Surface acoustic wave (SAW) waveguide resonator is formed by a ring-shaped strip of copper 10 μm wide and ∼130 μm in diameter embedded into a 0.8 μm thick layer of silica on a silicon wafer. SAWs are excited at one side of the copper ring by a short laser pulse focused into a spatially periodic pattern and detected via diffraction of the probe laser beam overlapped with the excitation spot. SAW wavepackets with central frequency 460 MHz travel around the ring and are detected each time they make a full circle and pass trough the probe spot. Potential applications of ring resonators for SAWs are discussed.  相似文献

An approach to obtaining the dispersion equation of surface acoustic waves (SAWs) on a stress-free, randomly rough surface of an anisotropic elastic medium is suggested. The problem is solved in the approximation of a weakly rough surface using Green′s function technique. The dispersion and attenuation of sagittally and shear horizontally (SH) polarized SAWs are investigated both analytically and numerically for a three-dimensionally (3D) and a two-dimensionally (2D) rough surface of an isotropic medium. The results for 2D roughness are shown to be contained in the more general expressions for the 3D case, and the connection between the results for the 3D and the 2D cases is pointed out. Dispersion relations are derived for SAWs of both polarizations propagating in an arbitrary direction along a 2D rough surface. The SAW attenuation mechanisms are investigated at various incidence angles. It is concluded that all three mechanisms (viz. scattering into bulk transverse, longitudinal, and Rayleigh surface acoustic waves) are involved for the Rayleigh and SH polarized SAWs at certain incidence angles, whereas at the other angles only some of the mechanisms are. The criterion for the existence of SH polarized SAWs on a rough surface is considered. A possible increase of the SAW phase velocity on a rough surface compared with that for a flat boundary is discussed. In the limit λ a (where a is the roughness correlation length) simple explicit expressions for the phase velocities of Rayleigh and SH polarized SAWs are derived. A comparison of the results obtained herein with those of other workers is presented.  相似文献

Two-dimensional scanning of a 0.6328 mum guided-light beam has been realized using noncolinear acousto-optic (AO) coplanar Bragg diffraction together with colinear AO guided-mode to substrate radiation-mode conversion in a Z-cut Xpropagation LiNbO3 proton-exchanged (PE) waveguide. The two surface acoustic (SAW) waves utilized are at the center frequencies of 500 and 200 MHz, propagating in the Y and X axes, respectively. Two-dimensional scanning of approximately 720 resolvable light beam spots, namely, 18 40 (horizontal vertical) scanning, has been demonstrated using a light beam of 1.0 mm aperture. The total number of resolvable beam spots can be greatly increased from 720 by simply utilizing SAW transducers of larger bandwidth and a light beam of greater aperture. It should also be possible to significantly increase the diffraction efficiency from 3 % by optimizing the parameters of the PE waveguide and the SAWs.  相似文献

The patterns of propagation of gigahertz surface acoustic waves (SAWs) are obtained for cuts of CdZnTe single crystals with different crystallographic orientations. By comparing the experimental patterns with the calculated ones, the existence of at least two SAW modes, one of which is a Rayleigh mode, is demonstrated. It is shown that the anisotropy of propagation of different SAW modes makes it possible to determine the local crystallographic orientation of the CdZnTe surface and detect local imperfections of the crystal structure. Strong anisotropic scattering of the Rayleigh wave by coherent twin boundaries is found.  相似文献

We propose the ambipolar carrier transport by surface acoustic waves (SAWs) in a semiconductor quantum well (QW) for the realization of the Stern-Gerlach (SG) experiment in the solid phase. The well-defined and very low carrier velocity in the moving SAW field leads to a large deflection angle and thus to efficient spin separation, even for the weak field gradients and short (μm-long) interaction lengths that can be produced by micromagnets. The feasibility of a SG spin filter is discussed for different QW materials.  相似文献

We report on the first experimental ab?initio reconstruction of an image of a single particle from fluctuations in the scattering from an ensemble of copies, randomly oriented about an axis. The method is applicable to identical particles frozen in space or time (as by snapshot diffraction from an x-ray free electron laser). These fluctuations enhance information obtainable from an experiment such as conventional small angle x-ray scattering.  相似文献

