The matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF) and micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) methods were used to identify and quantify five tannins, (+)-catechin, (?)-epigallocatechin, (?)-epigallocatechin gallate, (?)-epicatechin gallate and (?)-epicatechin, from aqueous, ethanolic and acetonic extracts of Calendula officinalis, Hy-pericum, perforatum, Galium verum and Origanum vulgare. The MALDI-TOF technique was used for screening tannins monomers and oligomers in plant extracts. The sandwich method and matrix 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid with a concentration of 10 mg mL?1 in acetonitrile/ultrapure water/trifluoroacetic acid (20: 80: 0.1, vol.) were used. The electrophoretic method developed for the separation and quantification of 5 catechins in 15 min exhibited good efficiency and precision, low limits of detection (0.0032–0.0153 μ.g mL-1) and quantification (0.0096–0.0466 μ.g mL?1). The correlation coefficients (R2) exceeded 0.9986 and the recovery values ranged between 94.25 % and 102.50 %. The present work provides new information on some of the less studied compounds present in plants frequently used in traditional medicine.  相似文献

Different parts of four edible medicinal plants (Casearia capitellata, Baccaurea motleyana, Phyllanthus pulcher and Strobilanthus crispus), indigenous to Malaysia, were extracted in different solvents, sequentially. The obtained 28 extracts were evaluated for their in vitro anticancer properties, using the MTS assay, on four human cancer cell lines: colon (HT-29), breast (MCF-7), prostate (DU-145) and lung (H460) cancers. The best anticancer activity was observed for the ethyl acetate (EA) extract of Casearia capitellata leaves on MCF-7 cell lines with IC?? 2.0 μg/mL and its methanolic (MeOH) extract showed an outstanding activity against lung cancer cell lines. Dichloromethane (DCM) extract of Phyllanthus pulcher aerial parts showed the highest anticancer activity against DU-145 cell lines, while significant activity was exhibited by DCM extract of Phyllanthus pulcher roots on colon cancer cell lines with IC50 value of 8.1 μg/mL. Total phenolic content (TPC) ranged over 1-40 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/g. For all the samples, highest yields of phenolics were obtained for MeOH extracts. Among all the extracts analyzed, the MeOH extracts of Strobilanthus crispus leaves exhibited the highest TPC than other samples (p < 0.05). This study shows that the nature of phenol determines its anticaner activity and not the number of phenols present.  相似文献

Summary Solid-liquid extraction has been used to study the uptake of uranium(VI) and thorium(IV) from sulphuric acid using a TVEX-PHOR resin. The experimental results were found to fit the BET isotherm and show a higher affinity of the TVEX-PHOR resin towards the extraction of uranium than thorium under similar experimental conditions. The best separation of uranium from thorium is obtained from 3M sulphuric acid at V/m ratio of 20 ml/g. Elution of loaded uranium and thorium was carried out with 1M sodium carbonate and 0.075M sulphuric acid, respectively. After the elution of both elements, the regenerated resin could be reused with high efficiency.  相似文献

Shallow land burial is routinely used for the disposal of low-level radioactive waste. Natural processes causing leaching of radionuclides can lead to contamination of surrounding ground water and soil by the radionuclides. The comparative leachability of radionuclides U(nat), 226Ra, 228Ra and Th(nat) from the soil of a radioactive waste disposal site, by ground water was evaluated. The probability of leaching was obtained in the following order Ra (≈77%) > U (≈40%) > Th (≈20%). Observed ratios (OR) were calculated to correlate leachability of radionuclides to that of major cations Ca2+ and Mg2+. The leaching of the radionuclides was seen to be dependent on Ca2+ and SO42− leached from the soil. This study provides sitespecific leachability of radionuclides, that can be used as indicator of the tendency for migration or retention in soil. It can play an important role during an unforeseen accident like breach of containment at the waste disposal site leading to contamination of soil and ground water and causing hazard to public via drinking water route.  相似文献

