, a shift and reduction in the (011) Bragg peak intensity between 0.4 and 1.2 GPa is observed, with correlation to a decrease in Re—Re distance modulation, as confirmed by EXAFS analysis in the same pressure range. This behavior reveals that α‐ReO2 is a possible inner pressure gauge for future experiments up to 1.2 GPa.  相似文献

Energy‐dispersive X‐ray absorption spectroscopy is now a well established method that has been applied to a broad range of applications. At the energy‐dispersive EXAFS beamline of the ESRF, ID24, the recently achieved 5 × 5 µm focal spot combined with fast acquisition has allowed complex and non‐uniform samples to be mapped and images to be obtained where each pixel contains full XAS information. This method has been applied to a study under extreme conditions of pressure and temperature in a diamond anvil cell in transmission mode. The case study was the investigation of the Fe K‐edge XANES of (Mg,Fe)SiO3‐perovskite and (Mg,Fe)O‐ferropericlase on decomposition of the spinel‐structured olivine [γ‐(Mg,Fe)2SiO4] at 78 (3) GPa after laser heating at 2200 (100) K.  相似文献

An end‐station for X‐ray Raman scattering spectroscopy at beamline ID20 of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility is described. This end‐station is dedicated to the study of shallow core electronic excitations using non‐resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering. The spectrometer has 72 spherically bent analyzer crystals arranged in six modular groups of 12 analyzer crystals each for a combined maximum flexibility and large solid angle of detection. Each of the six analyzer modules houses one pixelated area detector allowing for X‐ray Raman scattering based imaging and efficient separation of the desired signal from the sample and spurious scattering from the often used complicated sample environments. This new end‐station provides an unprecedented instrument for X‐ray Raman scattering, which is a spectroscopic tool of great interest for the study of low‐energy X‐ray absorption spectra in materials under in situ conditions, such as in operando batteries and fuel cells, in situ catalytic reactions, and extreme pressure and temperature conditions.  相似文献

A high‐pressure cell for in situ X‐ray reflectivity measurements of liquid/solid interfaces at hydrostatic pressures up to 500 MPa (5 kbar), a pressure regime that is particularly important for the study of protein unfolding, is presented. The original set‐up of this hydrostatic high‐pressure cell is discussed and its unique properties are demonstrated by the investigation of pressure‐induced adsorption of the protein lysozyme onto hydrophobic silicon wafers. The presented results emphasize the enormous potential of X‐ray reflectivity studies under high hydrostatic pressure conditions for the in situ investigation of adsorption phenomena in biological systems.  相似文献

The ability to generate new electrochemically active materials for energy generation and storage with improved properties will likely be derived from an understanding of atomic‐scale structure/function relationships during electrochemical events. Here, the design and implementation of a new capillary electrochemical cell designed specifically for in situ high‐energy X‐ray diffraction measurements is described. By increasing the amount of electrochemically active material in the X‐ray path while implementing low‐Z cell materials with anisotropic scattering profiles, an order of magnitude enhancement in diffracted X‐ray signal over traditional cell geometries for multiple electrochemically active materials is demonstrated. This signal improvement is crucial for high‐energy X‐ray diffraction measurements and subsequent Fourier transformation into atomic pair distribution functions for atomic‐scale structural analysis. As an example, clear structural changes in LiCoO2 under reductive and oxidative conditions using the capillary cell are demonstrated, which agree with prior studies. Accurate modeling of the LiCoO2 diffraction data using reverse Monte Carlo simulations further verifies accurate background subtraction and strong signal from the electrochemically active material, enabled by the capillary working electrode geometry.  相似文献

