ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT In some cases, asymptotic methods present an appealing alternative to full nonlinear analyses. In other cases, the value of an asymptotic analysis may merely be that, in a qualitative way, it can characterize the behavior of a structure. Whether an asymptotic method is applied for one or the other purpose it is of interest to attempt an estimation of its range of validity. The present paper addresses this question for an asymptotic method to predict imperfection sensitivity of elastic structures with mode interaction. The particular structure that is investigated possesses an infinity of nearly simultaneous local buckling modes. It is found that very few of these modes need to be taken into account.  相似文献

承受轴对称载荷的正交异性圆环壳的静力分析,归结为求解一非齐次二阶复变量方程.当所含参数μ较大时,常采用渐近解法.因方程含一阶转点,所以求全域一致有效且达到薄壳理论精度的完全渐近解较为困难.过去,齐次解只求到一级近似.本文采用广义Airy函数方法,求出了高级近似.这样,轴对称正交异性圆环壳的齐次解第一次有了达到薄壳理论精度的完全的渐近展开.  相似文献

By taking into account the dislocations that are geometrically necessary for producing a curvature or twist of the atomic lattice in crystals, Gao et al. recently developed a theory of strain-gradient plasticity on the micrometer scale and showed that it agrees relatively well with the tests of hardness, torsion and bending of copper on the micrometer scale. This paper subjects this theory to an asymptotic scaling analysis. It is shown that the small-size asymptotic limit of this theory exhibits (1) an unusually strong size effect in which the corresponding nominal stresses in geometrically similar structures of different sizes D vary as D−5/2, and (2) an asymptotic approach to a load-deflection diagram whose tangent stiffness gradually increases, starting with an infinitely small initial stiffness at infinitely small stress. Although this peculiar small-size asymptotic behavior might not be attainable within the practical applicability range of a continuum theory, it renders questionable any efforts to construct approximations of an asymptotic matching character, with a two-sided asymptotic support, which have previously been proven effective for quasibrittle materials such as concrete, rock, ice and fiber composites. A possible simple modification of the existing theory with respect to the small-size asymptotic properties is suggested. However, the questions of experimental justification of such a modification and its compatibility with the dislocation theory will require further study. The small-size asymptotic properties of other strain gradient theories of plasticity have not been analyzed, except for those of the previous Fleck-Hutchinson theory, which have been found reasonable.  相似文献

In this paper, an asymptotic expansion solution of the constitutive equation of hardening materials is presented. Its 1st asymptotic integration can give an approximate one with good enough accuracy and the second asymptotic one improves the precision of solutions further. The steps of its algorithms are fairly simple and clear, and its computational workload is considerably reduced. This paper is devoted to the study of the problem of exponential asymptotic stability of the rotational motion of a gyrostat using servo-control moments which are applied to the internal rotors. The servo-control moments which impose the rotational motion are obtained. The stabilizing servo-control moments are obtained from the conditions to ensure exponential asymptotic stability of the desired motion. Estimations of the phase coordinations as exponential functions are presented. The method based on a choice of the structural form of the servo-control moments such that the equations of motion reduce to a system of differential equations with exponential asymptotic stability of an special solution.  相似文献

In this paper the steady free convection boundary-layer along a semi-infinite, slightly inclined (both positive and negative) to the horizontal plate embedded in a porous medium with the flow generated by Newtonian heating has been investigated. The asymptotic solution near the leading edge and the full numerical solution along the whole plate domain have been obtained numerically, whilst the asymptotic solution far downstream along the plate has been obtained analytically. For a positive inclination the full numerical solution is in agreement with the asymptotic solutions. However, for a negatively inclined plate, only the small asymptotic solution near the leading edge of the plate can be predicted giving an insight that the model for a negatively inclined plate, whilst mathematically interesting, is not physically realistic.  相似文献

The paper presents asymptotic modelling of the generalized Greenwood problem for an elastic cylinder (considered as a bounded two-dimensional elastic body) pressed between two rigid punches one of them with the dented surface having a scratch. The method of matched asymptotic expansions is used to obtain analytic approximations for the mutual displacement of the punches and the relative displacement of the roller's center.  相似文献

The Adomian decomposition method (ADM) is an approximate analytic method for solving nonlinear equations. Generally, an approximate solution can be ob- tained by using only a few terms. However, in applications, we need to use it flexibly according to the real problem. In this paper, based on the ADM, we give a modified asymptotic Adomian decomposition method and use it to solve the nonlinear Boussinesq equation describing groundwater flows. The example shows effectiveness of the modified asymptotic Adomian decomposition method.  相似文献

For a simply supported elastic-plastic square plate under axial compression the post-bifurcation behaviour and the sensitivity to initial imperfections are investigated. An exact asymptotic expansion is given for the initial post-bifurcation behaviour of a perfect plate compressed into the plastic range. The imperfection sensitivity is studied through an asymptotic analysis of the behaviour of the hypoelastic plate that results from neglecting the effect of elastic unloading. The results of the asymptotic analyses are compared with results of a numerical incremental solution by means of a combined finite element—Rayleigh Ritz method. The paper considers the effect of different in-plane boundary conditions and the effect of various degrees of strain hardening.  相似文献

