We proposed a three-layer waveguide as an optical sensor for homogeneous sensing applications. A guiding layer of the proposed structure is considered as lossy left-handed material (LHM) with simultaneously the complex negative electric permittivity ɛ and the complex negative magnetic permeability μ. We also assume a cladding layer to have an intensity-dependent refractive index. Sensitivity of the proposed optical waveguide sensor is derived and its dependence on different parameters of a waveguide is studied.  相似文献

Using an analytical method based on boundary matching technique, the modal behavior and cutoff frequencies of a compressed ellipse doubly clad optical waveguide is studied. The proposed waveguide consists of a core region of higher refractive index with two cladding regions: one is inner cladding and the other is outer cladding. We take appropriate orthogonal coordinates for the proposed structure and impose the boundary conditions to obtain the characteristic equation. The effect of the width of inner cladding layer on the dispersion characteristic is observed. It is found that the width of inner cladding is able to tailor the dispersion characteristic and cutoff condition of the waveguide up to a certain limit.  相似文献

Performance parameter of a Bragg fiber waveguide based resonant sensor in presence of a defect layer in cladding regions is theoretically studied. The Bragg fiber waveguide consists of a liquid-core surrounded by alternate high and low refractive indices materials in cladding regions. Reflectivity of the proposed waveguide based resonant sensor is formulated using transfer matrix method for a non-homogeneous multilayer cylindrical system. The waveguide shows a band gap region with a narrow defect mode in the band gap region under the considered wavelength range. Instead of taking a whole band gap as a sensing signal, here the defect peak is taken as the sensing signal. It is observed that the intensity of defect mode is more sensitive for core refractive index than the intensity of traditional band gap region (lobe). This study shows that the higher sensitivity can be achieved by creating the defect at a position in cladding region where the intensity of transmitted light lies between 40% and 90%. Presence of a defect layer is able to increase the detection accuracy of the sensor and, hence increase the overall performance of this sensor.  相似文献

A light-guiding, flexible fused-silica (FFS) capillary has been used in designing an optical fiber Cr VI sensor for monitoring Cr VI ions in water samples. The FFS capillary is similar to a conventional silica optical fiber in that it can guide light in the wavelength region from the UV to the near IR but different from a conventional optical fiber in that it is a tubular waveguide. The inner surface of the FFS capillary is fused silica, which one can modify to design an optical fiber chemical sensor. The FFS capillary has a cladding layer plus a protective polymer coating on its outside surface. The cladding layer ensures the ability of the FFS capillary to guide light. The protective coating increases the FFS capillary's mechanical strength and makes it robust for practical applications. Compared with conventional silica optical fibers, it is much easier and more feasible to use this FFS capillary to fabricate long-path (tens of meters to thousands of meters) evanescent-wave based chemical sensors. We describe a Cr VI sensor based on the intrinsic evanescent-wave absorption by Cr VI ions in a water sample filled inside the capillary as an example of use of a FFS capillary in chemical sensor design. This simple sensor, using a 30 m light-guiding FFS capillary as a transducer, has the capability of detecting as little as 31 parts in 10(9) of Cr VI in a water sample, which is close to the detection limit of some sophisticated, expensive analytical instruments.  相似文献

在分析经典消逝波光波导生化传感器的基础上,为寻找性能更佳的传感器,探讨用更为直观的截止特性来进行生化传感。分别对三层及四层平板波导进行了研究,指出了作为基于截止特性的生化传感器三层波导结构存在的局限性。在理论上研究了可以在四层波导中使用变折射率材料来进行基于截止特性的生化传感,并给出了由空气隙、极化聚合物、高折射率薄膜、待测物组成的传感器结构示意图。用数值分析的方法绘出了此装置的灵敏度与高折射率薄膜厚度的关系曲线,并将它同经典消逝波光波导生化传感器灵敏度与薄膜厚度关系图进行了比较。结果表明,这种新型传感器理论上可以在较厚的薄膜结构中达到很高的灵敏度。  相似文献

We present the results of a simulation study of a multilayer structure for which strongly enhanced (resonant) electric fields are produced at the surface of, and in the interior of, a planar waveguide which is evanescently coupled to an incoming beam in a prism geometry. The resulting field enhancements can far exceed those associated with the well-known surface plasmon resonance in a typical silver film excited in the conventional attenuated total reflection geometry. Simulations are performed for optical bistability for the case of a typical YAG laser beam coupled to a zinc oxide (ZnO) waveguide, demonstrating that the effect should occur for reasonable values of the parameters involved.  相似文献