The applications of nuclear resonant scattering in laser‐heated diamond anvil cells have provided an important probe for the magnetic and vibrational properties of 57Fe‐bearing materials under high pressure and high temperature. Synchrotron X‐ray diffraction is one of the most powerful tools for studying phase stability and equation of state over a wide range of pressure and temperature conditions. Recently an experimental capability has been developed for simultaneous nuclear resonant scattering and X‐ray diffraction measurements using synchrotron radiation. Here the application of this method to determine the sound velocities of compressed Fe3C is shown. The X‐ray diffraction measurements allow detection of microscale impurities, phase transitions and chemical reactions upon compression or heating. They also provide information on sample pressure, grain size distribution and unit cell volume. By combining the Debye velocity extracted from the nuclear resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering measurements and the structure, density and elasticity data from the X‐ray diffraction measurements simultaneously obtained, more accurate sound velocity data can be derived. Our results on few‐crystal and powder samples indicate strong anisotropy in the sound velocities of Fe3C under ambient conditions.  相似文献

To obtain direct evidence of the formation of the Ni–Mo–S phase on NiMo/Al2O3 catalysts under high‐pressure hydrodesulfurization conditions, a high‐pressure EXAFS chamber has been constructed and used to investigate the coordination structure of Ni and Mo species on the catalysts sulfided at high pressure. The high‐pressure chamber was designed to have a low dead volume and was equipped with polybenzimidazole X‐ray windows. Ni K‐edge k3χ(k) spectra with high signal‐to‐noise ratio were obtained using this high‐pressure chamber for the NiMo/Al2O3 catalyst sulfided at 613 K and 1.1 MPa over a wide k range (39.5–146 nm?1). The formation of Ni–Mo and Mo–Ni coordination shells was successfully proved by Ni and Mo K‐edge EXAFS measurement using this chamber. Interatomic distances of these coordination shells were almost identical to those calculated from Ni K‐edge EXAFS of NiMo/C catalysts sulfided at atmospheric pressure. These results support the hypothesis that the Ni–Mo–S phase is formed on the Al2O3‐supported NiMo catalyst sulfided under high‐pressure hydrodesulfurization conditions.  相似文献

A system for stress measurement under high pressure has been developed at beamline BL04B1, SPring‐8, Japan. A Kawai‐type multi‐anvil apparatus, SPEED‐1500, was used to pressurize polycrystalline KCl to 9.9 GPa in a mechanically anisotropic cell assembly with the KCl sample sandwiched between dense Al2O3 pistons. The variation of deviatoric stress was determined from the lattice distortion measured using two‐dimensional X‐ray diffraction with monochromatic synchrotron X‐rays. The low‐pressure B1 phase transformed to the high‐pressure polymorph B2 during compression. The deviatoric stress increased with increasing pressure in both the B1 and B2 phases except for the two‐phase‐coexisting region at a pressure of 2–3 GPa. This new system provides one of the technical foundations for conducting precise rheological measurements at conditions of the Earth's lower mantle.  相似文献

An energy‐domain 57Fe‐Mössbauer spectrometer using synchrotron radiation (SR) with a diamond anvil cell (DAC) has been developed for ultrahigh‐pressure measurements. The main optical system consists of a single‐line pure nuclear Bragg reflection from an oscillating 57FeBO3 single crystal near the Néel temperature and an X‐ray focusing device. The developed spectrometer can filter the Doppler‐shifted single‐line 57Fe‐Mössbauer radiation with a narrow bandwidth of neV order from a broadband SR source. The focused incident X‐rays make it easy to measure a small specimen in the DAC. The present paper introduces the design and performance of the SR 57Fe‐Mössbauer spectrometer and its demonstrative applications including the newly discovered result of a pressure‐induced magnetic phase transition of polycrystalline 57Fe3BO6 and an unknown high‐pressure phase of Gd57Fe2 alloy placed in a DAC under high pressures up to 302 GPa. The achievement of Mössbauer spectroscopy in the multimegabar range is of particular interest to researchers studying the nature of the Earth's core.  相似文献

A single‐crystal momentum‐resolved resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering (RIXS) experiment under high pressure using an originally designed diamond anvil cell (DAC) is reported. The diamond‐in/diamond‐out geometry was adopted with both the incident and scattered beams passing through a 1 mm‐thick diamond. This enabled us to cover wide momentum space keeping the scattering angle condition near 90°. Elastic and inelastic scattering from the diamond was drastically reduced using a pinhole placed after the DAC. Measurement of the momentum‐resolved RIXS spectra of Sr2.5Ca11.5Cu24O41 at the Cu K‐edge was thus successful. Though the inelastic intensity becomes weaker by two orders than the ambient pressure, RIXS spectra both at the center and the edge of the Brillouin zone were obtained at 3 GPa and low‐energy electronic excitations of the cuprate were found to change with pressure.  相似文献

