We consider the nonlinear diffusion equationu t –a(x, u x x )+b(x, u)=g(x, u) with initial boundary conditions andu(t, 0)=u(t, 1)=0. Here,a, b, andg denote some real functions which are monotonically increasing with respect to the second variable. Then, the corresponding stationary problem has a positive solution if and only if(0, *) or(0, *]. The endpoint * can be estimated by , where 1 u denotes the first eigenvalue of the stationary problem linearized at the pointu. The minimal positive steady state solutions are stable with respect to the nonlinear parabolic equation.

Summary We define a constraint system , [0,0), which is a kind of family of vector fields on a manifold. This is a generalized version of the family of the equations , [0,0),x m ,y n . Finally, we prove a singular perturbation theorem for the system , [0,0).Dedicated to Professor Kenichi Shiraiwa on his 60th birthday  相似文献

Let < SL n ( ) be a subgroup of finite index, where n 5. Suppose acts continuously on a manifold M, where 1(M) = n , preserving a measure that is positive on open sets. Further assume that the induced action on H 1(M) is non-trivial. We show there exists a finite index subgroup < and a equivariant continuous map : M n that induces an isomorphism on fundamental group. We prove more general results providing continuous quotients in cases where 1(M) surjects onto a finitely generated torsion free nilpotent group. We also give some new examples of manifolds with actions.  相似文献

We prove the existence of continuously differentiable solutions with required asymptotic properties as t +0 and determine the number of solutions of the following Cauchy problem for a functional differential equation:
where : (0, ) (0, +), g: (0, ) (0, +), and h: (0, ) (0, +) are continuous functions, 0 < g(t) t, 0 < h(t) t, t (0, ), , and the function is continuous in a certain domain.  相似文献

Following earlier work of Tits [8], this paper deals with the structure of buildings which are not necessarily thick; that is, possessing panels (faces of codimension 1) which are contained in two chambers, only. To every building , there is canonically associated a thick building whose Weyl group W( ) can be considered as a reflection subgroup of the Weyl group W() of . One can reconstruct from together with the embedding W( ) W(). Conversely, if is any thick building and W any reflection group containing W( ) as a reflection subgroup, there exists a weak building with Weyl group W and associated thick building .  相似文献

Let X n1 * , ... X nn * be a sequence of n independent random variables which have a geometric distribution with the parameter p n = 1/n, and M n * = \max\{X n1 * , ... X nn * }. Let Z 1, Z2, Z3, ... be a sequence of independent random variables with the uniform distribution over the set N n = {1, 2, ... n}. For each j N n let us denote X nj = min{k : Zk = j}, M n = max{Xn1, ... Xnn}, and let S n be the 2nd largest among X n1, Xn2, ... Xnn. Using the methodology of verifying D(un) and D'(un) mixing conditions we prove herein that the maximum M n has the same type I limiting distribution as the maximum M n * and estimate the rate of convergence. The limiting bivariate distribution of (Sn, Mn) is also obtained. Let n, n Nn, , and T n = min{M(An), M(Bn)}. We determine herein the limiting distribution of random variable T n in the case n , n/n > 0, as n .  相似文献

The number of subgroups of type and cotype in a finite abelian p-group of type is a polynomialg with integral coefficients. We prove g has nonnegative coefficients for all partitions and if and only if no two parts of differ by more than one. Necessity follows from a few simple facts about Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions; sufficiency relies on properties of certain order-preserving surjections that associate to each subgroup a vector dominated componentwise by . The nonzero components of (H) are the parts of , the type of H; if no two parts of differ by more than one, the nonzero components of – (H) are the parts of , the cotype of H. In fact, we provide an order-theoretic characterization of those isomorphism types of finite abelian p-groups all of whose Hall polynomials have nonnegative coefficients.  相似文献

Summary Let (W, H, ) be an abstract Wiener space and letR(w) be a strongly measurable random variable with values in the set of isometries onH. Suppose that Rh is smooth in the Sobolev sense and that it is a quasi-nilpotent operator onH for everyhH. It is shown that (R(w)h) is again a Gaussian (0, |h| H 2 )-random variable. Consequently, if (e i ,i)W * is a complete, orthonormal basis ofH, then defines a measure preserving transformation, a rotation, onW. It is also shown that if for some strongly measurable, operator valued (onH) random variableR, (R(w+k)h) is (0, |h| H 2 )-Gaussian for allk, hH, thenR is an isometry and Rh is quasi-nilpotent for allHH. The relation between the stochastic calculi for these Wiener pathsw and , as well as the conditions of the inverbibility of the map are discussed and the problem of the absolute continuity of the image of the Wiener measure under Euclidean motion on the Wiener space (i.e. composed with a shift) is studied. The research of the second author was supported by the Fund for the Promotion of Research at the TechnionDedicated to the memory of Albert Badrikian  相似文献

