In this paper, we consider shifted tridiagonal matrices. We prove that the standard algorithm to compute the LU factorization in this situation is mixed forward-backward stable and, therefore, componentwise forward stable. Moreover, we give a formula to compute the corresponding condition number in O(n) flops. The parametric process and counting statistics of a marked point process whose marks belong to a given subset of the mark space of a compound Cox process are derived in this paper by means of functional data analysis. They are illustrated by means of an example and simulation study with different intensity processes for the CCP. In this paper we characterize when the path ring associated to a quiver is Gorenstein (in the sense of Iwanaga [9]). Then, by using the notion of a Gorenstein category (cf. [2]), we extend the classes of quivers whose corresponding category of representations has finite Gorenstein global dimension. This extension includes non-noetherian quivers. E. The Lie superalgebras in the extended Freudenthal Magic Square in characteristic 3 are shown to be related to some known simple Lie superalgebras, specific to this characteristic, constructed in terms of orthogonal and symplectic triple systems, which are defined in terms of central simple degree three Jordan algebras. In this paper we study a quadrature formula for Bernstein–Szegő measures on the unit circle with a fixed number of nodes and unlimited exactness. Taking into account that the Bernstein–Szegő measures are very suitable for approximating an important class of measures we also present a quadrature formula for this type of measures such that the error can be controlled with a well-bounded formula. This paper deals with the scattering of time harmonic electromagnetic waves by an infinitely long cylinder containing a non-homogeneous conducting medium. More precisely, we study the transverse magnetic field that solves an interface problem holding between the cross section of the cylinder and the exterior two-dimensional free space. We apply a dual-mixed variational formulation in the obstacle coupled with a boundary integral equation method in the unbounded homogeneous space. A Fredholm alternative is utilized to prove that this continuous formulation is well posed. We define the corresponding discrete scheme by using the lowest order rotated Raviart-Thomas finite elements for the magnetic field and spectral elements for the boundary unknown. Then, we show that the resulting Galerkin scheme is uniquely solvable and convergent, and prove optimal error estimates. Finally, we illustrate our analysis with some results from computational experiments. We introduce a notion of mild solution for a class of non-autonomous parabolic stochastic partial differential equations defined on a bounded open subset ${D\subset\mathbb{R}^{d}}We introduce a notion of mild solution for a class of non-autonomous parabolic stochastic partial differential equations defined on a bounded open subset and driven by an infinite-dimensional fractional noise. We prove the existence of such a solution, establish its relation with the variational solution introduced by Nualart and Vuillermot (J Funct Anal 232:390–454, 2006) and the H?lder continuity of its sample paths when we consider it as an L 2(D)-valued stochastic process. When h is an affine function, we also prove uniqueness. An immediate consequence of our results is the indistinguishability of mild and variational solutions in the case of uniqueness. M. In this paper we deal with the maximal subspace in BMOA where a general semigroup of analytic functions on the unit disk generates a strongly continuous semigroup of composition operators. Particular cases of this question are related to a well-known theorem of Sarason about VMOA. Our results describe analytically that maximal subspace and provide a condition which is sufficient for the maximal subspace to be exactly VMOA. A related necessary condition is also proved in the case when the semigroup has an inner Denjoy-Wolff point. As a byproduct we provide a generalization of the theorem of Sarason. We study the error of rational quadrature rules when functions which are analytic on a neighborhood of the set of integration are considered. A non-regular inductive sequence of non-archimedean reflexive Fréchet spaces is constructed. A theory of second order differentiability for real functions with calm Clarke gradient at points of strict differentiability is presented from a set-valued analysis perspective by using the theory of graphical derivatives of set-valued maps. In this paper we present a survey about analytic properties of polynomials orthogonal with respect to a weighted Sobolev inner product such that the vector of measures has an unbounded support. In particular, we focus on the asymptotic behaviour of such polynomials as well as in the distribution of their zeros. We obtain strong restrictions on the structure of a Sylow 2-subgroup of a group with at most three real valued irreducible characters. This extends results of Iwasaki, who studied groups with at most two real valued irreducible characters. In this paper, approximate solutions of vector optimization problems are analyzed via a metrically consistent ε-efficient concept. Several properties of the ε-efficient set are studied. By scalarization, necessary and sufficient conditions for approximate solutions of convex and nonconvex vector optimization problems are provided; a characterization is obtained via generalized Chebyshev norms, attaining the same precision in the vector problem as in the scalarization. We present a new second-order directional derivative and study its properties. Using this derivative and the parabolic second-order derivative, we establish second-order necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for a general scalar optimization problem by means of the asymptotic and parabolic second-order tangent sets to the feasible set. For the sufficient conditions, the initial space must be finite dimensional. Then, these conditions are applied to a general vector optimization problem obtaining second-order optimality conditions that generalize the differentiable case. For this aim, we introduce a scalarization, and the relationships between the different types of solutions to the vector optimization problem and the scalarized problem are studied. Computing estimates in functional principal component analysis (FPCA) from discrete data is usually based on the approximation of sample curves in terms of a basis (splines, wavelets, trigonometric functions, etc.) and a geometrical structure in the data space (L 2 spaces, Sobolev spaces, etc.). Until now, the computational efforts have been focused in developing ad hoc algorithms to approximate those estimates by previously selecting an efficient approximating technique and a convenient geometrical structure. The main goal of this paper consists of establishing a procedure to formulate the algorithm for computing estimates of FPCA under general settings. The resulting algorithm is based on the classic multivariate PCA of a certain random vector and can thus be implemented in the majority of statistical packages. In fact, it is derived from the analysis of the effects of modifying the norm in the space of coordinates. Finally, an application on real data will be developed to illustrate the so derived theoretic results. We study the existence of infima of subsets in Banach spaces ordered by normal cones associated to shrinking Schauder bases. Under these conditions we prove the existence of infima for a class of subsets verifying a weakly compactness property. Moreover we prove that a normal cone associated to a Schauder basis in a reflexive Banach space is strongly minihedral extending the known result for unconditional Schauder bases.