A high‐pressure gas rig for in situ catalytic reactions at X‐ray absorption spectroscopy beamline (BM26A) has been developed. The rig enables catalysts to be studied in a variety of cells under well controlled and industrially relevant operation conditions. A large variety of gas mixtures can be generated and pressures of up to 50 bar with dry gas and 20 bar with wet gas (steam) can be obtained. Analyses of reaction products can be performed using an on‐line mass spectrometer.  相似文献

Fluorescent members of the 4, 4‐difluoro‐4‐bora‐3a, 4a‐diaza‐s‐indacene (BODIPY) family are widely used for a range of markers, dyes, and sensors. The capacity to substitute the basic framework is an attractive feature permitting a range of differently substituted materials to be formed. New isomeric BODIPYs, o‐, m‐, and p‐8‐[R‐C6H4]‐BODIPY (R = CH2OH, 2a (o), 2b (m), 2c (p); R = OMe, 3a (o), 3b (m), 3c (p)), have been synthesized and characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance, absorbance and emission spectroscopy, and single crystal X‐ray diffraction. The o‐isomers have a very high quantum yield emission in non‐polar solvents, while the m‐ and p‐ analogs showed weak fluorescence under the same conditions. Spectroscopic analysis, as well as X‐ray structural characterization, suggested that substitution in the ortho‐position of the phenyl ring is sufficient to increase the steric hindrance and hence impede the rotation of the phenyl moiety about the 8C‐C axis, thereby favoring radiative compared to non‐radiative relaxation. The first high pressure study of solid hydrazinium monochloride has been performed by in situ Raman spectroscopy and synchrotron X‐ray diffraction (XRD) experiments in diamond anvil cell (DAC) up to 39.5 and 24.6 GPa, respectively. The structure of phase I at room temperature is confirmed to be space group C2/c by the Raman spectral analysis and Rietveld refinement of the XRD pattern. A structural transition from phase I to II is observed at 7.3 GPa. Pressure‐induced position variation of hydrogen atoms in NH3+ unit during the phase transition is attributed to the formation of N―H…Cl hydrogen‐bonds, which play a vital role in the stability and subsequent structural changes of this high energetic material under pressure. This inference is proved from the abnormal pressure shifts and obvious Fermi resonance in NH stretching mode of N2H5+ ion in the Raman experiment. Finally, a further transition from phase II to III accompanied with a slight internal distortion in the N2H5+ ions occurs above 19.8 GPa, and phase III persists up to 39.5 GPa. Although the idea of an X‐ray absorption spectrometer in dispersive geometry was initially conceived for the study of transient phenomena, the instrument at the European Synchrotron Radiation facility has been increasingly exploited for studies at extreme conditions of pressure using diamond anvil cells. The main results of investigations at high pressure obtained at beamline ID24 are reviewed. These concern not only fundamental topics, such as the local and the electronic structure as well as the magnetic properties of matter, but also geological relevant questions such as the behaviour of Fe in the main components of the Earth's interior.  相似文献

X‐Treme is a soft X‐ray beamline recently built in the Swiss Light Source at the Paul Scherrer Institut in collaboration with École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. The beamline is dedicated to polarization‐dependent X‐ray absorption spectroscopy at high magnetic fields and low temperature. The source is an elliptically polarizing undulator. The end‐station has a superconducting 7 T–2 T vector magnet, with sample temperature down to 2 K and is equipped with an in situ sample preparation system for surface science. The beamline commissioning measurements, which show a resolving power of 8000 and a maximum flux at the sample of 4.7 × 1012 photons s?1, are presented. Scientific examples showing X‐ray magnetic circular and X‐ray magnetic linear dichroism measurements are also presented.  相似文献
