Fourier synthesis of optical-pulse trains based on optical phase locking of three cw semiconductor lasers has been demonstrated by use of a semiconductor optical amplifier as a four-wave mixer. The temporal waveforms of the pulse trains were directly observed at a repetition rate of 9.6 GHz by a fast sampling oscilloscope. The FM sideband heterodyne technique was employed to realize a stable homodyne optical phase-locked loop. 相似文献

In this paper we present recent results obtained on the generation of ultra-high repetition rate optical pulse trains at 1.5 μm in asynchronously frequency-modulated Er–Yb : glass lasers. Nearly transform-limited pulse trains at either single or dual carrier wavelength with repetition rates up to 20 GHz are generated by means of an external fiber Bragg grating. A simple and stable technique of optical short pulse generation for soliton transmission based on external modulation is reviewe.By using nonlinearity of absorption characteristics of an electroabsorption modulator, ultra-short optical pulse trains having a shape close to sech2 shape can be generated just with sinusoidal modulation, without ultra-short driving pulses and ultra-broad bandwidth of the modulator. The pulse width and the repetition rate can be varied by changing the electrical driving conditions. Quasi-transform-limited optical pulseswith time-bandwidth product of 0.32 were successfully generated by the sinusoidally driven InGaAsP electroabsorption modulator with up to 20 GHz repetition rate. An application of a λ/4-shifted DFB laser-electroabsorption modulator integrated light source to a single-chip soliton source is also described. The high quality of the modulator-generator pulses has been proven by long-distance soliton transmission over 6400 km at 2.5 Gb/s using a recirculating fiber loop. 相似文献

提出并建立了一种新型的基于光纤四波混频效应和压控光脉冲源的光锁相环路(OPLL),用于光时分复用系统(OTDM)中的时钟恢复过程。从理论上分析了其工作原理,及各模块结构和功能。利用高非线性光纤中的四波混频效应实现全光鉴相器,有效缩短了光纤长度,减小了光纤色散引起的脉冲走离,鉴相器消光比超过30 dB。采用再生锁模光纤激光器实现压控光脉冲源,在保证脉冲质量的前提下,重复频率调节范围达到380 kHz。在40 Gb/s时钟恢复实验中,获得脉宽为7.2 ps、接近变换极限的时钟脉冲,时间抖动(RMS)为152 fs,超模抑制比大于60 dB。实验证明,输入信号幅度波动和码型效应对环路影响很小。 相似文献

Polarization domain-wall (PDW) trains have been generated at a repetition rate of 0.6 THz in an ultralow-birefringence spun optical fiber and measured by use of an adapted frequency-resolved optical gating technique. Characterization of the intensity and the phase of the PDW train shows complete switching between adjacent domains of counterrotating circular polarizations and directly confirms predictions based on numerical simulations of the incoherently coupled nonlinear Schr?dinger equations. 相似文献

提出了一种利用非线性光纤环镜的开关特性将连续波同时转化为亮孤子和暗孤子的新方法 ,即让连续波和另一波长的调制脉冲串共同耦合入光纤环镜 ,交叉相位调制使得一部分连续波被环镜透射 ,其余部分被反射 ;再让透射波和反射波分别在反常色散光纤和正常色散光纤中传输 ,自相位调制和群速度色散之间的相互作用使得透射波和反射波分别演化为亮、暗孤子。数值计算表明 ,该方法不仅可产生脉宽比调制脉冲窄、重复频率比调制脉冲高的亮孤子和暗孤子 ,而且几乎可将全部的连续波能量转化为孤子能量。 相似文献

In this paper, we report on the generation and the stabilization of ultrafast optical pulse trains exceeding 100 GHz from monolithic mode-locked laser diodes (MLLDs) combined with some new techniques such as subharmonic synchronous mode-locking (SSML) and repetition-frequency multiplication (RFM) method. Key subjects to increase the pulse repetition frequencies of the MLLDs such as fast absorption recovery and harmonic mode-locking operation are discussed. 500 GHz optical pulse generation from a short-cavity, graded-index separated confinement heterostructure MLLD and THz-rate pulse generation by harmonic mode-locking are reported. We also demonstrate the stabilization of a 160 GHz MLLD by the SSML with subharmonic-frequency optical pulse injection and reveal that the SSML is very promising as a stabilization technique of the ultrafast MLLD beyond the limitations by the electronic device speed. A method to accurately measure the timing jitter of such ultrafast optical pulse train, all-optical down converting using a nonlinear optical device, is also presented. We also mention another choice for ultrafast optical pulse generation using the MLLD combined with a dispersive medium such as an optical fiber. We demonstrate here the generations of stable 84–256 GHz optical pulse trains by the RFM method of the MLLD stabilized by the SSML. 相似文献

The comb-like filter characteristic of a Fabry-Perot etalon in frequency domain was deployed to filter out the discrete spectral lines of injected 10GHz optical pulse train. We present an all-fiber bidirectional passively mode-locked soliton laser with what we believe is a novel cavity configuration. Using a four-port circulator, we incorporate two different semiconductor saturable absorber mirrors (SESAMs) into the laser cavity, which enables bidirectional mode locking. The laser allows the generation of two independent countercirculating mode-locked pulse trains, each with an individual fundamental repetition rate that can be adjusted by varying the SESAM pigtail length. Two countercirculating pulse trains with repetition rates of 21.3 and 15.2 MHz are obtained simultaneously. By controlling the intracavity loss imposed on these two pulse trains, either one of the two pulse trains can be switched on or off. The bidirectional operation with other repetition rates is also demonstrated. 相似文献

We independently phase lock the repetition rates of two femtosecond lasers at their approximately 456, 000th harmonic to a common optical oscillator. The timing jitter of each individual laser relative to the optical reference is only 0.45 fs in a 100-Hz bandwidth. Our method takes advantage of the tremendous leverage that is possible when stability is transferred from the optical to the microwave domain. The low timing jitter is commensurate with the independently measured fractional frequency instability in the repetition rates of < or = 2.3 x 10(-15) in 1-s averaging time, limited by the measurement system. The microwave signals at 1 GHz that are extracted by photodetection of the pulse trains have a 10-times-greater instability, confirming the presence of excess noise in the photodetection. 相似文献

We report the generation of 207-fs pulses with 1.2mW average power
at 1036nm directly from a passively mode-locked Yb-doped fibre
laser with a nonlinear optical loop mirror for mode-locking and pairs
of diffraction gratings for intracavity dispersion compensation.
These results imply a 4-fold reduction in pulse duration over
previously reported figure-of-eight cavity passively mode-locked
Yb-doped fibre lasers. Stable pulse trains are produced at the
fundamental repetition rate of the resonator, 24.0MHz. On the other
hand, this laser offers a cleaner spectrum and greater stability and

By applying a small frequency detuning to the RF modulation frequency, pulse trains with repetition rates of integer multiples of the RF modulation frequency have been obtained in an actively mode-locking fiber ring laser. Optical pulse trains with repetition rates of 20 GHz, 30 GHz and 40 GHz were generated respectively here.
