The maximum diversity problem presents a challenge to solution methods based on heuristic optimization. We undertake the development of hybrid procedures within the scatter search framework with the goal of uncovering the most effective designs to tackle this difficult but important problem. Our research revealed the effectiveness of adding simple memory structures (based on recency and frequency) to key scatter search mechanisms. Our extensive experiments and related statistical tests show that the most effective scatter search variant outperforms state-of-the-art methods.  相似文献

We consider a short sea fuel oil distribution problem where an oil company is responsible for the routing and scheduling of ships between ports such that the demand for various fuel oil products is satisfied during the planning horizon. The inventory management has to be considered at the demand side only, and the consumption rates are given and assumed to be constant within the planning horizon. The objective is to determine distribution policies that minimize the routing and operating costs, while the inventory levels are maintained within their limits. We propose an arc-load flow formulation for the problem which is tightened with valid inequalities. In order to obtain good feasible solutions for planning horizons of several months, we compare different hybridization strategies. Computational results are reported for real small-size instances.  相似文献

The multi-stage capacitated lot sizing and loading problem (MCLSLP) deals with the issue of determining the lot sizes of product items in serially-arranged manufacturing stages and loading them on parallel facilities in each stage to satisfy dynamic demand over a given planning horizon. It is assumed that regular time capacity decisions have already been made in the tactical level and allocated to the stages, but it is still an important decision problem whether to augment regular time capacity by overtime capacity. Each item may be processed on a technologically feasible subset of existing facilities with different process and setup times on each facility. Since the solution of the MCLSLP requires the design of a powerful algorithm, simulated annealing (SA) and genetic algorithms (GA) are integrated to enhance their individual performances. Furthermore, these global optimisation methods are incorporated into a Lagrangean relaxation scheme, hence creating a hybrid solution methodology. Numerical results obtained using these methods confirm the mutual benefits of integrating different solution techniques.  相似文献

New heuristics for the maximum diversity problem   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The maximum diversity problem (MDP) consists of identifying, in a population, a subset of elements, characterized by a set of attributes, that present the most diverse characteristics among the elements of the subset. The identification of such solution is an NP-hard problem. Some heuristics are available to obtain approximate solutions for this problem. In this paper, we propose different GRASP heuristics for the MDP, using distinct construction procedures and including a path-relinking technique. Performance comparison among related work and the proposed heuristics is provided. Experimental results show that the new GRASP heuristics are quite robust and are able to find high-quality solutions in reasonable computational times. G.C. Lower bounds for the frequency assignment problem can be found from maximal cliques and subgraphs related to cliques. In this paper we show that for many types of problem optimal assignments can be found by a process of assigning these subgraphs first, fixing the assignment and then extending the assignment to the full problem. We demonstrate the advantages of the method for some typical examples. In particular we give the first optimal assignments of several variants of the “Philadelphia” problems. These problems have been used by several authors to assess assignment methods and lower bounds.  相似文献

The canister filling problem arises when optimizing the spent nuclear fuel repository in hard rock. It is shown the problem is NP-hard. Constructive heuristics followed by remove and reinsert local optimization are considered. Additionally, some theoretical insight on the algorithm operation is provided. Several variants of the algorithm are compared on random and realistic datasets. The obtained results have shown that constructive heuristics give satisfactory results for both random and realistic input data, although there is still some room for improvements.  相似文献

The capacitated lot sizing and loading problem (CLSLP) deals with the issue of determining the lot sizes of product families/end items and loading them on parallel facilities to satisfy dynamic demand over a given planning horizon. The capacity restrictions in the CLSLP are imposed by constraints specific to the production environment considered. When a lot size is positive in a specific period, it is loaded on a facility without exceeding the sum of the regular and overtime capacity limits. Each family may have a different process time on each facility and furthermore, it may be technologically feasible to load a family only on a subset of existing facilities. So, in the most general case, the loading problem may involve unrelated parallel facilities of different classes. Once loaded on a facility, a family may consume capacity during setup time. Inventory holding and overtime costs are minimized in the objective function. Setup costs can be included if setups incur costs other than lost production capacity. The CLSLP is relevant in many industrial applications and may be generalized to multi-stage production planning and loading models. The CLSLP is a synthesis of three different planning and loading problems, i.e., the capacitated lot sizing problem (CLSP) with overtime decisions and setup times, minimizing total tardiness on unrelated parallel processors, and, the class scheduling problem, each of which is NP in the feasibility and optimality problems. Consequently, we develop hybrid heuristics involving powerful search techniques such as simulated annealing (SA), tabu search (TS) and genetic algorithms (GA) to deal with the CLSLP. Results are compared with optimal solutions for 108 randomly generated small test problems. The procedures developed here are also compared against each other in 36 larger size problems.  相似文献

