We indicate that final state interactions can be neglected if one calculate deep inelastic lepton nucleus scattering in the time-ordered perturbation theory in the infinite momentum frame,or its equivalent,the light-cone perturbation theory in an ordinary frame.We thus extend the light-cone quantum field theory to baryon-meson field to establish a relativistic composite model of nuclei,and then apply the impulse approximation to deep inelastic lepton nucleus scattering in this model.  相似文献

In this note we explore the consequences of the pion cloud model for semi-inclusive deep inelastic lepton scattering. We argue that by scattering on a few-nucleon target, the detection of the recoiling target would provide a valuable test of the meson cloud model. We estimate the semi-inclusive cross section for deep inelastic lepton scattering on a3He target, as function of Bjorkenx and target recoil momentum.  相似文献

We analyze the left–right asymmetry of pion production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) process of unpolarized charged lepton on transversely polarized nucleon target. Unlike available treatments, in which some specific weighting functions are multiplied to separate theoretically motivated quantities, we do not introduce any weighting function following the analyzing method by the E704 experiment. The advantage is that this basic observable is free of any theoretical bias, although we can perform the calculation under the current theoretical framework. We present numerical calculations at both HERMES kinematics for the proton target and JLab kinematics for the neutron target. We find that with the current theoretical understanding, Sivers effect plays a key role in our analysis.  相似文献

The present situation in deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering is reviewed from an experimenter's point of view. After describing, in some detail, the quark-parton model (QPM) predictions the basic ideas of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) are illustrated. The perturbative QCD predictions for deep inelastic scattering are summarised discussing also their theoretical uncertainties of today. Past and present experiments on deep inelastic electron and muon scattering are compared regarding their ability to test these predictions. It is shown that all data is in very good agreement with the QPM and fully consistent with perturbative QCD. New results on lepton scattering off nuclei are discussed and confronted to recently invented phenomenological models.  相似文献

Different asymmetries in polarized lepton scattering are shown to be remarkably dependent on the valence quark and lepton multiplet structure in currently discussed gauge theories. Therefore deep inelastic muon experiments at SPS energies can contribute significantly to the investigation of neutral currents.  相似文献

The deep inelastic scattering of electrons (muons) and neutrinos on the nuclei and the process of lepton pair production in hadron-nucleus collisions are considered. The expressions for the corresponding differential cross-sections are derived provided the final lepton and the spectator fragment of the initial nucleus are detected in coincidence. The structure functions of the processes under consideration are analysed by the principle of automodelity. Some scale-invariant regularities are established for them. In the framework of “light front” formalism for many-body systems the relations of these structure functions to the usual structure functions of the deep inelastic lepton hadron interaction are obtained. A hypothesis is put forward on the scale invariance of structure functions with respect to the ξ-variable which is some complicated dimensionless combination of kinematic invariants.  相似文献

Positivity restrictions on the structure functions for deep inelastic lepton scattering are used to derive upper and lower bounds for total neutrino cross-sections. Comparison with experiment leads to a lower limit for the mass of the (charged) intermediate vector boson.  相似文献

We suggest that in hard scattering processes the nuclear medium can be viewed as a background parton sea where the bound nucleons are "soaked". The quark and gluon distributions in nuclei are investigated under this assumption. The comparisons of this model with the experimental data of the structure function ratio from charged lepton deep inelastic scattering, the gluon momentum distribution ratio from inelastic J/Ψ production, and the dimuon yield ratio from Drell-Yan dimuon production are present.  相似文献

We investigate the attenuation of hadrons in deep inelastic lepton–nucleus scattering in the kinematical regime of the HERMES and Jefferson Lab experiments. The calculation is carried out in the framework of a BUU transport model. Our results indicate a strong influence of (pre)hadronic final state interactions on the observed multiplicity ratios.  相似文献

The covariant parton model is used to investigate the approach to scalling in deep inelastic lepton scattering and in lepton pair production by hadron beams. The subasymptotic effects in these two reactions are controlled by rather different features. Of particular importance for lepton pair production is how far the partons are off shell before they annihilate, while for deep inelastic scattering what matters is rather the mass of the parton after it has absorbed the virtual photon. There are uncertainties because of problems with gauge invariance, but it seems that subasymptotic effects in lepton pair production may be large even at SPS/Fermilab energies.Transverse momentum and x distributions of partons in hadrons are discussed in a very simple model. In particular it is found that, while the model is constructed such that F2(x) ~ (1 ? x)3 as x → 1, for values of x up to 0.85 F2(x) is better approximated by (1 ? x)4.  相似文献

The energy loss effect in nuclear matter is another nuclear effect apart from the nuclear effects on the parton distribution as in deep inelastic scattering process. The quark energy loss can be measured best by the nuclear dependence of the high energy nuclear Drell-Yan process. By means of three kinds of quark energy loss parameterizations given in literature and the nuclear parton distribution extracted only with lepton-nucleus deep inelastic scattering experimental data, measured Drell-Yan production cross sections are analyzed for 800 GeV proton incident on a variety of nuclear targets from FNAL E866. It is shown that our results with considering the energy loss effect are much different from those of the FNAL E866, who analyzes the experimental data with the nuclear parton distribution functions obtained by using the deep inelastic IA collisions and pA nuclear Drell-Yan data. Considering the existence of energy loss effect in Drell-Yan lepton pairs production, we suggest that the extraction of nuclear parton distribution functions should not include Drell-Yan experimental data.  相似文献

We discuss polarized lepton-proton scattering with special emphasis on the difference between target polarization defined relative to the lepton beam or to the virtual photon direction. In particular, this difference influences azimuthal distributions in the final state.