For an arbitrary variety of groups and an arbitrary class of groups that is closed on quotient groups, we prove that a quotient group G/N of the group G possesses an invariant system with - and -factors (respectively, is a residually -group) if G possesses an invariant system with - and -factors (respectively, is a residually -group) and N (respectively, N is a maximal invariant -subgroup of the group G).  相似文献

We study a generalization of the classical Henstock-Kurzweil integral, known as the strong -integral, introduced by Jarník and Kurzweil. Let be the space of all strongly -integrable functions on a multidimensional compact interval E, equipped with the Alexiewicz norm We show that each element in the dual space of can be represented as a strong -integral. Consequently, we prove that fg is strongly -integrable on E for each strongly -integrable function f if and only if g is almost everywhere equal to a function of bounded variation (in the sense of Hardy-Krause) on E.  相似文献

Let G be a graph with order p, size q and component number . For each i between p – and q, let be the family of spanning i-edge subgraphs of G with exactly components. For an integer-valued graphical invariant if H H is an adjacent edge transformation (AET) implies |(H)-(H')|1 then is said to be continuous with respect to AET. Similarly define the continuity of with respect to simple edge transformation (SET). Let M j() and m j() be the invariants defined by . It is proved that both M p–() and m p–(;) interpolate over , if is continuous with respect to AET, and that M j() and m j() interpolate over , if is continuous with respect to SET. In this way a lot of known interpolation results, including a theorem due to Schuster etc., are generalized.  相似文献

Let be a d - dimensional Markov family corresponding to a uniformly elliptic second order divergence form operator. We show that for any quasi continuous in the Sobolev space the process (X) admits under P x a decomposition into a martingale additive functional (AF) M and a continuous AF A of zero quadratic variation for almost every starting point x if q=2, for quasi every x if q>2 and for every if is continuous, d=1 and or d>1 and q>d. Our decomposition enables us to show that in the case of symmetric operator the energy of A equals zero if q=2 and that the decomposition of (X) into the martingale AF M and the AF of zero energy A is strict if for some q>d. Moreover, our decomposition provides a probabilistic representation of A .  相似文献

Given and a sequence of Dirichlet polynomials estimates for the coefficientsa n are proved if {n} is uniformly bounded on a region containing a half plane. Thereby a result is obtained which is an analogue of a known result for polynomials, that is for theA-transforms of the geometric sequence; moreover a Jentzsch type theorem for {n(z)} is derived.  相似文献

Let be the set of all primes, the field of all algebraic numbers, and Z the set of square-free natural numbers. In an -group M with an appropriate operator set it is shown that the -value set (M) can be embedded in the value set (M). This embedding is an isomorphism if and only if each convex -subgroup is an -subgroup. If (M) has a.c.c. and M is either representable or finitely valued, then the two value sets are identical. More generally, these results hold for two related operator sets 1 and 2 and the corresponding -value sets and . If R is a unital -ring, then each unital -module over R is an f-module and has exactly when R is an f-ring in which 1 is a strong order unit.  相似文献

We deal with the Kreîn-Langer problem for -valued functions on the band (–2a, 2a)×, where is the algebra of continuous linear operators on a Hilbert space ,a a finite positive number and a topological Abelian group. We show that every weakly continuous -indefinite function admits a strongly continuous -indefinite continuation to × with the same indefiniteness index . We give a parametrization of the extensions in terms of operator-valued Schur functions.  相似文献

This paper considers an election between candidatesA andB in which (1) voters may be uncertain about which candidate they will vote for, and (2) the winner is to be determined by a lottery betweenA andB that is based on their vote totals. This lottery is required to treat voters equally, to treat candidates equally, and to respond nonnegatively to increased support for a candidate. The set n of all such lottery rules based on a total ofn voters is the convex hull of aboutn/2 basic lottery rules which include the simple majority rule. For odd values ofn 3 let , and for even values ofn 4 let . With the average of then voters probabilities of voting forA, it is shown that within n the simple majority rule maximizes candidateA's overall win probability whenever , and that(n) is the smallest number for which this is true. Similarly, the simple majority rule maximizesB's overall win probability whenever (the average of the voters probabilities of voting forB) is as large as(n). We introduce the notion of hyper-self-duality for Bose-Mesner algebras as a strengthening of formal self-duality. Let denote a Bose-Mesner algebra on a finite nonempty set X. Fix p X, and let and denote respectively the dual Bose-Mesner algebra and the Terwilliger algebra of with respect to p. By a hyper-duality of , we mean an automorphism of such that for all ; and is a duality of . is said to be hyper-self-dual whenever there exists a hyper-duality of . We say that is strongly hyper-self-dual whenever there exists a hyper-duality of which can be expressed as conjugation by an invertible element of . We show that Bose-Mesner algebras which support a spin model are strongly hyper-self-dual, and we characterize strong hyper-self-duality via the module structure of the associated Terwilliger algebra.  相似文献
