The structure of groups with finitely many non-normal subgroups is well known. In this paper, groups are investigated with finitely many conjugacy classes of non-normal subgroups with a given property. In particular, it is proved that a locally soluble group with finitely many non-trivial conjugacy classes of non-abelian subgroups has finite commutator subgroup. This result generalizes a theorem by Romalis and Sesekin on groups in which every non-abelian subgroup is normal.   相似文献

We consider a random walk on a finite group G based on a generating set that is a union of conjugacy classes. Let the nonnegative integer valued random variable T denote the first time the walk arrives at the identity element of G, if the starting point of the walk is uniformly distributed on G. Under suitable hypotheses, we show that the distribution function F of T is almost exponential, and we give an error term.  相似文献

Fel’shtyn and Troitsky showed that the twisted conjugacy class of the unit element of an abelian group is a subgroup for every automorphism. A conjugacy class in the infinite-symmetric group is said to have parity features if no finitary odd permutation is a product of two of its members. The conjugacy classes having parity features are determined. We prove that every topological conjugacy between two germs of singular holomorphic curves in the complex plane is homotopic to another conjugacy which extends homeomorphically to the exceptional divisors of their minimal desingularisations. As an application we give an explicit presentation of a finite index subgroup of the mapping class group of the germ of such a singularity.  相似文献

We discuss rather systematically the principle, implicit in earlier works, that for a “random” element in an arithmetic subgroup of a (split, say) reductive algebraic group over a number field, the splitting field of the characteristic polynomial, computed using any faitfhful representation, has Galois group isomorphic to the Weyl group of the underlying algebraic group. Besides tools such as the large sieve, which we had already used, we introduce some probabilistic ideas (large deviation estimates for finite Markov chains) and the general case involves a more precise understanding of the way Frobenius conjugacy classes are computed for such splitting fields (which is related to a map between regular elements of a finite group of Lie type and conjugacy classes in the Weyl group which had been considered earlier by Carter and Fulman for other purposes; we show in particular that the values of this map are equidistributed).  相似文献

An AT-group is said to possess the congruence property if every normal subgroup of that group contains a congruence subgroup. We construct a series of examples of periodic AT-groups without this property. Using a strong version of the Curve Selection Lemma for real semianalytic sets, we prove that for an arbitrary connected Lie group G, each connected component of the set E_n(G)of all elements of order n in G is a conjugacy class in G. We compute the exact asymptotic normalizations of random walks in random sceneries, for various null recurrent random walks to the nearest neighbours, and for i.i.d., centered and square integrable random sceneries. In each case, the standard deviation grows like n with . Here, the value of the exponent is determined by the sole geometry of the underlying graph, as opposed to previous examples, where this value reflected mainly the integrability properties of the steps of the walk, or of the scenery.