The present study utilized an impedance matrix method to solve the properties of a surface acoustic wave (SAW) in a piezoelectric medium. By introducing complex wavenumbers, pseudo-SAWs (PSAWs) and high-velocity pseudo-SAW (HVPSAWs) with higher phase velocity and lower propagation loss can be achieved for certain propagation directions in ST-cut quartz. It is also found that, when a PSAW is excited on ST-cut 90°X propagation, the quartz substrate exhibits the characteristics of the existence of only the shear horizontal component, no spurious response, and zero-power flow angle (PFA). Combining a heavy-metal electrode such as gold (Au) of suitable thickness, the electromechanical coupling factor of PSAWs can be enhanced. The enhancement is about 2.5 times larger than that of conventional SAWs on an ST-X substrate with an aluminum (Al) electrode. The concept of fractal dimensionality is used to study different statistical methods for generating self-avoiding walks (SAWs). The reliability of SAWs traced by the enrichment technique and the dynamic Monte Carlo technique is verified. The number of dynamic cycles which represent a single independent SAW ofN 0 steps is found to be about 0.1N 0 3 . We show that the enrichment process for generating SAWs may be presented as a critical phenomenon.  相似文献

Interference measurements of small variations in the velocity and attenuation of surface acoustic waves (SAWs) are used to investigate water layers up to 15 nm thick adsorbed on the surface of a lithium niobate crystal. The frequency dependence of the relative variation of the SAW velocity with the adsorption of water vapor is measured in the range from 40 to 400 MHz. Acoustic techniques are used to experimentally estimate the frequency dependence of the dielectric constant of adsorbed water and its dipole relaxation frequency along with the dependence of the adsorption layer thickness on the water vapor pressure in the surrounding medium. A simple expression is proposed for calculating the dispersion of the SAW velocity in a solid loaded with a thin liquid layer.  相似文献

Surface acoustic waves (SAWs) provide a powerful tool for the modulation of polaritons in GaAs-based microcavities. In this contribution, we compare the modulation introduced by SAWs propagating along piezoelectric and non-piezoelectric crystal directions of the sample surface. Strain calculations reveal that the type-I band-gap modulation induced by the strain field is comparable for both SAW types. Piezoelectric SAWs have, however, an intrinsic longitudinal electric field, which can dissociate quantum well (QW) excitons and, thus, degrade the modulation. Images of the polariton far-field photoluminescence reveal this behavior for different excitation conditions.  相似文献

X-ray diffraction on a langatate crystal (La3Ga5.5Ta0.5O14, LGT) modulated by a Λ=12 μm Rayleigh surface acoustic wave (SAW) was studied in a double axis X-ray diffractometer scheme at the BESSY synchrotron radiation source. SAW propagation in the crystal causes sinusoidal modulation of the crystal lattice and the appearance of diffraction satellites on the rocking curves, with their number, angular positions, and intensities depending on the wavelength and amplitude of acoustic vibrations of the crystal lattice. Strong absorption of X-ray radiation in LGT enables the observation of the diffraction spectra extinction at certain SAW amplitudes. X-ray diffraction spectra analysis makes it possible to determine SAW amplitudes and wavelengths, to measure the power flow angles, and investigate the diffraction divergence in acoustic beam in LGT.  相似文献

Magneto-optic Kerr microscopy was employed to investigate the spin-orbit interactions of electrons traveling in semiconductor quantum wells using surface acoustic waves (SAWs). Two-dimensional images of the spin flow induced by SAWs exhibit anisotropic spin precession behaviors caused by the coexistence of different types of spin-orbit interactions. The dependence of spin-orbit effective magnetic fields on SAW intensity indicates the existence of acoustically controllable spin-orbit interactions resulting from the strain and Rashba contributions induced by the SAWs.  相似文献

This paper presents a novel principle for photovoltaic (PV) energy conversion using surface acoustic waves (SAWs) in piezoelectric semiconductors. A SAW produces a periodically modulated electric potential, which spatially segregates photoexcited electrons and holes to the maxima and minima of the SAW potential. The moving SAW collectively transports the carriers with the speed of sound to the electrodes made of different materials, which extract electrons and holes separately and generate dc output. The proposed active design is expected to have higher efficiency than passive designs of the existing PV devices and to produce enough energy to sustain the SAW.  相似文献

