Both the symmetric period n-2 motion and asymmetric one of a one-degree- of-freedom impact oscillator are considered.The theory of bifurcations of the fixed point is applied to such model,and it is proved that the symmetric periodic motion has only pitchfork bifurcation by the analysis of the symmetry of the Poincarémap.The numerical simulation shows that one symmetric periodic orbit could bifurcate into two antisymmet- ric ones via pitchfork bifurcation.While the control parameter changes continuously, the two antisymmetric periodic orbits will give birth to two synchronous antisymmetric period-doubling sequences,and bring about two antisymmetric chaotic attractors subse- quently.If the symmetric system is transformed into asymmetric one,bifurcations of the asymmetric period n-2 motion can be described by a two-parameter unfolding of cusp, and the pitchfork changes into one unbifurcated branch and one fold branch.  相似文献

The behavior of single-degree-of-freedom systems possessing quadratic and cubic nonlinearities subject to parametric excitation is investigated. Both fundamental and principal parametric resonances are considered. A global bifurcation diagram in the excitation amplitude and excitation frequency domain is presented showing different possible stable steady-state solutions (attractors). Fractal basin maps for fundamental and principal parametric resonances when three attractors coexist are presented in color. An enlargement of one region of the map for principal parametric resonance reveals a Cantor-like set of fractal boundaries. For some cases, both periodic and chaotic attractors coexist.  相似文献

This paper presents a treatment of material symmetry for hyperelastic rods. The rod theory of interest is based on a Cosserat (or directed) curve with two director fields, and was developed in a series of works by Green, Naghdi and several of their co-workers. The treatment is based on Murdoch and Cohen's work on material symmetry of Cosserat surfaces. Two material symmetry groups are discussed: one pertains to the strain-energy function, while the other pertains to the response functions. The paper closes by showing how the treatment relates to the form-invariant approach used in Green and Naghdi's papers and a treatment proposed recently by Cohen. 建立了Euler压杆问题的能量表达式。对此模型,应用突变理论进行稳定分析,得出了系统全部的分叉集与突变流形。突变流形为一族层层嵌套、互不交叉的抛物线。分析的结论要比有限差分法、有限单元法、大范围非线形分析等数值计算的结果简洁、明了,有助于压杆后屈曲问题的研究。  相似文献

The material symmetry condition of Noll is compared with that of Gurtin for elastic solids. (In this paper elastic solids refer to simply elastic solid materials.) We demonstrate that the difference between the two approaches is due to the fact that Gurtin's involves an additional rotation of the configuration. We show that the two ideas of material symmetry are equivalent for elastic solids in the context of finite elasticity theory. However, the procedures for applying these two approaches to classical linear elasticity theory are different. Also, we observe that both methods can be directly applied to the invariant infinitesimal theory of Casey and Naghdi without starting with the case of finite deformations. This computational study shows, for the first time, a clear transition to two-dimensional Hopf bifurcation for laminar incompressible flows in symmetric plane expansion channels. Due to the well-known extreme sensitivity of this study on computational mesh, the critical Reynolds numbers for both the known symmetry-breaking (pitchfork) bifurcation and Hopf bifurcation were investigated for several layers of mesh refinement. It is found that under-refined meshes lead to an overestimation of the critical Reynolds number for the symmetry breaking and an underestimation of the critical Reynolds number for the Hopf bifurcation.  相似文献

We study bifurcations of two types of homoclinic orbits—a homoclinic orbit with resonant eigenvalues and an inclination-flip homoclinic orbit. For the former, we prove thatN-homoclinic orbits (N3) never bifurcate from the original homoclinic orbit. This answers a problem raised by Chow-Deng-Fiedler (J. Dynam. Diff. Eq. 2, 177–244, 1990). For the latter, we investigate mainlyN-homoclinic orbits andN-periodic orbits forN=1, 2 and determine whether they bifurcate or not under an additional condition on the eigenvalues of the linearized vector field around the equilibrium point.  相似文献

This paper describes the nonlinear, postcritical behavior of parametrically excited, shallow, cylindrical panels, which are modeled with two or four degrees of freedom. The analysis shows complicated dynamic behavior. Stable, periodic motions coexist with the trivial solution for very small values of the excitation amplitude. Moreover, a stable, chaotic attractor could be found coexisting with the trivial solution.

Restrictions imposed on stress response functions by objectivity and material symmetry are usually obtained by appeal to both a reference configuration and a response function common to all observers. Here these restrictions are obtained by regarding the reference configuration to be observer-dependent in a natural manner, and without the need to assume the existence of a common response function. Remarks are made on the distinction which should be drawn between the notions of observer transformation and rigid deformation, the consequences of this distinction for the correct interpretation of ‘invariance under superposed rigid motions’, and on the domains of response functions. The weakly nonlinear resonant response of an orthogonal double pendulum to planar harmonic motions of the point of suspension is investigated. The two pendulums in the double pendulum are confined to two orthogonal planes. For nearly equal length of the two pendulums, the system exhibits 1:1 internal resonance. The method of averaging is used to derive a set of four first order autonomous differential equations in the amplitude and phase variables. Constant solutions of the amplitude and phase equations are studied as a function of physical parameters of interest using the local bifurcation theory. It is shown that, for excitation restricted in either plane, there may be as many as six pitchfork bifurcation points at which the nonplanar solutions bifurcate from the planar solutions. These nonplanar motions can become unstable by a saddle-node or a Hopf bifurcation, giving rise to a new branch of constant solutions or limit cycle solutions, respectively. The dynamics of the amplitude equations in parameter regions of the Hopf bifurcations is then explored using direct numerical integration. The results indicate a complicated amplitude dynamics including multiple limit cycle solutions, period-doubling route to chaos, and sudden disappearance of chaotic attractors.  相似文献

We establish the local symmetry group of the dynamically and kinematically exact theory of elastic shells. The group consists of an ordered triple of tensors which make the shell strain energy density invariant under change of the reference placement. Definitions of the fluid shell, the solid shell, and the membrane shell are introduced in terms of members of the symmetry group. Within solid shells we discuss in more detail the isotropic, hemitropic, and orthotropic shells and corresponding invariant properties of the strain energy density. For the physically linear shells, when the density becomes a quadratic function of the shell strain and bending tensors, reduced representations of the density are established for orthotropic, cubic-symmetric, and isotropic shells. The reduced representations contain much less independent material constants to be found from experiments.  相似文献