For a co-dimension two bifurcation system on a three-dimensional central manifold, which is parametrically excited by a real noise, a model of enhanced generality is developed in the present paper by assuming the real noise to be a component of the output of a linear filter system—a zero-mean stationary Gaussian diffusion vectoral process, which conforms with the detailed balance condition. The strong mixing condition is removed in the present paper. To handle the complexities encountered in the present work, an asymptotic analysis approach and the eigenfunction expansion of the solution to the relevant FPK equation are employed in the construction of the asymptotic expansions of the invariant measure and the maximal Lyapunov exponents for the relevant system.  相似文献

In this paper, the aim is to present the results of a new approach for the asymptotic modeling of two-dimensional steady, incompressible, laminar flows in a channel. More precisely, for high Reynolds numbers, the walls of the channel are deformed in such a way that separation is possible. Of course, numerical solutions of Navier–Stokes equations can be calculated but it is believed that an asymptotic analysis helps in the understanding of the flow structure. Numerical solutions of Navier–Stokes equations are compared with solutions of asymptotic models included in a more general model called global interactive boundary layer.  相似文献

Stability of a linear autonomous non-conservative system in the presence of potential, gyroscopic, dissipative, and non-conservative positional forces is studied. The cases when the non-conservative system is close to a gyroscopic system or to a circulatory one are examined. It is known that marginal stability of gyroscopic and circulatory systems can be destroyed or improved up to asymptotic stability due to action of small non-conservative positional and velocity-dependent forces. The present paper shows that in both cases the boundary of the asymptotic stability domain of the perturbed system possesses singularities such as “Dihedral angle” and “Whitney umbrella” that govern stabilization and destabilization. In case of two degrees of freedom, approximations of the stability boundary near the singularities are found in terms of the invariants of matrices of the system. As an example, the asymptotic stability domain of the modified Maxwell-Bloch equations is investigated with an application to the stability problems of gyroscopic systems with stationary and rotating damping.  相似文献

We consider the system of elastostatics for an elastic medium consisting of an imperfection of small diameter, embedded in a homogeneous reference medium. The Lamé constants of the imperfection are different from those of the background medium. We establish a complete asymptotic formula for the displacement vector in terms of the reference Lamé constants, the location of the imperfection and its geometry. Our derivation is rigorous, and based on layer potential techniques. The asymptotic expansions in this paper are valid for an elastic imperfection with Lipschitz boundaries. In the course of derivation of the asymptotic formula, we introduce the concept of (generalized) elastic moment tensors (Pólya–Szegö tensor) and prove that the first order elastic moment tensor is symmetric and positive (negative)-definite. We also obtain estimation of its eigenvalue. We then apply these asymptotic formulas for the purpose of identifying with high precision the order of magnitude of the diameter of the elastic inclusion, its location, and its elastic moment tensors.  相似文献

The model of an anisotropic, layerlike medium is often employed in problems of electromagnetic probing, and many papers have been written on the propagation of an electromagnetic field in such media. A systematic exposition of such problems was set out by Tikhonov, Sku-garevskaya, and Dmitriev [1–6]. In this paper we shall construct an asymptotic for the electromagnetic field of a point source lying above a layerlike medium of finite anisotropy having a fairly high longitudinal and transverse conductivity, or in which the source lies at a considerable height above the medium. In this paper we consider the scattering of a wave from an infinite line source by an infinitely long cylinder C. The line source is parallel to the axis of C, and the cross section C of this cylinder is smooth, closed and convex. C is formed by joining a pair of smooth convex arcs to a circle C0, one on the illuminated side, and one on the dark side, so that C is circular near the points of diffraction. By a rigorous argument we establish the asymptotic behavior of the field at high frequencies, in a certain portion of the shadow S that is determined by the geometry of C in S. The leading term of our asymptotic expansion is the field predicted by the geometrical theory of diffraction.Previous authors have derived asymptotic expansions in the shadow regions of convex bodies in special cases where separation of variables is possible. Others, who have considered more general shapes, have only been able to obtain bounds on the field in the shadow. In contrast our result is believed to be the first rigorous asymptotic solution in the shadow of a nonseparable boundary, whose shape is frequency independent.The research for this paper was supported by U.S. National Science Foundation Grant No. GP-7985.  相似文献

In a recent paper by Tanuma and Man, a two-term asymptotic formula was derived for the speed of surface waves propagating in an anisotropic elastic half-space whose elastic moduli differ only slightly from those for a (base) isotropic elastic material. This formula disagrees with that derived by Delsanto and Clark in an earlier paper using a different method. In this short note, we use a simple procedure to derive another two-term asymptotic formula for the surface-wave speed. Our formula takes the same compact form even if the base material is generally anisotropic. We show that when an error in the work of Delsanto and Clark is corrected, the three different methods do give equivalent results.   相似文献