A simple and economical fabrication process for a monolithic polymer optical waveguide in which different materials are serially grafted is proposed and demonstrated. A cladding layer with a waveguide core groove is fabricated by microtransfer molding. An epoxy resin solution is spin coated onto the cladding before selective photoexposure to form a transparent waveguide core. An optical functional polymer solution is then spin coated to form a serially grafted waveguide structure. Thus two types of polymer fill the groove to realize a monolithically integrated waveguide. Controlling the groove shape results in a flat surface. A low connection loss between the two polymers, less than 0.01 dB/point, is obtained.  相似文献

用火焰水解和高温烧结的方法在单晶硅基片上制备了厚SiO2和B2O2-P2O2-SiO2光波导包层材料。并用扫描电镜(SEM)和X射线粉末衍射(XRD)方法对其微观形貌和物相结构进行了观察和检测。重点对硅基片上沉积厚SiO2时的龟裂和析晶问题进行了深入研究。从扫描电镜照片可以看出.火焰水解法形成的SiO2粉末呈多孔的蜂窝状结构。这种粉末具有很高的比表面积,因而很容易烧结成玻璃。X射线衍射图谱表明.这种粉末是完全非晶态的。经过烧结以后,从扫描电镜照片可以明显看出硅基片上的SiO2薄膜出现龟裂。同时,X射线衍射测试结果表明有少量SiO2析晶。而通过在SiO2中掺入B2O3、P2O5,上述龟裂和析晶完全消失。用这种工艺制备的SiO2波导包层材料厚度达到20μm以上,表面光滑、没有龟裂,而且是完全玻璃态的,可以用于制备性能优良的各种硅基二氧化硅波导器件。  相似文献

We have studied the propagation of hard x rays in a planar x-ray waveguide with a sub-20 nm guiding layer. To optimize the transmission and to minimize absorption losses, a novel waveguide design based on a two-component cladding was implemented. Optimized transmission is achieved by placing an appropriate interlayer between the cladding and the guiding core. The experimental results along with simulations of field propagation show that high transmission values can be obtained in waveguide optics at parameters relevant for x-ray imaging. These are small beam diameters below 20 nm and the relatively long guiding length necessary for efficient blocking of multi-keV photon energy beams.  相似文献

We propose theoretically two optical sensor structures based on Fabry–Perot resonator and fringes of equal thickness structure. Different from the conventional slab waveguide sensors in which the sample interacts with the evanescent field in the cladding layer, the proposed sensors contain the sample in the core layer. The first proposed sensor comprises a piezoelectric material as a substrate with the driving potential difference as the sensing probe for refractive index changes of the sample. The second sensor comprises fringes of equal thickness structure with the number of fringes per unit length is the probe for changes in the index of the sample. The calculations reveal that the proposed sensors have high sensitivity to changes in the refractive index of the sample.  相似文献

提出了一种基于包层模谐振的光纤温度传感器. 它是通过将三包层石英特种光纤(TCQSF)两端分别与普通单模光纤(SMF)电弧熔接构成的SMF-TCQSF-SMF结构. 根据耦合模理论, 首先将TCQSF等效为三个同轴波导, 按各波导模场的分布特点标量计算其传输模式的色散曲线, 并深入研究其耦合长度与传输谱线之间的关系; 其次根据光纤的热光效应及热膨胀效应, 分析计算该传感器的温度灵敏度; 最后选取耦合长度为一个拍长时的传感器进行温度传感实验. 实验结果表明, 在35-95 ℃的温度变化范围内, 其温度灵敏度为73.74 pm/℃, 与理论计算结果一致. 因此, 该传感器具有结构简单、制备容易、灵敏度高、包层模激发可控等优点, 可用于工业生产、生物医学等温度传感领域.  相似文献

用能量为2.8MeV、剂量为1.4×1016ion/cm2的He+在室温(300K)下注入到晶体材料LiTaO3中,形成了离子注入平板光波导。用棱镜耦合法观察和测量了LiTaO3波导导模的分布,并对退火前后的LiTaO3波导的折射率分布进行了计算和比较。利用背散射/沟道技术分析了由于He+的注入而引起的波导表面的损伤。  相似文献

