Let Q be a non‐degenerate quadric defined by a quadratic form in the finite projective space PG(d,q). Let r be the dimension of the generators of Q. For all k with 2 ≤ k < r we determine the smallest cardinality of a set B of points with the property that every subspace of dimension k that is contained in Q meets B. It turns out that the smallest examples consist of the non‐singular points of quadrics SQ for suitable subspaces S of codimension k of PG(d,q). We will classify, up to linear representations, all geometries fully embedded in an affine space with the property that for every antiflag {p,L} of the geometry there are either 0, α, or q lines through p intersecting L. An example of such a geometry with α=2 is the following well known geometry . Let Qn+1 be a nonsingular quadric in a finite projective space , n≥3, q even. We project Qn+1 from a point rQn+1, distinct from its nucleus if n+1 is even, on a hyperplane not through r. This yields a partial linear space whose points are the points p of , such that the line 〈p,r〉 is a secant to Qn+1, and whose lines are the lines of which contain q such points. This geometry is fully embedded in an affine subspace of and satisfies the antiflag property mentioned. As a result of our classification theorem we will give a new characterization theorem of this geometry.  相似文献

Using the relationship of a polynomial and its associated polynomial, we derived a necessary and sufficient condition for determining all roots of a given polynomial on the circumference of a circle defined by its associated polynomial. By employing the technology of analytic inequality and the theory of distribution of zeros of meromorphic function, we refine two classical results of Cauchy and Pellet about bounds of modules of polynomial zeros. Sufficient conditions are obtained for the polynomial whose Cauchy's bound and Pellet's bounds are strict bounds. The characteristics is given for the polynomial whose Cauchy's bound or Pellet's bounds can be achieved by the modules of zeros of the polynomial.  相似文献

We show that the complexity of the Markov bases of multidimensional tables stabilizes eventually if a single table dimension is allowed to vary. In particular, if this table dimension is greater than a computable bound, the Markov bases consist of elements from Markov bases of smaller tables. We give an explicit formula for this bound in terms of Graver bases. We also compute these Markov and Graver complexities for all K×2×2×2 tables.  相似文献

Criteria for the existence of lifts of operators intertwining subnormal operators are established. The main result of the paper reduces lifting questions for general subnormal operators to questions about lifts of cyclic subnormal operators. It is shown that in general the existence of local lifts (i.e. those coming from cyclic parts) for a pair of subnormal operators does not imply the existence of a global lift. However this is the case when minimal normal extensions of subnormal operators in question are star-cyclic.

In this paper, we employ an asymptotic assumption to show that the maximum of finitely many convex polynomials is an asymptotically well behaved function. Two recently-proposed methods for estimating the m frequencies of a trigonometric signal using Szegö polynomials of fixed degree k>m consist of multiplying the moments of the n-truncated periodogram by the moments of the Poisson kernel and the wrapped Gaussian, respectively, in an effort to address the non-convergence of the polynomials as n→∞. These methods are seen to be equivalent to convolution of point masses with approximate identities, suggesting a general method. We characterize the limit polynomial for the case when the approximate identity is the Fejér kernel, extending recent results of the author for the case of the Poisson kernel. Moreover, the limit is seen to be the same as in the former case.  相似文献

We develop a new method to deal with the Cancellation Conjecture of Zariski in different environments. We prove the conjecture for free associative algebras of rank two. We also produce a new proof of the conjecture for polynomial algebras of rank two over fields of zero characteristic.

A Berry-Esseen bound is established for the kernel quantile estimator under various conditions. The results improve an earlier result of Falk (1985,Ann. Statist.,13, 428–433) and rely on the local smoothness of the quantile function. This new Berry-Esseen bound is applied to studying the deficiency of the sample quantile estimator with respect to the kernel quantile estimator. A new result is obtained which is an extension of that in Falk (1985).  相似文献

By a result of G. Freiman and A. Geroldinger [G. Freiman, A. Geroldinger, An addition theorem and its arithmetical application, J. Number Theory 85 (1) (2000) 59-73] it is known that the set of lengths of factorizations of an algebraic integer (in the ring of integers of an algebraic number field), or more generally of an element of a Krull monoid with finite class group, has a certain structure: it is an almost arithmetical multiprogression for whose difference and bound only finitely many values are possible, and these depend just on the class group. We establish a sort of converse to this result, showing that for each choice of finitely many differences and of a bound there exists some number field such that each almost arithmetical multiprogression with one of these difference and that bound is up to shift the set of lengths of an algebraic integer of that number field. Moreover, we give an explicit sufficient condition on the class group of the number field for this to happen.

A limit theorem due to J. Kuelbs and M. Ledoux, valid for dilatation-stable laws on type 2-Banach spaces, is carried over to stable laws on simply connected step 2-nilpotent Lie groupsG. We show that for products of i.i.d. random variables in the of attraction of a nondegenerate semigroup onG, where is a one-parameter automorphism group acting contracting onG, a certain intermediate trimming procedure, together with a suitable norming, always yields a nondegenerate centered Gaussian limit.  相似文献