The multisource location-allocation problem in continuous space is investigated. Two constructive heuristic techniques are proposed to solve this problem. Both methods are based on designing suitable schemes for the generation of the initial solutions. The first considers the furthest distance rule and is enhanced by schemes borrowed from tabu search such as constructing the forbidden regions and freeing strategy. The second considers the discrete solutions found when solving the p-median problem. Some results on existing test problems are presented.  相似文献

The Multidimensional Assignment Problem (MAP) (abbreviated s-AP in the case of s dimensions) is an extension of the well-known assignment problem. The most studied case of MAP is 3-AP, though the problems with larger values of s also have a large number of applications. We consider several known neighborhoods, generalize them and propose some new ones. The heuristics are evaluated both theoretically and experimentally and dominating algorithms are selected. We also demonstrate that a combination of two neighborhoods may yield a heuristics which is superior to both of its components.  相似文献

Bin-oriented heuristics for one-dimensional bin-packing problem construct solutions by packing one bin at a time. Several such heuristics consider two or more subsets for each bin and pack the one with the largest total weight. These heuristics sometimes generate poor solutions, due to a tendency to use many small items early in the process. To address this problem, we propose a method of controlling the average weight of items packed by bin-oriented heuristics. Constructive heuristics and an improvement heuristic based on this approach are introduced. Additionally, reduction methods for bin-oriented heuristics are presented. The results of an extensive computational study show that: (1) controlling average weight significantly improves solutions and reduces computation time of bin-oriented heuristics; (2) reduction methods improve solutions and processing times of some bin-oriented heuristics; and (3) the new improvement heuristic outperforms all other known complex heuristics, in terms of both average solution quality and computation time.  相似文献

Given a planar point setS, a triangulation ofS is a maximal set of non-intersecting line segments connecting the points. The minimum weight triangulation problem is to find a triangulation ofS such that the sum of the lengths of the line segments in it is the smallest. No polynomial time algorithm is known to produce the optimal or even a constant approximation of the optimal solution, and it is also unknown whether the problem is NP-hard. In this paper, we propose two improved heuristics, which triangulate a set ofn points in a plane inO(n 3) time and never do worse than the minimum spanning tree triangulation algorithm given by Lingas and the greedy spanning tree triangulation algorithm given by Heath and Pemmaraju. These two algorithms both produce an optimal triangulation if the points are the vertices of a convex polygon, and also do the same in some special cases.  相似文献

We propose relaxation heuristics for the problem of maximum profit assignment of n tasks to m agents (n > m), such that each task is assigned to only one agent subject to capacity constraints on the agents. Using Lagrangian or surrogate relaxation, the heuristics perform a subgradient search obtaining feasible solutions. Relaxation considers a vector of multipliers for the capacity constraints. The resolution of the Lagrangian is then immediate. For the surrogate, the resulting problem is a multiple choice knapsack that is again relaxed for continuous values of the variables, and solved in polynomial time. Relaxation multipliers are used with an improved heuristic of Martello and Toth or a new constructive heuristic to find good feasible solutions. Six heuristics are tested with problems of the literature and random generated problems. Best results are less than 0.5% from the optimal, with reasonable computational times for an AT/386 computer. It seems promising even for problems with correlated coefficients.  相似文献

A decomposition heuristics for the container ship stowage problem   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
In this paper we face the problem of stowing a containership, referred to as the Master Bay Plan Problem (MBPP); this problem is difficult to solve due to its combinatorial nature and the constraints related to both the ship and the containers. We present a decomposition approach that allows us to assign a priori the bays of a containership to the set of containers to be loaded according to their final destination, such that different portions of the ship are independently considered for the stowage. Then, we find the optimal solution of each subset of bays by using a 0/1 Linear Programming model. Finally, we check the global ship stability of the overall stowage plan and look for its feasibility by using an exchange algorithm which is based on local search techniques. The validation of the proposed approach is performed with some real life test cases. Summary In this paper we present two new greedy-type heuristics for solving the location set covering problem. We compare our new pair of algorithms with the pair GH1 and GH2 [Vasko and Wilson (1986)] and show that they perform better for a selected set of test problems.  相似文献

We consider constant-performance, polynomial-time, nonexact algorithms for the minimax or bottleneck version of the Travelling Salesman Problem. It is first shown that no such algorithm can exist for problems with arbitrary costs unless P = NP. However, when costs are positive and satisfy the triangle inequality, we use results pertaining to the squares of biconnected graphs to produce a polynomial-time algorithm with worst-case bound 2 and show further that, unless P = NP, no polynomial alternative can improve on this value.  相似文献