We present measurements of the reflection and mode conversion of surface acoustic waves (SAWs) by scanning acoustic force microscopy (SAFM). The SAFM offers a unique combination of high lateral resolution and high sensitivity towards acoustic modes of all polarizations. Since a SAW mixing experiment of two waves can be performed even if the amplitude difference between both waves is 40 dB, wavefields of extremely small amplitudes can be investigated. Using SAFM, the reflection of SAWs from a metallic wedge is investigated with submicron lateral resolution. We are able to identify two reflected wave modes, a Love and a non-coupling Rayleigh mode, by measuring their phase velocities. Laser-induced surface acoustic waves (SAWs) were used to study the influence of oxygen on the elastic properties of nanocrystalline diamond films. A series of samples was grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on the (100) plane of p-type silicon for 3h under different O(2)/(CH(4)+H(2)) flow ratios from 0% to 8%. The elastic properties of these nanocrystalline diamond films were determined from the SAW dispersion curves. The maximum frequency realized was about 310 MHz in wideband SAW experiments and about 700 MHz using a narrowband mask method with several higher harmonics. It was found that the densities of all samples were surprisingly high, approaching the ideal value of diamond, whereas the Young's modulus increased from 700 to 950 GPa with the addition of oxygen. It is concluded that oxygen has a significant positive effect on the elastic properties of nanocrystalline diamond.  相似文献

A new kind of non-contact linear actuator (motor) driven by surface acoustic waves (SAWs) is presented, in which the stators are made from SAW delay lines using 128° YX-LiNbO3 substrates. A fluid layer is introduced between the slider and the stator of the actuator, and the slider is a circular aluminum disk suspended on the surface of the liquid (water) layer. As the SAW is excited on the stator, the SAW is converted to a leaky wave in the interface of the stator and the liquid, and then propagates into the liquid. Owing to the nonlinear effect of wave propagation, acoustic streaming is generated, which pushes the slider to move. By the experiments, the relations between the slider velocity and the experimental parameters, such as the exciting voltage of the SAWs, the thickness and the kinematic viscosity of the liquid layer, are obtained.  相似文献

Material transport in Al/Ti-finger electrodes on LiNbO3 substrates of power-loaded surface acoustic wave (SAW) structures were investigated under microscopic observation with respect to stress-induced material transport. Additionally, investigations were carried out before and after SAW loading during lifetime experiments. For the experiments, a special power SAW test structure was applied realizing travelling SAWs. The results show that the microstructure of the electrodes was damaged by void and hillock formation even at moderate input power. This changes the electrical and acoustical properties of the SAW structures irreversibly. The logarithmic time-to-failure (TTF) of damaged SAW structures depends linearly on loading time and rf power.  相似文献

The propagation of an x-ray wave field in an elastic field of an edge dislocation crossing a scattering triangle exactly along the bisector of the scattering angle has been considered. The scattering of the x-ray wave field by a complex elastic field of the edge dislocation has been analyzed using the methods of geometrical optics. It has been established that the fine structure of a diffraction image of defects in thick crystals is determined by the differences in scattering of the normal and anomalous modes of the x-ray wave field in the vicinity of the Bragg reflection. In the case of thick crystals, the x-ray diffraction image of defects can have a symmetry different from the symmetry of the function of local misorientations of the crystal lattice. X-ray wave scattering by local distortions of the crystal lattice can occur according to two different mechanisms depending on the gradient of space changes in the deformation field. In the crystal regions where the elastic field varies slowly with a change in the distance, the x-ray wave field has had time to adjust itself to follow the course of deviations of the crystal lattice from the exact Bragg condition. In the crystal region where the elastic field changes significantly at distances of the order of the extinction length, this region leaves the reflecting position and interference scattering occurs at the interface of the region. It is important that the form of the deformation field in this case is of no significance.  相似文献

A phenomenological approach which takes into account the basic geometry and topology of percolation fractal structures and of self-avoiding walks (SAW) is used to derive a new expression for the Flory exponent describing the average radius of gyration of SAWs on fractals. We focus on the radius of gyration and discuss the importance of the intrinsic fractal dimensions of percolation clusters in determining the lower and upper critical dimensions of SAWs. The mean-field version of our new formula corresponds to the Aharony and Harris expression, who used the standard Flory approach for its derivation. On leave from Santipur College, Nadia 741404, India.  相似文献