介绍了以汞包层光波导为传感探头的光纤液位传感器的原理及信号处理,其工作原理是利用连通器将液位的变化转变为汞包层光波导包层长度的变化。理论分析和实验表明,当光波导直径和光波长一定时,光功率衰减随汞包层光波导长度增加作线性增加。通过对汞包层光波导引起光功率衰减的检测,探头结构的优化设计以及探测器件的选型,可以获得实时性很强的高精度液位测量。实验测得10m液位的最大测量误差为5.2mm,理论分析的相对测量精度可达0.02%。该液位传感器的研制对于油库等易燃、易爆环境中的液位测量具有重要意义。  相似文献

We explore the dispersion properties and optical gradient forces from mutual coupling of surface plasmon polariton(SPP) modes at two interfaces of nanoscale plasmonic waveguides with hyperbolic metamaterial cladding.With Maxwell's equations and Maxwell stress tensor,we calculate and compare the dispersion relation and optical gradient force for symmetric and antisymmetric SPP modes in two kinds of nanoscale plasmonic waveguides.The numerical results show that the optical gradient force between two coupled hyperbolic metamaterial waveguides can be engineered flexibly by adjusting the waveguide structure parameters.Importantly,an alternative way to boost the optical gradient force is provided through engineering the hyperbolic metamaterial cladding of suitable orientation.These special optical properties will open the door for potential optomechanical applications,such as optical tweezers and actuators.  相似文献

采用溶胶-凝胶法制备了SiO2-TiO2平板光波导,计算了平板光波导通光条件,分析了硅/钛溶胶-凝胶材料的热性能,观测了平板光波导的结构形貌,并测试了其通光损耗。结果表明:经过200℃,30 min干燥处理的凝胶薄膜呈疏松多孔状态,对于非对称平板波导,存在芯层通光截止厚度,而且当SiO2-TiO2芯层厚度为0.5 μm时,SiO2下包层厚度至少有6 μm才能防止1550 nm波长光泄露入单晶硅衬底中。制备的光波导对于1550 nm波长光传输损耗最小值为0.34 dB/cm。  相似文献

依据全反射理论和棱镜耦合原理,实现了对棱镜折射率及波导薄膜材料折射率和厚度的同步测量。使用高准直半导体激光器激光入射到棱镜内部与波导膜的分界面上,逐步旋转棱镜或改变棱镜的入射角,得到棱镜耦合M线,曲线前面几组的波谷为波导模激发,在M线左侧收尾处有一个不完整波峰,其反射光强随入射角迅速衰减,为全反射时的临界点,由此可实现棱镜及波导薄膜参数的同步测量;用此法测量了棱镜耦合一体化平面波导棱镜的折射率和聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯(PMMA)聚合物波导薄膜的折射率和厚度。测量棱镜折射率精度为±1.9×10-4,波导薄膜折射率和厚度的精度分别为±6.2×10-4 μm和±1.6×10-2 μm。  相似文献

提出了一种新型反射型聚合物波导电压传感器理论,并且进行了实验研究。这种电压传感器采用棱镜波导耦合结构,在棱镜下底面依次镀有金属膜一聚合物一金属膜三层结构。通过两层金属膜对极化聚合物加电压,利用聚合物材料电光效应和导模共振吸收峰对聚合物折射率的敏感特性,通过反射光强的测量来确定作用电压的变化值。实验中的测试电压范围是从-140V至 140V,得到的线性度值为0.991,电压测量的分辨力为0.1V,电压测量灵敏度系数为0.0011V^-1。实验表明这种电压传感器具有良好的线性和较高的灵敏度。  相似文献

InAlAs wet thermal oxidation process was adopted to fabricate ridge waveguide laser diodes. First, applying the oxidation process on the whole etched surface of an InAlAs upper cladding layer, we formed a current blocking and optical confining layer of ridge waveguide laser diode. This is a self-aligned structure, which makes the laser diode fabrication steps much simpler and etching-depth control less important. Assessment of the fabricated laser diode revealed that current-voltage characteristics and slope efficiency did not worsen, and threshold current was reduced by the oxidation process. 采用自由空间耦合的方法,激发双面金属包覆波导中的超高阶导模,通过在双面金属包覆介质波导的两个金属膜上加不同的电压,改变导波层铌酸锂的厚度和折射率,得到不同参数下的衰减全反射谱,从而验证超高阶导模的偏振不灵敏性及对导波层厚度和折射率十分灵敏的特殊性质,实验结果与理论相吻合。比较相同条件下反射率的变化,得到铝包覆波导的灵敏度要高于金包覆波导。所得结果对集成光电子器件的研制有一定的参考价值。  相似文献