Study on adsorption of thorium and uranium radionuclides by a soil sediment as a function of ionic composition of Ca, Mg and Na has been carried out. Experimentally determined slopes represents an average of adsorption on soil sediments having different relative affinities for thorium, uranium, calcium and magnesium. Both thorium and uranium were found to be adsorbed to ion-exchange sites together with calcium and magnesium cations as effective competitors An extrapolated equation for the distribution coefficientK d was formed for both radionuclides thorium and uranium at the specified site where the soil sediments were sampled. The combined cation concentration of both calcium and magnesium in solution correlates linearly with the measuredK d Th,U values.  相似文献

Thorium-230 has many research applications, but there is not a commercial source of this isotope. However, since 230Th is part of the 238U decay chain, it can be separated from naturally occurring uranium. In this work, a novel procedure was developed to separate thorium from uranium ore, consisting of leaching, liquid–liquid extraction, precipitations and ion exchange chromatography. The final product was 91.32?±?0.77 mg of thorium with a purity of 99.5?±?1.2 wt%. Of that, 7.65?±?0.10 mg was 230Th and the remainder 232Th. The total yield of 230Th was 71.1?±?5.4%. Ways to improve the yield by further processing the back-extraction solution are suggested.

Summary The paper presents a procedure to prepare soil samples for U and Th isotope measurement by alpha-spectrometry after coprecipitation with LaF3. In this procedure the reduction of U(VI) to U(IV) was performed by Zn metal in 4M HCl solution. The recoveries of chemical separation equal to eU-chemistry = 78±4% for uranium and eTh-chemistry = 82±4% for thorium. Canberra alpha-spectrometer was used with PIPS detectors of A-1200-37-AM Model of 1200 mm2 active area. The counting efficiency of the measuring system equals to ecounting = 18% and the total efficiencies were eU = ecounting .eU-chemistry = 14.0±0.7% for uranium and eTh = ecounting .eTh-chemistry = 14.7±0.7% for thorium. The recoveries of chemical separation were rather high (about 80%), that leads to the use of a small weight of soil sample (about 0.5 g). The efficiencies were also stable, that allows analyzing the soil sample without using radiotracers. They are advantages of the sample preparation procedure of this work.  相似文献

Acid leaching of uranium deposits is not a selective process. Sulfuric acid solubilizes iron(III) and half or more of the thorium depending on the mineralog of this element. In uranium recovery by solvent extraction process, uranium is separated from iron by an organic phase consisting of 10 vol% tributylphosphate(TBP) in kerosine diluent. Provided that the aqueous phase is saturated with ammonium nitrate or made 4–5 M in nitric acid prior to extraction. Nitric acid or ammonium nitrate is added to the leach solution in order to obtain a uranyl nitrate product. Leach solutions containing thorium(IV) besides iron are treated in an analogous fashion. Uranium can be extracted away from thorium using 10 vol% TBP in kerosine diluent. The aqueous phase should be saturated with ammonium nitrate and the pH of the solution lowered to 0.5 with sufficient amount of sulfuric acid. In other words, the separation of uranium and thorium depends on the way the relative distributions of the two materials between aqueous solutions and TBP vary with sulfuric acid concentration. Thorium is later recovered from the waste leach liquor, after removal of sulfate ions. Uranium can be stripped from the organic phase by distilled water, and precipitated as ammonium diuranate.  相似文献

Cathodic depositions of uranium and thorium were carried out from a number of baths containing the metal salts, and complexing agents. A reducing agent was also present to prevent oxidation of the element. The deposition was also carried out at controlled pH. The current density ranged from 50 to 200 mA cm–2. The purity of the deposited metals was better than 99.7%. The mechanism of formation of uranium and thorium is proposed and discussed.  相似文献

A manganese dioxide coprecipitation procedure is utilized to replace a time-consuming evaporation step for the extraction of thorium, uranium and cerium from freshwater samples. The average recovery for 20-liter samples is greater than 95% for234Th and144Ce. The data indicate that the manganese dioxide coprecipitation process does not affect the recovery of thorium and uranium during our routine analytical procedure.  相似文献

Summary The distribution behaviour of Th4+, Pa5+, and UO2 2+ ions between the anion-exchanger Amberlite IRA-400 and acetic acid-hydrochloric acid mixtures, has been investigated. It was found that the general behaviour of Th4+ ions is similar to that of UO2 2+ ions though the latter are much more highly adsorbed by the resin than Th4+. Protactinium exhibited a different behaviour from both Th4+ and UO2 2+ ions. The separation factors were calculated, and a Chromatographic procedure for sequential isolation of each element was developed.

Quantification of thorium and uranium sorption to contaminated sediments   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Desorption tests, using a sequential extraction method, were used to characterize and quantify thorium and uranium sorption to contaminated wetland sediments collected from the Department of Energy's Savannah River Site located in South Carolina. In situ distribution coefficients, or K d values (K d = C solid/C liquid), were determined. Sequential extraction data were used to assign solid-phase radionuclide concentrations (C solid) that, by definition, should represent only the reversibly sorbed fraction. A series of selective and sequential extractions was used to determine desorption K d values. Thorium K d values ranged from 115 to 2255 ml/g. Uranium K d values ranged from 170 to 6493 ml/g. Compared to sorption K d values, these desorption K d values were appreciably greater because they captured the aging process of the radionuclides with the sediment, making the radionuclide more refractory. Compared to nonsite-specific data, these in situ K d values improved accuracy, were more defensible, and removed unnecessary conservatism for subsequent transport and risk calculations. Additional tests were conducted to provide geochemical information relevant for selecting appropriate remediation technologies for the contaminated site. Thorium and uranium were associated with labile fractions and were not concentrated with the smaller sediment particles. These findings suggest that phytoremediation or heap leaching, and not soil washing, are viable remediation approaches for this site.  相似文献

The extraction of phenolic antioxidants from solid plant raw materials (bark and roots) under the action of an electric current was studied. A relationship between the amount and antioxidant activity of extracted phenolic compounds with the particle size and the procedure of grinding plant raw material was found. The most complete extraction of phenols was reached in experiments with ground samples. The resulting extracts from the bark of arrowwood (Viburnum opulus L.) and the root of burnet (Sanguisorba officinalis L.) were superior to the extracts obtained by circulation extraction in a Soxhlet extractor in terms of the antioxidant activity, and they increased the stability of sunflower oil to oxidation by a factor of 2–3.  相似文献

Scandium and thorium sorption from simulated uranium leach liquors by phosphorous containing ion exchange resins was studied. Increase of thorium concentration resulted in a decrease of scandium sorption by 26–65%. Tulsion CH 93 resin was chosen for Sc separation from uranium leach liquors. It was shown that 180 g L?1 Na2CO3 allowed for elution 94.1% of Sc and 98.9% of Th in dynamic conditions. Using (NH4)2SO4 (50 g L?1) + ACBM (180 g L?1) mixture for primary Sc/Th separation at the resin/eluent ratio of 1:5 resulted in thorium desorption degree as high as 66–69%, whereas scandium loss did not exceed 10%.  相似文献

A sequential radiochemical procedure for isotopic analysis of uranium and thorium in soil has been developed. Analysis involves total dissolution of the samples to allow equilibration of the natural isotopes with added tracers, followed by radiochemical separation using anion exchange chromatography (BioRad AG 1–X8). Further separation and purification is performed employing solvent extraction techniques. Finally, the U and Th fractions are co-precipitated with lanthanum and cerium fluoride, respectively, and quantified by alpha-particle spectrometry. Overall chemical yields range from 60 to 90%. Under normal operating conditions and present counting set up, the minimum detectable concentration (MDC) is approximately 2 Bq/kg for soil samples. This is based on one gram aliquot of sample, 80% chemical yield, and 1000 minute counting with a detector having about 15% counting efficiency. The procedure has been successfully tested with Standard Reference Materials. Various soil samples were analyzed with high chemical yields and fine quality of alpha-spectra. Decontamination factor studies were performed to determine the extent of the carry over of210Po,225Ac,226Ra, and229Th into U fraction and210Po,225Ac,226Ra, and232U into Th fraction.  相似文献

A routine procedure has been developed for the simultaneous determination of uranium and thorium in high concentration thorium ores. INAA is used to determine the uranium and thorium concentration. However, for very low concentrations of uranium a radiochemical procedure based on the use of NPy/benzene as an extractant has to be employed. The precision and accuracy of the method has been determined by analyzing IAEA and NBL standard thorium/uranium ores.  相似文献
